  • Transfer from Domestic to International
    Dec 1, 2013
    3
We are flying in from Victoria airport on Air Canada flight due to land at 11:24. Our International flight to London has changed from 15:00 take off to 13:25. Is this enough time to disembark, collect luggage and get to international check in at Air Transat before the desk closes an hour before take off?

First of all, you have plenty of time for transfer. The two International & Domestic terminals are connected at their level 2; Domestic T has gates C25-52; Int'l T has gated D50-78 & E67-99. ACanna uses the C, D & E gates; Air Transat uses D gates. If you purchased both flights on one ticket your bags will be automatically transferred, if not, contact Transat to find out if you need to claim bags on arrival and re-check them in at their counter. If yu have to transfer between terminals, follow signs: international signs are marked with a globe, domestic ones with a Canada flag.

Thanks sanov13. According to the Air Canada details we will be coming into terminal M. As the flights were booked separately we will need to collect our baggage ourselves and then check in at Air Transat. Its been suggested that we change our flight for an earlier one though!

YVR has no Terminal M - The M could stand for 'Main Terminal' - as both International & Domestic terminals are connected on their second level.

  • ORD to IAD 1 hour lay-over to CPH
    Nov 29, 2013

I am traveling tomorrow (with a stroller and a baby), arriving to IAD from ORD on UA 211 (terminal D?) and have 1h5min to change airlines, flying SAS to CPH (terminal B?). Not sure about the terminals. What's the quickest way to get from terminal D to B. Do I have to go thru security? Thanks!

IAD has 2 'Midfield Concourses'- separate buildings in same distance parallel to each other and to the Main Terminal: Concourse A/B & Concourse C/D. United uses gates C & D, (United Express gates A) and SAS gates B). If you land at Gate D you will need to take the shuttle bus to Concourse A/B - stopping at gate A6, where you would need to walk over to B gates (follow signs) If you land at C gates, follow signs to the Aerotrain to Concouse A/B. No security check needed. You should have enough time.

  • Connecting EWR to EDI
    Nov 28, 2013
    1
I'm connecting at EWR. Coming from Orlando and then going to Edinburgh, all on United. I have 1 hour 10 minutes, do I have to go through security again and can I make the connection?

United uses both Terminals C & A for domestic flights; and Terminal C for international flights. Upon arrival check the overhead screens for your connecting flight and gate number (i.e., gate C-10). If you need to transfer to Terminal A, take the shuttle bus between TA & TC (near gate C71) & at TA (near gate A28), - no security check needed. Your transfer time will suffice.

  • ORD to GUA via IAH (49minute layover)
    Dec 1, 2013

I'll be flying from Chicago-ORD to Guatemala City-GUA the day after Christmas. I have a 49 minute layover at IAH from Chicago to catch my connecting flight to Guatemala City. I am flying United, and both flights were booked on the same reservation. If all goes as planned I will only have a backpack and carry-on duffel to contend with--no checked bags. Is this likely to be enough time to make the connection (assuming no snowpocalypse)?

At IAH, United uses Terminals A, B, C & E (E for international flights). Absent incoming flight's delay, you should be able to make it on time. The above-ground TerminaLink train, which starts its service at the Terminal A station & connects terminals A, B, C, D/E inside security (30 mins transfer from A to D). However, If arriving at gates C29-45 and transferring to Terminal E: walk towards gates C14-24 and proceeds straight on to Terminal E (gates E1-24). Keep in mi that on your return you will need an extra half hour (minimum) for passport/ customs clearance.

P.S. D to E are connected by tunnel.

You will arrive in C and depart from D which are connected directly.

Sorry depart from E (still connected directly)

Yes, that should be enough time. It's an easy walk.`

Also, Alitalia flights from Rome to Tirana operate from Terminal 3 since Albania is outside schengen.

Arriving terminal B from UK leaving terminal C for internal US flight, minor travelling alone for 1st time. 2 and half hours between flights. Return flight:arrive and depart terminal C 1 hour between flights. Can you please give step by step instructions, also is sky train better than shuttle and does it drop you at correct level.

On the way into the US the passenger will have to take the AirTrain as he will be outside security after clearing US Customs. Note that many International flights do arrive in C so he or she may not need to change terminals (if you post the airline I can give you more information). Upon arrival in the US the passenger will go through US immigration, claim baggage, go through US customs, and then drop the baggage off at the re-check desk. Then follow the signs to the Airtrain if necessary, and take it to Terminal C where he or she will go through security and to the gate. However, he or she should also check the monitors as some United Express flights leave from Terminal A. On the way out of the US the passenger will only have to go from his or her arrival gate to their departure gate.

On arrival at Terminal B of Newark Airport you need to go through passport check, retrieve checked bags, go through customs clearance and - if transferring to another flight - re-check-in bag if you (the tag should indicate layover and final destination Airport Codes). To get to your connecting flight, board the Airtrain which serves all pre-security areas of all terminals - meaning you need to go through security check at Terminal C's. Level 3 of TC has 3 security checkpoints leading to airline gate areas C1, C2 & C3 and the Gate level leads to three gate areas: C1is arranged in a Y-shape (gates C70-99); C2 (gates C101-C115); & C3 (gates C120-139). The Shuttle Bus from Terminal C to Terminal A stops at gateway C1, near gate C71. Make sure you look at overhead screens on arrival to find your connecting flight & gate number. You have enough time for both trips (upon your return at TC you simply follow the AirTrain sign to TB & go through security check. I suggest you open www.ifly.com/ewr, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

Thanks. Edinburgh flight with United, itinerary states arrive TB, then homeward leave TC. Internal leaves TC onward to Buffalo with Republic airlines dba united express (not quite sure what that means), homeward from TC with Commutair dba united express. I hope there will be enough time?

Your Edinburgh flight will likely arrive in C, not B. The Buffalo flights will also likely operate from C. Sometimes the terminals listed in itineraries are inaccurate.

  • Flying in from glasgow to halifax via newark

What terminal does the halifax flight leave from and is 1.5 lay enough time togo through customs and imgration?

1.5 hours is pushing it, but is probably possible. The Halifax flights usually leave from Terminal A, so if that's the case then when you go through customs and re-check your bags, you will have to take the AirTrain to Terminal A, go back through security and to your gate.

THanks be myself but as long as i know i can re check before going to termiinla A. AM sure thre flight comes into terminal c from glagsow. left from there on the way out.

  • DEN to IAD then 1hr connection to LHR (London) Enough Time?
    Nov 26, 2013
    1
I arrive at IAD from Den at 8:55 p.m. Sun., Dec. 15, 2013, depart to London LHR 10:00 p.m. Both are United. Is one hour enough time to make the connection? What terminals are these likely to be at? I did book both at the same time.

Both flights will be on the C/D concourse at IAD. All you will have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. As such, if your first flight is on-time you will have enough time.

  • Stockholm to Denver, 1 hour transfer at. FRA?
    Nov 27, 2013

We just flew from Denver to Stockholm via FRA. We were both extremely surprised at the whole "bus gate" thing where we had to take a bus to get to our plane. On the way back we only have 1 hour, 5 minutes to make the connection. I'm very concerned now about that, especially if we arrive at a bus gate and have to wait for the bus to fill up, in addition to going through passport control, that this is a long shot. Is it doable or should I try to change to an earlier flight from Stockholm?

You won't have to go through immigration in Frankfurt on your return as both Sweden and Germany are in Schengen. All you will have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate and go through security at your gate. You should have enough time.

Really? That'd be be ideal. I thought transferring to a US flight though I'd have to go through it.

You will go through US immigration in Denver. That's the only immigration you'll have to go through.

Quality surprisingly high for airport food. Local chain not ruined by large-chain mediocrity. Best food I've found in Dulles.

Hi, I´ll have a delta connection in DTW from Miami to Sao Paulo (Brazil) and only 55minutes to do it. Will it be enough? Wich concourse will I arrive and depart?

You will both arrive and depart in the A Concourse of the McNamara Terminal. If your first flight is on-time you'll have enough time.

  • International flight layover
    Nov 26, 2013

I am flying from Regina sk Canada to San Jose Costa Rica with a 1hr11min lay over in Denver. Will this be enough time to clear customs and make my flight?

Yes, but you will have to hurry. You will arrive in the A concourse and then follow escalators to the upper level of the pedestrian bridge to the main terminal. There you will go through US immigration, claim your baggage and clear customs. You can then re-check your bags and take the underground train to concourse A if you are on the nonstop flight to SJO on Frontier or Concourse B if you're connecting in Houston to take United. It's a pretty tight connection but you should be OK if your first flight is on-time. However, if you miss your connection I don't know how you'll get to San Jose because Frontier only flies from Denver to San Jose a few times a week.
