  • AA CONNECTING FLIGHTS TERMINAL 8

hello, my sister will be travelling from Madrid to Toronto in September via AA - on one ticket and one transfer at JFK. Both flights are with AA. The travel agent told her she does not have to worry about the luggage upon arrivel to JFK. That her luggage is checked in all the way to Toronto airport. Upon reading some of the postings, I am not sure on this. Could you please let me know if her luggage will be indeed checked from Madrid to Toronto or if she will have to claim it upon arrival at JFK and then re-check with AA? she will have about 2 hrs. in between flights. Is this enough?

The travel agent is incorrect. Any time you enter the US you have to claim your baggage in immigration, clear customs, and then re-check it. She should have enough time.

Thank you. What about on her return from toronto to madrid. Ticket is also with AA but the operating carriers are american eagle arriving at terminal 8 at jfk and then iberia from jfk to mad from terminal 7. Will she clearing customs in toronto? Does she have to claim the luggage again upon arrival at jfk, clear customs again, and then transfer to term. 7 and go thorugh security? Or would the luggage be checked in all the way from toronto to madrid? She will have about 110 mins. For the transfer.... Thank you!

She will clear US customs in Toronto. All she will have to do in JFK is take the Airtrain from T8 to T7, her baggage will be transfered automatically.

I would like to meet my son during his 4 hour transit time at JFK on route to Europe from California. I am not a passenger. Is this possible?

Yes, he will have to exit security after clearing customs. You can meet him there.

Hi I am arriving with united in newark and connecting with united to go to St. John's. will I have to go through customs and get my luggage? Also, what thermal will I arrive and then depart from?

Yes, you will have to go through US immigration and claim your luggage. You will likely arrive and depart in Terminal C, but if you arrive in B, you can take the AirTrain between terminals, since you will already be outside security.

Thanks for replying. If I land in B do I take my luggage to C or is there a drop off point in B? Where would I drop it off in C?

You can drop it right after you exit customs in B.

I'm arriving 7/17 on KLM KL 6162 operated by Delta Airlines as DL232, departing Alaska Air AS0095. I must recheck my luggage and go through TSA security screening prior to proceeding to my connecting flight. Can you tell me the gate or terminal locations and how to move from one to the other? And how long will it take? I have 1 hour 35 min layover.

Your Delta flight will arrive in the S Satellite and your Alaska flight will leave from the C or D concourse or the N Satellite. You will take the underground train from the S Satellite to the main terminal where you will then go to your Alaska gate. If your Alaska gate is in N terminal then you need to take a separate underground train there. Follow the signs. It could take anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes depending on the gates.

I arrived 06:50 h in JFK for American Airlines from Brazil with connection to Boston at 08:50 in Terminal 8. Can I retrieve my Luggage?

Yes, you will have to retrieve your luggage after immigration and re-check it with American after clearing customs.

  • 1 hour to transfer?

Arriving from US via TAP connecting to LH. Is one hour enough time to transfer?

TAP does not have any flights from Frankfurt to the US. That flight is likely on Lufthansa as well.

  • Connecting via FRA and changing airlines

US citizen (and paranoid about missing connections traveler) arriving FRA on an overnight US Air flight from Charlotte about 11:00 AM needing to connect to a Lufthansa flight to Hamburg at about 1:00 PM. Understand Lufthansa doesn't issue boarding passes for EU flights until the day of travel. Does this mean I'll need to claim a bag, clear customs, check in with Lufthansa (rechecking a bag), clear security, and still manage to find my gate all within 3 hours? If so, any brillent ideas for navigating this apparently "challenging" airport without resorting to anxiety medication would be greatly appreciated.

You have plenty of time & Frankfurt Airport is well-marked and easy to navigate. 1. US Air & Lufthansa are both members of the Star Alliance - your bags will be automatically transferred to your departing flight. 2. On arrival, if you do not yet have a boarding card for your connecting flight, you can obtain one at the gate or at the Transfer Desk in the B Concourse of Terminal 1. 3. While US Airways will most likely use the C gates of Terminal 1, U.S. Arrivals are being processed at Area A (just follow the signs) where they go through passport control only ; (US departures use the Z gates upstairs of Satellite Concourse A). Lufthansa uses A & B gates. If you need to transfer inside Terminal 1 between B gates (T1B) and A (T1A), you can use transfer tunnel outside security, or the SkyLine train inside security, which leaves every 2-3 mins.

  • International connection

I'm thinking about buying a ticket where I'd be connecting in Atlanta, coming from St. Louis on Delta and then flying KLM to Amsterdam with a one hour layover. Is one hour a long enough layover to get to the international terminal? Thanks very much.

Yes, that should be long enough if your first flight is on-time. However, if there's another STL-ATL flight a little earlier, I'd pick that one instead.

  • Connecting through DFW

I am flying to Palm Springs from Toronto, Canada via DFW, The connection time is only 1hr 5min. I go through customs in Toronto but do I have to pass through security or recheck my bag in DFW?

No, your arrival in DFW will just be like a domestic flight, all you will have to do is change gates. If you need to change terminals take the SkyLink train, which runs inside security.

My son will arrive on AirBerlin 7248 at 3:40 pm on 12 July and needs to continue to Chicago on AA at 5:05 pm, so there is only 85 min time. Will that be enough since both flights are in terminal 8? Does he need to collect his luggage to pass through customs even it is checked through? Thanks!

It will probably be enough time but he'll have to hurry. Yes, he will have to collect is baggage to pass through customs, then re-check it with American after exiting.

Thank you for your quick response. Who could assist him to make it on time, would there be airport personnel to meet him and walk him through to the next flight?

No, if your son is old enough to not be an unaccompanied minor and is not disabled he shouldn't have any trouble.

I'm flying Heathrow-JFK-San Francisco next week. I arrive in JFK at 4:00pm and fly out at 5:30pm, both flights are with Delta in Terminal 4. Will I have enough time to make my connection, and do I need to collect my luggage and re-check it on?

You should be able to make transfer easily within that time. However, do make sure on arrival (check overhead screens) that your connecting flight is indeed at T4 and not in T2, as most of Delta's domestic flights depart from T2 (requiring a shuttle and adding another 15 mins to your transfer time) T4 has on its Concourse level, Concourse A, gates A2-A7, and Concourse B, gates B20-B38

Thanks, I checked earlier and SFO flights leave from T4.

If your first flight is on-time you will be OK if you hurry. If it's late, you'll be stuck in Phoenix.

I am coming from Denver to IAH on United Express UA1742 and leaving on UA5914. I only have 30 minutes between flights - will I have enough time? Help..!

You will have to hope your first flight is on-time and hurry. You will likely have to take the TerminaLink train from Terminal C to Terminal B. There are at least several later flights to Nashville if you miss your connection to 5914.
