  • T5 domestic to T1 international in 1hr 40mins
    May 24, 2014
I'm about to book a jetblue flight that gets in to JFK from ORD at 11:10pm on Saturday night. My following flight is at 12:50am Sunday from JFK to ICN (korean air). The transfer is from terminal 5 to terminal 1, domestic to international, and I would only have 1hr 40mins. It is different airlines so I have to check back in, but I have no bags to check and I will have completed web-check in by then. Will I have enough time? How likely is a flight delay for late Saturday night and how reliable is jetblue flight time? FYI I'm a frequent flyer who knows my way around and am a fast walker :)

With only a carry-on bag, all you need to do is on arrival at T5 follow signs to the 'Airline Terminals Train' which makes its continuous round between JFK's terminals (counter-clockwise). - your next stops would be T4, T3, T2, T1. On arrival at T1 you need to go through security check & proceed to your gate. You have enough time.

  • Terminals 4-2 and shuttle location
    May 24, 2014
This is my first time flying and I'm trying to figure things out just right as I'm flying by myself. My flight is coming from RIC to JFK Terminal 2 and I have a connecting flight to Terminal 4 that goes to Vancouver. My layover is roughly 2hrs. I need to know if I'll have enough time and where exactly the Delta shuttles are usually located as I have no idea and can't find the information.

At JFK, Delta's continuously running shuttle bus service between gate C60 at T2 & gate B23 at T4 eliminates the need for security check - add about 12 minutes of transfer time. I suggest you open www.ifly.com/jfk, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

  • 35 minutes enough to connect to Japan Airlines
    May 24, 2014
I have 35 minutes to connect from a local AA flight from RIC in O'hare to Narita on JAL. Is this enough time?

I have 35 minutes to connect from a local AA flight from RIC in O'hare to Narita on JAL. Is this enough time? AA's domestic flights & international departures are at Terminal 3, which has G , H, K & L concourses & gates: Concourse L to the left, the Y-shaped gateway to Concourses K & H in the center and Concourse G to the left. Check overhead screens on arrival indicating flight & gate numbers. Hurry!

  • E to A in 1h45
    May 28, 2014
Hi! I'm flying Delta from LHR to BOS and on to JFK, with a 1hr 45 layover. Is that enough time? I know I'll arrive into terminal E and depart from A - how long is the walk? Will it be easier if I try to take only carry on? What do I do if I miss the connection? I've heard terrible things about Delta!

There are no post-security transfers at BOS. Terminal A /TA is south of TE. After passport control, customs clearance & baggage re-check, use TE's level 3 bridge to TA (5-7 mins), go through security check and on to your gate. With customs /baggage re-check (regardless whether US Citizen or foreigner) you may not make it in time if arriving at rush hours -with only a carry-on bag, you save time. Shuttles 11 & 55 make their round between the terminals outside of the baggage claim area.

Thanks! It was fine in the end as my inbound arrived a little earlier than scheduled and the line at immigration wasn't too long (but very slow) which took about an hour. Then took bus 11 which had me at terminal A in minutes. Outbound was of course delayed but I would've made it anyway.

  • 1 hour layover
    May 23, 2014
I'm flying from Canada to San Francisco with a one hour layover in Detroit. Do I need to go through customs in Detroit, and is one hour enough time?

Where in Canada are you coming from? Most major airports in Canada have US Immigration pre-clearance. If the airport you're flying from does have it, you will pre-clear US Immigration there and all you will have to do in Detroit is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. If both of your flights are on Delta all their gates are connected within security.

I'm flying from Halifax, and it looks like they do have pre-clearance: http://hiaa.ca/travel-checklist/travel-to-the-us/ Thanks for the info!

  • Arrival & Departure
    May 22, 2014
I will arrive at ORD from ATL @ 12:25pm and depart @ 01:55pm to Tokyo Narita (NRT) on flights operated by American Airlines, which terminal will I arrive and depart from ORD.

Both flights will be in Terminal 3 - all you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You should have plenty of time.

  • USA to AMS to EDI
    May 22, 2014
Arriving 8:35 AM in AMS, connecting to KLM going to EDI at 10:00 a.m. Is that enough time

Yes, that should be plenty of time - AMS has sterile intl->intl connections so you will just have to go through security at your departure gate.

  • How to go from terminal 1 to terminal 3
    May 22, 2014
How to go from terminal 1 to terminal 3

There is a well signed route. You can either walk along the curbfront or through the terminal, depending on your needs.

Thank you for your help. do you know how long it takes walking from 1 to 3 ?

At FCO Boarding Areas domestic boarding areas are connected. You arrive at Boarding gate Area B and head for boarding Area D or H of T3.(D or H gates) - simply follow 'Boarding Area" signs.

  • International Connecting flight
    May 21, 2014
Hi, i'm flying united airlines from London heathrow to Washington Dulles, and then on to united express flight to Charleston, if the plane lands i'll have 1 hour and 12 minutes to get on my connecting flight, A) is this enough time at IAD? B) will they transfer my bag so i can go straight to the gate instead of going through to check my bag in again?

No, that probably won't be enough time unless your flight gets in early. You will clear US Immigration in United's facility in concourse C/D, claim your bags, go through US customs, and then re-check your bags with United. Then you will go through security and to your gate, which may require a trip on the aerotrain or mobile lounge to concourse A.

  • Layover time International to International - is 1h45 enough?
    May 21, 2014
I will fly FRA - IAH - YEG (Edmonton, Canada) on a Sunday. Arrival IAH at 1:45pm Terminal D with LH, dept. at 3:30 Terminal C with UA. It's one ticket sold by LH. Is that tight? Would you recommend using the One Stop program and travel with carry on luggage only (would be challenging, but possible). There is no later direct flight to Edmonton, missing the connection would be painful.

If your flight is on-time you should be able to make the connection either with or without checked bags. Also, if you miss your connection United still may be able to get you to Edmonton that evening by rebooking you through Denver.

  • Terminal 5 to Terminal 4 - have 35 min only
    May 21, 2014
I have only 35 min between my connection as the first flight was delayed. I have to move from terminal 5 to terminal 4, I already have boarding pass. Is it possible?

It's possible if you don't have any baggage to transfer and check.

  • Enough time?
    May 21, 2014
I'm arriving in JFK T8 from YYZ at 0810 and my next flight is CX841 at 0900. Would I be able to make it?

It will be very difficult - you'll have to take the AirTrain/Air Terminals Train to Terminal 7 and go through security. It's possible but there's very little room for any delays, which are common at JFK.

If I get into NYC the night before (2145 into LGA), should I go straight to JFK to wait for my next flight or do you have any other advice?

You'd have to sleep on the floor at JFK if you went straight there - I'd stay in a hotel near JFK or LGA.

  • Time needed ... Terminal C to Terminal E
    May 21, 2014
I am flying Jet Blue from Richmond, VA arriving in Terminal C and then departing on Are Lingus from Boston to Dublin in Terminal E. I have 1 hour 20 minutes between flights. Is this enough time? I know that I will have to go through security again in TE. What's the usual wait time for security at TE. My flight to Dublin departs at 6:15pm.

It should be enough time. You shouldn't have to do anything with your bags and JetBlue should be able to issue both boarding passes in Richmond.

  • Domestic to International
    May 21, 2014
Flying from NY to Logan and catching a flight on SATA to Portugal. 1 hour 45 layover at Logan. That enough time or should I change initial flight?

Will you have checked bags? What airline are you flying to BOS? I would probably want more time.

Airline is not booked yet to Boston. Want to check before I book the initial flight. I assume I will book either Jet Blue/Delta to Logan and SATA to Portugal. Flight gets to Logan at 8:20, departs at 10:05. I am not sure how the bags work, I am beginning to think that we will have to pick up the luggage in Logan and that the bags will not transfer automatically.

Yes, you will probably have to transfer the bags yourself. I would leave 2.5 hours to make your transfer, so if your SATA flight departs at 10:05 I'd want to arrive before 7:35.

  • Time for a smoke break?
    May 21, 2014
I have a layover of 1 hour 45 min. between two United Airlines flights. Do I have time to go from concourse B to concourse C and back again.... I'm a smoker and I am wondering if I have time. Thank you!

Yes, if your first flight is on-time you should have enough time to go to concourse C, buy something to drink, have a smoke and go back to B. The underground train connects all concourses inside security.

    Thanks for your help!
