  • Connection Time Concern
    Jun 20, 2014
We are flying from Indy to an ultimate destination of Cape Town. First leg of flight is fromIndy to Charlotte, then a connecting flight from Charlotte to JFK. We only have 45 minutes to change planes at Charlotte. Is this enough time? Do we need to recheck baggage?

Yes, that should be enough time. No you do not have to re-check baggage.

Yes, if your first flight is on-time you should be OK. CLT is relatively small by hub airport standards and all gates are connected inside security.

  • Air Tahiti Nui to/from Southwest
    May 27, 2014
We arrive in LAX via Air Tahiti Nui at 10:15 with a connecting flight on SWA at 1:50. Unfamiliar with the process from Tahiti, have I given myself enough time for the entire process? Thank you!

Yes, you should have plenty of time. You will arrive in the TBIT, go through US Immigration, claim your baggage, and go through US Customs. Then you will have to take your baggage with you to T1 either via the inter-terminal shuttle bus that runs on the lower level or via walking along the curbfront on either the upper or lower level. You would walk to the left as you exit the TBIT (against the flow of traffic). You will then have to check your bags with Southwest, get your Southwest boarding passes, and go through security.

  • layover time
    May 27, 2014
I am flying with an infant coming from Cleveland with and 1 hour layover in iad on our way to stbthomas. Both flights are with united. Will one hour be enough to get to my connecting flight?

Yes, that should be enough time. You will arrive in Concourse A, C, or D and depart from C or D. If you arrive in A you will have to take the aerotrain or mobile lounge to C or D.

  • Don't know which terminal?
    Jun 4, 2014
I am flying Delta Airlines, from Orlando to Springfield through Atlanta. I have 53 min layover on my way going and 42 min on my return. Any idea about the terminal route? Departure: MCO>ATL (DL2269) ATL>SGF (DL5056) Return: ATL>SGF (DL5056) MCO>ATL (DL2269)

Delta uses numerous concourses which are all connected by the Plane Train inside security. You can get between all gates in less than 25 minutes. You don't have much room for delays but if your first flight is on-time you should be fine.

    Should be fine

  • Connecting flight
    May 26, 2014
I am flying from Trinidad to orlando via American Airlines, there's a connection in Miami. The layover is about 2 hours, however the ticket was purchased as one ticket on AA website(I didn't book each flight separately). I know I will be pressed for time. Can anybody explain to me the procedure with regards to collecting and checking in baggage and immigration and security?

You will arrive, be funneled towards immigration, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the re-check desk with American. Then you will go up to the departure level and go through security and to your departure gate which will be in the same terminal.

  • Where do I spend time in Customs?
    May 26, 2014
Hello, I fly tomorrow from Portland ME to DTW Airport and transfer to a Toronto flight. Is my first travel leg considered national or international? Will I need to allow time in Portland to go through customs or will that all happen in Detroit where I have a 45 min connection time.

You will go through Canadian immigration when you get to Toronto. All you have to do in DTW is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Connections - Terminal 4 to 7
    May 26, 2014
Hello - I arrive terminal 4 at 555 on Virgin America and then leave 815am British Airways from Terminal 7 - is this going to be enough time. I will not have any checked bags. Thank you

Yes, if your first flight is on-time that should be enough time. You will just have to take the AirTrain from T4 to T7, get your BA boarding pass, and go through security.

Thank you - what do you think is the latest that flight can get in for me to make the flight. I have to be home for something very important. Also my flight with BA is international - does this affect it?

I think if your first flight gets to the gate by 6:45 you'd be OK.

I'm flying from Brazil to Mexican via United Airlines by IAH. I arrive at TE/IAH and I will leave to Aguascalientes/MX by the TE/IAH. Will I need to re-check in my luggage at IAH and to go through immigration check and check in IAH or I can wait the flight to Aguascalientes in TE?

You will have to go through US Immigration, claim your luggage, go through US customs, and then re-check your bags. Then you will go through Security and to your departure gate. However, your flight to Aguascalientes will not depart from Terminal E, it will depart from Terminal B. The TerminaLink train connects all terminals inside security.

  • RIC to BOS to LHR, 42 min layover
    May 26, 2014
Hi, I'm flying RIC to BOS and then have only 42 minutes before my flight to LHR. I don't fly much, so I didn't pay attention to that short layover, but now I'm worried. Is there a chance this is enough time? Both my flight arriving in BOS and flight leaving to LHR are in terminal A; will I need to pass through security again? I haven't packed yet but am trying to make it will no checked bags, just a carry-on. Thanks...

And both flights are through Delta...

At BOS Delta uses Terminal A for all but its international arrivals. TA's main terminal has departure gates A1-A12 and a Satellite with gates A13-A22, both of which are connected via underground walkway. you have enough transfer time.

  • Terminal Connection: time for layover
    May 26, 2014
Dear Sir or Madam, I am arriving in DTW from LAX by DELTA 539 and have to change the plane to DELTA 1088 to New York, EWR. I have only 40 minutes on order to change a plane and I wonder if I should go through any checking or custom? Additionally, will my checked in bags forwarded or I have to do that by myself? Thank you very much in advance for your help.

You arrive at DTW at the McNamara Terminal, which has Concourses & gates A, B & C. A tunnel connects in the center between Concourse A (near gate 38) and Concourses B & C (at Gates C1 of the lower level). Follow signs. Only international arrivals at US Airports need to go through customs clearance. Your bags will be checked through. Your transfer time should suffice.

  • DELTA - international to domestic
    May 26, 2014
Hi, If arriving on Delta DL219 from Copenhagen at 2.45 pm (June 5), can I make a Delta flight (DL2901) to Detroit at 4.15 (90 min)? Will my baggage make it? In case of a delay, what's the absolute minimum transfer time needed? Don't know which terminals. Thanx

You arrive at Terminal 4 (T4) of JFK, where you need to go through passport check, pick up your bags, go through customs clearance & re-check-in your bags where indicated. Thereafter, Delta's continuously running shuttle bus runs between gates B23 of T4 and C60 of T2- no need for security check - add about 12 minutes of transfer time.

Thanks. But in case of a delayed arrival, what's the absolute minimum transfer time needed? For me? And for my baggage?

It will be tough to make your connection - right now it is a the minimum connection time. You will arrive in Terminal 4, go through US Immigration, claim your baggage, go through US Customs, then re-check it. Then you will take the AirTrain/Air Terminals train from T4 to T2, go through security, and to your departure gate. momay is incorrect when he says there is no security check.

  • OMA-ATL-UVF 45 minutes
    May 26, 2014
I have 45 minutes to connect from my delta flight from omaha, ne to my delta flight that goes to st. lucia. This is for my honeymoon and we are very nervous we wont make our flight to st. lucia! It is the only flight to st. lucia that day...the next one isnt for 24 hrs. Is 45 minutes enough time? We bought the flights on the same ticket with delta, do you think we will be at gates that are close to one another or very far? If far, what is the longest time it would take us to get from one end to another? Thanks!

Delta uses all domestic Concourses T & A through D, with corresponding gates. All international flights are at the International 'Maynard Jackson' Terminal with Concourses/ gates E or F - reached by the underground Plane Train which stops at the center of each Concourse. Absent incoming flight delay, you should be able to make your connection and your bags will be automatically transferred. To familiarize yourself with ATL's layout, I suggest you open www.ifly.com/atl, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

  • Delta - domestic to international
    May 26, 2014
Hi, Looking at a connection from DTW to Copenhagen, Denmark on Sunday eve, June 22. Both Delta flights. Arrive 7.33 Depart 8.40. Is that really enough time? If there's a delay, what's the absolute minimum transfer time needed? Is there passport check on departure? Thanx

It's barely enough time. There will be no passport check. You will arrive in Terminal 2 and have to take Delta's shuttle bus which runs inside security to Terminal 4.

Thank you, ZAP. Can you also answer my question about Delta international to domestic? The answer I got from momay wasn't really complete. Thanx

i have a flight connecting flight from montego bay jamaica to jfk and the switch over time is 1 hr and 40 minuites on american airlines...is that enough time

At MIA, American Airlines uses both Concourses D & E of the North Terminal with corresponding gates. On arrival at MIA you need to go through international arrivals procedures. I suggest you open www.ifly.com/mia, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.
