  • Enough time?
    May 24, 2014

I am travelling from IST-IAH, and need to book a flight from IAH to dallas. Is 1 hr 45min enough time to clear customs, get luggage, check-in for my new flight and get to the boarding gate? If not, my other option (which is more expensive, so I'm trying to avoid it) gives me 2 hs 15mins. Is that enough time to clear customs, get luggage, check-in, etc...?? I don't know if it helps, but I will be travelling business on turkish airlines, so maybe there is a special line through customs for business class passengers? Also, i'm an american citizen, so maybe that will speed things along too. Thanks for the help!!!

While you arrive with Turkish at Terminal D (TD) under today's departure listings United flies from IAH to DAL (that's the domestic Dallas terminal close to the city) - no listing for DFW - the internat'l Airport. If you buy a United Airline ticket (both Turkish & United are Star Alliance members) your bags should be automatically transferred after customs clearance & baggage re-check. Can't tell you which Concourse your connection will be (United is the only one using all Terminals, other than TD). For Arrivals procedure & transfers I suggest you open www.ifly.com/iah then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

  • T5 to T4

We will be arriving at T5 (domestic), then depart again from T4 (international). Our friend will drop off his child to travel with us. Q: 1.Can he enter the T4 lounge (he doesn't have ticket)? if not, where is the best place to meet him? 2. Can we wait at T5 lounge for few hours before moving to T4 (we have 9 hrs layover)? How about the luggages? Thanks!

If his child is traveling he can request a gate pass a the airline ticket counter in T4. Yes, you could also wait in the arrivals area of T5. Luggage depends on what airlines you are flying and whether you bought your tickets together or separately.

Thank you! Yes, the child is the only one that will travel with us, is the gate pass located before the security check? And can the parent wait inside the T4 lounge/restaurant area? We bought the ticket together under the same airline which is SQ, but for the domestic flight, they use Jet Blue..Thank you!

The parent should go to the Singapore Airlines ticket counter to get the gate pass.

Can someone tell me if the US Airways gate has TSA PRE? I often fly with Southwest and I know that gate has it. I learned United has it now as well. What about the gate for US Airways. Is there TSA PRECHECK

Indeed it has - as now the majority of US APs do.

  • American flying from Sicily to SD with layover at JFK
    May 21, 2014

Hi! Quick question. I will be leaving Sicily and flying back home to San Diego. My first flight leaves Sicily and lands in Milan. My next flight takes off in Milan and lands at JFK at 4:10 pm where I will have a 3 hour layover. I bought my flight under one ticket but it uses multiple airlines. (Delta and Alitalia)...Will I have to claim and recheck my bags when I get there due to the multiple airlines? I know I will have to go through security again once I get there, but my overseas flight is Alitalia operated by Delta, and I'm not exactly sure how it all works. The flight I took from the states to Sicily in the first place was Military so I didn't have to bother with all of this. Thanks!!

You will have to claim your bags after you clear US Immigration in Terminal 1 if your MXP-JFK flight is operated by Alitalia or Terminal 4 if it's operated by Delta, then you will go through US Customs, then you can re-check your bags. Then you will take the AirTrain to Terminal 2 where your flight to San Diego will depart and go through security and to your gate. You should have enough time.

We are arriving at 0635 form Melbourne and need to connect for an amtrak train that leaves union station at 1010. We were taking the Flyaway bus but need to be on the 8.30 bus. Can this be done.

You should definitely be able to make the 8:30 bus. You will likely be out of customs by 7:15.

  • Connecting from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2

Arriving 6/14 @1:25 p.m. on AirItalia into Terminal 1 and connecting with Delta flight @ 3:32 p.m. out of Terminal 2. Is this doable?

Yes it is doable but leaves very little time for any delays

I had the terminals backwards. Will arrive on Airitalia (Delta Codeshare) in Terminal 1 and will depart on Delta from Terminal 2. What is the best way to get from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2?

The only way between Terminal 1 and 2 is via the AirTrain, which runs outside security, but you will be outside security anyway after clearing customs from your Alitalia flight.

I'm travelling on UA from FRA to YYC via ORD - do I have to clear customs in ORD or will my baggage go through to YYC?

Yes, you will arrive in Terminal 5, go through US Immigration, claim your baggage, go through US Customs, then you can re-check your baggage. Then you will take the ATS Train from T5 to T1, go through security, and to your departure gate.

I'm arriving from JFK on Iberia at Terminal 4 and I'm meeting with a friend who's coming from CDG on Air France at Terminal 2. How do I go from T4 to T2 - are they near each other ? I believe that each would have a different immigration facility . Pls help and thanks.

Situation 1- Arrive at SEA from YVR via Alaska Airlines with 2 hours and 33 mins to connect to Delta flight to ICN. Not sure whether to have checked bags or not. Situation 2- Arrive at SEA from ICN via Delta with 1 hour and 15 mins to connect to another Delta flight to YVR. Is this enough time, do I have to claim checked bags and re-check them again? Situation 3- Arrive at SEA from ICN via Delta with 1 hour and 55 mins to connect to Alaska Airlines to YVR. Enough connecting time? Have to claim checked bags? Thanks

  • Elderly Parents 1 hour connection
    May 14, 2014

My parents both in their 80's Parkinson's and dementia have a 1 hour connection in CLT to Newark NJ. Past experiences have not been very good with the reliability of wheelchair and people movers. Do you think a 1hour connection is not enough time to catch their flight? They are not frequent travelers and need TLC...how can we be sure they will be taken care of.

CLT is a fairly easy airport and they won't have to go through any security. But if you're worried book a longer connection.

I am going to be flying Delta 5133 from YHZ-LGA for a 21/2 hour layover then catching Delta 1485 to go to MCO, do I have to pick my luggage up and go through security again or do they automatically transfer my luggage to delta 1485

Delta should automatically transfer your luggage. You will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Halifax. All you have to do in LGA is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You will not have to go through security.

    Thank you for the information:)

  • Clearing Customs - Cozumel to DFW to LAX

I'm flying back from Cozumel with a 2 hour layover in DFW, will that be enough time to make my connecting flight to LAX? I'll arrive DFW at 8PM on Sun, Jul 6th and I'm concerned since it's a holiday weekend (although late evening) that 2 hours may not be enough time?

On arrival at DFW you need to go through passport check, pick up bags, go through customs clearance, then re-check-n your bags & get to your connecting domestic terminal. I suggest you open www.ifly.com/ then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

Need to get from Hawaiian(Terminal 3) to US Air(Terminal 4); claim baggage and re-check in at US Air. Arrive 10 pm Depart 11:59 pm. Do we have enough time? Tips?

Yes, that should be enough time if your hawaiian flight is on-time. You can check-in online for your US Airways flight before you leave Hawaii.

  • transfer time allowance?

I will be arriving at 2:20 pm, July 17, from Vienna on Austrian Air. My next flight is United to Charlotte at 4:50 pm. I will have a checked bag. Is this enough tiime? What will be the procedure? Thanks!

Yes, that should be enough time. You will clear US Immigration in the International Arrivals Building, then claim your baggage, go through US Customs, then re-check your bag with United as it should already be tagged through to Charlotte. You will then follow the signs to the departures area, go through security and then to your departure gate on concourse A, C, or D via the mobile lounge or aerotrain.
