  • Security between C and B?
    Dec 11, 2012
    2
Trying to judge a quick transfer between Concourses C and B. Arriving in C and departing out of B, do I have to go through security? If so, where, and any idea of how busy it is around Sunday 9AM?

    1. The Jeppesen Terminal has, past security check, Concourses A, B & C each with access to the gates. On arrival at Concourse C, walk towards the exit of the concourse, then walk over to Concourse B, wich has gates west B15 to B37; gates east B38 to B60, branching into north gates B59 to B79, and south gates B80 to B95. Sunday morning is usually not that crowded.

I am flying in on United, presumably to Concourse C. Two questions: 1. I can walk to Concourse B, or do I have to take the train? (which is faster?) 2. Is there a Security Check going into Concourse B? (Sorry- just trying to be clear)

we arrive from Bordeaux France and have 55 minutes to make a connecting flight to the US. Which concourse will we arrive on Delta and which concourse leaves for Minneapolis. Will we be able to make our connection

You will have to go through passport control, & may have to pick up bags & go through customs clearance. Note that Arrivals 1 & 2 areas lead up to Departures 1 & 2; and Arrivals 3 & 4 lead up to Departure 3. Departures 1 uses the B & D gates; Departures 2 uses the E gates; Departure 3 uses F, G, H & M gates. (Arrivals 1 & 2 and Arrivals 3 & 4 are on opposite sides of the center.) Walking time from the entry of B or C gates all the way over to the entry of G, H or M gates would take about 15 mins. The overhead screens (and your boarding pass) will indicate connecting gate. At MSP, Delta uses Terminal 1's Concourses A - G with corresponding gate number. You should arrive at the Interantinal Concourge G (gates 1-22).

At IAH, the TerminaLink train runs between the Terminals in their secured area. Follow signs. Terminal E's gateway has gates E1-E11 & E12-24 on either side. Hurry!

I am connecting in DFW from CLT. I have 2 hours and 15 minutes layover. Will that be enough time to get from one terminal to the other.

Yes, that is plenty of time - all terminals in DFW are connected past security.

  • Tel Aviv to JFK to Barbados (Bridgetown)

I am taking an El Al flight to JFK that gets into Terminal 4 and then I will take another international flight to Bridgetown on American Airlines that leaves from Terminal 8. Will I (an American citizen) or my boyfriend (an Israeli citizen) have to go through customs while we are in JFK? How do we make sure our bags go all the way through?

All international arrivals at US airports, regardless of citizenship, need to go through passport control, pick up bags, go through customs clearance (where indicated) and - if continuing journey - re-check-in bags. You need to find out if El Al will transfer bags to AA connecting flight - if not, you need, after customs clearance, take your bag along and check it in at T8's Departure Level, at the AA counter. In either case you will transfer via Airtrain serving all terminals and coming around every 8 mins on average. The Airtrain (follow signs) serves only pre-security areas - at T8 you need to go through security check before proceeding to your gate.

This is true even if we are only landing in JFK to switch to another international flight out of the United States?

Yes, everybody coming into the US on an international flight has to clear immigration & customs

  • Transit visa
    Dec 10, 2012

My son will take a flight from Toronto to Doha-Qatar by AA and will have a connection flight in JFK where he will arrive at terminal 8 and leave from terminal 4. Does he need a transit visa?

At Toronto Pierson Airport he should go through US customs clearance. At JFK, on arrival, he needs to follow "Airtrain" sign which connects all JFK terminals in the non-secured areas. On arrival at T4, he needs to go through security check before proceeding to his connecting gate. He needs to make sure that AA will transfer bags to connecting airline, if he uses a different one (Qatar?), if not, he would need to take his bags along and check them in at T4 before proceeding to security check and gate.

Thanks, so no transit visa is required. Do he have to pay for "Airtrain" or it is free service?

  • Houston to sa jose connection 31 min ?
    Dec 8, 2012

We are coming in from Chicago via United and need to connect for flight to San Jose. We only have a 31 min connection time. Flight from Chicago is UA435, Flight from Houston to San Jose is UA1055. Do you have any suggestions for us to ensure we catch our flight from houston to San Jose? Should we take the train or walk to terminal?

Your transfer time does not allow for any incoming delay! Hurry! United uses Terminals A, B & E. (Note there are three San Jose Airports - yours is SJO). Could not get today's arrivals for incoming flight, but your departure to SJO is at Terminal E, at E gates. On arrival follow signs to the above-ground TerminaLink train, which starts its service at the Terminal A station, connects terminals A, B, C, D/E. NOTE: Terminal E has basically three separate buildings: (a) If you get off the TerminaLink, you find the ticketing area to the right; this area also has an escalator to Level 1, International Arrivals, which has in the lobby a passenger greeting area. Once you get through security check on either side, you can proceed to the gate area. The left-side gateway extension has gates E1 through gates E11, while to the right are gates E12 to E24.

  • Connect SW to Alaska Air Mexico Flight
    Dec 10, 2012
    2
Connecting from SW-terminal 1 to Alaska Air Mexico flight-I think terminal 6. Will I have to get bags and recheck internationally? How do I get from Terminal 1 to terminal 6? Is there a walkway available?

    1. Only international arrivals at US airports need to go through customs clearance process. 2. If SW transfers bags to your Alaska flight, you can walk between Terminals T1 & T7 by using the cross road between the parking structures; in the center of this walkway is access to the round 'Theme Building') - if SW does not transfer your bags, you need to claim them at T1 - and take either a cart outside and walk over to T7-T6 (both connected via escalators on their ground level by a tunnel) or take bag on the shuttle bus - LAX bus Route A on lower arrival level island in front of each terminal, under sign 'LAX shuttle airline connection', running every 12-15 mins. Your next stops would be T2, T3, TIBIT, on to T4, T5, T6 - six stops or 15 mins.

Southwest will not transfer your bags. You will have to claim them and re-check them with Alaska.

  • Time needed betw non connected flights

I arrive at FCO at 10.00 with Aegean airlines, then getting an Aer Lingus flight to Dublin at 12.05.As I've seen, these airlines are both in Terminal 3 but the flights are not connected. What's the procedure? Do I have to take my baggage at the baggage reclaim, then get out from the arrival area and check in for the second flight,or do I just follow signs and get transferred? are 2 hours enough for the whole procedure?

Yes both Aegean and Aer Lingus use Terminal 3 at FCO, which is the largest of the terminals with gates D1-10, G1-14 & H6-19. You need to go through non-Schengen (foreign) passport control and, if Aegean does not transfer your bags to your departing Dublin flight, you need to claim your bags and check them in with Aer Lingus, then go through security check and on to your connecting gate. You have enough time.

  • JetBlue to United Airlines
    Dec 8, 2012

I have an incoming flight from Buffalo (JetBlue) and outgoing to San Francisco (United) - what is the best transfer route?

At JFK, JetBlue uses both Terminals 4 & 5, while United uses Terminal 7. T4 has Concourse A, gates A2-7, and Concourse B,gates B20-30 and an inside AirTrain station. T5 has 25 gates (no concourses). T7 has on its Concourse level 12 gates surrounding it. On arrival at JFK, follow the Airtrain sign and take it to Terminal 7. There you need to go through security check before proceeding to your gate. CHECK with JetBlue if they transfer your bags to United flight - if not you need to claim your bag on arrival and take it with you to T7, & check it in with United.

I'm flying from SEA to STL on Alaska Air - connecting to Cape Air to UIN. What is the process? Gates, shuttles - in / out ??

At STL, both airlines use Terminal 1 - Alaska uses Concourse A (A gates) and Cape Air uses Concourse C (C gates). Look at overhead screens for your connecting flight and gate numbers.
