  • Picking up a minor at JFK international arrivals

Any suggestions as to where I should pick up my teen age old son after his arrival from Tel Aviv at JFK? Will they let me back to the gate or baggage claim because he is a minor? Who should I contact?

Nobody is allowed into the gate area or baggage claim for international arrivals. You'll have to pick him up at the exit of customs like everybody else.

I'm flying from Caymans into CLT as my first connection thru AA but operated by US Air. Will have have to pay in the CLT airport to have my bags checked in again?

You won't have to pay a second checked bag fee in Charlotte.

  • London to chicago to raleigh, with 2hr time in between the flights

Hi, I am travelling from London to raleigh through chicago ( ORD). I am arriving at terminal 5 in british Airways and have my next flight (AA) from terminal 3? is the connecting time enough? and should I claim my baggage after immigration and go through security check and check in again at terminal 3? or security check is done only at Raleigh?

You will go through US Immigration in Terminal 5, then claim your baggage, go through US Customs, re-check your baggage with American, then take the ATS Train to Terminal 3 and go through security.

I have luggage & carry on--will Jet Blue transfer my luggage, since this was a one price trip From Newark

If you purchased your tickets together your bags will be checked through to your final destination and you won't have to claim them in FLL as JetBlue and Silver Airways have an interline baggage agreement. You, however have to go from Terminal 3 to Terminal 1 for your Silver Airways flight. You can walk along the curbfront or take the rental car shuttle between terminals.

  • If already clearing US customs in Toronto, will have to do again?

I'll be flying into JFK from Toronto to catch a connecting flight to Europe. I will be going through US immigration and customs screening in Toronto, so will I have to do it again before I connect to my international flight? This seems like an awful waste of time!

The whole idea U.S. preclearance in Toronto is to avoid it at U.S. airports! If your connecting flight at JFK is in another terminal, follow the 'Airline Terminals Train' signs & take the train, which runs counter-clockwise in the non-secured areas of each terminal - meaning you need to go through security check before proceeding to your gate.

  • 1hr 35mins enough time to connect from Terminal 5 to 3?

I'll be coming from Madrid Spain arriving 2:30pm in ORD at Terminal 5, then I have to get to Terminal 3 for my connecting flight to Toronto departing 4:05pm. Will I have enough time? I see posts here about a walkway you can use to avoid going through immigration and security again? Is this valid for travel from Terminal 5? I'm not staying in the US so I don't understand the need to go through immigration and security again. And of course I want to get to my gate as quick as possible. I have no checked luggage. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

There is no such walkway - you HAVE to go through US Immigration, go through US Customs, then take the ATS train to Terminal 3 and go through security. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time. Even though you are not staying the US, you still have to go through US Immigration and customs.

Thanks for your reply Zap, much appreciated.

  • Checked luggage between different planes, same airline

I am a novice flyer (never flown), and I switch planes on Frontier in Denver Flight F9 0445 to flight F9 0769 with a 53 minute layover. If I check luggage, am I responsible, or does airline transfer it? Also is 53 minutes long enough to switch planes? Sorry, I have no idea what I'm doing here. Thank you for your help.

The airline will transfer it for you. 53 minutes should be plenty of time. All Frontier flights are on the same concourse in DEN, so you just have a short walk from one gate to the next.

Thank you for your prompt and courteous reply.

HOW DO I GET FROM EWR FLIGHT TO ASPEN FLIGHT

your flight from EWR will arrive in Terminal C and your flight to Aspen will depart from Terminal B or C. If you need to go to Terminal B, the TerminaLink train connects all terminals inside security.

We are transferring from a London-US international flight to a US domestic flight. Is 2.5hours adequate for US immigration, baggage collection and rechecking in, which I assume we will have to do? Any advice on making this as efficient as possible?

Yes, 2.5 hours should be plenty of time. CLT is a very simple airport, just follow the signs.

My concern isn't the "complication" of the airport, it's stuff like US immigration. Sometimes there are terrible delays, and the bags take a while....

My group is meeting at Terminal C before going to check-in...so where do I go? Can I get to the terminal without my ticket?

You can meet in the check-in area of Terminal C. You don't need any documentation to enter the check-in area.

I am travelling from Sydney Australia going to Minneapolis with layover in LAX. Where do I get process for customs LAX or Minneapolis? Do I need to re-checked in for my connecting flight to Minneapolis?

If you bought your flights for both legs of the journey on one ticket, you will only need to re-check in your bags after customs clearance where indicated. If not you would have to take your bags along to the connecting terminal & check it in there. For transfer & terminal info, I suggest you open www.ifly.com/lax, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

You will go through US Immigration and Customs in LAX. I Can help you further with the process if you let us know what airlines you are flying?

Thank you for the reply guys. I am flying Delta Airlines Sydney to Minneapolis. So does this mean I am going to go through customs clearance in LAX and not Minneapolis? Thanks...Cheers!

I will be travelling with my family (5 of us) from KUL-DOH-JFK-MCO with one ticket on Qatar Airways. I arrive in JFK at 1405 and leave to Orlando at 1520 via Terminal 8 on Qatar Airway/American Airlines. MY question is do i need to go thru custom and immigrations at JFK or MCO. Do I have to recheck my luggage? I have to do so will 1hr15min be enough time? Thanks for the reply!

You arrive & depart from Terminall 8 (T8). After passport control, picking up bags at the Arrivals level, going through customs clearance & re-checking bags where indicated, proceed to go through security check, pass restaurants/ shops to Concourse B (gates 1-16, or proceed near gate 14 to Concourse C gates 31-47. Your transfer time should suffice.

Actually 1 hr 15 mins is below the minimum connection time for such a transfer at JFK. You have a chance of making it though. I would still try it.

    Thanks for the prompt reply

Hello. Once we land and leave from T4. Can we leave T4 without having to go through Customs? If so, where are we able to go in the airport? Thank you for your help.

Go through U.S. customs clearance at YYZ, whereupon you will be treated at LAX as 'domestic arrival'. You arrive & depart from Terminal 4, which has gates 42-49.
