  • 1 hour connection and pick up infant

Hello, I am dropping my baby off at his grandparents and trying to pick him back up during a 1 hour layover on UAL from PHX to IAD to BOS. Obviously, I'm quite concerned about being able to exit the terminal get to the main terminal, pick up my son and get back through security in time to make the flight in less than an hour. Do they still issue gate passes so his grandparents can meet me at the gate with him? Any other suggestions? Thanks!

They usually only issue gate passes to people dropping off or picking up children or handicapped persons. You should have allowed yourself more time.

I am arriving in ewr on 02/02/14 from BHX on flight UA 26 and connecting with flight UA 1600 to LAX do I need to reclaim baggage then re check in

Yes, you will claim your bags after you go through immigration, then go through customs, then re-check them at the re-check desk. You will then go up to the departure level and go back through security and to your departure gate.

    Thank you

International arrivals at EWR need to go through passport check, pick up their bags, go through customs clearance & if continuing journey re-check-in their bag where indicated. Note that United uses Terminal C for all international flights, as well as some domestic flights, and uses some other domestic flights at Terminal A. If your connecting flight is at Terminal A, you get a shuttle running outside the C gates to the A gates (no need for security check). For details I suggest you open www.ifly.com/ewr then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

Both of your flights will be in Terminal C.

I am looking to travel on United Airlines from Tampa to Houston then take another United flight to Narita Japan. The connection time from landing in Houston to departing to Narita is one hour and 17 minutes. Is that enough time. Will I arrive and depart from Terminal E?

You will likely arrive in C and depart from E (although there's a chance you could arrive in E). You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time as C and E are connected directly.

I arrive on a 4:58 to Terminal A and depart at 5:40 in Terminal E. Do I have enough time to make this flight? Both flights are with the same airline.

If your first flight is on-time you'll have enough time, barely. The TerminaLink train connects all terminals inside security.

Hi! I am flying for the first time in one month and have a few questions about what will happen during my layover that may seem silly. I am flying from Toronto Pearson (YYZ) to LAX with American Airlines then from LAX to Brisbane (BNE) with Quantas. I arrive at Terminal 4 at 9:15 on a Sunday and depart from Terminal 4 at 11:50 the same evening. My first question: What do I do when I get off the plane at LAX? Do I go through immigration, collect my checked bags, clear customs, re enter the terminal, check in and go through security all over again? If this is so then I am worried I did not leave enough time between the flights? Thank you in advance for any advice, I am getting a quite nervous.

You will pre-clear US Immigration in Toronto. At LAX all you will have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate, which as you mention, will both be in the same terminal. You should have plenty of time.

  • 1h 10m Connection time with smaller kids

Hi, we are planning a trip with 2 kids (2 and 6 years) from Zuerich to San Francisco. There is a flight with KLM Cityhopper arriving in Schiphol at 8:40 with the KLM Connection flight leaving at 9:50 (e.g. 1h10m time). Is this too big a risk to take? Usually international flights board 40min ahead, will that be a problem? Thank you for your help!

Since the earlier flight is an easy option I would probably do that, although the later flight would probably be OK.

Is 1 hour enough time to get to my flight on Air Canada going to Calgary from my flight on Luftansana from Budapest? I can't walk very fast and I'm concerned that I'll miss my connection.

You should have enough time - all you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate and through security at your gate.

    wtf is luftansana???

We will arrive with a Child at terminal t7 Gate 76. with united from London. And After 2,5 hours Domestik flight with united to hawai from terminal t6. Do we have to pickup the laggage and go through Customs and Check again ? Or the united Airline will Take care of laggage Transfer to Domestik flight?how to handle the?

Yes, on arrival at LAX you need to go through passport check, retrieve checked bags, go through customs clearance and - if transferring to another flight - re-check-in bag. Terminals 6 & 7 are connected at their secured areas - proceed to security check with your boarding pass to Hawaii and follow signs to T6 with gates 60 to 62, followed by gates 64A -65B & gates 66 -69B.

Never been to LaGuardia before. Can see that Southwest and American both use the "Central" terminal. Do all flights arriving at the central terminal use the same baggage claim area? I will be arriving 30 minutes earlier than my friend and I want to have some idea of where we should meet. Thanks.

Central Terminal is Terminal B - SW uses B gates, AA uses C gates (Concourses A & C); You can wait on the Arrivals level which has a food court in the center and Info counters on each side.

They are at opposite ends of the Central Terminal. It is walkable but sometimes you have to go outside and walk along the lower level curbfront to get between the sections of the lower level.

  • Domestic to international connection
    Jan 11, 2014

Hi I have 1 hour between a domestic flight of Virgin America to taking an international flight by Delta Air. Is 1 hour sufficient to take the flight?

It is not possible if you have checked baggage to transfer. Delta and Virgin America do not have an interline baggage agreement, so you would have to move bags between airlines yourself and go through security, you won't have enough time to do that. Even without checked baggage it will be very difficult. You will have to change one of your flights.

  • Dusseldorf Tampa Malpensa

Hi, I'm flying A) On JEN/22/2014 From Dusseldorf (Germany) LH408 EWR 3:05pm Terminal B To Tampa LH 7772 Operated United Airlines 5:35pm Terminal C What to do? Clear immigration, custom, security in TB and then to go in TC by Airtrain (or United Shuttle bus?)? I don't have checked baggage just a carry-on luggage. B) On JEN/26/2014 From Tampa UA 1027 EWR 4:49pm Terminal C To Malpensa (Italy) UA19 EWR 6:35 Terminal C What to do? Thanks in advance for your advice. CP

On your trip to Tampa you will clear US Immigration and customs, then it would be fastest to take the AirTrain to Terminal C where you will go through security and to your gate. On your way to Milan you will only have to go from your arrival gate to your departure gate in Terminal C, which are all connected beyond security.

Very helpfull thank You very much ZAP! CP

  • sufficient layover?

Arriving in Denver from Sacramento on UAL410, connecting thru to Winnipeg on UAL5238. One hour layover. Is this enough time, and will luggage be checked thru to Winnipeg?

Yes, your baggage will be checked through to Winnipeg so all you will have to do in Denver is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate, which will both be on Concourse B. If your flight from Sacramento is on-time you'll have plenty of time.

  • Unrealistic Connection Time?
    Jan 10, 2014

I booked a flight on United (using miles) travelling from Cancun to San Diego with a layover in IAH. I am travelling with my wife and two small children. When I originally booked the ticket (several months ago) I had a layover of just over 2 hours. In the last week, United changed the schedule and put us on new flights giving us an hour and ten minutes. I checked United's schedules and if we miss our connection, we will be stuck in IAH overnight. Considering customs/immigration/kids/luggage, is this remotely possible? Also, do I have any recourse with United as far as changing my flight? Thanks!

Yes. Since there was an involuntary schedule change you can call united and ask for an earlier flight out of Cancun or a connection in another city. 70 mins on any intl-domestic connection is pushing what is possible.

  • Why Did Security Take My Ham Sandwiches?
    Jan 10, 2014
    1
Recently my wife and I were transiting LAX via Alaska Airlines from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to Vancouver, Canada. We went through customs at Tom Bradley, picked up our baggage and proceeded to drop off our baggage for the flight from LAX to Vancouver. We had to pass through Customs one last time to hand in our declaration and were asked if we were bringing back any fruits etc,. We said no just our lunch. The Officier asked what kind and I responded, 3 ham and cheese sandwiches. He marked and circled 3A on our declaration and told us we had to go through another baggage screening and also give up our 3 ham and cheese sandwiches. I would add here all officiers were very polite. What I don't understand is why we had to give oup our 3 ham and cheese sandwiches?

Because you're not allowed to bring meat into the US from abroad: https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/82/~/travelers-bringing-food-into-the-u.s.-for-personal-use
