My daughter is a US citizen currently living in Mexico for a study abroad program. In June, she will be flying from Cancun to Liberia, Costa Rica with 1 stop in Miami - 1 hour/16 min. Will she need to go through US Customs and, if so, is that enough time for her to catch her connecting flight to Costa Rica?

Yes, she has to go through US Customs and that is not enough time for her to make that transfer.

    Thank you for the information!

I will be arriving O'Hare (ORD) at 4 30 pm and have to make a connecting flight to FRA (Frankfurt, Germany) at 5:15 pm. Is this enough time? Would I have to go through customs? what terminals would I arrive and depart?

If your first flight is on United, you will arrive in Terminal 1. If it is on United Express you will arrive in Terminal 1 or 2. They are connected inside security by a walkway. You will depart from Terminal 1 whether your flight to Frankfurt is on United or Lufthansa. You do not go through US Customs when departing the US. You have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

I am flying in on Air Canada (terminal 3) and meeting friends at Delta (terminal 5?). Is it far to walk with my bags?

You will all arrive in Terminal 3. Terminal 5 is a departure only terminal.

  • Group of 20 pax through MIA to SJO, Costa Rica

Hello I will be responsible for getting a group of 20 pax through MIA on AA. Departing LHR on March 9th, arriving MIA at 3:35pm Continuing to SJO, departing at 18:25 For international arrivals/departures it looks as though both are from Terminal D with AA. Is 2 hours and 40 minutes enough time to get a group through Passport Control, collect cases and Customs and bag recheck? AA has told me we do need to collect our cases and recheck. For our return, we have even less time - only 1 hour and 45 min! Do we have to collect our cases again and pass through Customs and recheck cases or just do Passport control. I couldn't get an answer from AA for our return flight. Also, will there be additional security checks after customs coming/going. I need to be able to inform pax if they can purchase Dutyfree or not! Grateful for any information on arrival/departure terminals, procedure and walking distances. Many thanks.

Since you are on an international to International connection you should not have to claim and re-check your bags. On the return you might have some difficulty with that short of a connection. You go through the standard security check after clearing customs. If you will not be claiming your bags in MIA, then they cannot purchase duty free except in MIA (not in LHR or SJO).

Hello ZAP - I thought we wouldn't have to re-check bags as well, but AA keeps insisting that we do. One last question, I see that AA has departures from Terminals D and E - if we arrive to D and depart from E, is that walkable or must we get some sort of tram or skytrain? Many thanks for your help - great information.

D and E are connected. Often call-center employees aren't very well informed.

Hi I am travelling from new York to palermo and arriving at t3 and then go to t1 to take the flight to Palermo , my sister lives in Rome and would like to meet me at the airport to say hello, is it possible and if so , how? THANKS

You could if you completely exited the airport to walk to T1 vs. following the pathways for connecting passengers. Also, you'll have to have a pretty long connection for it to be worth it.

  • Flight from Toronto to France with layover in JFK

I will be flying American Airlines from Toronto, with a connecting flight in JFK out to Paris. Do I have to go through customs? and I only have a layover of 1:30 hours.

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. All you have to do in JFK is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal 8.

I have a Fargo to Denver flight with only a 49 minute layover until boarding for San Jose. Will that be enough time? Do I need to worry about boarding times? We are going from B94 to B47. Thanks

Should say until flight departs, not boards. Thanks

That should be enough time if your Fargo flight is on-time.

  • Do we have enough transfer time?

Hello, We land with Delta DL81 at 2:55PM from Brussels. Our connecting flight is Delta DL 2545 to Orlando leaving at 4:55PM. We have to clear customs, but do we have to recheck our luggage? and do we have enough time?

Yes, you will have to claim your luggage, go through Customs, and then re-check it then go through security and take the Plane Train to your departure concourse. You should have enough time.

Thanx, do we have to recheck if we are flying Witherspoon same airline ?

I'm assuming "witherspoon" was autocorrect for with the same. Yes, you have to claim your baggage in order to go through US Customs, regardless of what airlines you are flying. There will be a re-check desk right after you exit customs.

I left my wallet at MAC terminal 4 and have called the 7514001 number. They do not have the MAC store number. Will someone please post the contact number there. Google shows no number for this store location.

I am flying into LAX at 4:20pm on American Airlines from London. Currently I have a 6 hour layover back up to San Francisco. In order to skip the layover I would like to book a different flight on Southwest leaving at 6:55pm. Do I have enough time to get my bags through customs and connect? Also, since I need to connect my bags to a different airline(Southwest), where would I do that? Thank You!

Yes, that would barely be enough time. You will have to collect your bags in customs, go through customs, exit your arrival terminal and take your bags to Terminal 1 to check them with Southwest.

I live in Dallas, and a friend has a 2 hour DFW connection, staying in the US/domestic flight. Will my friend be able to leave the security area to see me and re-enter later and go through security again?

Yes, you can, but be sure to bring your boarding pass with you. You also won't have a whole lot of time.
