  • Can I make an hour and 10 minute connection
    Apr 19, 2015

If I arrive On United fight 42 from Washington DC at 810am Can I make a 920am flight on Alitalia to Brindisi?

With checked baggage? Since you would be purchasing two separate tickets - no. Without checked baggage it might barely be possible. Still quite difficult.

we are carrying our bags on

Then I think if you check in online for your Alitalia flight before you leave the US, your United flight is on-time, and you run to T1 after clearing passport control, I think you can make it.

  • IAD transit flight CUN-IAD-GVA

Hi am looking at international flight with united CUN-IAD-GVA transit time is 1h10 minutes. I am traveling on a foreign passport with a 9 year old and will probably have checked bags. 1h 10 minutes seems short to me is this possible? If I miss the flight and need to take the one the next day, will United provide me with accomodations? THanks in advance!

Yes, 1 hr 10 minutes is well below the minimum connection time for such a connection (90 minutes). I would avoid booking that. United likely would not provide you with a hotel if you miss your connection.

  • Delta to Korean Air, Connecting from Terminal 2 to 1
    Apr 19, 2015

My wife's Delta flight from TPA to JFK around 10PM, connecting to Korean Air from JFK to ICN at 00:50AM. I think connecting will be from Terminal 2 to 1, isn't it? Question 1: Does she have enough time to make connection? Question 2: Ticket agency issued her tickets as separate tickets, but Delta call center/customer service told us they can check bag through. In case she has to claim her luggage and re-check-in, does she have time? Question 3: Where is transfer desk of Korean Air inside JKF where she can get boarding pass for flight from JFK to ICN (Seoul)?

Her flight from Tampa may arrive in Terminal 4 or Terminal 2. Yes, she should have enough time whether she has to transfer the bags herself or not. She will have to exit security to get to Terminal 1. So she can access the regular Korean Air check-in desk rather than a transfer desk.

Thank you, ZAP! We never connect in JFK, how can she get to T1? I assume there is train or something, Delta told us there is a DELTA shuttle bus, can it get to T1 within security zone?

The Delta shuttle bus only runs between T2 and T4. The only way to get to T1 is the AirTrain, which runs outside security.

  • Arriving on United, leaving Air France
    Apr 19, 2015

I'm arriving from Denver on United at 1:30 pm and departing for Paris on Air France at 4:05 pm. Now that United will no longer check bags through on airlines not in their system, will I have enough time to to reclaim my bags, check in with Air France and make it to the gate?

That should be enough time if your United flight is on-time.

Like an earlier post four of us have purchased 2 separate tickets for travel on 8 July: one is from Icelandair, arriving JFK at 12:30 Terminal 7, then depart JFK on American at 12:55 terminal 8. Would I have enough time to clear customs, pick up baggage, check in, go through security for the American flight? I can change my ticket to have a 18:00 flight from Newark or LGA if first option not possible.

No, 25 minutes is not nearly enough time. You'll have to switch to a later flight.

  • Terminal 1 to 5 in 2 hours?

I have a Norwegian Air flight that arrives at 8:05pm on a Sunday (T1) and a JetBlue flight that departs to IAD at 10:10pm (T5). Is that enough time to go through customs, pick up bags, and check in again? I may be able to only have a carry on...

With carry-on only it should definitely be enough time if your first flight is on-time. With Checked bags you should be OK but it doesn't leave much time to spare if there are any delays.

  • SEPARATE TICKETS - ARRIVAL AT T4 FROM MIAMI & DEPARTING AT T1 MILANO
    Apr 19, 2015

Hi ZAP and everybody !! My name is Paolo and i'm italian. On Saturday 13th June i'm arriving at JFK at 18:45 with a domestic Delta flight from MIA and at 20:30 from T1 lands off my Alitalia plane for Milano Malpensa (MPX). Checking in online with Alitalia is it possible to try this connection !? I have luggages. I tried to change my tickets but it's impossible because penalties are more expensive than the ticket price. Please help..

Yes, it is possible. Assuming you purchased your tickets together your bags will be transferred. All you have to do is take the AirTrain from T2 or T4 where you will arrive to T1 where you will depart and go through security.

I purchased them separately. I have 2 separate tickets amd Alitalia check in closes at 19:30. Have i to buy other 2 tickets from MIA to JFK to arrive there before ? or do you think it's still possible ?

Since Delta and Alitalia are in SkyTeam they should be able to check your bags through to Milan in Miami. It is possible if you don't get them transferred, but you'll have to hope your flight from Miami is on-time or early and your bags come out quickly.

So if you were me would you buy other 2 tickets for me and my girlfriend for $ 150 each or would you risk to lose the Alitalia plane spending 500 $ for each ticket !? If i check in online with Alitalia the risk is quite low ? Thak you very much, you are a very very kind and knowledgeble person.

You wouldn't lose your Alitalia ticket - they would probably let you fly on the flight the next day - you would just arrive a day later and have to pay for a hotel in NY for a night. However, if you do want to feel safer, go ahead and try to get an earlier flight to JFK.

  • 1 hour 30 mins for connection (YUL-PHL-PIT)

I am flying from Montreal to Pittsburgh via Philadelphia. I will have 1 hour 30 mins to go from Terminal F to Terminal B. Would that be enough? I am worried about the US immigration. Do I have to go through immigration at Philadelphia, or do I go through preclearance at Montreal? I will only have carry-ons.

You will go through preclerance in Montreal. All you have to do is take the shuttle bus from F to B. You should have plenty of time.

    Thank you very much, ZAP!

I FLY INTO ATLANTA AND I HAVE 40 MINUTES TO GET TO THE INTERNATIONAL TERMINAL TO GO TO LIBERIA COSTA RICA. IS THIS ENOUGH TIME>

Assuming both tickets are on Delta and were purchased together that is barely enough time. You don't actually have to change terminals, you just have to take the Plane Train from your arrival concourse to your departure concourse - E or F.

I am arriving on Delta in Terminal 4 and have 1 hour and 10 minutes to get to Alitalia Air in Terminal 1 flying to Italy. Will I have to go through security again? What is the fastest way to get to terminal 4 from terminal 1

You have to take the AIrTrain from T4 to T1 and go through security. You have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

We arrive from Palermo at 11:25 AM into Terminal 1 and leave at 12:50 PM to JFK from Terminal 5. Will we make it?

Did you purchase your tickets separately or together? If together and your bags are checked through to JFK then you can proceed directly to your departure gate in the T3 Satellite. T5 is just for check-in and security. No flights actually leave from there.

  • T8 International to Domestic Connection

I will be arriving on an AA flight from LHR to JFK T8 and departing to DCA also from T8. The connection time is 1hr15 minutes. Do I need to exit through immigration and then re-enter? Is this enough time to make the connection?

Yes, you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go through security and to your departure gate. That is 15 minutes shorter than the recommended time for that connection. It's possible but there's no room to spare for delays.

  • connection to Charleston

I am arriving from Ottawa, Canada via UNITED EXPRESS/TRANS STATES at 8:33 am and have a connection to Charleston via UNITED EXPRESS/MESA. Can someone please let me know which terminal I have to go to get my connected flight and how do I can go there via shuttle or etc...thanks

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Ottawa. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You will likely arrive in concourse A and depart from concourse C or D. A is connected to C and D by the AeroTrain and Mobile Lounge inside security.

  • Connecting flight time crunch?
    Apr 18, 2015

I have a delta flight from SLC arriving at JFK at 3:07pm (not sure what terminal) and then a connecting flight to the Dominican Republic leaving at 4pm from Terminal 4. Is this enough time between flights? Do I have to recheck my baggage or go through customs for the DR? Any advice would be great! Thanks!

All you have to do in JFK is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. If you arrive in Terminal 2, Delta runs a shuttle bus between T2 and T4 inside security. You will go through DR immigration and customs when you get to DR.

Thank you! Is that also enough time for my baggage to get put on the connecting flight as well?

Yes, it should be enough time.

  • LHR-ORD-LAX / BA and AA

Hi, I was wondering if I will have enough connecting time at ORD? I arrive from LHR by BA to terminal 5 at 13.45 and leave for LAX from terminal 3 at 15.10. It is all booked in the same reservation, but I will have checked luggage with me, and I am a EU national. I assume I will have to go through immigration and pick up my luggage and re-check it? So there is a big risk I will miss my connecting flight. What happens if I do? Will they rebook me free of charge? Thank you in advance!

That is 5 minutes shorter than the recommended International to Domestic connection time. Yes, you will have to claim your bags to go through US Customs, then re-check it at the transfer desk immediately after. Then take the ATS Train to T3 and go through security. You will probably make it if your flight arrives on-time. If you do miss your connection you will rebooked on the next available AA flight to LAX. AA has lots of flights from ORD to LAX.
