Strange question, but my boyfriend is flying in from LHR to DTW on the same day I'm scheduled to leave from DTW, heading for BOS (all Delta flights). When he arrives in Detroit, will he be directed right into US Customs and then to baggage claim? Or is there a chance that he could be let off the plane in McNamara terminal, where we could see each other before I leave?

Yes, he will be directed directly to customs. Depending on when your flight departs you could wait for him at the exit of customs.

These posts have been really helpful. I'm travelling from Key West to London Heathrow with a transfer in Atlanta. Terminal S to terminal I according to the itinerary - Delta/Virgin. Will 40 minutes be enough and will luggage transfer automatically? Seems a bit tight to me!

Yes, luggage will transfer automatically. All you have to do is take the plane train from your arrival concourse to concourse E or F where you will depart. It is tight but it is enough time if your first flight is on-time.

I am arriving in Boston from Istanbul at 5:35pm and I need to buy a ticket to Seattle from Boston. There is an Alaska Airlines flight leaving Boston that night at 6:40pm. I am not checking any bags, and am wondering if I have time to make that connection? Seems pretty tight, but I have not traveled through BOS before and am not sure of the layout. Thank you for any assistance!

No, that's not enough time, even without checked bags. The earliest you could be out of customs is like 6 PM, you would still have to go all the way across the airport and get through security.

Thanks so much. Bought a flight the next morning. Have a great weekend!!!

  • What is time requirement to make connecting flight from Canada to US

I am a US citizen flying from Calgary,AB through Seattle to San Antonio, TX, changing airlines from Delta to Southwest in SEA. I need to claim baggage and clear customs I assume, change concourse and go through security again, then check in to new flight. Will 1 hr. 30 min. be long enough between flight times?

You will pre-clear US Customs in Calgary. When you arrive you will go to the main terminal, claim your bags and take them to Southwest. 1 hr 30 mins is BARELY enough time to do that. I would want more.

We are travelling from MSP to SJU connecting at MIA 1 hr 59mins layover. We have to change Airlines, Delta to AA, do we have to claim and check bags again? And if we do Will that be enough time?

Did you buy your tickets separately or together. If separately you will have to claim them and you will barely have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

They aré together! We bought them online and the connection was like that.

Will they go directly to the final destination if it was bought together?

Yes, in that case they should go to your final destination

we arrive air Tahiti at 10 15 am and depart Southwest 12.05 is that enough time to clear customs and recheck bags

Barely. You will have to hope lines at immigration are short and absolutely sprint to Terminal 1 to get there on time with your bags.

  • SFO to LAX land at 21:15. Connecting flight to MELB,AUS at 22:15

The flight from SFO lands at terminal 7 with United and our connecting flight to Melbourne leaves from terminal 7 also. I am just inquiring as to whether or not this will be enough layover time to catch our flight. Do we have to go through customs at LAX?

That should be plenty of time. You do not go through US Customs when leaving the US. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

I'm flying from DTW to HNL via SEA in March with a 33min connection in SEA. I know it will likely be close (even though it was recommended by delta diamond desk), but is it doable?

Yes, it is doable if the first flight is on-time.

is 50 mins enough time to get from terminal B to terminal E

Yes, it is if your first flight is on-time. The TerminaLink train connects all terminals inside security.

  • Connecting from YYZ to IAD to NRT

I am arriving to IAD from Toronto on United at 11:49 and my next flight to Tokyo is at 12:20. Will that be enough time to connect?

That is barely enough time. You will go through US Immigration and Customs in Toronto so all you have to do in IAD is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate, but 31 minutes leaves very little time to spare in case of delays.

Hello, I am considering booking a flight with American Airlines in April. The return flight from St. Croix to Detroit has a connection in Miami with a 42 minute layover. Will that be enough time to make my connection? I know American uses Concourse D and E of the. North Terminal. If I land in one terminal and leave in the other will I have enough time to make it? Assuming the flight coming in is on time ! 😊 Thanks!

All AA gates in Miami are connected inside security. Yes, that is enough time if your first flight is on-time.

    Ok! Thanks so much!

  • Domestic connection to an international flight

Other posts have covered our outbound flight to US. But our return flight from Orlando to UK is causing me some concern. I'm flying with my wife and a 4 nad 6 year old. Orlando to Newark with a 1hr 42min layover then an international flight to Brussels. The internal flight is United and the intl one is Brussels airlines operated by United. Tickets were bought as one through Expedia. Does anyone know the baggage process at Newark. Can we check them straight through from Orlando? And do we have enough time to transfer. (Sorry for the long post.) Help much appreciated.

On the way to Brussels you don't have to do anything with your baggage in Newark. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate which will both be in Terminal C.

    Thanks for your help Zap.

  • Enough Time for "Layover"?
    Jan 13, 2015
    1
I want to book a flight from Halifax, Nova Scotia through Philadelphia to Phoenix on US Airways. If says there is a 38 minute "layover". Is that enough time, if I travel with no checked luggage?

Yes, that should be enough time if your first flight is on-time. If you arrive in Terminal F it is connected to the other terminals inside security by a shuttle bus.
