  • Airport arrival time for international flights
    Nov 27, 2015
Why is the airport arrival time recommendation from international flights 2 hours but only 1 hour for domestic. It seems to me the process is identical for check in and security and you don't go through customs as a U.S. Citizen leaving from the U.S. Until you reach your destination.

International flights do board earlier, however, yes, the process is otherwise exactly the same. You do not actually have to arrive 2 hours early for international flights with most airlines.

  • Expired Drivers License
    Nov 24, 2015
While visiting a friend in FL my WI drivers license expired. I need to get back to WI to renew but don't know if they will allow me to board the airplane without a valid picture ID. Are there other forms of ID I can use. I don't have any other picture ID other than my now expired license.

In most cases they will allow you to use an expired Drivers license with another form of identification with your name on it.

My name on my ticket is Brenda Holman but my name on my drivers license is Brenda E Holman. Will that be a problem with security?

It should not be a problem.

My name is Brenda E Holman on my drivers license but my plane ticket is just Brenda Holman. Will that be a problem with security?

No need to ask the same question twice.

  • Passport in 2016
    Dec 24, 2015
I will be flying out of Houston Airport on Feb.7, 2016. As of Jan. 2016 Louisiana residents need a passport to fly out of Louisiana. From Louisiana but flying out of Houston to California, Do I need a passport too at this airport?

Yes, Louisiana drivers licenses will no longer be accepted ID for any flight after that date.

Also, that date isn't set in stone. I think it's highly likely it could be pushed back. However, if you were planning on getting a Passport anyway, I would go ahead and do that.

That information is incorrect. In October 2015, Louisiana was granted a waiver of this requirement until October 20, 2016. Louisiana drivers licenses will still be accepted until that date.

If you are just flying from JFK to Houston no, you do not go through Immigration, New York and Texas are both part of the United States.

  • From Concourse E to D
    Oct 30, 2015
We are flying from Heathrow to Miami on BA207 on December 29th and connecting to Puerto Rico (I think from concourse D). We land at 14.00 and the flight to Puerto Rico is at 18.50. I know we have to clear Immigration, collect bags, customs and re-check bags. Would that be done in Concourse E? And then go to Concourse D for the PR flight? Or Immigration will be done in concourse D? Then go back to E to collect bags and to customs in D? I am getting confused because I know there is no Immigration in E. Can someone help me with this, please?

After a thorough search I've found out that even though we land at Concourse E we have to proceed to Concourse D for passport check and baggage claim as the the ones in E are temporarily closed. That's great for us as our connecting flight is from concourse D too.

We will be traveling from Toronto YYZ to LAX with a connecting flight to Kona . Is there special security while we are waiting .

There's no "special" security. Whether you go through security depends on what airlines you are flying. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto.

I am flying from Vienna - Dusseldorf through JFK and there overlay to San Diego. I am arriving to T8 and departing from the same terminal. I am flying Air Berlin. Will I need to go through customs in JFK and re check my bag or will I do it in San Diego?

In JFK you will go through US Immigration, claim your bag, go through US Customs, re-check your bag at the transfer desk, then go through security and to your AA departing gate.

My husband is flying from Doha to Chicago with final destination being Charlotte. Will he have to go thorough customs and immigration on arrival in Chicago or just at his final destination in Charlotte?

He will go through US Immigration and Customs in Chicago, Terminal 5. He will have to go through US Immigration, claim his bags, go through US Customs, then re-check his bags at the transfer desk, then go up 2 levels and take the ATS train to his departure terminal (if he is flying American/US Airways to Charlotte, that would be Terminal 3), then go through security and to his departure gate.
