  • immigration & customs

As a visitor, how long will it take to get thru immigration. The flight arrives from England at 11:50 and the connecting flight leaves for Albany NY at 13:29. Will the bags go right thru to Albany or do we have to collect them after immigration and go thru customs? Will we have enough time to make the connecting flight?

Any time you enter the U.S. you have to collect your baggage in immigration and re-check it after clearing customs. I can't figure out where your connection is but you will probably have enough time. If you let me know where you are connecting and what airlines you are flying I can let you know more about general times to get through immigration and connecting gate help.

  • JET BLUE TERM 3, GET LUGGAGE, HOW LONG
    Apr 22, 2013

IS 2 HOURS ADEQUATE TIME TO GET MY LUGGAGE FROM TERMINAL 3(JET BLUE) AND CATCH UNITED FLIGHT IN TERMINAL 7? HAVE TO RECHECK BAGS. WILL I HAVE TO GO THRU SECURITY AGAIN?

Is this at LAX? Yes, you will have to go through security again. You will have to hope your first flight is on time an then take either the airline connections shuttle on the lower level, or preferably, run across the area between the terminals. You will barely have enough time.

US Airways is at terminal 1 should i book connecting flight on US Airways? It is closer than term 7 to jet blue(term3)? Same plane, same flight, but under US AIRWAYS. Just wondering, if plane is skywest will I go to Us Airways terminal 1 or United terminal 7? Probably should just drive home from LAX to Fresno- 3.5 hrs!

The terminal will be the OPERATING carrier. If it's a Skywest United Express flight it will still be going from United's terminals - In this case it would actually leave from Terminal 8 but you'd go through security in Terminal 7. If that flight is your only option then yes, you should probably just plan on driving.

Thank u so much- u helped me out a lot.

  • Connecting flights enough time?

If I fly from OKC to DEN on Frontier airlines flight 1185 and arrive at 14:02 and then fly from DEN to SFO on United airlines flight 644 leaving at 15:49. If I book the flights seperately will I have to claim my baggage at DEN and then re check in for my second flight or can I get it transferred automatically to my final destination of SFO. Also is this enough transfer time?

Booking separate flights will require you to get your bags on arrival and check them in with your connecting airline at the main Jeppeson terminal's level 6. Frontier will arrive in separate Concourse building A, while United uses separate Concourse building B. On arrival, you can take the AGTS train to the main Terminal. After re-checking in your bag, and going through security check, take the AGTS train back to Concourse B. No time to waste!

I don't think you'd have enough time to do all that - either book both flights on United or Frontier or don't check a bag or choose a later United flight.

I hear there is a shuttle from seatac to ferry piers (almost). Where do I find shuttle pickup at SEATAC? Is there cost? How much? is there a schedule that shuttle runs? Has anyone got info or comments about this service?

  • changing terminals for connecting flight

I am looking at a flight from LAX to HNL. We would arrive on Alaska Airline and need to get to Terminal 4 for AA. It is a connecting flight and our luggage would be transferred. Layover time is 1hr 45mins on a Monday morning (10AM.) Is this doable? I understand there is a shuttle for terminal transfers, would you suggest that or should we walk? We would just have carry-on totes. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

For the Terminal 6 -> Terminal 4 connection you are suggesting I would probably walk as the shuttle runs counter-clockwise and you'd have to ride it nearly all the way around. It should be doable in that amount of time.

  • Need help with transfer

We arrive from Minneapolis via KLM/Delta flight, have a 2h40m layover and then transfer to another KLM/Delta flight to Venice, Italy. I get that we have to go thru pasport control for a non. schenegean country...but then what? Do we have to pick up our bags, take them thru customs and recheck before going on to connecting flight. I do not find the Schiphol site to be of any help with these details. Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Indeed AMS site is not clear on that. However - judging from some other large EU airports - after passport check you proceed to baggage claim where you retrieve your bags and go with them through customs clearance - if continuing journey, you need to re-check them in at designated area.

  • Meeting my BF
    Apr 9, 2013

Hi All, My Bf is coming for a transit in JFK airport to meet me for 3 Hours and I'd love to meet him privately. He doesn't have a visa to the US. Is it possible to book a hotel for 2 hours only and is there a nice cheap hotel in the airport. Also if the hotel Idea is not possible .. Where can I meet him in the airport? Thanks for your help

You don't really have time for that. He will exit security when he arrives, so you can meet him at the exit from immigration in the terminal he is coming into. However, It will probably take him an hour to clear immigration and then he'll have to leave to get into line for security an hour before his next flight, so you'll really only be able to see each other for about an hour.

Thank you for the reply .. Is there any hotel inside JFK so we can meet for even an hour?

There are no hotels on airport grounds. There are a number of hotels just off airport grounds - Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express, JFK Inn, Days Inn, Comfort Inn, Sheraton, Farifield Inn, and Hilton Garden.

Without a valid US Visa he cannot exit the terminal. He has to go straight to the departures for his connecting flight. I am darn sure there is no way you can see him as he is in a controlled area only for security cleared passengers. Good luck

Further to my last comments please read the following: You may wish to avoid transit in US airports because: Anyone arriving into the United States or one of its territories (like Puerto Rico) — and not covered by the Visa Waiver Program or the separate provision for citizens of Canada & Bermuda — requires at least a C-1 transit visa to transit the airport. This can be expensive (US$131 minimum) and time-consuming to obtain, and you can be denied the visa: the requirements are the same as the full B-2 tourist visa. If you arrive without this visa, even for a fuel stop or transit, and aren't eligible for a waiver, you will be sent home and recorded as having been denied entry to the US. The United States does not allow sterile transit, which means that even if you have an immediate connecting flight, you have to pass through Customs and Immigration. This is time-consuming and tedious (4 hours or more is recommended to be safe), and all except Canadian travelers transiting in the USA using either a transit visa or the Visa Waiver Program will be photographed and fingerprinted. You have previously been denied entry to the US or overstayed in the US, and have been advised that entry may be refused in future. Transit entry is as likely to be refused as any other entry, it will almost certainly be easier to avoid risking it. Note that all of these activities now require either a Visa Waiver or C1 transit visa: transferring to another flight; just stopping and not disembarking from the plane; and refueling stops. Sometimes these minor stops are not even clearly marked on preliminary itineraries for long haul flights. If you have reason to avoid the US, ask that the itinerary be double and triple checked for transit and fuel stops in the US (including Hawaii and Alaska). Note: Alternative transit points described in this article often also require visas. Always check transit or entry conditions of all stops. You are responsible for checking and if necessary getting the visas and are advised to do so months before your planned trip.
