I am arriving on AF terminal E at 6:25pm. Knowing that I will need to clear customs and immigrations before I head to terminal B to catch my 8:40pm domestic flight back to LAX how much time do I need? Do i have a chance?

Yes, I think you have a good chance.

  • JNB to JFK to SEA checked baggage question
    Aug 27, 2014
Hi I will be arriving at JFK on SAA at terminal 4 at 6.40am and will be going on to SEA on Jetblue at 8.59am at Terminal 5 I am a permanent resident. Do I have to claim recheck my luggage? How do I do this if have to. Have never traveled through JFK with checked luggage. Is there enough time if I have to?

Yes, you will have to claim your baggage after clearing US Immigration in order to clear US Customs. If your tickets were bought together you should then be able to re-check them with JetBlue immediately afterwards. If bought separately you will have to take them with you on the AirTrain to T5 to check. You should have enough time. You can check in for your JetBlue flight before you leave South Africa to save a little time.

Hi there, if I fly into Newark from Canada, then take a connecting flight to Lima (Peru), all with United Airlines, will I have to go through U.S. customs and pick up luggage? The flight I'm looking at has a 1hr layover in Newark, so if I need to pick up luggage and go through customs, then I probably won't make it, right? Thanks!

If you are coming from Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal, Ottawa, or Halifax you will pre-clear US Immigration in your origin city. Your arrival into Newark will be like a domestic flight. If you are coming from somewhere else in Canada you will have to go through US Immigration in Newark and your transfer time will be insufficient.

Thank you for your reply! On an unrelated note, what about if I fly in from Mumbai (BOM), connecting in Newark on my way to Lima? Would I have to clear customs in Newark? Thanks again.

Yes, in that instance you would have to clear US Immigration in Newark.

  • Connecting time
    Aug 27, 2014
I will land at terminal B and catch a flight to London at terminal E, will 40 minutes enough time for connection?

Yes, that should be enough time if your first flight is on-time. All terminals are connected inside security by the TerminaLink train.

  • SFO to LAX to Brazil
    Aug 27, 2014
Hi, My trip is from SFO to LAX and then to Brazil. I'm arriving on gate 46B (T4) and then I need to go to Gate 212. Questions: a. where is this gate 212? b. how long does it take to get from terminal 4, gate 46B, to gate 212? c. do I need to go through security again? I have only 40 minutes (hoping my first flight does not get delayed). Thanks.

I cannot find a gate 212. What airline are you flying on your second flight?

  • SFO - LAX - Abu Dhabi Etihad Airways
    Aug 27, 2014
Hi, I will be travelling from SFO to LAX to ABU Dhabi with my one year old kid. I will be arriving at Terminal 4 and will have to Depart through TBIT. My Transit time is 2 hours. I have 2 Questions : 1. Is the transit time 2 hours enough to transfer from terminal 4 to TBIT ? Also, Do i have to go through TSA security again at LAX ? Thanks in advance.

Yes, 2 hours should be enough time and yes, you will have to go through security in the TBIT.

  • LAX to TBIT
    Aug 27, 2014
Hi, I have a 10 pm arrival at LAX then I have to catch my flight to Brisbane, Australia which departs at 11:45. This is the first time travelling by myself and I'm scared and nervous. Do I grab my luggage from Terminal 4 (my arrival) and then do I have to go through TSA screenings then head to TBIT? If anyone can give me a walkthrough, I'd really appreciate it. And will I have enough time to make my flight?

If both of your tickets were purchased together (and I assume your flying into LAX on American) your bags will be tagged through to Brisbane in your origin. Assuming your origin is within the US, you won't have to do anything with your bags in LAX. You will arrive in T4, exit the terminal, walk to the left as you exit (against the flow of traffic), the next building you come to will be the TBIT. Then you will go through security and to your departure gate. You should be able to get your Qantas boarding pass from American at your origin airport, but if you can't you will have to get it first from the Qantas counter.

  • Paris to Houston connection
    Aug 27, 2014
Making travel arrangements and want to check on ability to arrive ATL on AF8984 at 8:20 pm at terminal I and departing on AF2134 at 9:50 pm from terminal S. Is that enough time?

Yes, that should be enough time. Both flights will be operated by Delta. You won't actually have to go to the S Terminal. After clearing customs and re-checking your bags you will go through security and take the Plane train directly to your departure concourse.

Thanks! Can you tell me where we will recheck our bags for the Delta flight to Houston?

There will be a re-check desk immediately after you clear US Customs.

  • Arriving on UA from Washington DC

Both of your flights will be in Terminal 1.

  • International flight from Birmingham England on 1 ticket.
    Aug 27, 2014
Im flying on One ticket from bhx to sfo, with a connection in ewr. the connection time is 1hr 50. Is this long enough and what is the process when i get there. Thanks in advance

EDIT - I will be flying with United

When you arrive from Birmingham in Newark you will be funneled to US Immigration where they will check your passport. Then you will collect your baggage, then go through US Customs, then re-check your bags with United. Then if you arrived in Terminal B you will take the Airtrain to Terminal C. If you arrived in Terminal C you just have to go to the departure level. You will then go through security and to your departure gate for your San Francisco flight. On the return to Birmingham in Newark all you should have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, which should both be in Terminal C

  • connecting flight AMS-ODR-SFO
    Aug 27, 2014
I have connecting flight from AMS-ODR-SFO. Layover in Chicago is 1 hour and 45 minutes. I'm not an US-citizen, so my biggest concern is the lane at the migration. This is my first time at the O'hare airport, so I also don't know the distance from the migration to the baggage claim and from the baggage claim to the counter to drop off my bags again. Could you please tell me the connecting flight procedure? Is there a fast lane at the migration for people who need to catch their next flight? Is 1 hour and 45 minutes enough time to make the connection? And how far is the baggage claim to the drop off counter?

    I'm flying Lufthansa

Both of your flights will actually be on United. you will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, collect your baggage, go through US Customs, then immediately after, re-check your bags with United. Then you will follow the signs up 2 levels to the ATS Train, You will take the ATS train 3 stop to Terminal 1 where you will enter Terminal 1 and go through security and to your departure gate. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

thanks for the info! how long does it usually take to go through US immigration and customs. Arrival time is 1.25 pm

another question, where do i need to recheck the bags? is it close to customs?

  • Assistance upon arrival

Forgot to mention in previous request that I will be with a person who has a back problem and cant walk long distances in one go and am wondering if I can request and who do I ask for a wheelchair upon his arrival in IAD.

You need to contact your airline BEFORE your flight to request the wheelchair.

  • Connecting flights with short layover times
    Aug 27, 2014
I will be flying rom SNA john Wayne airport to HNL. Transfer in SFO. there is less than an hour between arrival and departure of flights in SFO. Is that enough time to make the transfer.

Yes, if both of your flights are on United that should be enough time.

  • Do I have enough time?

No, that should be enough time.

  • Terminal 2 to 4, switching airlines. Luggage?
    Aug 26, 2014
I'll be flying to JFK via LAX from YYC (Calgary) in October. Haven't been through LAX in YEARS. First flight segment is an AA codeshare operated by WS. What I'm wondering is: Will I need to grab my bags and re-check them in for the AA flight? They were all booked together. Second, I'll be making the connection from terminal 2 to 4. How much time is needed for that and can/should I just walk between terminals? I think I have a couple hours layover. Thanks all!

Your bags should be checked through to JFK in Calgary so you won't have to do anything with them in LAX. You should just walk from T2 to T4. It will take about 15-20 minutes. You will have to go through security again once you get there.
