  • What to do in layover time

Hi, I have 5hour layover at SEA before i take emirates to dubai. I will be fying from SLC in Alaska airlines. What is the best way I can spend my time. Can i leave the airport after checking my baggage and go sight seeing at seattle for about 3 hours.

The Emirates check-in counter will probably not open until about 3 hours before your flight, so you will not be able to check your bags when you arrive. It takes 45 minutes each way to get from the airport to any sights you would want to see, so you would have very little time to see anything.

    Thanks ZAP. That was useful.

I am flying from YYZ on Air Canada to Iowa. My layover is 35 mins in Chicago. Then I fly out again with Air Canada to Iowa. Do I have to go through customs or security again before getting on my flight to Iowa? And if I do, is that enough time to get to my gate?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. All you have to do in Chicago is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. United will operate your flight to Iowa. You will arrive in Terminal 2 and depart from Terminal 1 or 2. 1 and 2 are connected inside security by a walkway.

    Thank you so much! :)

I will be flying from Mexico to Toronto, connecting in Dallas (with Delta). I think my luggage will go right through, without me having to recheck it in Dallas. Does anyone know if that's correct?

Yes, the AA procedure is that on an international to international connection through Dallas you do not have to claim your bags. You will still have to go through US Immigration and security though.

Thank you so much for that helpful information!!

I'm flying with Delta from Brussels to Atlanta (flight DL 81), and then taking another flight from Atlanta to Guadalajara, i just have 2 hours and a half of time to take my second flight, should that be enough? any tips on how to go faster would be appreciated :)

To add to my comment, my second flight is also a DELTA flight (FL 309).

Your transfer time should suffice. You will arrive at & depart from ATL's International (Maynard Jackson) Terminal, which houses International Arrivals at Concourses E or F with separate immigration & customs checkpoints. While passengers arriving at Concourse F will go through customs clearance (CBP) at this concourse, regardless if connecting to other flights or not - Arrivals at Concourse E who need to connect to another flight will be processed right there. After customs clearance and re-check-in of your bags where indicated, proceed to your connecting gate.

You will also have to go through security once you re-check your bags. You have plenty of time.

Coming on Delta Flight form Madison and arriving at 4:36a - connecting Delta Flight departing to Paris at 5:15P will I have enough time to get to connecting flight (42 minutes)? Should I pick up my luggage and recheck? Thakns

You don't have to do anything with your baggage. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

Hi, I am an Irish citizen, flying from Toronto to Amsterdam via JFK New York. This is a single booking through Delta airlines - not two separate bookings. It says on my confirmation email the Toronto to JFK flight is with Gojet Airlines DBA Delta Connection, and my JFK to Amsterdam flight is with KLM. I would love to know if: - If I need to go through any customs or immigration check at JFK - If so do I need to apply for an ESTA - If my bags would get checked through or not - If not is it a simple get off plane and go to the designated gate for the second part of the journey - If anybody knows if I would need to change terminals I appreciate any help on here, difficult to find answers online.

You will preclear US Immigration in Toronto. You do not have to do anything with your baggage in JFK. You do need to complete ESTA because you will have to go through US Immigration in Toronto and have an Irish passport. You will arrive in Terminal 2 and depart from terminal 4. Delta runs a shuttle bus inside security.

ZAP - thank you so much for this reply, takes a lot off my mind and makes things a ton clearer, really appreciate it.

I arrive in JFK at 7.30am on Sat on JetBlue T5, can I have access to the Wingtips lounge in T4 for couple of hours? I depart from T5 again Sunday night.

No, because you will not have a boarding pass departing JFK on Saturday.

Sigh! Are there any showers facility available for arriving passengers in JFK, I need to head out for a wedding lunch.

Flying from Chicago to Philidelphia catching a connecting flight to London and have 2 hours in Philly. Is this enough time to get bags and go through customs. American Airlines

You do not have to claim your bags or go through US Customs when leaving the US. You will go through UK Immigration and Customs when you get to London. All you have to do in Philadelphia is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have plenty of time.

Hi. I will be flying Amsterdam(AMS)-Minneapolis(MSP)-austin(AUS). I arrive at MSP 12:16pm and my flight to Austin leaves at 1:36pm. Will 1 hour and 20 minutes be enough time? What do I have to do at MSP? Immigration, claim my bags, customs, re-check my bag at transfer desk, go through security and then go to my departure gate? Any tips?

Yes, you have the procedure correct. You should have enough time but do not have much time to spare.

I'm completely new to flying so any helpful information would be appreciated. My flight is from Toronto to Detroit on delta and then I have to transfer to air france for a flight to Paris in 45 minutes. Will my bags be automatically transferred when the air lines are different or will I have to pick them up and take them to the departure gate?

On your way to Paris you will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. All you have to do in Minneapolis is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. Your bags will be tagged through to Paris.

Sorry, that's all you have to do in Detroit, not Minneapolis.

  • International Layover in Chicago

I'm flying from London, Ont to Sarasota, FL with a layover in Chicago on January 3rd. My flight is at 6:30 in the morning and I get into Chicago at 7am. I know London is a small airport so it doesn't have a precheck.. I have a 1 hour and 38 minutes layover in Chicaco. Will this be enough time? I'm worried because it's the holidays. My dad has taken this exact flight before and had no issues but I'm worried as its the holidays and I'm travelling alone. Do I go through a special immigrations line because I have a connecting flight or is there only one line? Thanks!

Also I'm flying with United and I'm not checking any baggage if that makes a difference, just bringing a carry on!

Yes, that should be enough time. There is only one immigration line, although there is an express line if you don't have checked baggage. Immigration is not crowded at that time early in the morning.
