  • Leave JFK Airport after customs, Port-Of-Entry
    Feb 19, 2015

Hey y'all, So I'm flying in a couple months from Brazil to Washington DC. It looks like Belo Horizonte - Rio de Janeiro - New York JFK - Washington. However, I want to visit my buddy in New York and would like to ditch my last flight from NY to DC. I'm aware that NY is my port-of-entry into the US, so I will be receiving my luggage there for customs, correct? I want to know if I can collect my bags, do customs, and leave the airport and not take the last flight from NY to DC. Does anyone know? Thank you so much!

Yes, once you clear customs in JFK you will have your luggage and be outside the secure area and legally clear to go where you want. However, if the JFK-Washington flight is not the very last flight of your itinerary and you skip it (for example if you are flying back to Brazil on the same reservation), your airline may cancel the entire rest of your itinerary.

Yeah, the JFK-DC flight is the last one on the flight. My hope was to spend time in NY instead of taking that flight home. Awesome! Thanks for your help :)

I will be travelling from TNR via CDG to the US with my 2 dogs (checked baggage or manifest cargo). I was informed that the pet transit zone is closed at present. When will it reopen? And how will pet transit be handled, if this zone is closed? Thanks for your reply!

I have a 4 hour layover at LAX and would like to check out the other terminals while there. How do I get to the other terminals and do I have to go through security at each one?

It depends what terminal you arrive in. 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 are all connected by walkways inside security, but 1, 2, 3, and the International Terminal are not connected to any other terminals.

Also be aware that none of the terminals other than the International Terminal are much to look at.

Traveling via US airways from NJ to PHX. Arriving at PHX at 2PM and connecting US airways flight to SNA is at 3PM. Will I have enough time to board at 3PM?

Yes, that should be enough time. All US Airways flights are in the same terminal and all you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

I am traveling for the first time in USA from Europe. And I will be at ATL airport at 3:38 pm and depart at 5:42 pm. Do I have sufficient time to make all the first immigrants things and finf my baggage, make find the check in????

Coming from Boston to Atlanta on Southwest and then leaving on Southwest to Tampa. Will I be staying in same concourse? Looks like Southwest uses Concourses C and D. Have 45 minutes if flight from Boston is on time. Will I make it if I have to change between concourses?

All domestic Southwest flights are in Concourse C. You have enough time.

Hi, I'm flying from Lagos to Miami via Houston in March, arriving in Houston with UA 143 at Terminal E and departing 2:25h later from Terminal C. Will I have to collect my luggage and go through customs or can I just go to Terminal C by train and collect everthing in Miami which is my final destination? If this is not the case, is 2:25h enough time for the transfer?

Yes, you will arrive in Terminal E, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the transfer desk immediately after, then go to the departure level and through security and to your departure gate (C and E are connected directly). You should have enough time.

I'm leaving from Houston to Newark then connecting to a flight to Berlin, Germany, is 1 hr 50 min enough time and do I have to leave the area to get my connecting flight, and do I need to get my luggage first? I'm nervous as I'll be traveling alone.

On your way to Europe all you have to do in Newark is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. Both will be in Terminal C. If your first flight is on-time you'll have plenty of time.

Departing from ATL airport to Cabo San Lucas, however have a connection in Dallas Fort Worth to Cabo. Do I check in at ATL Domestic or International terminal for my flight?

Are you flying American Airlines? If so you have to check in in the Domestic Terminal, American does not have a counter in the International Terminal.
