  • Meeting someone who has a layover

I am planning to meet my brother who has a 3 hour layover. Where is the best place to meet him at the airport, and do I go through security check to meet him?

You can't go through the security checkpoint to meet him. He will have to exit security to meet you and then go back through when you're done. The best place to meet him would be the baggage claim of whatever terminal he arrives in.

  • Sister leaving in IAD

My sister is leaving tomorrow for Kuwait. She is departing in MDT had only 50 minutes to catch her International Flight to Kuwait. Is she is going to the customs or immigration before catching her flight in IAD going to Kuwait flight UA982. Any ideas if she is still going to immigration before catching her flight? Thank you

No, in IAD all she has to do is go from her arrival gate on concourse A to her departure gate on Concourse D, which are connected by the AeroTrain.

  • What to do with baggage?

We have an 11 hour layover in AMS. Do I claim my luggage between connecting flights? If I want to tour a bit what do I do with my luggage? Is there a place to store the bags in the airport? How much time do I need to allow in the airport to make my connecting flight (9pm)

Where are you coming from and where are you going? Did you buy all your tickets together or separately?

We are coming from LAX to TLV. We are flying KLM the whole way. The tickets were purchased in 1 transaction

You will not have to claim your baggage in Amsterdam. Here is a good description of what to do during your layover: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g188553-c79954/The-Netherlands:Schiphol.Layover.html

A friend is coming from Costa Rica with a 5 hours waiting time for his next flight with delta also to WI. Can I meet him at the airport? Where would be the best place ?

It is possible to meet him. He will go through Immigration, customs, and security in Terminal E/F, then, normally, he would take the Plane Train to his departure concourse. However, he could take the Plane Train to the domestic terminal and you could meet him at the exit there. You could meet him or her at the top of the escalator there. After they're done they'll have to go through security in the domestic terminal and take the plane train to their departure concourse.

So I need tell him that take the train to baggage claim right? There is where the escaledor are right? Is his first time flighting at all so I'm trying make it a little bit easy for him :) thank u.

Well, he needs to take the train to the DOMESTIC baggage claim. He will have already passed through the International Baggage Claim and re-checked his bags at that point.

I have a 1 hr layover arriving and departing from terminal c. Do I have enough time to go out and smoke? From my research I have found out that I would have to go through security again.

I probably wouldn't but if your flight is on-time you probably do if you hurry.

I know it's risky. I have never been through that airport so I wasn't sure where you have to go and how long it will take to get back through security on a normal day there. I from Columbus and it never takes more than 10-15 minutes.

I am going to have a long layover at DFW coming from Sau Paulo. After going through immigration and customs, can I take my checked bags with me, and recheck them later with my connecting flight?

  • 10 Hour Layover Terminal 8 help

Hi, I arrive Terminal 8 from London on British Airways to JFK at 22:30 I don't fly out again from Terminal 8 on American Airlines to San Francisco until 8:00am the next morning so have a 10 Hour Layover! I was wondering what I would be best doing. I would be happy to stay in airport lounch but not sure if any open 24 hrs through the night, also thinking about hotel but really once I clear customs then possibly have to check my bags again it only leaves 6 Hours or less to be safe. I leave in 5 days time so any help would be much appreciated! Many Thanks

You may not be able to re-check your bag upon arrival and may have to wait until about 4 or 5 AM to do so if you decide to stay in the airport. You may want to read this guide at Sleepinginairports - http://www.sleepinginairports.net/usa/newyorkjfk.htm#.UsGpEvRDv-Q It seems the best place to wait out the night is in Terminal 5.

Also, British Airways-operated flights arrive in Terminal 7, not Terminal 8.

  • Visiting my friend on layover at JFK

Hey my friend is coming through delta on a flight from the Dominican Republic to Ohio and is on layover at JFK for about 12hrs. Is there a way that I can go see her there before she departs to Ohio? And where and how would this be done?? By the way she is a minor with a student visa to go on an student exchange with a school in Ohio.

She will exit customs in Terminal 4 and you could meet her there (it is in the non-secure area). You could then go anywhere you want as long as she gets back to JFK about 90 minutes before her flight to Ohio.

Oh thank you! And another thing. Once we come back for her flight to Ohio she has to go through the other terminal right?? I mean the terminal listed on the ticket??

Yes, if she's on a Delta Connection flight it probably leaves from Terminal 2. You can check delta.com on your phone to find out the exact terminal.

  • 1 hour connection in LAX

Hi, we are flying from YVR to ZIH (in Mexico) on Alaska Airlines with a 1 hour connection in LAX. Is that enough time?

At YVR go through US customs clearance; on arrival at LAX at Terminal 6 simply walk to your connecting gate. T6 has gates 70A -71B, 72 & 73 & 74A -77B.

Yes, that should be enough time. All Alaska gates are connected beyond security at LAX and you will pre-clear US immigration in Vancouver.

Hi, I have a flight leaving Dublin tomorrow at 1115am to Philadelphia with a layover at JFK (departs at 450pm). This was purchased under one ticket. Will it be necessary to recheck luggage at JFK before the connecting flight? Thanks!

You shouldn't have to if your bags are checked through to PHL as you will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Dublin.

  • Can I make it?

Hi, I am flying from Omaha to Atlanta on 17th December with Delta Airlines (1956) and I have 45 minutes layover to catch plane to Costa Rica (353, also with Delta). Do you think it is possible? What to do if I miss the plane? Thank you!

Yes, if your first flight is on-time that is enough time. All you will have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate which are connected by the underground plane train. If you miss your flight you will be booked on the next flight, which may not be until the next day.

I will be taking a flight from barcelona to paris and the transfer time is 50 minutes for me to catch another flight to Amsterdam. Is 50 minutes sufficient? Does Spain belong to EU ?

Yes, Spain, France, and the Netherlands are all part of the Schengen area so you will not have to go through any immigration on your trip.

I get into IAH around 1:00 am and leave for Panama the next day around 8:30. If I check luggage, will I be able to retrieve it from baggage claim or will they hold it somewhere for the next flight? I'm currently deciding whether or not to take advantage of the in airport Marriott.

I assume you mean you are arriving at 1 AM and departing at 8:30 AM. If you have your bags checked through to Panama you will not be able to claim them in Houston.

  • Enough time to wine and dine?

Hi, I am coming in from the Los Angeles airport, arriving in terminal C, and have a connecting flight to Brazil. My flight arrives at 4:30 and leaves to Brazil at 9:15. Do I have to go through Customs/migration ? Is this enough time to leave the airport and get some fresh air? I assume my luggage will already be checked in. Thanks.

No, on your way to Brazil you don't have to go through any immigration or customs or do anything with your bags. Yes, you can go step outside.

  • Connecting between BOS and Billings
    Nov 12, 2013

Which terminals does Delta use for incoming flights from Boston and outgoing flights to Billings? Is there a tram that connects the two terminals? Is 50 minutes enough layover time?

All Delta flights are in the Lindbergh terminal and all gates are connected beyond security. 50 minutes is enough time.
