  • Connecting to London LHR

I am flying to London LHR, departing from Charleston WV on United with a plane transfer on to Lufthansa through Washington IAD. I have 55 mins to connect between carriers. The ticket was purchased as one trip. Will I need to go through customs in Washington before connection? will there be enough time? Will I need to collect my luggage from the United flight and re-check it into Lufthansa after customs clearance? Can I walk between terminals, or will I need to catch the bus?

Only international arrivals need to go through customs. You will arrive at Midfield Concourse C and need to get to Concourse B - look for the Aerotrain sign, which will take you to the B gates B35--B79. You have enough time.

Actually, you will likely arrive in Concourse A which is directly connected to Concourse B. As sunov mentioned, you do not go through US CUstoms when leaving the United States.

Thanks for feedback. That all helps. I assume then that I will not need to collect my luggage, and United will transfer the bags between the two carriers since it is an alliance partnership?

    Yes, that is correct.

  • Connecting flight from NY to SIN

Hi, I will be arriving on JKF via delta 2444 on 8/11 sat 555pm. My next connecting flight is SQ 25 which departs at 825pm. Both are in T4. Will i have enough time to make it? What are the procedures involved and where should I go once I get out of DL 2444 ? Thanks !

If you arrive from an international flight, you need to go through passport control, pick up your bags and go through customs clearance. If you purchased your 2 flights on one ticket, you may proceed to your connecting gate, but need to go through security check first. If you did not purchase your flights on one ticket, you need to re-check-in your bags at the Singapore counter after customs clearance, as Delta & Singapore airlines belong to different Alliances. The concourse level of T4 is divided into gates A3 & A5 to the left, and gates B20-B41 to the right.

Ignore sunov's post. It is completely incorrect. I see that DL2444 is from Orlando. DL2444 usually arrive in Terminal 2. You will exit security and claim your bag, then take the AirTrain one stop to Terminal 4 and check your bags at the Singapore Airlines check-in counter. You should have plenty of time.

Thanks Zap! I heard that you need to walk outside of terminal 2 to reach the airtrain station, is that true? Is there a bridge or link way or something?

It's a bridge but it's not heated and is somewhat exposed to the elements.

Hello. I fly from Portland to Atlanta by Delta. I fly from Atlanta to Amsterdam by KLM. The layover is 1 hour 17 minutes. Is there enough time for everything? Thank you!

Your transfer time is sufficient. The underground 'Plane Train' stops at the center of each Concourse. Your Delta arrival can be at either Concourse T, A, B, C or D; your KLM flight is out of the 'Maynard Jackson Terminal' or IT / TI) with Concourses E & F - your ticket may quote IT-E, TI-E, or IT-F, TI-F. On arrival, just follow signs to the Plain Train.

  • Do ATL intl-to-intl connections have to clear customs?
    Nov 1, 2014

Hello, my wife and depart Paris, and arrive ATL at 14:55, and then connect to Quito, Ecuador at 17:30. I've heard that customs and security lines can be very long in ATL. However, Delta has told me that international-to-international connections do not have to clear US customs and security, but can move directly to their connecting US-outgoing flight in terminal E or F? Is this infor correct?

Whoever at Delta who told you that is wrong. You have to go through US Immigration and Customs upon arrival at ATL.

we are hoping to come in at 6 pm on JetBlue from Sint Martin and catch a flight at 8 pm to albuquerque NM. Is that enough time to clear customs and get through security?

It should be enough time. You will arrive in T4 and depart from T5, so you will have to take the AirTrain to T5 after you clear customs.

  • Is it possible? 60 mins to connection Lufthansa flights
    Nov 1, 2014

Arrival in Frankfurt (from London) on Flight# 917. 60mins to connect to flight #510 to Buenos Aires, Argentina. I'm reading mixed messages on whether there is fast lane security, priority checked in baggage transfer or if I'll make it. Considering paying for a new flight just to increase connection time. Grateful for your advice please?

...forgot to add both flights are terminal 1

I fly Lufthansa and arrive in Frankfurt Terminal 1 from Bengaluru at 8:50am. And I have to catch a flight on Austrian Airlines from Terminal 1 at 10:50am to Sarajevo. Do I have enough time to go through Passport Control, exit Arrival area and check into the Depature Terminal ?

  • Oz flight QANTAS to Virgin America Connection Time

Hi, I am arriving on a QANTAS flight into Tom Bradley at 6.30am and I was hoping to book a flight with Virgin America to Cancun which would be leaving from terminal 3 at 10.45am, would there be enough time to make it through customs etc. and make the flight?

Oh I forgot to mention that I would be arriving on 30th December, thinking that it might be busy cause of the Christmas/NY period.

Yes, that should be enough time. You will be out of customs by 7:15 or so, 7:30 at the latest. It's about a 5 minute walk to T3, so you'll be at T3 by 7:35 at the latest, which is still over 3 hours before your flight.

I am scheduled to arrive at 7.35pm and will need to get by bags and check them back in for my turkish airlines flight scheduled for 9.50pm. Is this enough time?

Yes, that should be enough time. However, if your tickets were bought together and your flight on United is domestic then you won't have to do anything with your bags.

  • Connection time Delta domestic to Air France
    Nov 1, 2014

Daughter is heading for study abroad, LAX to Florence on Delta & Air France. Current itinerary has outbound 90 minute connection time at JFK from Delta domestic terminal 4 to Air France terminal 1 and then 1 hr 40 mins at CDG to Florence. Return has her with 2 hrs at JFK to clear customs and connect to LAX, changing from terminal 1 to 4. Will this be enough time on both sides? Delta tells me yes but I'm a worried mother.

Yes, that should be enough time. All she has to do in JFK on the way to France is to take the Airtrain from T4 to T1 and go through security. On the return she will have to go through US Immigration, claim her bags, go through US Customs, then re-check her bags then take the Airtrain to T4 and go through security. However, 2 hours should be enough time.

  • International Connection in DTW with Delta-Air France
    Oct 31, 2014

I will have my flight from CLT to DTW (Delta), and I will connect to Air France From DTW to CDG(Paris), to do so, I will have 40min, is that enough? I also wondering if I need to check out my baggage there or not? I mean by not, the carrier would take care of my luggage. Thank you

You won't have to do anything with your baggage in Detroit. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate, which will both be in the McNamara Terminal.

  • Security at JFK for international transfer - duty free
    Oct 31, 2014

Hi I am flying in JFK from Jamaica tomorrow afternoon with Delta to then transfer onto a London bound flight with Delta again. Could someone tell me the rules regarding duty free. I wish to take two bottles of rum with me from Jamaica but unsure whether this will cause issues in JFK when passing through security to catch my London flight. Thanks.

You will claim your baggage to go through US Customs, then, before you re-check your baggage you need to put the Rum in your checked bags. If you are not checking bags you won't be able to bring the Rum back with you.
