  • UsAir arr in rome

Arrive in Rome on US Air and connect to Alitalia for Palermo on separate ticket. Do I have to claim bag and go through security again . How much time

You can ask the US Airways agent in your origin city if they can check the bag through to Palermo by showing your Alitalia confirmation as US Airways and Alitalia do have an interline agreement. Otherwise you will have to claim your bag in Rome and take it to Terminal 1 to re-check. If you do get your bag checked through to Palermo by US Airways, you can just go directly to Terminal 1 to get your boarding pass after clearing immigration. I would leave at least 2 hours for your transfer, preferably closer to 3.

  • Arriving at DTW from LAX, connection to Amsterdam

We are flying from LAX on 3rd Sept 2014 to DTW and have 39 minutes to connect on to flight to Amsterdam. All on the same Delta ticket. Do we need to collect bags or go through immigration/security or can we go straight to the next gate - will 39 mins be enough? Thanks

You do not go through US Immigration when leaving the US. All you have to do in DTW is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate which will both be on the A concourse of the McNamara Terminal. Yes, you should have enough time if your flight from LAX is on-time.

Thank you very much, that puts my mind at ease!

  • Time needed from terminal 3 to International terminal
    Aug 1, 2014

I will be transferring from United in terminal 3 to an International flight to London on United. I originally had just over 2 hours but now see that they've changed my arriving flight and now only have 75 minutes. Is this enough time? Can I go directly to the international terminal without having to pass through security again? Going through security could take precious time. Should I book an earlier flight into SFO?

Yes, there is a walkway between T3 and the International Terminal inside security. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Transit through EWR

I am flying in from Toronto and transiting through EWR to London UK. I will pass through US customs in Toronto. Will I have to collect my bags and go through US customs again in EWR and check bag again?

No, your arrival into EWR will be like a domestic flight. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. If you are flying United you will arrive in Terminal A or C and depart from Terminal C.

If I fly in using Air Canada my outbound airline will be Virgin Atlantic. Does the above still apply?

You still don't have to go through US Immigration or customs on arrival. However if your tickets were not purchased together and your bags are not checked through to LHR you will have to claim them in Terminal A and take them on the AirTrain to Terminal B to check with Virgin Atlantic. Even if they are checked through, you will have to take the AirTrain to Terminal B, get your Virgin Atlantic boarding pass, and go through security.

Many thanks for the feedback - great service

  • connection time

My flight from LAX arrives at IAH at 7:50 pm connecting flight to SCL(Santigo Chile) is 1 hour and 15 min later will I be able to make this connection? do I have have to go back through security and get my luggage???

No, assuming both of your flights are on United you do not have to go through security or do anything with your baggage, all you have to do is go from your arrival gate, which will likely be in Terminal C to your departure gate in Terminal E. C and E are directly connected.

  • Is 45 mins enough time for connection (ARN-FRA-IAD)
    Aug 1, 2014
    1
Flt from ARN arriving 12:15; flt to IAD departing 13:10. Do I have to go through immigration, etc. OR is there separate internat'l departure? What gates do I arrive/depart?

You will go through Schengen exit passport check and then security at your departure gate. You won't know your exact gates until the day of your flight. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

  • How much time will it take to connect from T2 to T1
    Aug 1, 2014

I have 2 hours for connection. But I travelled with different airlines. I have to get my checked luggage from T2 and get it checked again in T1. That also means I have to get through security again. Is 2 hours enough?

It will be very hard for you to make your connection considering that you will have to claim your bags at T2, take the AirTrain, then check in T1.

  • VCE to FCO to JFK
    Aug 1, 2014

We'll be flying 6:40am flight to Rome(FCO) from Venice (VCE), arriving at 7:45am. Our flight to New York (JFK) leaves at 9:45am. Is that plenty of time to make the connection? I'm assuming that first flight is domestic, so there won't be a problem at all. We don't plan to check any bags.

Yes, that should be enough time, especially if your flight to JFK is on Alitalia meaning you don't have to take the shuttle to Terminal 5. If you do have to go to Terminal 5 it will be a little more difficult but still doable.

We'll be flying out on American Airline, so it'll have to be T5, unfortunately. As long as AirItalia flight leaves on time... ;)

  • Enough time

There seems to be many comments about making connecting flights. Like everyone else I am worried that a 55 minute connection between spirit flights is not enough. Will I need to go through customs if my first flight is domestic (ie NY to FLL)? Is that enough time if both flights are within the same terminal? Thanks for the help.

No, you do not go through US customs when leaving the US. If both flights are on spirit and your first flight is on-time you should have plenty of time.

Flying into LAX on US Airways at 8:10 Sat. at Terminal 3 - connecting with American Flight leaving at 8:50 - Terminal 4 - (40 minutes).Carrying bags - If we take the AA connecting shuttle from T3 Gate 39 will we be able to make our connecting flight to Hawaii on time?

Yikes, that's a really hard connection. Unless your US Airways flight is quite early I don't see how you can make it.

I have a flight with UA, from LRH to MCO and it stops of IDA. The stop over time is 1hour 14minutes. Will this be enough time? What do i have to do to get on the right flight?

1 hr 14 mins is not sufficient for an International -> Domestic transfer at IAD. It's possible, but it's below the minimum connection time. You arrive in the C/D concourse at IAD, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, and re-check your bags with United, then go through security and back to your departure gate which will also be on C/D. You should contact whoever you booked this ticket from, notify them that it is an improperly short connection, and ask to be rebooked on a later flight to MCO or an earlier flight to IAD.

  • Is 1:15 enough to connect? Bags checked through?
    Jul 31, 2014

Hello. It may be a little late but... We leave tomorrow night on AS 1869 from Lihue, Kauai, and then connect with DL1506 to Detroit. We arrive at LAX terminal 4 and leave from 5. Our connection time is 1:15. Is this enough time? Does it matter we fly on to Europe from Detroit? Thanks!

If your bags are checked through that should be enough time. Check in for your Delta flight online before you leave Hawaii as you may arrive in T5 after the checkin cutoff. If your bags are not checked through because you bought separate tickets you will not have enough time to claim your bags and get them to T5 before the bag cutoff. The fact that you are connecting onwards to Europe from DTW doesn't matter.

I'm travelling from Detroit to Chicago and from Chicago to Warsaw. Do I have to claim and re check my bags when I arrive in Chicago?

Were your tickets bought separately or together? What airline are you flying Detroit -> Chicago?

The tickets were purchased separately. I'm flying with United airlines from Detroit and then Polish airlines Lot from Chicago to Warsaw.

United and LOT are both in Star Alliance, so you can ask the United agent in Detroit if they can check your bag through to WAW by showing your LOT confirmation. If they do so, then you will not have to claim it in ORD and you can just take the ATS train to T5, get your LOT boarding pass, and go through security and to your departure gate. If they are not willing to, you will have to claim your bag in T1 and take it with you on the ATS train.

  • International to domestic transfer
    Jul 31, 2014

Hi! I will be flying to SFO from Singapore via an international flight Singapore Airlines. I have a domestic flight (united airlines) to catch approximately 2 hours later. I would like to know if 2 hours is sufficient time. What is the fastest way to get from flight to flight (including checking in again)? Thank you for any help!

Edit: Domestic flight from SFO to DEN via United Airlines

2 hours should be sufficient time. You should make sure your bags are tagged through to DEN by the SQ agent in Singapore. When you arrive in SFO you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, and go through US Customs, then re-check your bags with United. Then you will go up to the departure level, get your United boarding pass if you don't already have it, and go through security and to your departure gate. The United gates are connected to the International Terminal by a walkway inside security.

  • Connection Madrid-Newark-Lima

I travel to Newark just to make a transfer to Lima, Peru. Only 1:50 hours from landing to departure. Considering that I am not travelling to any other USA destiny, do I need to follow same security protocols than trips to USA? Is it 1:50 enough for transfer? Thank you

    Flying with United. Thanks

Yes, even though you are traveling onwards you still have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags with United and go through security. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time.
