We have 50 minutes arriving from Copenhagen to catch flight to Memphis, TN, USA. Is that enough time? Will we need to go through customs coming from Copenhagen?

    1. You did not state the airport / city you arrive at in the USA, before changing flights to Memphis. (Atlanta ATL, or New York EWR or JFK ?). 2. However, any international arrival in the U.S. needs to go through passport check, retrieve checked bags, go through customs clearance and - if transferring to another flight - re-check-in bag (the tag should indicate layover and final destination Airport Codes)- this procedure takes 35-45 mins - most likely you arrive at and depart from at different terminals & thereafter need transportation. 50 mins is not realistic. (a) JFK has the Airtrain connecting terminals; so does EWR; At Atlanta, you take the Plane Train.

I did not make myself clear. After flying to Amsterdam from Dallas we leave on a boat from Amsterdam and end up in Copenhagen, so my question is, is 50 minutes enough time when flying from Copenhagen back to Amsterdam to catch a flight back to the US where the first stop would be Memphis with final destination to Dallas. My concern is the flight from Copenhagen to Amsterdam with a 50 minute layover.

I'll be arriving on United 1447 from SJO (San Jose CR) at 7:51pm, connecting to PHX on United 1726 at 9:10pm - is 1:19 enough time?

Your time to connect at IAH is very tight - as an international arrival you you will be processed at the International Arrivals building (part of Terminal E)at IAH can be accessed from both TE and TC, with separate US Customs. Arriving passengers go through customs & take the escalator down to Baggage Claim Level. From there they go through Exit Control and enter to the right the baggage recheck area, and straight out arrive at the International Arrivals Lobby which has an escalator down to train connecting to Terminals A, B & C - all served by United - Check your ticket and overhead screens at arrival for your departure flight & gate.

I have to transfer planes from Terminal 8 to Terminal 6 to catch my United connection. I have 51 minutes between flights. Is it an easy walk and should I have plenty of time?

Since the bus goes counter-clockwise, you are better off to walk: Terminal 8 of LAX has a walkway to Terminal 7, enter this terminal and go down to the tunnel connecting T7 to T6. Take the escalator up to the departures level and go through security check and on to your gate. 51 mins is enough time.

Arriving from Istanbul on Turkish Air, connecting to United to IAD. One hour ten minutes connect time. Which terminals will I be arriving/departing please???Thanks very much

    1. Both Turkish Airlines & United are listed under "Satellite Terminal". However, Terminal 5 of LDV Airport - designated for security-sensitive flights to the United States & Israel only - has special security checks & passport control. Pending completion of a new pier by 2012, passengers are being bussed from/to air carrier. Your connecting time there should suffice. At IAH you need to go tough U.S. customs clearance: All international arrivals are transported to the west end of Terminal D for customs clearance. You need to retrieve your bags, go through customs, and re-check-in your bags if you connect to another flight. Thereafter, take the AeroTrain to the concourse of your connecting flight (if you continue your journey).

I have 34 minutes between landing at LAX in what used to be a Continental flight (United 6191) and my next flight to Dulles (United 653). Will I have enough time - what's the likelihood that these flights arrive and depart in the same terminal?

United uses both Terminals 6 & 7. T6 has gates 60-69, T7 gates 70-77 (look at your ticket to see which gates you arrive at/ depart from; also check the overhead screens on arrival at LAX. If you need to transfer from T6 to T7, there is a tunnel connecting both, but you need to go through security again.

Flying Southwest into LAX, then connecting to US Airways flights to Phoenix - Puerta Vallarta. Both airlines appear to be in Terminal 1 at LAX. Do I need to go to leave Terminal 1 to check in at an Int'l terminal, or can I do everything in Terminal 1?

AT LAX both airlines use Terminal 1 - you simply transfer gate to gate (T1 has gates 1-14) - At Phoenix you arrive via US Airways at Terminal 4. Access of airline gates from Security Checkpoints A, B, C & D: (a) Check A to US Airways gates A1-A14 & A17-A30; (b) Check B to US Airways gates B1-B14, and to US Airways, Aeromexico, Air Canada, British Airways & WestJet at gates B15-B22, and International Gates B23-B28; (c) Check C to Southwest gates C1-C10 and C11-C20; and (d) check D to Southwest gates D1-D8. Moving walkways run between all gate areas.

This is about a connecting flight of United Airline. It arrives EWR at 10:15 am, and departs for China at 11:05am. My parents are in their 80's. Is it possible for them to catch the connecting flight? Do they need to go through customs and check in bags again at EWR?

Assuming your parents arrive at EWR by Continental / United or United Express from a domestic flight, they would arrive at Terminal A and would have to depart at Terminal C, which has gate area C1 arranged in a Y-shape with gates C70-75, C80-88 & C90-99 on each side; gate area C2 has gates C101A-115A-B (15 gates); gate area C3 has gates C12-130. Only international arrivals need to go through customs clearance. The Airtrain will take them to TC: At TA it is located on the Concourse level, post-security; at TC it stops on the upper level's center, post-security. They need to look at their ticket to see which terminal/ gate they arrive/ depart, and also need to check the overhead screens upon their arrival at EWR for their connecting flight. One hour is plenty of time.

  • gates & enough time to change?

my ticket has no gates. I am arriving AirTran Airways flight 1316 from PIT on 04-13-2012 with 45 min to get to my gate for AirTran Airways flight 36 to SFO. Is there a way to figure out which gate arriving & which gate departing? And how to get from arriving to departing gate? Worried I won't make connection

Since you use the same airline for both flights, you will arrive & depart from the North Terminal. Upon arrival, look at the overhead screens to find your airline & flight number - it will indicate your gate. Then simply follow signs to your connecting gate. 45 mins is enough time.

this sat - arriving from Milw at 8:10am on UA4626 with 46 min prior to the flight to Cancun UA1012 at 8:56am. Are we likely to have to change terminals? will be able to do this?!

    1. United uses Terminals A, B, C, & E at IAH. You need to look at your ticket to see which gate you arrive / depart from (i.e., A17, B60, etc.) (a) the above-ground TerminaLink train connects all terminals inside security; (b) If you arrive at gates C29-45 & need to tansfer to Terminal E, walk towards gates C14-24 and proceed straight on to TE. 46 mins is enough time.

My son is flying from Phoenix to Kansas City. He has a 43 minute layover in Houston and he has to transfer from terminal C to terminal B. Is it enough time? What tips can I give him to ensure he makes his connecting flight?

On arrival at IAH at Terminal C he should look at the overhead screens to find his airline, flight number & gate. The above-ground TerminaLink train connects all terminals inside security - follow signs. 43 mins is enough time. (dear Mom: your son is computer savvy & old enough to find this out by himself - if he is old enough to travel by himself - he is old enough to find out how to get around - advice from one mother to another!)

we are flying from YVR flight 1550 continental arriving 1:41 and need to change planes to Flight 1018 to cancun with a connection time of 34 mins. I would like to confirm our luggage will be transfered and the 34 mins is enough time to transfer.

34 mins is very close (even though you go through US customs clearance at Vancouver Airport. Note that Continental now uses the "United" name. You do not state the departure airline. If it is one other than United, you need to call United asking if they transfer your bags to the Cancun flight (otherwise you need to claim the bags on arrival and take them to your departure terminal to check them in there). These are the terminals and airline assignments at IAH - the above-ground TerminaLink train connects all terminals inside security - Terminal A (TA) A gates (Air Canada, Alaska, American, Delta, United, US Airways) have gates A1-15 & A17-30. TB's B gates (United) have 4 gateways at each of its corners, leading to gates 60-66, 68-75, 76-83 & 84-88. TC's TC gates (United) are divided into east gates C14-24 & west gates C29-45 . TD's D gates (AeroMexico, AirFrance, British, Emirates, KLM, Lufthansa, Qatar, Singapore, TACA, VivaAerobus) are opposite TE and have gates D1-3 (with a connection to C14-C24) and D4-12. TE's E gates (United) have one one side gates E12-24, on the opposite side E1-11. If arriving at gates C29-45 and transferring to Terminal E: walk towards gates C14-24 and proceeds straight on to TE.

    my departure airlines is united

is there anyway to find out gates at this point or when can we start checking. Needless to say I am nervous about the time, however, if they are selling this flight package from vancouver to cancun the time frame of 34 mins should be acceptable.

First time out of Newark. I have no idea gate # lvg to SAT but can't walk great distances - have COPD. Should I request wheelchair to go from checkin to gate?

    1. You depart at EWR from Terminal A's gate area A1 (to the left of the three gate areas) with a walkway leading to gates A10-18 arranged in a circle. 2. Open http://www.panynj.gov/airports/ewr-accessibility-services.html to get access information for EWR. Also contact your airline that you will need a wheelchair on arrival.

I am arriving on 4/28/12 on United from COS flight 5232 and connecting on United 4714 and only have 55 minutes to transfer. Could you help me with terminal connections or information on the airport.

Flight numbers at IAH are only posted for the present day. However, note that United serves Terminals A, B, C & international Terminal E. Look at your ticket (and on overhead screen on arrival) to see which terminal & gate you arrive / depart from: TA has gates A1-30; TB gates 60-88; TC gates C14-45; TE gates E1-24. If arriving at gates C29-45 you can walk to TE by walking towards gates C14-24 and proceeding straight to TE. The above-ground TerminaLink train connects all terminals inside security. 55 mins is enough time.

Arriving 5/4/12 on AA#1366 and departing on AA#1543 onto Austin with only 45 min. connection. What concourse/gates will #1366 use and #1543 use? Is it a quick & easy connection? If still hungry are there places to grab quick things to snack on when making connection?

    1. At DFW, gates areas are divided by the Skylink station, located in the center. Terminal A (American) has currently gates A17-39 - right past Gate 39 are walkways to the left to gates C1-39 and to the south to gates B1-39. (Gates A1-16 are currently under renovation.) Terminal B (American Eagle) has gates B1-39 - with walkways past gate 1 to gates D1-40 (left) and gates A1-39 (south); Terminal C (American) has gates C1-39 - with a walkway past C1 to gates A1-39. TD has gates D6-39. You need to look at your ticket - and on arrival at DFW at the overhead screens - for your gate number. Unless you find a snack stand on your way to your departure gate, your time does not allow for leaving the secured area. 2. Due to the long concourses and the distance between the terminals, the elevated 'Skylink' train starts in the International Terminal D at several points and then connects to the other terminals in their gateway center: Station escalator/ elevator locations for the Skylink: at TA between A13-A16 & A29-A34; at TB between both B9-B12 & B28-B31; at TC between both C8-C12 & C27-C32; at TD between both D11-20 & D24-34; and at TE between both E8-E11 & E31-E32. The Skylink runs every 2 minutes and takes an average of five minutes.

Wi-Fi should be free - especially in major airports. What gives?
