  • connection time

Hello, I am arriving with a friend from Italy (Milan, MXP) at 1.30 p.m. on Monday. We have the connection at 2.59 p.m. to SFO. All flights with United Airlines, can we make it? How long does it take for security controls generally? Checked bags are managed by the UA? Thanks a lot!

Yes, that should be enough time. Immigration will probably take 30 minutes to an hour though so there's no time to waste. Yes, you will re-check your bags with United when you exit customs. If you miss your connection United has many more EWR-SFO flights so there's no need to worry too much.

  • Transfer Hawaiian to SWA- no checked bag

Monday 6/17-Arrive on HAW at LAS 7:20am- depart SWA at 9:00am- no checked bags- 4 people- is this enough time to make the connection? Please advise shortest route. Thanks

That should be enough time. There's a shuttle that runs on the curbside from T3 to T1. That would probably be the shortest route. It might be possible to take the D-satellite train from T3-E to the D-satellite, then the train from the D-satellite to T1 too, but that would be a pretty non-standard route and I'm not sure it's possible. Check in for your Southwest flight before you leave Hawaii.

At LAS, currently Hawaiian uses the Satellite Concourse with gates D1-59, which is located south, between Terminals 1 & 3, and served by the D tram & C tram, arriving there one level below the gates (in the center - take escalator down). Southwest is presently in Concourse C (gates C1-25) of Terminal 1. Without baggage transfer you should be able to make it easily in that time.

Monday morning is a very busy time to to leave SWA, can be a very long security line. Can be very long waits but as long as all goes smooth and with no bags to transfer you should just make it. And yes you must get a shuttle from Terminal 3 to Terminal 1 and then get to the C gates, which can be got to by going to level 1 of terminal 1 just go straight towards the Starbucks on level 1 then head around it out the doors right behind it and cross the drop off street and when you enter the other building turn left and head up the escalators and you are there.

I will arrive from Vancouver 5:41 pm Westjet and transfer to United flight leaving 7:40 pm. Will I have enough time to make this flight and clear all hurdles?

There aren't many hurdles as you will pre-clear US Immigration in Vancouver. Check where your United flight will depart from - if it's a United Express flight leaving from an E or F gate, then you can easily walk from T3 where Westjet will arrive to T2. If you're leaving from B or C, then you can either walk all the way from T3 to T1 inside the secure area or you can take the ATS train, but if you do that, you will have to go back through security in T1. If you have checked baggage Westjet will not transfer to United, so you'll have to claim in T3 and take it on the ATS to T1 and re-check it. Regardless of what you have to do, I think you have enough time.

I will be arriving in Houston at 8:20am at gate c and departing to Guadalajara at 8:55am at gate E do I have enough time or should I be worried?

That's a pretty tight connection - but those gate areas are fairly close to each other. If your first flight is on time you should be able to make it. Also, United has more IAH-GDL flights later in the day if you miss that one. Also, It appears most United IAH-GDL flights leave from B, not E, in which case you would have to take the TerminaLink train.

About how long will it take me to walk from C to E?

It depends where in C to where in E, but probably 10-20 minutes.

  • AMS-LAX-LAS: what to do with baggage?
    Apr 6, 2013

Quick question and probably an easy one for you guys: I will be arriving from Amsterdam with KLM and connecting to Las Vegas with Delta (one ticket). I expect to arrive at T2 and will depart from T5. I know that I will have to pick up my baggage and take it through customs myself, but I'm not sure about the next part. Will I have to carry my suitcase to T5 myself, or can I leave it in T2? Thanks!

    There should be a re-check in T2.

  • 50mins connection to NRT

I'm frlying thru IAD. (UAX to UA intenational) first tie @ IAD for such a transfer. based on the thread here, it seems like my UAX will go into A and my departure would be C. is there an additional security check point toward international departure gates on this transfer? (some airports do have them)

There is no additional security check. Some UAX flights do use C (mainly larger regional jets).

Thx ZAP, as my screen name says, i'm flying from JAX and UAX is ERJ-145 with 2-1 array. so.. the chance is my flight will go into those smaller carrier section in A. my current connecting flight to NRT is the last flight of the day for UA. I wish this 50 mins would be enough.

I am Egyptian and I have a Canadian permanent resident card and I have a layover in JFK airport .. Can I leave the airport for couple of hours without US visa?

There's nobody who monitors who comes and goes from the airport. When you exit US immigration you will be in the non-sterile area, so you can go where you want. However, you will need a C-1 transit visa http://www.immihelp.com/visas/transitvisa/c1visa.html

  • New Rules for Connecting Flights?
    Apr 5, 2013

I have a flight in July from Seattle to AMS on Delta that arrives at 8:30 am and then I want to book a connecting flight on Alitalia (KLM codeshare) to Florence (our actual destination) that leaves at 9:55 am, so only an 1 hr 25 min. to connect. Delta said initially that they could book our luggage through and we wouldn't have to clear customs. Then, they checked and said the law just changed so now we have to get our luggage and clear customs before catching our flight to Florence. (1) Is this true (2) if so, is 1 hr, 25 minutes enough? - We are sitting in the 1st row in 1st class and have priority on our luggage; (3) if we were to miss the connection bc we didn't have enough time, what are our options - will they rebook us? It's 2 separate tickets bc our Delta flight is one is using miles and I have to purchase the second one. There are other options w KLM or AF, but they all require an additional connection (mostly through Paris), so not ideal. We are traveling with a baby and coming off an overnight flight, so we would like to the direct flight. Any assistance would be appreciated bc I have never been to AMS airport. I am also not sure of gate distance, etc.

Schiphol Airport has one passenger terminal with Piers (Concourses) B through H & M. On arrival at AMS, follow signs to Baggage Hall on ground level, claim bags, go through customs, enter arrivals hall with your bags in tow, proceed to the departures level one level up, check in your bags with Alitalia/KLM, get your boarding pass and proceed to your gate. Your time should be enough as you will be the first ones exiting the arriving plane. I strongly suggest that you open www.ifly.com/ams then click on 'Terminal Map' under QUICK LINKS and scroll down to the detailed text and pay attention to Flight transfer & transfer times.

Thanks. Are you aware of whether there is a new rule that just now applies that requires us to go through Customs to get our bags? We should have the second leg boarding passes already and the two airlines are partners.

Flying in from Charlotte on 4/14 on UA2358 USAir connecting to UA883 United to Maui. Are they in the same concourse and will they transfer our bags? 2:51 layover enough time? First time flyers

At DEN, US Airways uses 3 gates at the end of Concourse C. Your United flight will be from Concourse B. There's a short underground train ride between the two terminals. If your tickets were bought on the same reservation then they will transfer your bags. 2:51 is plenty of time.

Will we have to go through security again when we go from Concourse C to Concourse B?

No, they're all connected beyond security.

Will todays cancelations and delays in denver impact our flights on Sunday?

Our flight artrtives at terminal B from paris and we have to get to a united flight to seattle. How long willthis take to get through customs and check in at United

Immigration will take about an hour or so, maybe 90 mins, then you go upstairs and take the Airtrain over to Terminal C. Check in and security there will probably take about a half hour, as it will probably be pretty busy at that time.

I have a 69 minute layover and am flying in to T5 and need to switch to T4. Will I be be able to make the connection without leaving the secured area?

T4 and T5 are not connected beyond security. You'll have to hurry, but I think you'll still have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

Thank you! Keep you fingers crossed for me!

i am arriving from sfo at 9:15. Is it possible to catch a train to cologne at 10:15? I have no luggage to wait for. How long would the custom clearance usually take?

One hour transfer time at AMS will suffice. The Schiphol local train station is directly below the passenger terminal, For train connections open: schiphol.nl/Travellers/ToFromSchiphol/PublicTransport/TrainConnectionsInternational.htm

D11 to C12....I have only 45 min for my connection...Will it be enough...What is the fastest way to get to C12 from D11... Thanks for your help....

On arrival at ATL, walk from D11 to D16, go down the escalator & take the Plane Train to Concourse C, where it arrives downstairs of (upstairs)gates C30-57 & C22-C1. 45 mins should suffice.
