  • Meeting someone during layover at IAH
    Nov 21, 2014

My friend will be flying on United Airlines from Gulfport, Mississippi to Houston, Texas on December 21. She will fly on flight UA4588. Her flight arrives in Houston at 7:57 AM, and then she will fly out at 11:25 AM that morning. We plan to meet during this time, which is the reason for her long layover. Arriving in Terminal A that morning, where would be the place to meet her at? I will not be going through security as I will not be flying, so I need somewhere to meet that is outside security. She will need to head back through security and get to Terminal B to catch her departing flight. I have 2 questions: a) Where does she go after arriving in Terminal A to meet me? b) Where do I go after parking to go meet her? Thank you very much for any help!

I will be traveling from ATL to PRG with a connection in AMS. My layover is 50 minutes. Is this enough time? What are the procedures I should expect?

  • How long is suggested for connected flights

Hi i'm looking at flights for my family vacation and i was wondering if 45 mins at ORD is long enough for a connecting flight?

If both flights are domestic and on the same airline it is, but it doesn't leave much of a cushion for delays.

Hi. I Fly DL476 on Jan 26 from FLL to Brussels via JFK. What do I need to know about the connecting flight at JFK to BRU DL 408. Do I need to re-checkin my bags and do I need to go through security again? It seems that arrival and departure is terminal 4. Thanks.

No you do not have to do anything with your bags. Yes both flights will likely be in T4 but you may arrive in T2 which is connected inside security by a Delta shuttle bus.

  • Arriving from Helsinki to T8, will my family make the connecting fligh

Hello, our party of 5 are arrviving from Helsinki at 15.55 pm and need to make it to our connecting flight (American airlines) to San Francisco departing at 1745, everything in T8. We have ESTA, but still need to go through customs at JFK in order to get into the US. Do we also need to pick up our luggage and check it in again to SF? What are the odds on making it to the connecting flight?

That should be enough time. You can recheck your bags at the transfer desk after you clear customs.

  • Travelling Delhi to Orlando

My family is Travelling from Delhi to Orlando with united. I believe their immigration will be at EWR. Wats the transfer process . Do they collect their bags 1st n then do immigration or vice versa. Will they again have to recheck their bags at counter n do security again . How far are the gates of arrival n departure. Would they need to take a tram ? Thanks

At EWR, United uses Terminals B & C (TB, TC) for its international flights - both terminals have their own customs procedures (go through passport check, retrieve checked bags, go through customs clearance and - if transferring to another flight - re-check-in bag). United uses for its departures TC (United Express uses both TA & TC). After baggage re-check-in, she needs to take the AirTrain (follow signs) to TC - but needs to go through security check before proceeding to the connecting C gate.

We would like to send a gift of Canadian ice wine with our international student (16 years of age) to give to his parents. Any way to make it possible?

Doing so is illegal. Only passengers over 21 are allowed to carry alcohol over the border.

I will have 15 hours between flights at JFK. Is there an area where I can store my bags so I can leave the airport and see the sights?

There are baggage storage facilities on the lower levels of Terminals 1 and 4

  • Meeting Moscowvite... but where?
    Nov 12, 2014

Greetings! Transaero flight from Moscow coming in Saturday... age old problem of having to meet someone with no cell phone in an airport the size of a small city!! Can I go to the baggage carousel without a ticket? How do I know which terminal she's arriving at? Is it on the ticket? Sorry so dumb!! Sigh!! Any and all ideas are greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in Advance!!!

Transaero uses Terminal 4. You cannot go to the baggage carousel for an international flight, however, you can meet her at the exit of customs. There will be a lot of other people waiting and standing there as well.

First of all, ZAP... wow! - thank you!!!! You are amazing!! Forgive me, but the Customs' exit... Terminal 4? I'm sure there is signage... do all international travelers go through the same customs exit regardless? (I read that online somewhere) - I'm actually trying to give her a phone before she boards a US Airways domestic connecting flight. Seriously, thank you again!!

Yes, usually all passengers come out the same exit. In T4 there is only one - here is a map of the lower level of T4 - http://www.jfkiat.com/maps/arrivals.pdf

Perfect!! Thanks a TON!!! So helpful!! We're putting our scheme together right now!! =O)

  • Rechecking baggage?

If you are transting through LAX from Vegas to Toronto, but arrive and depart from Terminal 4, do you need to go through immigration and recheck baggage?

No, you do not go through US Immigration when leaving the US. You will go through Canadian Immigration when you get to Toronto.

  • ORD Short Layover from Canada to US Destination
    Nov 10, 2014

I will be flying from London, Ontario to Kansas City with a 1 hour, 25 minute stop at ORD. Will this be enough time to make the KC flight and do I need to go through customs/immigration (I am American if that matters on timing).

American does not fly to London, Ontario. Are you on United? American flies to Kitchener/Waterloo. Regardless, neither of those places have US Customs pre-clearance so you will have to go through US Immigration and Customs when you arrive in Chicago. 1 hr 25 mins is barely enough time.

My parents-in-law will fly from PDX through YVR to PVG, their conecting time at YVR is 3 hrs, do they need Canada Visa? Also, can we ask Air Canada to help them from one gate to the other since they both over 70s and do not know English? Thanks!

What country are they citizens of? What kind of Visa are/were they in the US on?

They are Chinese citizen and using B2 Visa to stay in US. their visa will be expired on the day they leaving US.

  • luggage and time between flights

Hi. We'll be travelling by British Airways from Luxembourg to Miami with two stopps. London-Heathrow and Atlanta. I know that the luggage will be checked through to Atlanta, but what about Atlanta to Miami? Do we have to go through immigration, claim the luggage, go through US customs and then recheck the luggage? And if yes, where do we check-in again? Next question: We have 130 minutes (if the incoming flight is not late) to move between de different concourses. Will there be enough time? It's all BA flights, however the flight from Atlanta to Miami is operated by American Airlines. Thank you for your help

You will arrive at ATL's International (Maynard) Terminal. Its Concourses E or F have separate immigration & customs checkpoints. Your connecting flight by American will be at Concourse T of the Domestic terminal. After passport check, picking up bags, going through customs clearance and re-checking in bags where indicated - follow signs to the 'Plane Train' serving all concourses in the center of their gate arrangements. Both airlines belong to the same Alliance - your bags will be automatically transferred.

Yes, that should be enough time. You will re-check your bags at the transfer desk after US Customs.
