Where is the US Post Office located and how can you access it from terminal D

  • arrive terminal D, change to depart terminal F

if i arrive on USAir in Terminal D, but have to change plane leaving from terminal F, what gate do i go to to catch the shuttle bus, and do i have to go through security again?

At PHL, Terminal F is on the North side of the terminal complex - a distance from the other terminals. The US Airways shuttle only makes its runs to Terminal F from Gates C16 or A1. Therefore, you would have to take the bus to Terminal C's gate 16, then take the connector to Terminal D (gates D1-16).

US Airways does not use Terminal D. Terminal D is United, Air Canada, American, Alaska, and Delta.

My daughter is flying on 8 Dec with Qantas from Sydney to Dallas arriving at 1.45 at Terminal D. Her connecting American Airlines flight to Tampa leaves at 3.10 and we have no idea from which Terminal it will be departing. Its her first "solo" flight and she is very concerned about what she needs to do upon arrival, how and where to check her luggage onto the Tampa flight and most importantly, can it be done within that time frame?

She will definitely need to hurry. On arrival she will go through US immigration, then claim her bags, then go through customs, then immediately re-check her bags with American. She will then go upstairs and back through security. Her flight to Tampa will likely leave from Terminal A, but could also be from C or D. If she has to change terminals, she will have to take the SkyLink Train, which runs inside security between all terminals. If she misses her connection then American has several later flights to Tampa she can be rebooked on.

Thanks for your helpful information. I have another question. I am flying Tucson/DFW/Tampa also on the 8 Dec (having arrived in the USA 2 weeks earlier) and arrive 30mins prior to my daughter. I am booked on the same flight as my daughter from DFW/Tampa. Where would be the closest point that I could meet her, after she has cleared customs, so that I can assist her in finding her way to the Terminal from which we will be departing? Although I'm seriously considering changing our flight to Tampa to a later time based on the comments I've read on this forum :(

You can make your connection without going through security again, but if you want to meet your daughter when she exits customs, you will have to go to Terminal D baggage claim. The exit from customs should be fairly obvious.

Thanks so much for your help ZAP

  • Toronto to Newark to Hong Kong - clear security again?

Hi there, I will be traveling on a flight leaving Toronto to Newark, and then a connecting flight from Newark to Hong Kong - will I have to clear security again? Also, it looks like we only have about 1h20mins or so to connect, is that enough time? Thanks so much!

    What airlines are you flying?

I think it will be United Airlines. I have the same question with KL, but I want to go back in Jan. I am not sure if it will delay from YYZ to EWR since I only have an hour layover at EWR. Does anyone know the possibly of being delayed? And how is the flight from EWR to HKG (if anyone has traveled a long flight (Boeing 777) with UA). Thanks!

An hour is pretty tight and EWR is very delay prone. You may have to take a shuttle but sfrom Terminal A to Terminal C upon arrival to EWR. However, by taking the shuttle bus you will avoid having to go through security again. The 777's that United uses on EWR-HKG are fairly new and nice, but nothing special - they do have entertainment screens in every seat and adequate food/drink service.

I'll be flying United. Thanks for the tip on the shuttle!

  • Connecting flight (Buffalo from Paris with KLM/Delta)
    Aug 30, 2013

Noticed there was a similar post flying from Amsterdam. I'm flying from Aberdeen to Paris, and then on to Detroit (with KLM- Delta operated)- I have a connection time of 1 hour 55 minutes to get to Buffalo (straight through ticket with Delta). Arrive in Detroit early afternoon on a Thursday- will the connection be possible? I'm a British National. Have been through Detroit before, but not as the point of entry. Cheers

On arrival at DTW at International Terminal D (TD), you need to go through passport check, retrieve checked bags, go through customs clearance and - if transferring to another flight - re-check-in bags. Delta uses Terminal E, reached by the Sky Link train, which runs at post-security: At TD, stopping at gates D2, 20, 25 & 34; at TE stopping at gates E8-11 & E31-32. It runs every 2 mins and takes about 5 mins on average. You have enough transfer time.

tuaug is confusing DTW with DFW, because he is a moron, ignore everything he said. At DTW you will arrive in the McNamara terminal where you will clear immigration, claim your bags, clear customs, and recheck your bags, then go back upstairs and through security. The McNamara consists of 3 concourses in two long bars (A and B/C) which are connected by an underground tunnel. It is very simple to navigate once you get through security.

Many thanks for the reply ZAP. Do you think that that's all possible in 1 hr 55 min. I guess if I missed the connection, KLM/Delta would stick me on the next flight? I presume it wouldn't be too busy on a Thurs. afternoon.

Yes, you shoul dhave enough time. Thurs afternoon will actually be pretty busy, but you should still be OK, yes, if you miss then they'll put you on their next Detroit-Buffalo flight

  • Left Baggage

Is there a place in the airport where I can leave my luggage? I will be travel on Delta airline as a domestic flight, which terminal should I go for check in?

At JFK, most Delta domestic flights depart/arrive at Terminal 2 - exception: Flights to LAX, SFO & SEA, which use Terminal 4. (A Delta shuttle bus runs between both terminals, gate-to-gate. Terminal 4's Arrivals lobby, has baggage hold (tel. (718) 751-4020) - which also has Baggage Wrapping by 'Secure Wrap' in the departure level.

  • Arriving Thai Airways from Bali, connecting to NRT

Hello! I'm arriving on Thai Airways from Bali to BKK. I have approx. 4 hours to connect to NRT via All Nippon air. Both are Star Alliance. I'm finding it confusing to understand where luggage goes, and if I need to clear customs or pick up bags or get a new ticket. Thanks!

At BKK, your baggage will be automatically transferred to your departing flight. Transferring from an International to another International flight: After disembarkation, go to Level 2 and (to the Transfer Checkin Counter if you have no boarding pass); go through security checkpoint on either levels 2 or 3, and proceed to the hold rooms in Concourses D, E, F or G. Your boarding pass & the overhead screens at BKK will indicate your flight and gate number (i.e., gate F6). For terminal /Concourse details, I suggest you open www.ifly.com/bkk then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

    THANK YOU :D

  • Arriving to ORD (T5 from NRT), then flying to YYZ (from ORD T2)
    Sep 1, 2013
    3
Hello! I'm flying on Star Alliance carrier All Nippon into ORD at 8am into Terminal 5. Flying out on Air Canada (also Star Alliance) out of Terminal 2, approx 3 hours later. Flying first and carry both Nexus/TN visa and Canadian passport. Wondering, does my luggage get checked to destination on Star Alliance or will I have to pick-up and re-check in T2? Thanks!

All international arrivals at ORD need to go through passport check, pick up bags & go through customs clearance; if continuing journey, they need to re-check-in their bags where indicated (whereupon your bags will be transferred to T2). Thereafter, proceed up one level to the Airport Transit System (ATS) station and take the ATS train, which runs every few minutes, to your connecting terminal, where you need to go through security check before proceeding to your connecting gate.

You can drop your bags in T5 after clearing customs.

thank you so much for clarifying!

Arriving UA from SFO at 4 p.m. with 55-minute connection time to LH to MUC. Assuming bags checked through, enough time (passport control, security checkpoint, etc.)?

I am arriving from Panama with Delta and connecting in Atlanta to Amsterdam. I only have 1 hour and 30 minutes. Is this enough time to make the connection? Thanks for your help

You will really have to hope your first flight is on-time and you will have to hurry. You will clear US immigration, claim your baggage, go through customs, re-check your baggage with Delta, and then go back through security all in that time.

Thanks for your reply. In case my first flight is on time....will the 1 hour and 30 minutes be enough to do all those processes you mention? Or should i consider change the ticket?

I would try what you have - it looks like the Panama City-Atlanta flight gets in around 1 PM and if that's the case then you're on the ATL-AMS flight that leaves a little after 3 PM? If so, then if you do miss your connection you can just be rebooked on one of the 3 later flights to Amsterdam.

Can you tell me how easy is it to get from Terminal 1 to Terminal 3 and what is involved

  • Enough transfer time?
    Aug 26, 2013

I am flying in from Amsterdam to Detroit EM and have a connecting flight to Buffalo, NY. From landing till take off I only have 90 mins. Do you think this will be enough for immigration, picking up the luggage and dropping them off again, plus check in? Are there fast lines? Is there a recommended way to take between terminals maybe? Thanks in advance!

90 mins is not enough time for transfer: DTW has 2 terminals - the McNamara Terminal serves Delta & its SkyTeam partners, as well as Air France & KLM, while the North Terminal serves non-SkyTeam members. Emirates (not listed at DFW) does not belong to any airline Alliance - meaning on arrival, after customs clearance, you may have to take your bag to the connecting terminal - check with Emirates if they transfer your bags. A detailed description of each terminal, Concourse & gates and how to transfer can be found at www.ifly.com/dtw - click on 'Terminal Maps' under QUICK LINKS.

Ignore what moaug just said - you will not have to transfer Terminals and you are not flying Emirates so I don't know why he mentioned that. All your flights will be in the McNamara terminal as it appears they are all on Delta as Delta is the only airline that flies to Amsterdam and Buffalo from Detroit. There are no fast lanes, but you should have enough time.

90 mins transfer may barely be enough time for transfer: DTW has 2 terminals - the McNamara Terminal serves Delta & its SkyTeam partners, as well as Air France & KLM, while the North Terminal serves non-SkyTeam members. Both terminals are at different locations and you may need to take the shuttle bus running every 10 mins and taking 7 mins.

Thanks for the comments. I fly KLM (operated by Delta). Originally I had 4 hours to transfer but there was a flight change and now I am afraid I will not make it in due time. As far as I understood all actions should take place in the McNamara terminal, this is why I am hoping....

Again, please ignore Moaug - I don't know why he thinks you are flying Emirates. Yes, all your flights will be in the McNamara terminal. If Delta changed your schedule and you're uncomfortable with it, you can ask to perhaps be put on an earlier flight from Amsterdam to Detroit or a later flight from Detroit to Buffalo for no change fee if possible. Just call them.

I did. The lady told me that according to their record the transfer time should be feasible! I hope she is right! ;)

  • Terminal 5 to US Airways what terminal is 2 hr enough time??
    Aug 26, 2013

I'll be doming to Terminal 5 and will do the 1 stop program - do I still need to check in with the kisok??? Also, what Terminal is US Airways - I have 2 hours to do this - - Thank You!!!

What airline are you flying into Terminal 5? Where are you flying from ORD on US Airways? Were both of your tickets bought on one reservation?

I'll flying in with Austrain Airlines from Vienna - from US Airways to Sacramento with a stop in Phoenix - - tickets were not bought on one reservation - - I hope 2 hours is enough time Thank You

You'll have to hurry. Immigration could take close to an hour and you'll have to have your bags to Terminal 2 30 minutes prior to departure to check your bags with US Airways. To get from Terminal 5 to Terminal 2 you take the ATS train, which runs outside security. However, it wouldn't hurt to ask Austrian in Vienna if they can check your bags through to Sacramento, they might, and in that case you would be able to drop your bags off after customs in Terminal 5.

I'm thinking of doing a carry-on and doing the one stop program - this way I would have way more time - - if I do that will I still need to do the kisok?? thank you

Which Kiosk? If you don't have US Airways boarding passes you will still have to get them at a Kiosk in Terminal 2, however that won't take much time.

The Kiosk in customs is what I meant - I do have a reservation with United at Terminal 1 - my back up plan if I don't make it in 2 hours will be with US Airways to Sacramento with carry-on only - I can't take the chance of making the flight with United so that is why I have this back up plan - so I'll get boarding pass's at Terminal 5 and get boarding pass at Terminal 2 if that is what I end up doing - - Thank You for your help!!

Have a US Air Flt. arriving at 6:38am in Term. 4 and need to make connecting Hawaiian flt. that leaves at 8 am. in Term. 3. What's the best way to get from 4 to 3 in time? Thanks

You have to take a shuttle bus. If you have bags to transfer yourself you'll really have to hurry. With carry ons only or if US Airways will transfer your bags, you'll be OK if your flight is on-time. Check-in online for your Hawaiian flight before you leave so that you don't miss the check-in cutoff.
