  • International transfer to Orlando
    Jul 29, 2013
    4
Hi - Can anyone advise please ? Arriving United from Manchester, England Sat 14.55, connecting to United Orlando flight 17.10. What's the process please ? We're first timers connecting internationally and presume will have to go through customs etc. Will everything happen in Terminal C ? Thanks for any tips.

All international arrivals at IAD are being transported to the International Arrivals Building at the west end of the main terminal for passport check, retrieving checked bags, go through customs clearance and - if transferring to another flight - re-check-in bag. Thereafter you need to take the Mobile Lounge shutttle to gates D1-32, or take the AeroTrain (follow signs) to A,B, or C gates. United uses A,B,C,D gates - your boarding pass & the overhead screens will indicate flight & gatenumber.

Sajul is incorrect. You will clear immigration in the C concourse. You then just re-check your bags and go upstairs into the C/D concourse where your flight to Orlando will depart.

    Thank you Zap

  • Enough time for connection and grab food?
    Jul 28, 2013

We arrive a UA fight from SF. We then have 45 minutes to make our connection on a UA Express flight to Roanoke VA. Is there enough time to grab food to go and make it for the flight? Do you know which terminals we will be in? Traveling with 2 kids who will need to eat on the connecting flight. OH and if you have any restaurant recos that would be awesome. Thanks!!

United's domestic flights are in both Terminals 1 & 2, United Express is in Terminal 2 - a post-security walkway connects both. As to food: You have the choice of either (a) food delivery to your gate: Apple App Store & Android Market make the B4 YOU BOARD available, where you can order from participating HMSHost restaurants free food delivery; or (b) open www.ifly.com/ord and click on 'Airport Information' /'Restaurants', then choose Terminals 1 or 2 at top. As you need to be at the gate area at least 15 minutes prior to departure time, going to a restaurant is probably not a good idea.

There's a McDonald's in Terminal 2, where your Roanoke flight will probably depart. You can grab food from there really quickly probably. You can also get some sandwiches and pack them and eat them on the plane from San Francisco.

thanks so much! i'm curious to try the app.

    mcd's s is our fall back :-)

  • Transferring terminals

My wife is traveling alone on July 28 and is concerned about making the transfer from Delta 1781 to Delta 4047. Will there be anyone available to assist her if she feels she needs the help? How long should the transfer take?

Your wife should arrive at Concourse T, gate T4, of the Main terminal; from there she should take the escalator or elevator to the Plane Train (follow signs) to distant Concourse D, with departing gate D29. Estimated transfer time gate-to-gate 30 mins at most.

  • Flying into EWR from IAD and then going to DEL

Do I need to do immigration again or will I be checked in at IAD? What about baggage? Will that be cheked in all the way? IAD to EWR is ETA 6:20 PM in TC and EWR to DEL is 8:20 PM in TC United. Will that be enough time?

Both flights are domestic flights - therefore no immigration procedure necessary. Your arrival is at Terminal B (Delta) and your departure is in Terminal C (United). If both flights are booked on one ticket, bags will be transferred - if not, you need to claim them and re-check-them in with United. Either way, you need to take the Airtrain to Terminal C, and go through security check before proceedi to your departing gate.

Disregard what Sujul said about "Delta" and bags not being transfered. It appears both of your flighs are on United as Delta does not fly from IAD to EWR. 2 Hours is plenty of time. United runs a secure side shuttle if you need to change terminals.

  • have 30 min connection is E connected to C to make a run for it?

I am flying into IAH from HNL thurs am flt 200, arrive 815am looks like usually terminal C, flight to panama city PTY terminal E at 851 am, will i make it? (will my luggage? ;) )

That time seems to be inadequate, as you need to be at your connecting gate at least 15 mins prior to departure (depending on Airline rules). At IAH, the above-ground TerminaLink train, which starts its service at the Terminal A station, connects terminals TA, B, C, D/E inside security (allow for 30 mins transfer from TA to TD) A tunnel connects TD to TE, arriving at TE at center (gates E1-E11 left, gates E12-24 right). If you booked your 2 flights on one ticket, your bags should be automatically transferred to the connecting flight. Check with your first airline.

It's possible. C and E are actually connected directly, you don't have to take a train. You should have enough time but you'll have to hurry.

Thanks so much for your replies! It really helped!

  • 67 minutes layover

Is 67 minutes layover enough time if both flight are domestic US airways ?

Yes, if your first flight is on-time that should be plenty of time.

My daughter is arriving at Terminal 5 and will have two hours to get luggage and take to United in Terminal 1 or 2. How is the best way to do this and will she be OK time-wise?

If she has to re-check luggage with United (that hasn't been checked through to her destination at her international origin) she has to do that in T1. The only way to get from T5 to T1 is via the ATS train. It takes about 15-20 minutes. She will probably be OK if her first flight is on-time. If her bags are checked through to her destination, she can re-check them after customs in T5 and then take the ATS to T1 or T2, wherever her flight departs. If you post more info on her flights I can help you more.

  • Connecting in Frankfurt

Arriving with Lufthansa from USA to transfer for Croatia Airlines only have one hour time is that enough time and do I need to re-check my bags

Lufthansa will arrive at Concourse A, which is a separate building with A gates on the ground level & Z gates (for return to U.S.) on the upper level. Your bags will automatically be transferred as both airlines are members of the Star Alliance. U.S. arrivals will go through passport check in area A. Thereafter all you need to do is go to your connecting gate - Croatia Air is also in Concourse A). A gates are A1-42 at left & A50-69 at right. Your time should suffice.

  • Best layover time for connection between McNamara and North terminals?
    Jul 25, 2013
    2
Coming from Paris to McNamara; need to connect to Southwest at North terminal. Have a choice of 2 flights -- one allows 2 hours; other 3 hours. Which should I choose?

Definitely the 3 Hours. Immigration could take an hour, The bus can take another half an hour, and you have to be at the Southwest counter an hour early to re-check your bag.

Thanks. Scheduled the 3 hour layover, even though I'll not have to check any baggage (all carry on) the additional time should relieve some anxiety, especially if the AirFrance flight is a bit late getting in.

  • Getting from United Gate to Ethiopian Airways?
    Jul 25, 2013
    1
My 16-year old is traveling alone this Saturday morning and will need to get herself from United Airlines Flight UA 5034 (operated by Trans States) from Bradley International in Hartford, CT arriving 7:22am to Ethiopian Airlines for Flight ET 501 departing for Addis Ababa at 10:15am. Would you please give us advice on the best way for her to get to her gate? And what about luggage? Does she have to pick it up and carry it through the terminal? Thanks. We're very grateful for your help!

If her tickets were bought on one reservation then her baggage will be checked straight through to Addis Ababa as United and Ethiopian are codeshare partners. Her flight is currently slated to arrive in C, and she just has to take the Aerotrain from C to A where the Ethiopian flight will depart. There's a chance her arrival will be moved to A, in which case she will be even closer. She has plenty of time.

I am arriving at DTW from Amsterdam by KLM terminal EM at 10:40,to board Canadair to JAX Florida at12:01. Can I catch my flight considering time loss with the USA Customs/Immigration.

FYI "Canadair" is an aircraft type, not an airline. Your flight is probably on Delta Connection. Both of your flights will be in the same terminal (the McNamara terminal). You should have enough time but you'll have to hurry. If you miss your connection, that is the only flight of the day between Detroit and Jacksonville. If that happens you will probably be rebooked through Atlanta.

  • 36 minutes to get from terminal C to Terminal E--enough?
    Jul 25, 2013
    2
My flight UA 360 arrives at IAH 4:58 pm; flight UA1035 to Quito leaves at 5:34 pm. Is this a reasonable time frame to make the connection?

That's very tight, but possible, you'll have to hope your flight is on-time or you'll be stuck in Houston overnight. I would try for an earlier flight to Houston.

    Thank you!

I fly from MSP on Delta Connection Pinnacle CRJ900 next week, connect to Delta to Amsterdam out of T4, 2 hours between. Pinnacle arrive T2? if so, best way to get T2 - T4, with carry on? enough time?

Yes, the Pinnacle flight will arrive in T2. Delta runs a shuttle bus on the secure side between T4 and T2. You should have enough time.

coming in on delta with 45 minutes to get to Expressjet. Can I make it?

If your Expressjet flight is Delta Connection, then yes, you can make it. All the Delta gates at DTW are close together.
