  • Enough connection time?
    Jan 3, 2015
Hi. I'm flying into SFO on United 1292, scheduled to arrive at 10:04am. My next flight is United 893 scheduled to leave at 11:00am. Is that enough time to make the international connection?

If your first flight is domestic then that is enough time. There is a walkway between Terminal 3 where you will arrive and concourse G of the international terminal where you will depart inside security.

  • Transit - KLM & Iceland Air ?
    Jan 10, 2015
I'm flying in via KLM from Africa and aim to take Icelandair to Canada the next day. I have small kids and thus prefer to stay at a hotel in Transit zone (like Mercure) and rest for a day. I have a visa for my destination (Canada) and so ordinarily wont require a transit visa.... Would I be able to pick our baggage, lodge and check in to next flight, all within the transit zone of the airport?

You can't pickup your baggage. So pack some clothes for your overnight in your carry on.

Ok. But would KLM transfer my baggage to Icelandair considering that they are totally different flights / tickets ?

You should have mentioned you purchased two separate tickets. You will have to exit the transit zone to get your baggage and therefore will need a transit visa. Buying separate tickets as you did means you need a transit visa.

  • D gates to WN gates
    Jan 3, 2015
I'll be departing LAS tomorrow evening, and I just found out a relative has a layover (3 to 4 hours) tomorrow late afternoon. I'm on DL, so I'll be out of the D gates, but they'll be on WN, probably C gates. Is there any sort of connection between the B/C gates and D? Or is the only way to leave security, walk down the hallway to the D gates, and clear security again? I don't think there is, but wasn't sure. I only fly DL in/out of LAS, so I've never been to the other gates. I was planning on getting to the airport an hour or two earlier than usual so we can catch up over dinner, and trying to figure out the most convenient way. I don't want her to have to leave security and then have to reclear it again. However, I have PreCheck. Can I go through the Pre line for the B/C gates, even though my DL flight will leave from D? That way I can get through quick, meet up for some food, and then clear security again easily at D gates. Thanks in advance

  • International -> Domestic Connection time
    Jan 3, 2015
Hello, I'm arriving to JFK on a Korea Air flight this Thursday, scheduled to land at 10AM. I then need to make a connection to Boston Logan, and am wondering how much time it is safe to have between the arrival of the international flight and the departure of the domestic flight to Boston. I have to go through immigration as alien, and then pick up my bags. I'm planning to reserve the domestic flight with American Airlines, which has departures in terminal 8. Would 2:40 hours be enough, or should I get more time in between?

2 hr 40 minutes is sort of pushing what's possible. There are lots of flights from JFK to Boston. Choose one a little later.

  • 2.5 hour United transfer from Toronto to Trinidad, baggage & terminal?
    Jan 7, 2015
Since our bags pre-cleared at Toronto airport customs & immigration, will we still need to reclaim & recheck baggage at Newark? Jan30, what terminal will UA 4528 from Toronto land at, & different terminal for UA1505 to Port of Spain? Is only 2hr 21min for the transfer rather risky? or since departure is 5min to midnight, will airport be less crowded? Thanks!

You will not have to do anything with your baggage in Newark. You will likely arrive in Terminal A and depart from Terminal C. United runs a shuttle bus inside security between the two terminals. You should have plenty of time.

Thanks! For sure no need to claim bags even when transferring to an international (vs domestic) flight? Trini-Canadian friends thought we'd still need to recheck bags, so time tight & better change flight tho penalty. Zap, you're familiar with such flights or work there? PS Should I still try calling United at Newark to confirm? (in Asia now) so really appreciate the help!

You need to claim bags on the Trinidad->US->canada leg, but not on the way to Trinidad since you will pre-clear US Customs in Toronto. There's no need to call United.

    Jan 2, 2015
Hello. I am making my travel plans early. I will arrive at FCO at 4:15am by bus from Pescara, Italy at either T1 ot T3. I would like to book a Lufthansa flight leaving aFCOt 6:40am to Frankfurt, and from there fly home to Orlando. I have a US passport. Is that sufficient time (presuming I am off the bus with my luggage by 4:30am to get through Passport Control, Security, check my suitcases, and board my flight? Thank you very much. Gina.

Yes, that should be plenty of time.

Thank you so much, and Happy New Year!

  • MKE to YYC
    Jan 2, 2015
I am flying from MKE to YYC and have a 1 hour layover in MSP. Both Delta flights. Is that enough time if I am traveling with checked bags? Do I go through customs in MSP or YYC?

You will go through Canadian customs when you get to Calgary. All you have to do in MSP is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time.

  • Can I get the connecting flight?
    Jan 2, 2015
Hello ZAP, it would be great to get some help here! I am flying from Sacramento to Düsseldorf. First, I will arrive at 10:00 in SF and the next flight going from SF to Chicago departs at 10:45. Do I need to go through security again, or put differently: is it enough time? Thanks a lot!

No, you do not have to go through security again. Just walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. Both will be in Terminal 3. If your first flight is on-time you'll be OK.

  • NRT -> SEA -> JFK
    Jan 2, 2015
I'm going on a vacation to Japan and my return flight stops in Seattle. The layover time is 74 minutes (1hr 14min). Is this going to be enough time for me to clear customs, check-in my bags again and make it onto my flight to JFK? I'm flying Delta and the tickets were purchased together. Any tips for making this go as smoothly as possible? I dont have much experience with airports :(

That should barely be enough time if you arrive on-time. You will arrive in the S satellite, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US customs, then re-check your bags at the transfer desk then go through security and back to the departure level of the S Satellite.
