  • Arriving from Jamaica Sunday night How long is customs wait?
    Sep 1, 2014
I need to know how long we realistically need arriving on a Sunday night from Jamaica, then have to connect to another domestic flight on AA. We are travelling with a baby also...

90 minutes is the minimum connection time and should be OK.

Hi, I'm considering a flight with Delta from Dublin to New Orleans via JFK. We will have cleared security in Dublin, but have only 1 hour 5 minutes to make the connecting flight to NO. Both are with delta so I was hoping this might be doable? Thanks!!

Yes. it should be doable but doesn't leave much time for delays. You will likely have to take the shuttle bus from T4 to T2 upon arrival.

  • Transfer time from terminal 4 to terminal 1
    Sep 1, 2014
Would I have enough time to transfer from a Delta flight from Boston arriving at 20.33 to an Air France flight to London departing at 22.30?

Yes, that should be plenty of time. You won't have to do anything with your baggage and both boarding passes should be issued in Boston. You will just have to take the AirTrain to T1 and go through security.

Hi I am looking at a ticket to fly from NYC to John Wayne airport with a stop in Chicago. The time between flights is only 35 minutes...both are AA flights and the route is domestic. Is this enough time to make my second flight and would my bags make it??? or is this a bad idea?

Yes, it's possible but it doesn't leave much time for delays, which are very common when departing NYC airports.

  • Dropping at Terminals ONE and FIVE
    Sep 1, 2014
I have family that leave tomorrow, Sept. 1 for Ireland, and also my husband is leaving around the same time for L.A. How do I drop him at Terminal One and come back around to drop the other part of my family at Terminal Five? The map isn't clear. Thank you!

Just drive along the departure level. You will come to T1 first, then follow the signs to T5. You will come to it after T3.

  • Tight connection
    Sep 1, 2014
We arrive at Chicago airport at 2:10 PM at terminal 5 and have to be at terminal 3 to catch a flight to Seattle at 3:35 PM. Do we have enough time since we have to go through customs?

1 hr 15 minutes is probably not enough time. What airlines are you flying and where are you coming from?

We are coming from Spain on Iberia Airlines to Chicago and leaving on American Airlines to Seattle

Yes, that is below the International -> Domestic minimum connection time. You can try it (it is possible, especially if your Iberia flight is early) and if you miss it they'll rebook you. or you can call where you bought the ticket from and ask to be rebooked because it's an illegal itinerary.

I am flying from norfolk, virginia to dallas and the connecting flight to narita. Do i have to retrieve my checked in baggages before i proceed to the departure gate? How do i go from a terminal to another terminal?

No, on the way out of the US you won't have to do anything with your baggage in DFW. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate in Terminal D. All terminals are connected inside security by the Skylink train.

  • Terminal D to Terminal A?
    Aug 31, 2014
I am travelling into Houston Terminal D (BA) which lands at 14:30 from LHR. I'm considering getting a connecting flight from Terminal A, which would leave at 16:45. I've read about long queues at immigration - I am an American but am travelling with a non-American, so am aware of long waits. I'm guessing it's incredibly unlikely that we'd make this connecting flight? How long does it take to travel to Terminal A? Should we be anticipating 2h waits at customs? Thanks!

I would not expect 2 hour waits at immigration. However, since you are planning on booking a separate ticket, you may have to transfer the bags from Terminal A yourself and you will have to take the Inter-Terminal Train which is much slower than the TerminaLink train. I would leave 3 hours for your transfer.

You follow the signs to C, then follow the signs to E. Also airport shuttle bus routes 11 and 55 connect all terminals.

  • I am coming into IAD from Roanoke to connect to Turkish Airlines IST
    Aug 30, 2014
Is 2hrs 54 mins enough connection time ?

Yes, that should be plenty of time. You will arrive in concourse A and depart from concourse B, which are connected directly. If you purchased your tickets together your bags will be checked through to IST in Roanoke and you won't have to do anything with your bags at IAD.

Many thanks for speedy reply. I know how long it took arriving from South Africa and was worried that the same would happen on the way out.

  • Can u guide me how much time from Terminal B to Terminal E
    Aug 30, 2014
I'm arrive on 2:17Pm at Terminal B try to catch southwest airline on 4;15 at terminal E.Please tell me how much time ? Am I ok to get to terminal E on time?

You can only do it easily without checked bags and if you check-in online and print your Southwest boarding pass before you leave. To walk from Terminal B to Terminal E you follow the signs to Terminal C, walk all the way across Terminal C, following the signs to Terminal E.

  • Terminal 2 to terminal 5
    Aug 30, 2014
Hi. I m travelling from yyz to ahm & i've connecting flight from yyz air canada via chicago to Ahm with air india & i want to got from terminal to terminal 5 & i have only 3 hours...Is it good enough time? & what about my luggage? It will be directly transferred from 1 flight to another flight or am i supposed to carry it from the connecting flight. Do i have enough time to transfer the luggage?

Yes, 3 hours should be plenty of time. If you purchased your tickets together your baggage will be tagged through to India in Toronto. If you purchased your tickets separately you will have to claim them in Terminal 2 upon arrival and take them to T5 to check with Air India. Regardless, 3 hours should be enough time. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto.

That is terminal 2 to terminal that enough time?? How much time does it take normaly? N i have two fifferent flights in one itenary air canada and air india..did i have to go woth my bagges again?

If you have one itinerary your bags should be checked over to Air India in Toronto so you won't have to do anything with them in Chicago. To get from T2 to T5 via the ATS train shouldn't take more than 20-25 minutes. You will probably have to get your Air India boarding pass from the Air India check-in counter. Then you will go through security and to your departure gate. Again, you should have plenty of time.

  • ARN --> EWR--> YYZ
    Aug 30, 2014
I'm flying into EWR from Stockholm and connecting to Toronto. I believe my flight arrives in Terminal C and then departs in Terminal C but my question is will my bags be checked through to my final destination of YYZ? I have lots of time but I am travelling with 3 children. Thanks!

If both of your flights were bought together your bags will be checked through. However, you will have to claim them to go through US Customs, then re-check them with your airline after clearing customs.

    Aug 30, 2014
On United, from San Francisco, arriving Dulles 4:10 & departing for Paris 5:20. Is 1 hr. 10 min. enough time? Am U.S. citizen, wife is Japanese, do I pass through immigration in D.C. or in Paris? Does immigration take much time?

You will go through Schengen Immigration when you get to Paris. You do not go through US Immigration when leaving the US. All you have to do in IAD is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate, which will both be on the C/D concourse.

  • Connection 40 Minutes Enough Time If On Last Seat of Plane?
    Aug 31, 2014
We are traveling AA with a 40 minute connection to another AA flight. We'll be disembarking as of now from the next to last row of a smaller plane (EMBRAER EMB 175 Jet, row 22). What are the odds of making this connection so that our luggage follows us to the next connection? Would they be willing to change our seats on this basis? (Flight is a couple months away).

Oh, and the next connection is NOT AA, so I'm a big concerned about luggage keeping up with us if we miss this flight.

What airline is the second flight on?

Both AA flights for the first and second leg. Not familiar with Chicago airport. And not sure if either flight tends to run on time. Thanks.

If both flights are AA then they will both be in Terminal 3. If the flight is a few months away better seats should be available now - log into your itinerary on and check. If your flight is on-time this should be a very doable connection.

Thanks for the input. Our seats have already been assigned and confirmed by the airport (I requested them side by side.) I'm not very sure how to go about getting them changed. I went through I'll have to dig into this, but I didn't see a place to request a change. Is calling the airline the best idea on this? I really appreciate the advices.

Ask the flight attendants to allow you to disembark before everyone else. They can make an announcement as soon as they pull up to the gate (or open the doors) that a passenger needs to catch a connecting flight and needs to get off first. Some people might grumble but in my experience most travelers try to help each other and will give you the courtesy of not stepping out into the aisle so that you can pass. Good luck

Thank you so much. I had a plane stay on the ground for an hour once checking a malfunctioning light so that th connecting flight left ten minutes early--last flight of the night. We had a three year old and a baby then, had to find car seats, cab driver got mad waiting for us, left the van doors open, gunned the motor, throwing our luggage out. My husband, a very kind and soft spoken man, had to yell at him to get him to stop, step back out to retrieve our belongings from the street. All the while, we were trapped in the van with a smoker, and my toddler was coughing his head off asking why people smoked in an already tense environment. It was awful. We were spent, nerves frayed, didn't sleep all night trying to go into another day of travel. I was scarred. We asked the stewardess to let the connecting flight know and she said, "I'm sorry, we cannot do that." Really? We ran, carrying diaper bags and stroller, only to watch that plane taxi away ten minutes early. Probably had a whopping ten people on the flight if it was anything like ours. Good to know stewardess will help in a pinch. I sure hope so! I got our seats moved to the middle section last night, so maybe that will help a bit. Never hurts to ask in a pinch, right?
