I have 2:17 hours before flight to Tel Aviv on US Airway on 5/30. Is there additional time needed for security on Israel bound flights and is that enough time. Arriving from Chicago at Terminal B.

Hello. I am flying from Edmonton airport to Orlando via Dallas. I am wondering if I will need to pick up my baggage and check it again? Also, will I need to go through security after arrival in Dallas? Thanks in advance! :)

No, you will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Edmonton. All you have to do in Dallas is go from your arrival gate to your departure gates. The SkyLink train connects all terminals inside security.

  • International Layover in JFK

I'm flying from Detroit to Frankfurt with a layover in JFK. Same airline. I'm travelling for several months so I have several bags, will I need to recheck bags at JFK? I'm thinking not since I'm originating in the US and have a layover in the US, but can someone weigh in?

No, you do not have to do anything with your bags in JFK.

  • Flight connection

Girlfriend coming thru Chicago connecting to Fargo, 1 hour 41 minute layover, she is not U.S. citizen but has visa, flight is a Friday around 630pm is this enough time, says 4 hours 16 minutes Cabo to ohare that seems to long?

Am I interpreting correct that she is flying Cabo San Lucas to O'Hare then to Fargo? 4 hrs 16 minutes is about the correct length for an SJD-ORD flight. 1 hr 41 minutes is sufficient for the connection. She will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim her bags, go through US Customs, then re-check her bags at the transfer desk, then if she is flying AA to Fargo, will take the ATS Train to Terminal 3. If she is flying United Express to Fargo she needs to check the monitors. If her departure gate is in Concourse B or C she needs to go to Terminal 1, if it's E or F she needs to go to Terminal 2. Then she will go through security and to her gate.

Yes cabo Chicago then fargo, It is american eagle to Fargo, I just flew cabo to Minneapolis and was only 3 and half hours that's why I question the 4 hours 16 minutes.. Thanks

4 hrs 16 minutes includes taxi time as well as a certain amount of "buffer" time so that the flight can arrive on-time even if it leaves a bit late.

  • Connecting flight, 60 min

Hello, im a non American who will be flying from LAX to DFW (with Delta). I will have 60 min until my flight to AMS departs (with KLM). Will this be enough time? Do i have to do anything with my previously checked baggage or they will make sure it goes along with me?

If you purchased your tickets together your bags will be checked through to Amsterdam in LAX and all you have to do in DFW is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You will arrive in Terminal E and depart from Terminal D. They are connected inside security by the SkyLink train. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

  • From Paris to Hong Kong, via EWR. U.S.Customs & immigration required?
    Mar 31, 2015

Hi; I'm arriving to EWR on a flight from Paris. Three hours later I have a connecting flight to Hong Kong. Is there a transit area in EWR where I can bypass immigration and customs (and my bags go through directly to the connecting flight.) Or must I go through immigration, customs, collect my bags and then recheck them? Thanks very much for your help.

You must go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, and re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go through security.

Thank you very much for your prompt reply.

  • 1hr 25mins Layover - Not Sure if Sufficient
    Mar 31, 2015

I am flying from Toronto (YYZ) to Tokyo-Narita (NAR) via ORD. Flight from YYZ on American Eagle lands at ORD at 11h10 and my connecting flight to NAR on Japan Airlines leaves ORD at 12h35. Booked on one ticket. Will have husband and parents on the trip, and they walk slower than I do. Will the timing be sufficient to get from one gate to the other? Also, will we need to pick up and re-check bags on the way? I believe we may need to transfer terminals, though. Thank you kindly!

You have enough time. You will not have to claim your baggage or change terminals. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. All you have to do in Chicago is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal 3.

  • Transfer Question

I am flying in from DC to Sydney. I am flying United from DC to LAX then LAX to Sydney on Quantas. Do I need to pick my bag up from the United Flight before getting my flight to Sydney? I did a package deal and I think I have 1 Ticket. Any ideas?

If everything is booked on one ticket then your bags should be transferred for you. You just need to walk from your arrival in Terminal 7 to the International Terminal, get your Qantas boarding pass if you don't already have it, then go through security.

Thanks just wanted to be sure. Thank you for your help.

  • How to know which terminal arriving and have enough time?
    Mar 31, 2015

Hi! I'll be arriving from Chicago at 8am and leaving at 9am to Nassau. Which terminal will I be arriving and departing and is 58 min enough time? All United flight. And returning its a 2 hour layover. I'm very concerned because it will be first time connecting flights. Please helo

The flight that leaves Chicago at 5 AM and gets into Newark at 8 AM usually arrives in Terminal A. Your flight to Nassau will depart from Terminal C. United operates a shuttle bus inside security between the two terminals. You have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

Thank you so much! WI'll the shuttle be easy to find and get on? It's different from AirTran right?

Yes. the shuttle is different from the AirTrain. The shuttle leaves from near gate A28.

Thank you so much for your help! One more question: I called United today because I just wanted to see if I had any options to change flight or really just to see what they had to say. And she stated that the 5am would arrive in terminal c and that United would never sell tickets with less than an hour connection if the passenger had to change terminals. I stated that from what I've gathered that flight ord-ewr arrives in a. She assured me my flight(June) would be in C. Does United change itinerary schedules frequently? Long story short, there's norhing I can do to change the situation now but what a learning experience it has been. I guess my family will have to learn how to book/travel and now is the time😊. Thank you so much for your guidance and advice

She is wrong. The 5 AM flight commonly arrives in Terminal A. That being said, it is also often early arriving, so that helps.

  • Cruise Transfer and Security Timing

My wife and I will be in Italy for a cruise in June. We can get off the ship and into a cab by about 7:30AM to drive to the airport (budgeting 1.5 hrs). To arrive around 9:00AM. If we have a flight to CPH, Denmark at 11:45, does that give us enough time to go through security and get to the gate? We are Americans and do not have Global Entry. Thank you so much for the help!

Yes, that is PLENTY of time. Italy and Denmark are both in the Schengen Area, there are no border controls and very little security. You could arrive as late as 10:45 and make your flight.

So sorry. Just got an update. So we actually can't get off the ship til 8. And I should have mentioned we fly through LHR. Still ok? THANK YOU!

It should still be enough time. That still has you arriving over 2 hours before your flight.

  • DTW - SEA
    Mar 30, 2015

Im flying from DTW to SEA wednesday. Its a straight flight but im not used to the detroit airport set up like i am to the flint. Im flying thru delta airlines. Can u give a walk through or a map before i go?

The Delta terminal in DTW is very simple. It's easiest to enter it off of I-275 but you can enter off I-94 as well. If you're coming from flint, I-275 is probably easier. It has an arrivals level and a departure level, a large check in hall on the departure level, then a number of security checkpoints, then there is one long concourse (A) and another building connected to it via a tunnel that contains concourses B and C. Your flight to Seattle will depart from A. If your flight is leaving from a gate at the end of A, you can take a tram down the terminal to save you some walk time, but there is no instance where you HAVE to take the tram. The departure gate monitors at DTW even say whether it is faster to walk or take the tram for each departing flight. Here is a (somewhat cluttered map) of the terminal: http://www.ifly.com/detroit-metropolitian-airport/DTW-McNamara-Terminal Here is Delta's official map http://www.delta.com/content/www/en_US/traveling-with-us/airports-and-aircraft/airports/detroit.html

Thank u. That helps a lot. Next question. Since my flight is at 845 a.m . what time should i show up to the airport?

If you're checking a bag, plan to be at the door at like 7:30, if not, 7:45. If you have to park, add on an extra 20-30 mins.

  • transfer timing from Newark to JFK

Canadian arriving Newark from Calgary on Air Canada 0584, 19:26 on a Thursday night in May. Connecting flight is Lanchile 2531 at 23:55 from JFK ( Never let the 18 yr old book flights without supervision ). Is that going to be enough time? Where do we pick up our baggage in Newark? Is US Customs close by? Best way to transfer to JFK? (prefer fast and direct rather than cheapest way) How long before Lanchile flight do we have to get to their checkin? Thanks! Appreciate any help.

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Calgary, so you can just go directly to the baggage claim in Newark. The fastest route is simply to take a Taxi. It will cost around $100 but it will be the fastest, especially at that time of the evening. If your flight from Calgary is on-time you will be at JFK by 21:30-22:00, which leaves you plenty of time.

Hello! I am flying on United from St. Louis to Newark to Stockholm. I have only an hour and 45 minute layover in Newardk Is that long enough? Will I need to recheck bags? Thank you very much for the assistance.

All you will have to do in Newark is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. If you arrive from STL in Terminal A, United runs a shuttle bus from their gates in Terminal A to where you will depart in Terminal C.
