  • Transiting at JFK from Terminal 4 to Terminal 2 on separate carriers
    Jun 19, 2013
    2
I'm arriving in JFK via an international flight on Emirates at 825am at Terminal 4. I have to catch a domestic flight on Delta at 11am at Terminal 2. I am going to check in my bags with Emirates. Will I be able to take the Delta shuttle bus from Terminal 4 to Terminal 2? And how will I to collect my check-in baggage from Emirates?

As an international arrival at JFK, you need to go through passport check, pick up your bags, go through customs clearance and re-check-in your bags - however, if Emirates does not transfer bags to your Delta connection (check with Emirates), you would need to take your bag along to Terminal 2 and check it in there. To get from T4 to T2 - take the 'Airplane Terminals Train' which runs every 8 mins or so, to your next stop.

Actually, since your second flight is with Delta, you can just take your bags upstairs to the Delta check in counter in T4, then if your gate is in T2, just take Delta's post-security shuttle from T4 to T2.

  • Transiting SIA incoming from Frankfurt to AA outgoing to Montreal

My daughter will be coming in from Singapore via Frankfurt on Singapore Air at 1105 at terminal 4 then going out on American Airlines to Montreal at 1455 at terminal 8. Will she need to pass through Immigrations, collect bags and do a security check on the way in, then check-in and repeat to leave? What is the least stressful way to do this for a 15-year old who has never travelled internationally? Thanks.

Well, she does have enough time. First she'll go through immigration in T4. Were her tickets booked on one ticket or two? If two then she should take her bags with her on the AIrTrain/Airline Terminals Train from T4 to T8 and check in with American. Note that she'll need some money to check the bag on AA if she does this. She'll then go through security and to her gate in T8. She'll hen go through Canadian immigration when she gets to Montreal.

Thanks ZAP. She is booked all on one ticket. So does that mean she will not need to collect her bags and they will be automatically transited through to Montreal for her?

No, any time you enter the US from abroad (from an airport without preclearance) you have to claim your baggage to clear customs. It just means she will likely be able to use the re-check counter in T4.

  • Domestic flight to international with checked luggage

We will be flying into the N satellite terminal on AS. We want to retrieve our luggage at the Baggage Claim area. We do not want it transferred by the airline due to a past bad experience. We have separately purchased tickets for each flight. From the Baggage Claim area, how do we get to the S satellite terminal to check our luggage and take an international (BA) flight to London. We will have a 6 hr layover. Thanks for any assistance.

All the baggage claim and ticketing areas are connected. So you can easily just claim your baggage from your AS flight and walk to the BA check-in counter to check it. Note that due to your long layover the BA counter may not be open yet.

Wouldn't there be quite a distance to walk between the two terminals? If so, is it possible to take the airport transit train?

There is only one terminal where check-in and baggage claim is done. The S terminal is just gates.

Nice wine list.... But using a silver plastic fork to cut a Filet is a big no no! If you are going to have Opus One on the wine list, get some proper cutlery. Also, you recommend your steak mid-rare, so make sure your cooks don't mistake that for mid-well. The two stars are for my server, Katy was easy going and knowledgable.

  • Term 5 to Term 3

Arriving from Spain on friday 21st. AA at 14:10 and departing to SFO 16:30. is that gap enough to clear customs and change terms (from 5 to 3)? I've been told a buggage drop facility is within term 5 after customs clearance. Is that true?

It will be close but you should be OK. If you miss your connection American will have a later flight to SFO you can be rebooked on. Yes, the baggage drop is inside Terminal 5 right after you exit customs.

  • connect time 52 minutes enough ?
    Jun 18, 2013

Is connecting time of 52 min enough on monday between: arriving flight UA 843 from San Diego - departing flight UA 972 to Brussels . I don't know which terminals we arrive/depart from. I suppose lugage will automatically be transfered. We are 4 trvalling (incl 2 children 13 & 9y)

forgot to give the timetable: 17h08 : arriving flight UA 843 from San Diego 18h00 :departing flight UA 972 to Brussels

Both of your flights will be in Terminal 1, either concourse B or C. The two concourses are connected by a short tunnel with moving walkways. It shouldn't take more than 15 minutes to get between your gates, even with the kids.

  • Domestic to Gate E18

My daughter is arriving from Chicago (18h30) heading to Johannesburg (19h30). how does she get to Gate E18 inless than 15 minutes?

Well, from the times you posted, she has 60 minutes, not 15. She can take the PlaneTrain from the concourse she will arrive in (likely A, B or C, but possibly T or D) to concourse E. It can be done in less than 20 minutes.

Hi, I'm flying Alitalia ORD to SVO with a stop at FCO. Arriving to FCO at 8:00am and departing for SVO at 10:40am. I believe I'll be arriving in terminal 3 and departing from terminal 3. I'll have to go through passport control, correct? Do I need to go through immigration too? Thank you!

Arriving from Aukland, NZ 10:30 am on Air New Zealand. Wanting to book US Airways to Phoenix @ 12:45. Will I have enough time coming in International to Terminal 1 with customs?

You can probably make that connection as you will arrive in Terminal 2, not the TBIT (unless you're looking at booking a ticket in 2014), and US departs from Terminal 1.

Arriving on USair from Philadelphia connecting on AA to Lima,Peru-will I need to go thru security on arrival in Miami?

Yes, as your US Airways flight will arrive in J and your American flight will depart from D or E on the opposite side of the airport.

  • Arrive Gate G7

I arrive at gate G7 at 5:10pm and Depart at 6:05pm at gate K15. Will I have time to make my connection? Do I have to go through security again?

Yes, that should be enough time if your first flight is on-time. No you won't have to go through security again.

You arrive at Terminal 3, at its Concourse G; exit the concourse and walk over to Concourse K (same terminal) which has gates K1-K20. No need for security check.

  • Teenagers Flying Alone

My daughter and her friend are flying solo for the first time tomorrow. Their flight arrives at ATL gate C7 and connects at D11. What's the simplest way to advise them to travel between gates that can be done in the 45 minute window they have between flights? Thank you, A worried mom

They just take the Plane Train 1 stop from C to D. It's very simple and can be done in that time. Their gates may change before tomorrow, so they should be prepared for that, but the process is still the same, take the plane train between concourses.

My fear is that they will find that confusing or miss their stop. Would it be possible for them to just walk between concourses?

There's a walkway through the same tunnel that the train goes through. However, I think you really underestimate your daughter. It's a very simple system.

  • flight connection at terminal 3

Hi, I'm flying with Alitalia indirect flight, (AZ 201 and AZ 782) from London Heathrow to Tokyo with a connection at FCO Rome Fiumicino. The connection time will be 1h15mins and it's within Terminal 3. I'd like to know if there will be enough time for the transition? I'm a UK citizen so I guess I'll have to pass the passport control (Non-schegen) and additional security checks? Will Alitalia book me onto next flight to Tokyo if I missed it. Thanks in advance! Mike

Yes, you should have enough time. If you miss your connection AZ will book you on the next flight, but that would probably be the next day.
