  • 18 hours layover
    Jan 20, 2015
I have a 18 hours flight connection time. arriving on T4 and probably departing from T5 (JetBlue airplane), any ideas where I can sleep for a while in the airport? because I don't have a US visa to let go outside the airport.

What country are you a citizen of. If you are a citizen of a Visa Waiver country you can go where ever you want. If you are not a citizen of a visa waiver country, you need a Transit Visa, even if you don't plan on leaving the airport. A Transit Visa does allow you to leave the airport as long as you are in transit.

Thank you. the US embassy told me that I don't need a transit visa or any other document except my passport to stay in airport during layover time. Do they give me a transit visa in JFK airport?

The United States does not have Visa upon arrival. If you are a citizen of a visa waiver country they just check your passport. Please answer the question "what country are you a citizen of?" and I can help you more.

I have the same situation like Gabriel , but î have 18 hours layover in Newark ! I Will flying to hong long from Canada ! I have Vietnam passport and Canada greencard ! Can I get out the airport for the hotel or tour? Tks

I was in the same situation and I was able to reserve a hotel at . They are the best deal around the airport, but be aware that you need to have a visa in order to get out of the airport

  • 8 hour layover - can I get my bags?
    Jan 3, 2015
I have an 8 hour overnight layover on Monday. Is it safe to assume I'll be picking up my bags and rechecking them? So I can get a hotel.

Yes, you will claim your bags.

  • 10 hours layover BRU-JFK-SDQ, terminal 4 on DL flight
    Jan 1, 2015
Hi, i'm arriving at 1pm on dl flight from BRU and leave on DL flight to SDQ at 11pm. Both flights from T4. Any idea? am i entitled to use the lounge in T5? I checked the website sleepinginairport and the jfk website, the information is contradicting... From one side the lounge is accessible to all passengers willing to pay 25USD, from another side it is restricted to T5 passengers. Any daypass possibility in a cheap hotel nearby? Thanks and happy 2015

No, you can't access the club in T5, but for $50 you can use the Delta SkyClub in T4. It is very nice.

  • Long Layover
    Nov 24, 2014
Hello! I have a 19 hour (yes, not a typo) layover in JFK before heading across to Johannesburg. Can I leave the airport? How long before my flight should I come back? Do I have to pick up my checked baggage if the flight TO JFK is domestic but the flight AWAY is not? Thank you!!

Yes, you can leave the airport. You should be back at the airport 2 hours before your flight. Yes, considering the length of your connection you will probably have to pick up your baggage at JFK after your first flight and bring it back later. The only possible exception might be if you are arriving in the early morning and departing in the late evening of the same day. Ask the agent in your origin city.

  • Collecting bags at layover from Argentina
    Nov 1, 2014
We'll be flying from Buenos Aires to Boston but have a layover at JFK. Do we collect our bags there to take them through customs? We maybe choose to take the train home from JFK instead of continuing our flight.

Yes, you will have to claim your bags to go through customs. Once you exit customs you will be outside security and free to go where you want.

  • Layover time
    Oct 27, 2014
I am arriving to JFK terminal 5 with jetblue 1733 at 8:30 PM, and I have a flight with Lufthansa LH405 from terminal 1 at 10:10 PM and I have checked bags, is that enough time layover ? Thank you

Did you purchase tickets separately or together? If together then JetBlue and Lufthansa have an interline agreement and your bags will be tagged through to your final destination. All you will have to do is take the AirTrain from T5 to T1, get your Lufthansa boarding pass if you don't already have it, and go through security. You should have enough time to do that. If you purchased separate tickets you will have to wait to claim your bags from JetBlue and you may not have enough time to make your connection.

  • early check-in at airport hotel

  • Can I layover terminal 4 waiting for a hotel check in the next day
    Oct 18, 2014
Hello I will be arriving at jfk at terminal 4 at around 8 pm. I wanted to know if I can hang around the airport until the next morning then leave to check in a hotel. I don't have a connecting flight, just want to avoid a hotel charge for a wasted night anyways because after the long flight I would only want to sleep. If I can, where can I stay, will there be security around all the time, will it be heated as this would be in november. Thanks

You can sleep in Terminal 4 in the baggage claim area and check-in area. However, if you arrive at 8 PM that's a long time to stay. You might want to get a relatively inexpensive hotel near the airport.

  • JFK terminal 1 to terminal 8 via immigration

Hello, I'm flying with Delta from Brussels (Belgium) to Los Angeles through JFK. The whole trip is with Delta and the overlay time is 1h50 minutes. I'm European. If I've understood correctly, I wll arrive at Terminal 4, go through inmigration, collect my bags, go through customs and re-check my bags in the transfer counter. Right? What's next? The flight to LA departs also from T4. Do I have to go through security again or is it a way to get back directly to the boarding gates of T4? Is it enough with 1h50m? On the way back, I just need to check the luggage with Delta all the way to Brussels and don't need to collect it in JFK and go through inmigration again, right? Thanks for the help!

You will go through security once you go back up to the departure level. 1 hr 50 minutes should be enough time. You have the process correct on your return to Belgium.

  • Luggage at Transfer terminal
    Oct 2, 2014
Hello I need to flight Boston JFK- JFK Rome with Alitalia operated by Delta and I have 1 hour for the transfer. Do I need to collect my luggage and check in it again? DO you think I have enough time? It's necessary to the passport control again? Thanks

No you will not collect your luggage or go through passport control in JFK. There is no US Immigration or Customs when leaving the US. However, you may have to change terminals as you will likely arrive in T2 and depart from T4. Delta runs a shuttle bus inside security between the two terminals. You should have enough time.

If my plane leaves Dubai at 8:30 AM on Oct 31, and flies non-stop to JFK for 13 hours, 45 minutes, what day and time is it in NYC when I land?

It will 2:30 PM the same day, still on October 31.

  • LAS - JFK - Paris
    Aug 28, 2014
Hey, I'm travelling from LAS to JFK and get there at 4pm on 10.10, then I have a separate flight from JFK to Paris (France) at 7pm on 10.10 (3h difference). Will it be enough? Do I have to pick up luggage or anything like that? I'm from Europe, but since I'm flying from LA to NY, I believe that I don't have to clear customs, just pick luggage as the flights are separate? Thanks for the answers!

Yes, since the first flight is domestic all you'll have to do is pick up your baggage and take it to your second airline. 3 hrs should be plenty of time.

  • Meeting friend for layover
    Aug 28, 2014
I'm trying to spend time with a friend before she leaves on her connecting flight. Can she come out of the post-security area to see me? What are my options?

Yes, as long as she has a boarding pass departing JFK the day of her flight she can exit security and re-enter as much as she wants.

Can I attain a pass to go through security to see her at the gate?

Passes are for people to accompany children or the handicapped, not regular adult friends.
