  • Connection from T3 to T1 and chech in bags

I am landing from Tunis by Alitalia at 13h45. I have connecting flight of Alitalia from T1 to venise at 17h45 For my bags I need to know if I have to carry them for the check-in at T1or Alitalia will do the transfer of my bags to the next flight.

You will not have to carry your checked bags from T3 to T1.

  • A (West) to F, no checked in luggage
    Jul 15, 2014

Hi, I'm flying from London to Montreal with a layover of 2 hours in Philadelphia. I have no checked in luggage. I was wondering if I can take the shuttle from A1 to F without first going into security on arrival? I'm not very clear, but it sounds like I have to queue up for security at entry to Terminal F anyway. Please could someone help me understand the mechanics here, many thanks.

Upon arrival in PHL, you will have to go through US Immigration and US Customs, then go to the departure level and through security and then take the shuttle bus to Terminal F. There is actually no security at Terminal F, the only way to access it is by the secure-side shuttle buses from the other terminals. You have to go through US Immigration and customs when connecting in the US, there's no way around that.

  • Short Connection Concern
    Jul 14, 2014

I'm arriving in IAD from NRT at 3:45pm and to connect at 4:55pm to RDU. Even though they say it's a legal connection, I'm quite concerned I will miss this flight. My seat is also at the very back of the plane. Any help to my situation if I upgrade to economy plus?

1 hr 10 minutes is not a legal International -> Domestic connection length. You need to ask to be rebooked either on a later flight to RDU or over a different United hub such as ORD, SFO, or EWR.

I am scheduled to arrive at IAD at 3:45pm on a United flight from Tokyo (NRT). My connecting flight (United) from IAD to Boston Logan is scheduled to depart at 5:05pm. Is 1 hr 20 min enough to time to clear immigration/customs and make my connecting flight?

It is possible. However that is prime arrival time into IAD and 1 hr 20 minutes is below the Minimum Intl->Domestic connection time. So it is a bit risky.

Interesting. My husband booked same flight to IAD w/ same departure time (to BTV - Vermont). I asked about the itinerary, also concerned about connections, and United Airlines assured me it is well within "legal" connection times.

Regarding IAD connection -- we also considered changing flight through ORD, buys us an extra 45 minutes, BUT change fee is $300. I wish I knew what United is looking at when they say within legal time limits -- I'm not familiar with Minimum Intl>Domestic connection times, but I think they should be. It will be cheaper to book hotel than change ticket.

We are family of 4 and travelling from CLT to Doha via PHL. The US Airways from CLT is scheduled to arrive PHL 9.10 and the connecting flight, Qatar Airways, is at 10.25. Do we need to recheck in our checked in baggage in PHL? Is the transit time 1 hour is sufficient?

No you will not have to do anything with your baggage, all you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate which will be connected inside security. 1 hr should be plenty of time.

  • Arrival from Canada (Alaskan) connection on to Emirates (Intl. flight)
    Jul 14, 2014

I arrive at SeaTac at 2:20pm from Victoria, BC and my next flight is Emirates departing at 5:45pm which gives me about 3hrs in transit. Do I need to claim baggage after arrival in SeaTac and go through Passport control and recheck the baggage to Emirates? Do both airlines operate on the same Terminal (south) since both are International flights? Which are my arrival and departure terminals? Will I have to switch terminals? Your help in clarifying this is much appreciated.

Yes, you will have to claim your baggage, to go through US Customs, then take it to the main Terminal and check it with Emirates. You will have to go to the main Terminal to re-check your bags with Emirates and get your Emirates boarding pass. The S Satellite is not a terminal, it's just a gate area with immigration facilities.

Thanks. So the emirates check-in is in the Main terminal. How long is the commute there? If my baggage is tagged all the way to my Final destination, do i still need to claim and re check it? thanks

The train to the main terminal after you clear US Immigration is maybe 5 minutes. Yes, you will still need to claim your baggage to go through US Customs, but you should be able to re-check it immediately afterwards if it is tagged through to your final destination, meaning if you already have your Emirates boarding pass you won't have to go to the main terminal. However, if you don't have your Emirates boarding pass, you will have to go to the main terminal to get it.

  • From PDX to Brazil via ORD

Hi, I'm flying UNITED from Portland to ORD - arriving at 7:45 pm and departure to Brazil at 9:25 pm. I'm a bit nervous about the transit time. Any idea in which terminal is the arrival / departure and if I need to go through customs? Thank you.

You will both arrive and depart from Terminal 1. All T1 gates are connected inside security. You do not have to go through US Customs when leaving the US. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You should have plenty of time.

  • Transfer and Checked in Luggages
    Jul 14, 2014

We will arrive at ORD on Aug 1 at 14:00 by flight QR 721 from India and taking connecting flight AA4272 at 18:35 for Cleveland. The airline ticketing office thinks its enough time for customs and transfer.I am quite worried about the short time for transfer. Also My Checked In lugguage will be automatically placed on the next flight or do I need to claim the luggages at ORD and need to go to AA Terminal? Any suggestions please!

You should have enough time. You will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your baggage, go through US customs. Your bags should be already tagged through to CLE. If so, you can re-check at the transfer desk after you exit customs. Then you will take the ATS Train to Terminal 3, go through security, and to your departure gate.

Hi Zap,Thanks forthe reply, How far is the Transfer Desk is (where we are going to re-checking the luggage in ORD) from US Customs?

It's directly after you exit Customs, still on the lower level of Terminal 5.

  • From US to Amsterdam to Amman
    Jul 13, 2014

I will be traveling from US to Amman through Amsterdam, and the flight is as the following: US to Amsterdam (Delta) Amsterdam to Amman (Royal Jordanian) My question is,, will i need to collect my luggage? since its 2 different flights? or do they have some kind of agreement to do it directly? And if i needed to collect my luggage , will i need to go thorough immigration process? or there will be some other place to collect the luggage for non Visa holders? Im Jordanian, and i dont hold a Visa to Europe, as i was told that i dont need a visa as long as im staying at the airport for a flight change. Hope i get an answer Thanks,

If you purchased both flights on one ticket, your bags will automatically be transferred to your connecing Royal Jordanian flight; however, note that Delta & Royal Jordanian do not belong to the same Airline Alliance, therefore, if you bought separate tickets, Delta may not transfer bags (find out from Delta). On arrival at AMS, you need to get into the 'non-Schengen' (foreign) passport line, then pick up your bags, go through customs clearance & re-check-in bags where indicated. If your bags will not be transferred by Delta, go back to the Delta counter at the Departure level and check in your bag before proceeding through security check and gate. Yes, you will not need a Visa for flight change. NOTE: Arrivals 1 & 2 areas lead up to Departures 1 & 2; and Arrivals 3 & 4 lead up to Departure 3. Departures 1 uses the B, C & D gates; Departures 2 uses the E gates; Departure 3 uses F, G, H & M gates. (Arrivals 1 & 2 and Arrivals 3 & 4 are on opposite sides of the center.)

Trying to get from Cancun to Narita with a 1H12M connection in IAH. Will I be able to go from plane to plane without needing to go through any additional screening?

    All on UAL that is.

United Airlines uses Terminal E for both international arrivals & departures. On arrival you need to go through passport check, pick up bags, go through customs clearance, re-check-in bag, proceed to level 2 and clear security, then turn left for E1-24. You have plenty of time for transfer.

Actually, 1 hr 12 minutes is less than the minimum connection time for such a transfer. You should contact your travel agent or United to reschedule. Hopefully there is an earlier flight from Cancun or they can route you through a different United hub.

We arrives in JFK from Orlando by Delta at 3 pm and have a conexion by Tam at 6:15 pm. We have enough time? What are the terminals?

You will arrive at Terminal 2 and will be taking the Delta shuttle bus to Terminal 4 (for Delta international flights) - gate-to-gate - with no need to go through security check

I'm unclear on your post - are you flying TAM, the Brazilian airline? If so they use Terminal 8. Your Delta flight will arrive in Terminal 2 or 4.

I will arrive from MCO Orlando domestic flight at 3 pm and depart to Brazil by TAM at 6:15pm. I have enough time? I'm afraid about terminal charger. Thanks

Yes, that should be enough time. Even if you bought tickets separately, you have enough time to claim your baggage, take it on the AirTrain to T8, and check it with TAM and go through security and to your departure gate.

  • F8 to C11 BTV to ORD

Hi all, I'm arriving from Burlington and landing at ORD in early morning tomorrow at Gate F8. I have roughly one hour to make it for my connecting flight departing at gate C 11. Is there enough time? Thanks, Mike

You arrive at ORD at Terminal 2, Concourse F and need to get to Terminal 1, Concourse C (gates C1-31). T2 & T1 are connected at post-security by walkway - follow signs. You have enough time.

  • enough time to switch and will checked bag make it onto connecting

will 40 minutes suffice to switch from domestic to international and will checked bag from domestic flight make it onto connecting international flight in the 40 minutes connection?

That depends on which airlines you use. DTW uses the McNamara Terminal exclusively for Delta, Air France & KLM (members of SkyTeam) and the North Terminal forr non-Skky team members. If you need to transfer between terminals your transfer time would be one hour. Transfer within McNamara should be doable within 40 mins; baggage transfer time no problem. I suggest you open www.ifly.com/dtw, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

  • Cincinnati (CVG) to Detroit Detroit Metro (DTW)
    Jul 14, 2014

I have to say this site so far is the best for information on anything flying. I've been through a lot of sites looking but I found more in 5 min here than I have 3 weeks of searching the net else were. We fly into DET from CVG on Canadair CRJ 900. We'll have 55 min once the plane lands to get to our connecting Delta flight to LAS. My wife and I are in our 60s we are seated at the from of the plane. My questions are is Canadair in the same concourse as Delta and is 55 minutes enough for us to exit the pane and get to our Delta flight. We do not have gates or any more information at this time. I've been looking through the internet to understand where Canadair is compared to the Delta hub at DET. Trying to get an idea if I need to be concerned enough to switch flights or not. We had a direct both ways but have been bounced more times than my sons soccer ball. Thanks for any help I get Mark43551

Thanks you for your vote of confidence! At iFly we work hard to gather timely information. As DET Coleman Young AP has no longer an official site (and Detroit City lists it with address & telephone numbers only) I must assume that you Depart DET by Canadair, arriving at CVG and connecting there to Delta flight to LAS, right? While I have Air Canada listed at CVG as serving Concourse A (I presume this also goes for Canadair), Delta uses Concourse B's gates exclusively (B12-B1 left; B13-39 right. A & B Concourses are parallel-running buildings, reached by shuttle train taking 90 seconds (or by tunnel with walkway). Hope this info helps.

Sajul im sorry I was so confusing, I flying into det on canadair and I want to know how far away the delta terminal is located compared to where we will be when I get off the canadair flight into Detroit mark43551

Please ignore sajul's rambling and confusing and incorrect response. Delta uses DTW, not DET. Canadair is not an airline. It is a type of aircraft. Both of your flights will be on Delta. Both flights will be in the McNamara Terminal at DTW. You should have plenty of time to make your connection. All you have to do at DTW is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Zap my wife and I could not be happier, this is great news. We've been really concerned since we were bumped from the direct flight that we wouldn't make the connecting flight on time. Thanks so much for straightening this out for us Zap
