  • Can I layover terminal 4 waiting for a hotel check in the next day
    Oct 18, 2014
Hello I will be arriving at jfk at terminal 4 at around 8 pm. I wanted to know if I can hang around the airport until the next morning then leave to check in a hotel. I don't have a connecting flight, just want to avoid a hotel charge for a wasted night anyways because after the long flight I would only want to sleep. If I can, where can I stay, will there be security around all the time, will it be heated as this would be in november. Thanks

You can sleep in Terminal 4 in the baggage claim area and check-in area. However, if you arrive at 8 PM that's a long time to stay. You might want to get a relatively inexpensive hotel near the airport.

My wife will be arriving from Manila , arriving at terminal 1 and she will be required to go through immigration and then make it to terminal 8 for her connecting flight , my question is this her flight land about 2:20pm and the connecting flight leaves at 4:55pm.......will this be enough time for her to go through immigration and recheck her bags?

Yes, that should be enough time.

Hello, I'm flying with Delta from Brussels (Belgium) to Los Angeles through JFK. The whole trip is with Delta and the overlay time is 1h50 minutes. I'm European. If I've understood correctly, I wll arrive at Terminal 4, go through inmigration, collect my bags, go through customs and re-check my bags in the transfer counter. Right? What's next? The flight to LA departs also from T4. Do I have to go through security again or is it a way to get back directly to the boarding gates of T4? Is it enough with 1h50m? On the way back, I just need to check the luggage with Delta all the way to Brussels and don't need to collect it in JFK and go through inmigration again, right? Thanks for the help!

You will go through security once you go back up to the departure level. 1 hr 50 minutes should be enough time. You have the process correct on your return to Belgium.

  • Luggage at Transfer terminal
    Oct 2, 2014
Hello I need to flight Boston JFK- JFK Rome with Alitalia operated by Delta and I have 1 hour for the transfer. Do I need to collect my luggage and check in it again? DO you think I have enough time? It's necessary to the passport control again? Thanks

No you will not collect your luggage or go through passport control in JFK. There is no US Immigration or Customs when leaving the US. However, you may have to change terminals as you will likely arrive in T2 and depart from T4. Delta runs a shuttle bus inside security between the two terminals. You should have enough time.

  • Time zone confusion

If my plane leaves Dubai at 8:30 AM on Oct 31, and flies non-stop to JFK for 13 hours, 45 minutes, what day and time is it in NYC when I land?

It will 2:30 PM the same day, still on October 31.

  • LAS - JFK - Paris
    Aug 28, 2014
Hey, I'm travelling from LAS to JFK and get there at 4pm on 10.10, then I have a separate flight from JFK to Paris (France) at 7pm on 10.10 (3h difference). Will it be enough? Do I have to pick up luggage or anything like that? I'm from Europe, but since I'm flying from LA to NY, I believe that I don't have to clear customs, just pick luggage as the flights are separate? Thanks for the answers!

Yes, since the first flight is domestic all you'll have to do is pick up your baggage and take it to your second airline. 3 hrs should be plenty of time.

  • Meeting friend for layover
    Aug 28, 2014
I'm trying to spend time with a friend before she leaves on her connecting flight. Can she come out of the post-security area to see me? What are my options?

Yes, as long as she has a boarding pass departing JFK the day of her flight she can exit security and re-enter as much as she wants.

Can I attain a pass to go through security to see her at the gate?

Passes are for people to accompany children or the handicapped, not regular adult friends.

  • Re-Checking Bags at JFK Airport
    Jun 13, 2014
I have a flight from Santiago to JFK arriving at 9am. I then have a 9 hour lay-over before my flight back to the UK at 6pm. I know in connecting flights through the US you have to re-claim your bag, but I am not sure how/when I can re-check it again! Can I re-check my bag immediately or do I have to wait for the check-in desk for my flight to London to open 4 hours before? I really want to go into the city (very briefly I know) but I don't want to be stuck with my bag! Any advice would be really helpful!

  • ABQ,JFK,ARUBA arrive 6 am @JFK depart 11:30 am Jetblue
    Jun 9, 2014
First time international flight and 5.5 hour layover does not sound too great. So I have some questions. From what I understand customs / immigration will only be an issue in Aruba. Otherwise I can leave and enter JFK and only deal with TSA. Are there any suggestions on where to go in 5.5 hour layover. Secondly how much time should I devote to leaving JFk and reentering JFK TSA. If I have Carry on baggage is there a place I can store this while I take a look at New York? Thank you for the help.

  • Customs, layover and kids
    Mar 11, 2014
I am traveling with 4kids this summer and I am looking at going from Frankfurt to JFK to Austin. Will a 2hr layover in JFK allow me enough time to recheck my bags, go through customs and make my connection to Austin with 4 kids? Or am I better off take the ATL connection with 5hr layover?

Would the tickets be bought together or separately? If together, 2 hours is enough at JFK, but it doesn't leave much room for error or delays.

  • Arrive from Milan into JFK then JFK to New Orleans
    Feb 28, 2014
I arrive at JFK on Emirates from Milan on a Sunday at 7pm. Connecting flight on JetBlue at 9:39pm. Is that enough layover time for customs, security, bagcheck (we will just have carry-on)?

Many thanks for any opinions. Want to buy my ticket soon :-)

Yes, that should be enough time. If possible, check in for your JetBlue flight on-line before you leave Milan.
