  • Transferring from United Express Flight to BA Flight
    Nov 17, 2013
    2
We have made reservations on a United Express Flight from Columbus, Ohio to IAD which arrrives at 8:17 P.M. and, on a separate reservation need to connect with a BA Flight to Heathrow that leaves at 10:30 P.M. Will we have to collect our bags and recheck them? Will we have enough time to do so?

Yes, you will have to claim your bags and re-check them. If your United Express if your first flight is on-time you will barely have enough time.

Thank you. We switched to an earlier flight.

I WILL ARRIVE ON UNITED EXPRESS TODAY INTO TERMINAL 2 I HAVE DEPART UNITED EXPRESS VIA TERMINAL 1. IS THERE A MAP BETWEEN THE TWO??

They are directly connected beyond security. Just follow the signs to Terminal 1 (A and B gates). Most gates are less than 15 minutes apart.

Hi, I will be flying to Chicago via Philadelphia from Israel in a week from now. I wiill have a layover of about 2 hours. I will arrive in Philadelphia at gate A and depart for Chicago at gate C. How do I get to terminal C? When am I soppose to go throw customs and immigration? and do I need to go throw security again? Do you think it's anough time between the flights? Thanks a lot for your help.

You will go through immigration in Philadelphia. Yes, you will go through security again after you re-check your bags with US Airways. You should have enough time but you won't have any time to waste. Terminals A and C are connected by a moving walkway.

I am flying from Ontario, CA to Cancun with a connection in IAH both ways. When do I go thru customs and is it easier if I only have carry on and no checked bag? I have about a 90 min layover both ways.

On the way to Cancun you will go through Mexican Immigration in Cancun. On that trip in Houston you will just have to go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. On the return trip in Houston you will go through immigration, claim your checked baggage if you have any, then go through customs, then re-check your bag, then go through security and to your departure gate. So yes, on your return trip you will save a little time if you don't check a bag.

How much time is need to go thru customs in IAH from Mexico? With and without checked bags?

Maybe half an hour with bags and a few minutes quicker without. The biggest wait you'll encounter is usually at immigration (the first thing you come to).

  • United from Houston, transferring to JRO

Are there particular gates that the UAL flights from the US arrive and the KLM to JRO depart? Would I have to claim and recheck luggage? Mahalo...

Your United flight will arrive in Pier E or G and your KLM flight will depart from D, E, or F. If your tickets were bought on one reservation your bags should be checked through to JRO and you won't have to do collect them in Amsterdam.

    I'd budget 90 minutes.

How long does it take to get from C15 to B5 in Terminal 1

5-10 minutes depending on how fast you walk. They are connected by an underground tunnel with moving walkways.

  • time needed getting through customs to make connectign flight

I will be arriving into LAX, from Tahiti, on Qantas. It would be on a Thursday at 11:00 am. I would like to take a Virgin America flight to Portland,OR that departs at 1:30 pm. They would both be booked on the same ticket. Does this really allow enough time to make the connecting flight?

Qantas does not fly from Tahiti to LAX. Your flight is probably on Air Tahiti Nui. Air Tahiti Nui and Virgin America do not appear to have an interline agreement, so you would have to move the bags yourself to T3 from the TBIT. That would be a very difficult connection to make. Also, Virgin America no longer flies nonstop from LAX to Portland, so I don't know what flight you're looking at.

Yes, there is a stopover in San Fran then on to Portland. I thought it was a little strange this was being offered up as one ticket. The connection seemed rather close. Thanks for the information.

For reference, I flew in on the Air Tahiti Nui flight that arrives at 10:25 AM last month and flew out of LAX from Terminal 7 at 1:14 PM and had priority security and maybe only had 45 minutes to spare. So your proposed itinerary doable, but it's cutting it close.

  • 48 minute layover

Flying Vancouver,Canada to Mexico and have 48 minutes to change planes in Phoenix. Both flights are US Airways. Enough time?

Yes, it should be. You will pre-clear US Immigration in Vancouver so all you will have to do in Phoenix is go from gate to gate.

I will travel on a Delta flight from RIC to GEG with a layover of 1h5min in MSP. I´d like to know if there will be enough time to get to my connecting flight? Thanks

Yes, all your flights will be in the same terminal and the connection shouldn't take more than 15-20 minutes.

  • Is 3hrs 50 min sufficient International to Domestic

Hi. We arrive at TBIT at 1100 and I wish to book a direct flight to IAD. The ideal would be an AA flight departing at 1450. It seems on the face of it sufficient time to connect, but at LAX? I can book a UA flight at 1704 if absolutely necessary. Thanks

Yes, that should be plenty of time. The TBIT and AA's terminal are right next to each other so it's a very easy walk. I arrived in the TBIT at about 9 AM last month and I was out of customs by 9:45

I am looking at a trip with a flight from Chicago to IAH, then with a 43-minute connection time from IAH to a flight to Villahermosa, Mexico. I will have a checked suitcase that will have to be transferred between planes. Will the 43 minutes be enough time? (This set of flights is being offered on the United Airlines website.)

Yes, if your first flight is on-time that is enough time. However, as United only has one flight a day to Villahermosa you will be stuck in Houston overnight if there is a delay and you miss your connection. Since the Villahermosa flight doesn't leave until late afternoon, I would try for an earlier flight into Houston to give yourself more leeway. You will likely arrive in Terminal C and depart from Terminal B which are connected via the TerminaLink train inside security.

Thanks for the info. I note that you preface your comment with "if your first flight is on-time." That caveat is found in many other responses to similar questions, and I quite understand it. But my big, and probably unanswerable, question is, What are the odds??

Since so many passengers are connecting, United does give preference to their Chicago-Houston flights and the weather in Houston is generally good and it isn't congested. Most United Chicago-Houston flights are on-time about 80% of the time.
