  • Overnight layover with change of airlines - same terminal
    Jun 22, 2016
I have an overnight layover. Flying in on delta and leaving on el al. I have access to the lounge. Is there any way to get luggage from Delta and then go the lounge with my luggage and stay there for my layover?

No, you cannot take checked luggage to the lounge. Also the lounge isn't open overnight.

The lounge I'm talking about is open 24 hrs

  • 75 minutes?
    Jun 15, 2016
Hi! I'm flying from Berlin to JFK this saturday with AA, landing in NY at 4.56pm and have a connecting flight to Miami at 5.00 pm, also with AA. Both are in terminal 8. Is there any way that I can come through any faster? Like if I talk to the staff on my first plane? I'm underage and flying by myself for the first time. Thank you for your help.

  • India-JFK, then JFK-Pittsburgh in 8 hrs - coming out during layover?
    Jun 16, 2016
Hi, My nephew is flying from Mumbai, India into jfk terminal 2 on air India and has 8 hour layover before his connecting delta flight to Pittsburgh from terminal 4. Booking is done together but he has received 2 different pnr for air India and delta. I was wondering if he will have to stay within the airport or he can come out to meet me? Can he not cross over the immigration / security?

He will not arrive in Terminal 2. Air India flights arrive in Terminal 4. Upon arrival in JFK he will go through US Immigration, claim his bags and go through customs. At this point he will be in the US and outside security so you could meet him then. Before his flight to pittsburgh he will have to re-check his bags with Delta and go through security in T4.

    Thanks a lot.

  • 12 hours layover with children
    Jun 13, 2016
We have a 12 hours layover before our international flight to home country and we have two young kids, how we best spend this long hours? Could we book a hotel? But then are we allowed to go outside the terminal as we will be coming from Seattle and I'm not sure whether US departure stamp will be stamped there so we will not be allowed to New York!! Also our layover is from 6 am to 6 pm, how hotel booking will be, one or two nights?

The US does not do departure stamps. The airline just reports to immigration that you left when you board your flight out of the country. So yes, you could leave the airport at JFK. It's unlikely any hotel would allow a 6 or 7 AM check-in but you could call some to find out.

  • 7 hr 27 min Layover
    Jun 13, 2016
Hello. My wife and I have a 7 hr and 27 min layover at JFK this Wednesday. We arrive at JFK at 1:44 pm, and depart for Iceland on our connecting flight at 9:11 pm. Does this give us enough time to take the train into Manhattan?

It takes over an hour each way and you have to be at the airport at least 2 hours before your flight to Iceland, so that eats up 4-5 hours right there - so you'd have 3 hours to sightsee. It's up to you to determine if you think that's worth it.

  • 10 hrs lay over at JFK for International Students travellingto Lousian
    Jun 11, 2016
Dear friends, I would be reaching the JFK Airport on 19th Aug at 20:45 from India on Student Visa & my connecting flight is at 06:41 to MSY, Louisiana. I need to ask that where can I spend my 10 hrs of stay. As I would be alone so my parents are concerned. Can you please guide....

You can stay in the lobby of Terminal 4. US Airports are very safe and that terminal is open 24 hours.

  • 20 hours layout in NY
    Jun 9, 2016
Hi, I will arrive from LA at 1:40am and my connection flight is at 10pm. Is it ok to leave airport spent rest of the night in a hotel, walk around some turistic places and return to get my flight at night? Will I have to claim my luggage when I arrive in NYC from LA or can it goes direct to my final destiny? Thanks!!

Yes, there is fine. Due to the long connection you will have to claim your bags in New York.

  • Layover 2 hours. Enough?
    Jun 3, 2016
I am flying into JFK T4 from Abudhabi. Immigration and passport control will be done in Abudabi. I just have to collect my bag. I fly to Buffalo with JetBlue from T5. Is 2 hours enough? Thankyou.

Yes, that should be enough time as long as the flight from Abu Dhabi is on-time.

  • 15 hour layover domestic to international flight transfer
    Jun 3, 2016
Hi, I'm coming in on an AA red eye from LAX that arrives at JFK at 5am. I depart on a different reservation on Finn Air to Helsinki at 8pm. 1. Once I retrieve my bag in baggage claim after arriving domestic from LAX, can I take the Sky Train and check a bag and go through security at the international terminal 15 hours early? I'd really like to hang out and work/sleep in one of the lounges there. If not, what is the earliest I can check in for my Finn Air flight? Also, there's no way since AA and Finn Air are partners that they could just check my baggage through, is there? Finally, I have Admiral's Club, Centurion, and Priority Pass lounge access. Which lounge(s) do you recommend after I get through security at the International terminal? Thank you for any ideas.

There is no "International Terminal" Finnair Uses Terminal 8 - the same terminal as AA. if you are on two separate reservations then the Finnair desk will not open until about 5 PM.

  • 1:25 min layover
    Jun 3, 2016
Hi I am EU citizen transfering from London to Lima at JFK. Do I need to go to immirgation, pick up my baggage and check in again? The flights are operating by AA, same terminal. Thank you for any advise I have never transfered in US.

Yes, you have to do all that stuff. You will also go through security. 1 hr 25 minutes is really difficult.

  • Choice of 2hr13min layover at JFK vs 4hr33min returning from UK
    Jun 3, 2016
US Citizen will arrive on Delta from Scotland and transfer to Delta flight to Atlanta on a holiday Friday afternoon with bags checked through to Atlanta (all flights are same ticket). Does Delta/Edinburgh Scotland pre-clear or will I need to claim and recheck? Is 2 hours and 13 minutes sufficient time to clear customs and do what is required for bags? I would prefer the shorter (2hr13min vs 4 hr33min) layover but do not want to risk missing flight (with it being a holiday, I'm not sure there will be seats on the later flight). Thank you. This is a great site.

There is no Preclearance anywhere in the UK. You will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, and go through security. Sorry it took so long to respond.

  • Long layover, enough time for trip into NYC?
    Jun 3, 2016
We are arriving into JFK (domestic) on a red eye around 8am on jet blue on a Saturday, leaving via Aer Lingus at around 5:30 pm. We will check in our bags from our original departing west coast airport, with light carry ons. Is this enough time for a quick trip to check out a NYC landmark? I'm guessing we won't have to recheck our baggage once in JFK?

Yes, that would be enough time to ride the AirTrain/LIRR into the city and then come back. You'll want to leave Penn Station at about 2:30-3 PM.

  • Long connection - use lounge after security - exit airside and return
    May 20, 2016
Hello, I'll be doing GRU-JFK-FCO on AA, with a 12-hour layover. I know there is no arrival lounge on JFK. So, before I go to NYC during that time and as I'll have the boarding pass to FCO, is it possible to go through security, use the Admirals Club to freshen up, exit to the city and re enter to catch the flight? Will I be able to check a new bag with the goods I intend to buy? Thanks

  • 3 hours layover
    May 19, 2016
Hi folks, I'm arriving at JFK from Phoenix at 5.15pm with AA (think at Terminal 8) and then I'm flying to London with BA at 8.15pm from Terminal 7. With a registered baggage. So I've a 3-hours layover. Do you think it's enough? Thanks a lot

Yes, that should be enough time. If it's the same reservation just go to terminal 7. If not, the you need to re-check them under that plane,go through security, and then to terminal eight by walking or the train.

  • JFK very short layover - Urgent suggestion required
    May 9, 2016
I am flying from Austin to JFK by Jet Blue and the arrival time in JFK is 20:42. I have a connecting flight Emirates at Terminal 4 at 22:20 same night. Ideally I have a layover of ~ +1 Hour. I have two check-in baggage's. Could you let me know, is it sufficient to catch a connecting emirates flight with all security checks?

If this is purchased on the same reservation it's barely possible if everything goes smoothly. If it's two separate reservations, no, it's not enough time.

    Thanks for your reply.
