  • Arrive T3 (United), Depart International (Cathay) - Time Needed?
    Aug 19, 2014

Hello, Will be arriving 10.30am from Las Vegas on United (internal flight). Then have to collect baggage > exit terminal > get to the International terminal > check-in > clear security for a 13.45 Departure to Hong Kong (Cathay). Is 3 hours enough time to comfortably do this (even with delays) or better to get an earlier flight from Vegas (with 5 hr wait between flights)? Many Thanks!

That should be plenty of time.

    Is there a post-security connection/walkway between T1 (Southwest) and t2 (American)?

No, the walkway between T1 and T2 is outside security.

  • connecting times transfer AMS > IAH > LAX

Hi, is 1 hr 20 min enough time for getting immagrations and customs before connecting flight to LAX? I'm arriving IAH from AMS and flying all flights with United.

That is below the minimum connection time for an International -> Domestic transfer at IAH, but it may be possible if your flight from Amsterdam is on-time or early.

  • international connection in ORD - reclaim luggage & customs?

I am flying from Beijing PEK to Amsterdam, through ORD. Will I have to reclaim my luggage and go through customs in ORD? Is 90 minutes long enough to make my connection?

Yes, you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your baggage, and go through US Customs then re-check your bags. Then if you are taking United to Amsterdam you will have to take the ATS train to Terminal 1 and go through security. If you are taking KLM to Amsterdam you will stay in Terminal 5 and go through security there.

90 minutes should be barely enough time if your tickets were bought together. It will be not enough time if they were not.

Yes, it's United. Ugh. Sounds like a pain.

My tickets were bought together. I'll be hoping for an early arrival and be that person running through the airport. Wish me luck! Thanks so much for your quick reply.

Making an international connection through LAX. Scheduled to arrive in Terminal 7 (LAX), and departing Terminal 1 (LAX). I have about 90 minutes to make the connection. Any suggestions for getting through this transfer quickly and with minimal fuss?

There are no LAX-FRA flights from Terminal 1. Terminal 1 is used by Southwest Airlines. What airlines are you flying?

  • International to Domestic Transfer

Hi - I am flying from London to Vegas (single ticket) with a transfer at SFO. I was wondering what I would need to to do at SFO to successfully transfer to the next flight (2 hours between flights). Will I need to depart immigration and collect bags and recheck in at United Airlines desk or is there a better way?

Yes, you have the procedure correct. The purpose of claiming the bags is to go through US Customs. After you re-check your bags you will go through security.

  • getting from terminal 3 to terminal 5

My daughter flys into terminal 3 and has 45 minutes to get to a flight in terminal 5. Is this doable?

She would go out front of terminal 3 and wait at the first curb for a shuttle bus to take her to T5. They come every 10 minutes approx. At T5 she gets in line for pre TSA approval (they put a little sticky on the outside of her passport denoting she has been asked the "did anyone strange ask you to put something in your bag"? questions). From there she will go into a large room to obtain her boarding pass according to airline. If she already has a boarding pass she will go straight to the TSA screening. It is doable but barely and it depends on how long the TSA line is at the time she arrives.

45 minutes really isn't adequate. It could take her close to that just to GET to T5.

Saturday arrival United 1261 at 1:40 pm from Orlando....leave United 480 at 2:25 pm to Seattle. Nervous about the short connection time. Currently seats are at rear of plane with carryon. Thoughts and ideas?

45 minutes isn't that short. Both flights should be in Terminal C. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

  • Dublin to Tampa - via PHL

I'll be flying into terminal A West and then getting a connecting flight to Tampa, probably from terminal C (both flights with US Airways). Because Dublin has US preclearance, can I just walk freely between terminals A West and C when I land in PHL, without having to clear security?

On arrival at PHL you will be considered a domestic arrival. All terminals, other than TF, are connected at post-security areas by moving walkways, just proceed to Terminal B/C (with B & C gates on opposite sides) - C gates: C16-31.

Great, thanks for the info! Read somewhere else that A West wasn't connected to the others.

Hello Zap and team, Looking at flying LHR-ORD-YYZ with AA. LHR-ORD will be on AA47 arriving 1525 then ORD-YYZ on AA3630 departing 1735. Hand baggage only, will 2 hrs likely be enough to clear immigration, then back through security please? Arrive at T5 and depart T3. Cheers

Yes 2 hrs are plenty of transfer time. I suggest you open www.ifly.com/ord, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text: (a) What's New, item 4; (b) Getting Around: Item 1, & (c) International Terminal 5 details at end.

my daughter is travelling from Europe to Mexico City via IAH. She holds a UK passport. Does she need to go through the immigration/bag pickup/dropoff process and does she require an ESTA for the short layover between arriving on KLM and departing on Aeromexico? Thanks very much

All international arrivals at US airports go through FIC process. No ESTA requirement. I suggest to open www.ifly.com/iah, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text, including 'International Arrivals' and Terminal Details.

  • Santa Fe, American Eagle>All Nippon Tokyo>Bangkok

I arrive at LAX from Santa Fe Municipal Airport @ 9:35 AM Terminal 4, with an International departure time of 11:50 AM on All Nippon Airlines. Do I need to claim and re-check my bags through, and most importantly, is this plenty of time to catch my international flight?

All Nippon departs from the Bradley Terminal (TBIT). On arrival at T4, you need to exit the terminal, and walk to the left around the corner to TBIT, where you will need to go through security check before proceeding to your gate. Your bags will automatically be transferred to your connecting flight. You have plenty of time.

If you purchased your tickets together they will be transferred but if you purchased separately they will not. Also, you will have to obtain your ANA boarding passes from their counter in the TBIT as AA won't be able to issue them.

Hi, my husband and I are looking into book a flight from Vancouver Canada to Lihue Hawaii. All would be booked with united and we would clear customs in Vancouver prior to take off. They are stating a 44 min connection time in between. If we went straight from plane to plane would we be alright? I have made 40 min connection in Seattle before but am not familiar with San Fran airport. Many thanks.

Yes, San Francisco is a little more delay prone butt the process would be the same. All United gates at SFO are connected inside security.

Do I have to take my baggage in LAX ? I'm from toronto to Hawaii

If your tickets were bought together you do not. You will preclear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto.
