  • enough time to switch and will checked bag make it onto connecting
    Jul 12, 2014
will 40 minutes suffice to switch from domestic to international and will checked bag from domestic flight make it onto connecting international flight in the 40 minutes connection?

That depends on which airlines you use. DTW uses the McNamara Terminal exclusively for Delta, Air France & KLM (members of SkyTeam) and the North Terminal forr non-Skky team members. If you need to transfer between terminals your transfer time would be one hour. Transfer within McNamara should be doable within 40 mins; baggage transfer time no problem. I suggest you open www.ifly.com/dtw, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

  • Cincinnati (CVG) to Detroit Detroit Metro (DTW)
    Jul 14, 2014
I have to say this site so far is the best for information on anything flying. I've been through a lot of sites looking but I found more in 5 min here than I have 3 weeks of searching the net else were. We fly into DET from CVG on Canadair CRJ 900. We'll have 55 min once the plane lands to get to our connecting Delta flight to LAS. My wife and I are in our 60s we are seated at the from of the plane. My questions are is Canadair in the same concourse as Delta and is 55 minutes enough for us to exit the pane and get to our Delta flight. We do not have gates or any more information at this time. I've been looking through the internet to understand where Canadair is compared to the Delta hub at DET. Trying to get an idea if I need to be concerned enough to switch flights or not. We had a direct both ways but have been bounced more times than my sons soccer ball. Thanks for any help I get Mark43551

Thanks you for your vote of confidence! At iFly we work hard to gather timely information. As DET Coleman Young AP has no longer an official site (and Detroit City lists it with address & telephone numbers only) I must assume that you Depart DET by Canadair, arriving at CVG and connecting there to Delta flight to LAS, right? While I have Air Canada listed at CVG as serving Concourse A (I presume this also goes for Canadair), Delta uses Concourse B's gates exclusively (B12-B1 left; B13-39 right. A & B Concourses are parallel-running buildings, reached by shuttle train taking 90 seconds (or by tunnel with walkway). Hope this info helps.

Sajul im sorry I was so confusing, I flying into det on canadair and I want to know how far away the delta terminal is located compared to where we will be when I get off the canadair flight into Detroit mark43551

Please ignore sajul's rambling and confusing and incorrect response. Delta uses DTW, not DET. Canadair is not an airline. It is a type of aircraft. Both of your flights will be on Delta. Both flights will be in the McNamara Terminal at DTW. You should have plenty of time to make your connection. All you have to do at DTW is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Zap my wife and I could not be happier, this is great news. We've been really concerned since we were bumped from the direct flight that we wouldn't make the connecting flight on time. Thanks so much for straightening this out for us Zap

  • Terminal F Shuttle
    Jul 13, 2014
Hi. I'm flying from Turks and Caicos to Baltimore with stops in Miami and Philadelphia. Our flight from Miami lands at 9:45PM in terminal a,b, or c. Our flight to Baltimore leaves at 10:55PM from terminal F. Do the shuttles run at 10PM? Will we have time to catch our connection?

Yes, the shuttles run any time there are still flights waiting to arrive or depart from Terminal F as it is the only way to get to Terminal F. You should have plenty of time if your inbound flight is on-time.

  • Connection time
    Jul 12, 2014
Hi. I have a connection in Miami of 1 hour 35 minutes. I land in terminal D from Providenciales (Turks and Caicos) at 5:03. I have to get through customs, and depart at 6:40 PM to Philadelphia on a flight operated by US Aiways from Terminal E. Do I have enough time? When are the busiest hours at Miami's immigration hall? Thanks.

You arrive at Concourse D of the North Terminal, go through passport check, retrieve bags, go through customs clearance, then re-check-in bag on level 2 from which you connect to your next flight - which is in the Central Terminal, Concourse E - having gates E2-11 on level 2 & satellite gates E20-33 reached from level 4. Your transfer time should suffice. I suggest you open www.ifly.com/mia,then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

Arriving at EWR from Mumbai by UA49 at 5.10 am . Indian passport holder on B1/B2 Visa. Connecting flight to Houston at 7.45 am UA1640 . Is this transit time enough to catch the connecting flight. Will immigration be done at NEWARK OR HOUSTON? DO WE NEED TO COLLECT LUGGAGE EVEN IF THROUGH CHECK IN IS DONE TO HOUSTON? WHAT IS THE PROCESS OF TRANSFER OF LUGGAGE AT EWR?

Yes you have enough transfer time. Your United Airline flight arrives at Terminal C, where you will need to go through immigration process. Thereafter your domestic flight to Houston (IAH or HOU?) could depart either from Terminal C or Terminal A. If departing from Terminal A, United's shuttle bus will take you there. For detailed international arrivals and terminals at EWR, I suggest you open www.ifly.com/ewr, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

Thanks for the update. It is for IAH and mostly from Terminal C. Do we need to collect the baggage at EWR and Re check in for IAH even though it is through check in done at Mumbai?

The immigration process involves passport control, pickup of bags, going through customs clearance & re-check-in bags where indicated. (This is separat from 're-check-in bags thereafter applying to passengers which have bought either two separate tickets, or their incoming airlines does not transfer bags to your next flight - in which cases they would have to take their bags to the connecting terminal & re-check it in there. )

Both of your flights will be in Terminal C. You can re-check your bags with United right after you clear customs. They will already be tagged through to Houston but you have to claim them to go through US Customs in Newark.

  • Luggage pick up when transferring flights
    Jul 12, 2014
We are flying from San Francisco to Paris and switching planes to Barcelona. Will we have to collect our checked luggage in Paris and recheck it in or will it go straight to Barcelona? Thanks!

You arrive at Barcelona El Prat as a non-Schengen (foreign) arrival, needing to go through passport check, pick up bags, go through customs clearance & re-check-in bags where indicated; then proceed to your connecting gate. On arrival at CDG, you will be Schengen (domestic) arrival. For more terminal & transfer info, open www.ifly.com/bcn, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

  • Passport control in FCO?
    Jul 12, 2014
I will be connecting in Rome after departing Palermo and will continue to LAX. Will I need to go through passport control in Rome? If so, is 1 hour an adequate connection (both flights are on Alitalia)?

You will be a 'Schengen' (domestic) arrival at FCO. You are an international arrival at LAX & will need to go through passport check, pick up bags, go through customs clearance, before entering the arrivals hall.

  • changing terminals from domestic flight to international
    Jul 13, 2014
Flying into Chicago from Denver and need to change planes for international flight. Do I have to go through security again and how do I know which terminal I will land at and which one I need to leave from?

Your arrival & departure at ORD depends on which airline(s) you take. I suggest you open www.ifly.com/ord, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text listing terminals, their airlines and how to connect.

JB, what airlines are you flying and where are you flying to?

  • Connecting Terminal to B from Glasgow to orlando via Philly
    Jul 15, 2014
ARriving from glasgow on 24th July for connecting flight to Orlando. Arriving 1.00 pm departing 4.00 pm. Is this enough time and do we have to pick up luggage or can it be booked straight through from Glasgow.

You have plenty of transfer time. For international arrivals procedure, terminal details & transfer options, I suggest you open www.ifly.com/phl, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

You will have to pick up your luggage after clearing US Immigration, go through US Customs, and then re-check your bags with US Airways.

Thank you for reply this is helpful. After reading the reviews on delays getting through customs on arrival, I just wasn't sure.

  • 90min layover international flight T3 to T5
    Jul 12, 2014
Hi, I'm an european citizen flying from Madrid to Indianapolis via Chicago (90min layover). I have to go from T5 to T3. Will the time will be enough? (plane arrives at noon). And do I have to claim my luggage and re-checked it? The first flight is operated by Iberia, and to Indianapolis by AA. Thanks!

On Arrival at Terminal 5 of ORD you need to go through passport check, retrieve checked bags, go through customs clearance and - if transferring to another flight - re-check-in bag; then proceed up one level to the Airport Transit System (ATS) station and take the ATS train, which runs every few minutes, to Terminal 3, where you need to go through security check before proceeding to your connecting gate. No time to waste!

  • Connection from T3 to T1 at FCO with one baggage for Check-in
    Jul 12, 2014
I am landing from Delhi by Air India at 1905 hours at T3. I have connecting flight of Alitalia from T1 to Barcelona at 2120 hours. I have in hand one piece of baggage in Air India flight, which is to be checked-in on Alitalia flight to Barcelona at FCO airport. I need your urgent help to guide me. Firstly how to proceed at FCO T3 after Immigration Check for T1 departure. (by walk or some free shuttle bus or train/tube) Secondly, where I have to give one piece of checked-in baggage. Will there be any Alitalia transfer check-in counter at T3 or I have to carry bag and go and give at T1 check-in counter. PLEASE ASSIST AND GUIDE.

First, I assure you that you have enough transfer time - even if you need to collect & re-check-in your bags. If you bought both legs of the journey on one ticket, or your India-departing airline will make baggage transfer to your Alialia flight (check first) - all you need to do after immigration procedure is to watch signs to 'Boarding Area' (T1 has Boarding Area B: gates B1-B30 (B14-B23 on ground level, & B27-B30 (by escalator); and B1-B13 on first level). All boarding areas are connected. NOTE: If your first airline does not transfer bags to your second one, you need to claim your bags & re-check them in with Alitalia at T1.

  • 90 minutes for transfer
    Jul 10, 2014
We will arrive at ORD T5 on Aug 9 at 7AM by flight AI127 from India and take AA1597 at 9AM from T3 for Mexico City. The airline ticketing office thinks its enough time for customs and transfer.I am quite worried about the short time for transfer. Any suggestions please!

Yes, this should be enough time. Immigration is not busy early in the morning. You can also check in for your AA flight online before you leave India.

Thank a lot! I am much relieved now.

  • AMS - IAH - AUS
    Jul 10, 2014
I'm flying from Amsterdam through Houston to Austin. What's the least amount of time I need to get through customs to my connecting flight? Thanks!

90 minutes is the minimum intl -> domestic connection time at IAH.

  • Security check required at T1?
    Jul 10, 2014
I am traveling from Canada to China and stopping at the U.S. My plane lands at T1 and the other plane takes off at T1. Will I have to take my baggage with me and do I have to go through security check?

Where in Canada are you coming from? If it is somewhere with US Immigration preclearance you will only have to go from your arrival gate to your departure gate, nothing with security or your baggage. However if you're coming from somewhere without preclearance (London, Regina, Quebec City) then you will actually arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags with United, then take the ATS train to T1 and go through security.

Thank you for your reply. I'm coming from Toronto. So does that mean I don't have to go through all the security?

  • Connecting
    Jul 10, 2014
I have a very short time between my connection, so short that it was bought as 2 separate tickets because any airline would not advise such a short time between connections. But I have to risk it because I am trying to make a deadline. Anyway i know I arrive at terminal D from one flight, and then have to catch my next one at terminal. Can one walk between the 2 terminals or do you have to get a shuttle? Thanks in advance as I'm sure this question has been asked several times

It's difficult to walk between terminals but not impossible. Good luck. Check in for all your flights online before you leave.
