  • Flying Lagos - Dubai - Seattle - Calgary

I, wife and two kids would be travelling to Calgary through Seattle on Emirate and would connect on Alaska Airline... I would like to know if We would be collect our baggage at our final destination (Calgary) and would not need to check out and check in at Seattle. Though, Alaska Airline has an interline agreement with Emirate and would be otravelling using a single ticket.

You will have to claim your bags to go through US Customs in Seattle, however, if your bags are tagged through to Calgary (YYC) you can immediately re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then proceed through security and to your Alaska Airlines departure gate.

How can I get the bag tagged through to Calgary? I have a single ticket with a final destination on it... Is the transfer desk before or after the custom point? If I use the transfer desk, would I still have to claim my bags and move them to the desk. Excuse my ignorance. I am bothered because we would have like 8 big bags because we are first time immigrant to Canada and with kids, it surely may be stressful.

If you have a single ticket then Emirates should tag your bags through to Calgary in Lagos. The Transfer desk is after you go through US Customs. It will be fairly obvious. Yes, you have to claim your bags because you have to go through US Customs. Make sure you have valid US Transit Visas for your family.

May I ask what is the purpose of asking the airline to tag my bags through to Calgary if I would still need to claim it from Emirate and by myself check it in to Alaska Airline? I ordinarily would think they would send it all through and only collect at Calagry... Yes, myself and family have transit visa through US. I called Emirate help desk and was told that I would collect my bag at Calagry if I check it in through to my destination... Now, I am confused.... I booked flight through US because it was half the cost of that through Toronto.

Because then you won't have to put your bag on a separate conveyor belt system, have to pick it up in the main terminal, then take it up to a different level and wait in another line to check it with Alaska and pay checked bag fees, which for 8 bags would be $200. US Customs policy is that in all but 3 airports, all passengers must claim their bags to go through US Customs, even if they are connecting to a different country. The only airports that are exceptions to that policy are Dallas/Ft. Worth, Houston, and Miami.

4/16/15 We arrive in Detroit at 2:50pm and depart at 3:30pm for Minneapolis on Delta. Is that enough time to make the connection?

Yes, that is enough time if the first flight is on-time and domestic. All Delta gates at DTW are connected inside security.

We will arrive on a Monday afternoon on Air France from Paris and will then connect to Delta flight to San Diego in Terminal 5. It is a single ticket and bags will be checked. What is the process and is 2 hours enough time? Thanks.

Also, I believe we arrive in International Terminal.

You will arrive in the International Terminal, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then follow the signs for connecting passengers, re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then make a short walk past Terminal 4 to Terminal 5, then go through security and to your departure gate.

Thanks. Is 2 hours enough time?

Is 78 min enough to go through customs at MSP and connect to an ATL flight. All on Delta. Thanks.

That is well below the recommended minimum International to Domestic connection time of 90 minutes. I would contact your travel agent or Delta and request a later flight to ATL.

I will fly Delta from SFO to PVG, and connected in SEA, but the connection time is only 30 mins. Is it an enough time? thanks

Yes, that should be enough time if the first flight is on-time. You just have to walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate which should both be in the S Satellite.

Thanks for the info. Thus, both domestic and international gates for Delta are in the same area?

    Yes they are

I have a flight from Sweden to LAX which arrives at 4:00 pm. I then have a flight on a separate airline which leaves at 5:50 pm out of terminal 6. It will be on a Tuesday. I will also only have carry on luggage. Will 1 hour and 50 min be enough time to catch my next flight?

Yes, that should be enough time. if your flight out of Terminal 6 is domestic you can check in online before you leave Sweden.

  • From Madrid to San Francisco

Hi, I'm flying from Madrid to San Francisco, with connexion in DFW. So I was wondering whether I'd have to pick up my luggage, get through customs, check in at DFW, etc. When I booked at AA, those flights have the same code (AA37, exactly). So, in case I would have to get though customs, how long would it take? Thank you

I forgot this: I am spanish, and I'm not getting a visa, I'll just get ESTA

Yes, in DFW you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go through security and to your departure gate. The same aircraft will likely not fly you MAD-DFW and DFW-SFO.

Minimum International to Domestic connection time is 90 minutes and I recommend 2 hours.

Am traveling from Detroit to ORD (United airlines) nd then from ORD to Vancouver (United airlines). Will the 45 min layover time be enough?do I have to go through security check again..help!!

Yes, that should be enough time. All you have to do in ORD is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. All United gates at ORD are connected inside security.

I will have a connection in DFW for only 40 mins (LAX to DFW to Cozumel, Mexico). I will be flying with American Airlines in February. Will the 40 min connection be enough time? not sure I have to go though customs/immigration. I am a US Citizen.

I will also have the same route back with only 1 hour and 30 minutes layover at DFW, will that also be enough time?

On your way to Mexico you do not have to go through Customs in Dallas. 40 minutes is enough time but doesn't leave much time to spare for delays. All Terminals are connected inside security by the SkyLink train. On your return you barely have enough time.

Hi, I will be flying from CUU (Chihuahua, Mex) to CMH (Columbus, Ohio) and connecting in IHA, no checked bags, is 1:38 enough for the connection? Thank you so much!

Yes, that should be enough time.

  • Connection time BEG-ATL via AMS
    Apr 13, 2015

I am considering travel route from BEG to ATL via AMS, with 1 hour 45 minutes for connection, however Air Serbia is usually late 30-40 minutes. So, is one hour enough for that connection at AMS?

Assuming tickets were purchased together, that should still be enough time, even if they're 45 minutes late.

Hi, I'm traveling US Airways on Sunday arriving from Orlando at 17:12 and departing flight to UK London, 18:45. I'm checking in baggage at Orlando, will I need to go through US immigration, reclaim and recheck at Charlotte? And is that enough time to catch the UK bound flight? Thanks..

hello, I'm arriving from London into Charlotte with a turn around time of 1.25mins flying into Fort Myers saying with US Airways all the way but know this could a differnt airline on their behind. is this enough time

    apologies, their behalf

SARB, No, you do not go through US Customs when you leave the US and you won't have to do anything with your bags in Charlotte. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, you should have plenty of time.

Yes, Gin, both flights will be operated by US Airways. That should be enough time but it doesn't leave much if any time to spare if the flight from London arrives late.
