  • AA to LAN time concern
    Apr 18, 2014
    1
I just learned that, in the interest of time, I should claim my checked bag when arriving MIA and make haste. I was not aware that I have to go through security again. Does this mean a huge general security line with my bag a second time? Or do I simply rush to LAN counter and check and then at some point go through security? My flight arrives at 1:50 pm and LAN leaves At 5:10 on a Wednesday.

Correction, the incoming flight ifrom Charlotte is USAIR and this week appears to be using gate E4. Time concerns!

  • Kitchener to Chicago one hour to make connection
    Apr 18, 2014

We are flying from Kitchener, Ontario to Portland, Oregon with a one hour connection in Chicago, I know we have to go from terminal 5 to terminal 3. We are flying with American Airlines. Will our luggage go straight to the plane or will we have to collect it before going to Terminal 5? Is one hour going to be enough time? Thanks.

No, one hour is not enough time. You need to go through US Immigration, claim your baggage, go through US customs, re-check your bags, and then take the ATS Train to Terminal 3, then go through security and to your gate. It's very hard to do that in an hour. For some reason American has been selling a lot of illegal connections on that Kitchener flight, probably because the software doesn't realize that it requires clearing immigration in Chicago. Unless you're willing to risk it, you need to call American and get your flight changed or refunded.

Thanks for your response, after a lengthy call to AA and US AIr, they insist this is a legal connection and that we should make it. So I guess we will risk it!

  • Layover time for international to domestic terminal
    Apr 18, 2014

My spouse and MIL landing at IAH by Qutar air line and changing their flight for departure to Dallas. Layover time is about 90 minutes, if both flights will in time. is 90 minute time, enough to complete all customs, security, US entry related formalities and transit with baggage from terminal D to Terminal E and then to terminal A for catching flight for Dallas? We do not have any idea about IAH. Please note that my MIL is senior citizen and aged lady. Can any one deliberate activities wise time needed and help us. Thanks in advance.

    It should be enough time.

International Arrivals at Terminal D go through secure corridors, walk across the sky bridges to adjoining Federal Inspection Services (FIS), where they will claim baggage & clear U.S. Customs; if continuing journey, re-check in bags at recheck counters and proceed to the Arrivals Lobby, where an escalator down to the Inter-Terminal Train will take you to your connecting terminal. Note: Terminal E is exclusively for United's International flights - its domestic flights are out of Terminals B (B gates) & C (C gates) which could look like this on your ticket: TB-B or TB; TC-C or TC). If indeed your connection to IAD is via Qatar, would be out of TE, a tunnel connects TD to TE. I suggest you open www.ifly.com/iah, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text

Your Qatar flight arrives in Terminal D, which shares immigration with Terminal E. If you are flying American to DFW, that will depart out of Terminal A.

Dear. frapr14, can i have your e mail ID. I assume you have rich experience at IAH. Thank you very much for guidance.

You are right, flight arrives at TD, and AA to DFW depart from TA. From map it is learn that there is much distance between TE and TA, so i would like to know 90 minutes shall enough or not. What happens if QR 713 late by 10 to 15 minutes. shall all procedure can be completed within 1 hour, including transportation of baggage and moving TE to TA after processing customs/immigration. Thanks.

  • T3-TBIT

What is the easiest way to get to TBIT from T3. Is walking possible? if yes, can you give me any direction?

TBIT is west of T3 (walk to the right when you emerge outdoors. You can also catch the free shuttle "parking lot C" as that shuttle stops at all terminals. (You won't go to parking lot C, you'll just catch that shuttle under the blue LAX Shuttle sign).

It is much faster to walk than to take the shuttle. T3 and the TBIT are right next to each other. Just walk to the right as you exit T3, either on the arrivals or departures level.

  • 1 hr 20 min Impossible transfer time?
    Apr 18, 2014

Hi, I'm arriving with a Delta flight at 4:10 PM from Milan. I have AA tickets to Miami departing at 5:30 PM ( they changes time after I purchased tickets and it's last flight of day). It's impossible to clear customs, collect bags, check bags and change terminals in that amount of time?

That will be really tough. It's possible if your Milan flight is early, but still very difficult. You will probably have to transfer the bags yourself and probably get to T8 after the bag cutoff. You could request a refund from AA considering they changed the time on you and book a flight on JetBlue to Fort Lauderdale (I assume they have one later than 5:30 PM).

  • 50 min connection JFK-MIA-Cancun
    Apr 17, 2014

Is 50 minutes enough to connect if we are flying July 1 from JFK with a MIA connection and on to Cancun? We get into MIA at 8:35am and depart MIA at 9:25am. Thank you

If both of your flights are on American then yes that should be enough time. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Delta connection 30 min?
    Apr 17, 2014

Just booked a flight not realizing it has a 30 min. connection time from CVG to LHR. Called Delta said it should be enough time! Both flights have same number! Can we make this? Rebook?

Yes, it will be enough time if your first flight is on-time. Both flights will be in the relatively small Terminal A and all you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

thanks for your reply. My husband in concerned so we may have to eat the change fees. Yuk!

  • Connecting time international flights
    Apr 17, 2014

Will We, family with 2 kids, have enough time to make our international connection if we arrive at 16:30at JFK from Toronto with Canadian Express and our flight to London leaves at 18:30 with Virgen A. And can we stay at the international side of the airport or do we have to go in and out of passport control?

There's no such airline as Canadian Express. Do you mean Air Canada Express? You should have enough time. You will pre-clear US Immigration in Toronto. If you purchased your tickets together then Air Canada should be able to check your bags through to London in Toronto. Otherwise you will have to claim them in JFK. Then you will take the AirTrain from Terminal 7 to Terminal 4 where you will have to get your Virgin Atlantic boarding passes if you don't already have them, check your bags if you had to claim them, and go through security and to your gate. You have enough time, but you will have to hurry and it doesn't leave much time for delays.

  • Enough time?

We are flying to O'Hare on LH from WI and arrive at 2:12. WE depart for Frankfurt at 4:05. Will we need to change terminials, recheck bags, and go through security again? Will this be enough time? Thanks

Lufthansa does not fly to Wisconsin. Your flight from Wisconsin will be on United Express. All you have to do in O'Hare is go from your arrival gate, which will likely be in Terminal 2, to your departure gate in Terminal 1. However, Terminal 2 and Terminal 1 are connected inside security by a walkway. Follow the signs. You don't have to do anything with your bags. You should have enough time.

I am travelling from Beirut to Barcelona via Rome, we will land in terminal 3 and the takeoff to Barcelona will be from terminal 1. We have an European Passport (french), and we have 90 minutes of connection in the Airport, will it be enough to make the connection

Yes, that should be enough time. You will go through passport control as you cross over into Terminal 1.

Hello I was wondering if i have to claim my baggage and get them rechecked in chicago. My final destination is Calgary Canada and Im coming from beirut lebanon on MEA with a layover in frankfurt and chicago, both those flights are with united.

Yes, after you clear US Immigration, you will claim your luggage, go through US Customs, and then re-check it with United. Then you will take the ATS Train from Terminal 5 to Terminal 1 or 2 (check monitors for where your Calgary flight will depart) and go through security and to your gate.

  • Terminal C to Terminal B

I am crazy worried that I have 35 min to get from C to B coming up in June. I don't yet have any "gate" information where my flight will come in at C, and then rush to B ... whatever gate. I have never used IAH before, is the train the fastest way to get to Terminal B?

Yes, the TerminaLink train is by far the best way to get from C to B.

  • Connecting in Dulles Airport from Ottawa, Canada to Denver, CO.
    Apr 16, 2014

I am connecting in Dulles from Ottawa, Canada on May 9th, Flight United Airlines 5843 connecting to UA 1585 to Denver, CO. I have 1h58 minutes. Is that enough? I believe I go through US customs in Ottawa before departure.

Yes, that should be plenty of time. If you arrive in the A concourse you take the Aerotrain or Mobile Lounge to the C/D concourse where your Denver flight will depart. Yes, you will preclear US Immigration in Ottawa.

  • LAX > MIA > BGI and back.
    Apr 16, 2014

Hello. I'll be flying LAX > MIA > BGI on American Airlines. I have 1:45 time between flights on the way there (LAX > MIA > BGI). And then I have a 2:30 layover in MIA on the return flight (BGI > MIA > LAX). Will I have enough time to make both connections? Do I need to recheck bags?

Yes, you should have enough time both ways. On your way to Barbados you won't have to do anything with your bags, however, on the way back you will go through US immigration, claim your bags, go through US customs, then re-check them, then go through security.

Awesome! Thank you for the info :)
