  • connecting terminals?

never been to atl before. The terminals are all separate buildings apparently. is the plane train the only way to get from, one terminal to the other? or is there also some kind of walkway connecting them?

Those are concourses, not terminals. There is a walkway in the same tunnel as the plane train, but it's much faster to take the plane train, unless you feel like sprinting between concourses.

  • Is 2.5 hours to clear customs and change carriers enough time

We are arriving on Avianca from Peru/San Salvador at 12:35. Looks like Terminal 2. Our flight on Southwest departs at 15:00 from Terminal 1. Will that be enough time to clear customs, check luggage with Southwest and make the 15:00 flight?

Yes, that is probably enough time. You will probably be out of customs by about 13:15, so that leaves you another hour to get to T1 and check your bags.

  • Passing immigration in 1 h 20 min

Hello, I am European and will fly back to San Diego from Germany via Dallas right after the holidays. I am looking at a cheap flight itinerary, but it only gives 1 h 20 min layover time and I will have to pass immigration. Do I have to pick up bags and recheck the too? Will I have enough time for everything? I have never been to that airport. Thanks!!

The airline is American airlines btw

Yes, you will have to claim yoyur baggage to go through US Immigration in Dallas, then re-check your bags at the transfer desk immediately after. 1 hr 20 minutes is 10 minutes below the minimum connection time. You can risk it, but I would personally look for something longer.

Hello! I am about to book a round trip from Toronto to Barcelona via Rome from Alitalia's website. I have 2 hour layover for the one from Toronto to Barcelona and I have 1hr20min for the flight from Madrid back to Toronto. Do I need to claim my luggage when I am in Rome. Will I have enough time to make it? Thanks!

No, you will not have to claim your luggage in Rome. Both connection times are sufficient.

Thanks for the quick response ZAP!!! Highly appreciated!!!

We are flying with US Airways from Manchester, England to Orlando, FL via PHL. We have a 1 hr 59 min connection time. I have never been through PHL before so not exactly sure how it works...I presume as PHL will be our first port of call in the USA we will have to collect our baggage and drop it off somewhere after immigration? Both flights are with US Airways, will we land and depart from the same terminal? Also, is 1hr 59mins enough to get through to the gate before the next flight departs? Many Thanks in advance for any help and advice!

You will arrive in Terminal A, go through US Immigration, claim your baggage, go through US Customs, then re-check your baggage at the transfer desk, then go up to the departure level, through security, and to your departure gate, which will either be in Terminal A or in a nearby terminal connected by walkways. You have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

Many Thanks for all the really useful information...sounds pretty straight-forward! I will just hope we get into PHL on time! :)

from Delta T2 to Hawaiian T5 with 1 hour between flights. no checked baggage, will I have enough time? what's the fastest way to get from T2 to T5?

Get your Hawaiian boarding pass online before you leave on your first flight, you may get there after check-in cutoff. The only way to get between the terminals is on the AirTrain. You have enough time but it's cutting it pretty close.

How to you get from Concourse C to Concourse A when you only have 30 min between connections?

There's a tunnel connecting A to B and C. It's possible, but you have to hurry.

Travelling from Toronto through JFK on Delta Connection flight T2, connecting on Delta to Zurich T4. One hour connection. December 2014. All on one ticket purchased from Delta. Customs cleared at departure in Toronto. Bags checked through to Zurich. Is one hour enough time? Winter time travel.

Yes, it is enough time but it doesn't leave much time to spare in case of delays. T2 and T4 are connected inside security by a shuttle bus.

Flight from Austin to Hong Kong is connecting through ORD. Some of the layovers seem a little short; what is the minimum time we need? Group of 5, 4 US and one Chinese.

If both flights are on United, 45 minutes, if flying in on American and out on Cathay Pacific, I would want at least an hour because you'll have to change terminals.

  • Delta to British

In Jan 2015 I am flying SJU-JFK on Delta arriving at 3:58pm and connecting to British Airways to LHR, departing 7:20pm. I bought the whole ticket through Orbitz. Will I have to take out the luggage and recheck the bags at British Airways or will Delta check them through? And the BA boarding pass? What do I have to? Is this enough time?Thank you in advance

Yes, since you purchased one reservation DL should tag your bags through to BA. You won't have to do anything with them in JFK. You will have to take the ATS train from T4 to T7, get your boarding pass, and go through security. You have enough time.

    Thank you!

  • Airtrain Connection

Hi there. I have a flight from YYZ -> JFK -> NRT on 15 Dec. The flight arrives at JFK Terminal 7 and connects with a flight in Terminal 1. If using the airtrain to get from 1-7 will it be within security or outside of it. If it is outside of security will checked bags still be transferred to the connecting flight? Lastly, is two hours enough time to make the connection. Thank you.

The Airtrain runs outside security. However, if bags are checked through to NRT they will still be transferred for you. Yes, 2 hours should be enough time.

Hi ZAP Today our plane departure in ZRH got changed so that we have less connecting time at JFK. It's only 1 h 57 min. We're flying with Delta. Is that enough time for immigration, customs, security and a terminal change? It's on Good Friday 2015. And I saw that some flights to Tampa are leaving from terminal 4....? Thank you so much for your help!

Yes, that should be enough time. Yes, more Delta flights are now using T4 and fewer are using T2.

    Thanks! Happy holidays!
