  • Meeting Moscowvite... but where?

Greetings! Transaero flight from Moscow coming in Saturday... age old problem of having to meet someone with no cell phone in an airport the size of a small city!! Can I go to the baggage carousel without a ticket? How do I know which terminal she's arriving at? Is it on the ticket? Sorry so dumb!! Sigh!! Any and all ideas are greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in Advance!!!

Transaero uses Terminal 4. You cannot go to the baggage carousel for an international flight, however, you can meet her at the exit of customs. There will be a lot of other people waiting and standing there as well.

First of all, ZAP... wow! - thank you!!!! You are amazing!! Forgive me, but the Customs' exit... Terminal 4? I'm sure there is signage... do all international travelers go through the same customs exit regardless? (I read that online somewhere) - I'm actually trying to give her a phone before she boards a US Airways domestic connecting flight. Seriously, thank you again!!

Yes, usually all passengers come out the same exit. In T4 there is only one - here is a map of the lower level of T4 - http://www.jfkiat.com/maps/arrivals.pdf

Perfect!! Thanks a TON!!! So helpful!! We're putting our scheme together right now!! =O)

  • Rechecking baggage?

If you are transting through LAX from Vegas to Toronto, but arrive and depart from Terminal 4, do you need to go through immigration and recheck baggage?

No, you do not go through US Immigration when leaving the US. You will go through Canadian Immigration when you get to Toronto.

  • ORD Short Layover from Canada to US Destination

I will be flying from London, Ontario to Kansas City with a 1 hour, 25 minute stop at ORD. Will this be enough time to make the KC flight and do I need to go through customs/immigration (I am American if that matters on timing).

American does not fly to London, Ontario. Are you on United? American flies to Kitchener/Waterloo. Regardless, neither of those places have US Customs pre-clearance so you will have to go through US Immigration and Customs when you arrive in Chicago. 1 hr 25 mins is barely enough time.

  • luggage and time between flights

Hi. We'll be travelling by British Airways from Luxembourg to Miami with two stopps. London-Heathrow and Atlanta. I know that the luggage will be checked through to Atlanta, but what about Atlanta to Miami? Do we have to go through immigration, claim the luggage, go through US customs and then recheck the luggage? And if yes, where do we check-in again? Next question: We have 130 minutes (if the incoming flight is not late) to move between de different concourses. Will there be enough time? It's all BA flights, however the flight from Atlanta to Miami is operated by American Airlines. Thank you for your help

You will arrive at ATL's International (Maynard) Terminal. Its Concourses E or F have separate immigration & customs checkpoints. Your connecting flight by American will be at Concourse T of the Domestic terminal. After passport check, picking up bags, going through customs clearance and re-checking in bags where indicated - follow signs to the 'Plane Train' serving all concourses in the center of their gate arrangements. Both airlines belong to the same Alliance - your bags will be automatically transferred.

Yes, that should be enough time. You will re-check your bags at the transfer desk after US Customs.

  • 1 hour 40 minute connection time

I'm flying in from London next sat on United. I am transiting en route to Managua, also on United. I understand I have to retrieve my luggage and go through immigration/customs. I have a visa waiver. Am I right in assuming that I arrive and depart from Terminal E ?Do I have sufficient time between flights? What do I do with my bags?

Yes, both flights will be in Terminal E. United does have a policy at IAH where bags on International to International connections do not have to be collected to go through US Customs, but please confirm this with the United agents in London and Houston.

Thanks mate. I'll check with United at Heathrow

  • Is 1.5hrs long enough flying from Guadalajara to LAX via Phoenix
    Nov 8, 2014

Hi there. Irish passport holder. Traveling to Guadalajara soon. Will be first time flying through US also. I have booked return flights from LAX to GLD via Phoenix with US Airways. I have learned that when you connect in the US from an international flight you need to collect check-in baggage and then recheck in. My question is: on the way back from GDL to LAX I have 1.5 hrs layover in Phoenix. Will I have to collect and recheck in my baggage there, or given that is same airline, will the baggage go all the way to LAX and I'll go through the processes there?

When you are traveling to GDL, you won't have to do anything in Phoenix. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. On your way to LAX from GDL, in PHX you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go through security.

Thanks ZAP for the reply. So do you think 1.5hrs is too tight?

  • Can I access a different terminal to stay in a lounge??

I will have a 12 hours layover coming soon. There is the wingtips lounge in terminal 4 wich is open 24 hours, but I will be arriving into terminal 1. My next flight is from terminal 8 next early morning. Will I be able to access into terminal 4 to the lounge??

No, you will not because you won't have a boarding pass departing JFK that day.

Hi my partner and I are flying into JFK from Shannon, Ireland at 14.40 in December. As far as I know we clear customs in Shannon. Would anyone have an idea roughly of what time we would be leaving the airport having picked up our luggage and taking that everything goes according to schedule? Thanks in advance!

I would estimate 20-30 minutes after arrival.

Thanks very much for your response :)

  • wheelchairs not available

returned a dollar rental car, asked for a wheelchair-told i had to go downstairs, to the bus before i could get a wheelchair i had to be at the main terminal.wheel chairs were not available at car rental, neither side of bus trip to airport and not until i arrived in person at the ticket counter for usair, was i told i could get a wheelchair. at this point it had been over a half hr, traveling from car drop off, to bus, to outside terminal, to ticket counter.. then waited over 20 minutes until a wheel chair arrived.not acceptable. i was barely walking at this point, and in terrible pain.finally a wheelchair arrived and took me to my gate-without stopping at bathrooms or for liquid refreshment.my "wheelchair pusher: spoke little english or just ignored me, finally left me at gate.when the flight landed in phila, i had a requested wheelchair and had to wait over 35 minutes for wheelchair to arrive. finally the cleaning crew was finished, all luggage picked up and a wheelchair arrives to take me to baggage.not acceptable time frame in phila, and i was told in houston there is a lack of wheelchairs-and many people have complained that you can not get a wheel chair until you are at the ticket counter.not acceptable by usair, or iah houston airport. also this is the second time i had this much of a wait time to get off the plane...in phila.our flight was an on time landing-i had a wheelchair on my reservation-again not acceptable service..

This is not US Airways or the Houston airport's website.

no kidding. i sent emails to us air and houston airport also..

  • REQUIREMENTS OF TRANSIT VISA
    Nov 6, 2014

am travelling from chennai to san antonio > Chenai > London > dallas or Chennai > frankfurt > Houston do I need a transit visa in London, frankfurt , dalls or houston for proceeding to SAN ANTONIO.

Assuming you are an Indian citizen, you will need a visitor Visa for the United States. Not a transfer Visa. For both London or Frankfurt you will need a transfer visa from those respective countries.

  • Underground tram
    Nov 5, 2014

I am very claustrophobic and will be flying from NY to Seattle in January. I see that I may need to use an underground tram to get to main terminal. Are there any other options? Thank you.

There are no other options if you arrive in the S or N Satellite. You'll have to suck it up and deal with it if you arrive at one of those concourses. Your only way to avoid it is to fly an airline that does not use those concourses, the airlines that don't use N or S are American, JetBlue, Southwest, Sun Country, United, US Airways, and Virgin America. All of those would at least offer a single connection itinerary between NY and Seattle and American, JetBlue and United offer non-stops.

Thanks very much. I tried to find a phone number for the airport related to "medical" or "disability" but no luck. I will check out the airlines you suggest.

  • Transfer/connecting flight

Hi, my husband will fly from SFO to IAH with UA 1027 and will arrive at 2.34 pm. At 3.45 pm he will fly with LH 7986 to AMS. Does he has enough time to go from he arriving terminal to the departure terminal? And does he has to go to customs again? Thanks

LH7986 is also a United flight. He will just arrive in Terminal C and depart from Terminal E which is directly connected. All he has to do is walk from his arrival gate to his departure gate. You do not go through US Immigration or Customs when leaving the US. He has enough time.

FYI, he will fly tomorrow morning from SFO, november 6th.

Thanks for the quick response. Which United code has this flight? Thanks!

    LH7986 is United flight 58

  • Connecting Flights

I will be landing in JFK from Berlin @ 305p on Air Berlin and I have a separate flight that departs on Jetblue at 635p. With going through customs, transferring to a different terminal, will I be able to make the 635p or is that cutting it close?

That should be enough time. Since Air Berlin and JetBlue do not have an interline agreement. You will have to take your bags to T5 to re-check them with JetBlue. You will take the AirTrain from Terminal 8 where you will arrive to Terminal 5 where you will depart.
