  • Domestic to International layover
    Apr 16, 2014
I will be flying from JAX to IAD on UA5843 which arrives at 4:14 pm. My next flight is UA936 to ZRH at 5:54. Is an hour 30 enough for me to make my next flight considering I'm flying in domestic and flying out international? Do I have to check in with my bags and go through security again?

All you have to do in IAD is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. They will likely both be on the C/D concourse, however, if you arrive in the A concourse, the Mobile Lounge and Aerotrain connect it to C/D. You should have plenty of time.

I have 55 minutes on layover all United flights. If flight is on time do I have time to transfer?

Yes, that should be enough time. All flights will be on the C/D concourse and are connected inside security.

  • Delta layover
    Apr 14, 2014
I have 55 between flights on delta. Will I make it to my flight (of course if it's on time too) if I have to take the train to a different concourse? Also how do you get to the train?

There are a ton of signs pointing the way to the plane train. You can get between any two gates at ATL in under 20 minutes.

  • Is 1 hr 10 mins enough for connecting domestic to international?
    Apr 8, 2014
I'm flying from Charlottesville with UA3600 arriving at 11.10 and have to connect international flight to Japan (UA 803), departing at 12.20. Do I have enough time to run around? Do I have to pass security check again? I understand that my luggage will be checked through.

You do not have to go through security. All you have to do is take the mobile lounge or plane train from concourse A where you will arrive to concourse C/D where you will depart. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

  • Clearing Customs
    Apr 6, 2014
I have 1hour 20 minutes to clear at IAH onto PVR. All will be in Terminal E. Is that enough time? Thanks!

Where are you coming from? That is less than the International->International minimum connection time.

  • Layover/Connection-Same Terminal Will I be waiting in Custom/Security?
    Apr 4, 2014
Have a layover in DFW (coming from inter nation, departing to international), andI know my connecting flight is out of the same terminal. This is my first time connecting at DFW, but have done intl-intl connections at JFK and ATL. People have told me that no matter where you arrive from and are departing too, you always clear customs are are re-screened. I remember this not being the case in ATL. What will happen this time?

That is the case in ATL, DFW, and every other US airport.

  • Waiting for husband to arrive on a different flight in IAH
    Apr 3, 2014
Hi, I am travelling to IAH from Holland and i like to meet up my husband who is arriving 3 hours later from Detroit. Am i able to do some shopping in IAH before meeting him and not go through the customs? Thanks.

You will be forced to go through immigration and customs after you arrive. There is no shopping between deplaning and customs.

  • 4 hour Layover MAN-ATL-SFO Visiting Family Inbetween
    Apr 3, 2014
Hello, I understand that I will need to recheck my bag once I clear customs and I would normally go thru another security checkpoint then onto the plane train to my domestic gate for the flight to SFO. My parents want to visit with me before I go on to the the SFO gate. So my question is, can I recheck my bag and then leave into the International lobby as if I was an atlanta bound passenger, visit with them for an hour or so, then go back thru security at the international side and go onto the the plane train to get to the domestic gate? Or will I have to take my bag with me after I clear customs and check it back in at the delta gate on international side or domestic side? Sorry I am a little confused about how to do this. Thank you in advance for anyones input.

You should be able to do what you are originally planning.

  • Do I have enough time for connection?
    Mar 29, 2014
Taking Delta flight 3472 from OKC connecting with Delta flight 5015 to ORF. Has 52 minute layover. Is that enough time to connect?

Yes, that should be enough time. All Delta gates at DTW are connected inside security and both of your flights will likely use the B/C concourse.

  • Overnight Layover
    Mar 29, 2014
We are arriving at Ohara on Copa airlines from Panama at midnight. Our domestic flight is at 6am at terminal 1. After going thru customs at terminal 5 and then taking the tram, will we be able to rest our weary feet until security opens at 4am?

There are a few places to sit in the lobby and baggage claim of T1, but not many.

Arriving from Montreal on tuesday at 10:22 am with US Airways , connecting flight to Cancun leaves 11.30 am. 1hr. 08 minute layover is it enough?

Yes, that should be enough time if your first flight is on-time. All gates at Charlotte are connected inside security and you will pre-clear US Immigration in Montreal.

  • Tight Connection at IAD with family
    Apr 4, 2014
ZAP and other IAD experts, I'm travelling with wife and 9 year old daughter from Seattle to Buffalo with a layover at IAD of 51 minutes. It's a part of one reservation with United. I guess I'll be arriving at terminal D at 9PM and taking off on a commuter plane from terminal A at 9:51 to BUF. Now I realize it may not be doable with carry on luggage and family. Can you guys suggest the best way to make this connection as it's the last flight to BUF that day. Thank you!

If arriving at Midfield Concourse C/D, a shuttle will meet you near Gate D11 & Starbucks, and will take you to Midfield Concourse A/B, gate A6. 51 mins should suffice for transfer. To get an idea of the Terminal layout, I suggest you open, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

Thank you tumar14. I just hope my first flight is not late. I'm also thinking of trying for the Same day change with united. not sure if that would affect the remaining flights in my itinerary, but that's for another thread. Thanks for your reassuring words!

  • doI have enough time
    Mar 12, 2014
i will land on Saturday morning at 9AM at the domestic terminal (Terminal S) and my next plane will leave 9:50 at Terminal I (International) is 50 minutes enough time??Thx

Yes that should be enough time. You don't actually have to change terminals. You just have to go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. The plane train connects all concourses inside security.

  • Customs, layover and kids
    Mar 11, 2014
I am traveling with 4kids this summer and I am looking at going from Frankfurt to JFK to Austin. Will a 2hr layover in JFK allow me enough time to recheck my bags, go through customs and make my connection to Austin with 4 kids? Or am I better off take the ATL connection with 5hr layover?

Would the tickets be bought together or separately? If together, 2 hours is enough at JFK, but it doesn't leave much room for error or delays.

  • Only 1.5 layout time Vancouver to Seattle to Tokyo
    Mar 7, 2014
Hi, I booked multiple ticket from UA with a section from YVR through SEA to NRT. I have only 1.5 layout time in SEA as follows: YVR 1110 (Air Canada Express operated by Jazz Aviation) to SEA 1200 Then SEA 1315 to NRT Do I need to go through Custom and get the luggage and I am worry that 1.5 hour is not enough. Previous section of the ticket is from SFO to YVR. Shall I be counted as first entry to US and have to go through custom? Please kindly advice Many thanks

You will go through US Immigration and Customs at the Preclearance facility in Vancouver. In Seattle, all you will have to do is go from your Air Canada gate in Concourse A to your departure gate. United no longer flies from Seattle to Tokyo, so if you booked your flight through United it is probably operated by ANA and will leave from Concourse S. There is a train that connects A and S inside security. You should have enough time.

thank you very much! That's reassuring!
