Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen SAW Airport Overview

Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport SAW  is one of Turkey's two major Airports serving the greater Istanbul area, and has received from 'Routes Europe' the 'Fastest Growing Airport' award in the airport over 10 million passenger category. The name of Sabiha Gokcen was added to the Airport name in honor of the first female combat pilot in the world.

The Airport is located between the towns of Pendik and Kurkoy -  35 km southeast of Istanbul, in the Asian part of Turkey - and is accessible by a 1.5 km access road from either Ankara Yolu (E5) or from TEM (E80) motorways. It is also 40 km from Kadikoy and 50 km from Taksim.

With a long runway and an estimated 12.7 million passengers in 2011 (compared to only 157,172 in 2003!), the Airport had exceeded all expectations. Many domestic, international, regular & low-fare Airlines serve Istanbul Sabiha Airport with a multitude of direct flights to countless destinations in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. Seasonal charter flights bring countless tourists every year.

NOTE:
Sabiha Gokcen Airport requests that passengers arrive there for domestic flights 90 minutes, and for international flights 2 hours before their scheduled flight departure.

The on-Airport hotel ‘Havalimani Oteli' (tel. +90 216 588 5000), is an ISG hotel, adjacent to the passenger terminal.

To get from Instanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport to your destination, you can rent a car, take a taxi , a public or private bus, a ferry or train: (a)The following public bus lines stop at the Airport:   E3 to Levent; E9 to Bostanci; E10 to Kurtkoy & Kadikoy; 16S to Yenisehir & Kozyatagu; and 132 to Kartal - Teperoren.
1. Havas Shuttle buses (tel. +90 216 411 8600) run between the Airport and Sahrayicedid, Kozyatagi, Taksim and Izmit. The trip between the Airport & Kozyatagi takes 45 mins; between the Airport and Taksim 1 hr ; between the Airport & Izmit 1 hr. 
2. Buses to Kozyatagi & Taksim run hourly between 5am & 2 am; to Izmit every 2 hrs from 5 am to 11pm.
3. The Pendik ‘Sea Bus’ Port (+90 212 444 4436) is 14 km from the Airport ; from there you can take a ferry to the Islands. The Pendik train station is 14 km from the Airport.
4. The Kadikoy Krtal Light Rail System’s first phase – from Kadikoy to Kozyatagi was completed in 20010, and the rest of the project in 2011. Once completed, it will integrate with the Marmaray Project, and be part of the whole system.
5. The Marmaray Project, which is the Bosporus Tube Crossing Tunnel, is slated for completion by 2012 & will then integrate the fragmented local rail system which currently runs two unconnected tracks in the Asian & European sides.
