I'll arrive at JFK on Nov 2nd at 7:00pm coming from Heathrow heading to RDU, will have a 1h 35m layover in JFK, and it turned out that I won't be able to change the flight unless I'll be charged for that. Will I be able to make it? Knowing that I'll spend time in clearing passport and customs check-points.

If it won't be easy to catch the next plane, it turned out that the next one will be in the next day (about 12 hours apart) do you have recommendation about what I can do these time, it will be my first time in U.S. so I think getting to manhattan won't be easy for me, also hotels near the airport is quite expensive. Would you recommend staying overnight at JFK? Please let me know.Thanks.
It will be very difficult, especially if you have checked bags. Luckily immigration and security shouldn't be too busy at that time. If you do get stuck overnight, the best terminal to sleep in is the one you arrive in, Terminal 4.
I'll arrive in terminal 8, do you recommend to go to terminal 4 and stay there instead? I also have heard that terminal 5 is the best of them all, is it right?
You're on two separate reservations? Then you have zero chance of making it. Terminal 5 is nice, but it's not open overnight while Terminal 4 is.
I am arriving in JFK on Nov 1st 2:30PM.My connecting flight is on next day( Nov 2nd 3:00 PM).,I assume I have checkout my bags. How early can I check-in my bags the next day ? I am planning to keep the bags in lockers in the airport and visit the city a little
It depends on the airline you are flying, if it's a US airline with flights throughout the day, you can check them beginning in the early morning on the second. If it's a foreign airline with only a few flights per day, you may not be able to check them until about 11 AM-noon.
Can I leave airport with a 9hr layover
Yes, you can, although be aware that it takes nearly 90 minutes to get from JFK to Manhattan and you need to be back at JFK 2 hours before your second flight.
Is 90 minute via taxi because I'm reading that the subway would only take about 1 hr. 15 min. Am I wrong there? We have an 8 hour layover. We are flying to Iceland. Do we have to go through customs, etc?
Hello all,

I just booked a flight from Berlin back to San Francisco on New Year's Day, with a 1.5 hour layover in JFK. Has anyone had experience flying on January 1st? Will the airport be overcrowded?

Do you think 1.5 hours is sufficient time to grab our bags and make it through customs?

Are both of your flights on the same reservation? January 1st is a moderately busy day. That is barely enough time.
Yes, I booked the entire reservation through the American Airlines website, although the Berlin - JFK leg is operated by AirBerlin
That's barely enough time if everything goes perfectly.
Thank you! After more research I was able to change my flight to extend my layover to 3.5 hours.
Please help me give some idea. On end of November I need to book a flight from Vietnam To Tampa, Florida. I am thinking to layover at JFK Airport for sightseeing.
If I layover at JFK 7hrs before next flight to Tampa so do I make it to see Liberty Statue and come back to JFK?
Or if I layover 24hrs so do I need to buy luggage for Jet Blue airline? Because if I book connecting flight dirrect transit in JFK to Tampa I got 2 free checked bags but not enough time for sightseeing.
Please help me if you can. I never have been in US before. Thanks a lot.
No, that is not enough time. The Statue of Liberty is located on an island. Going to see it itself is a 4-5 hour endeavor. Add in the time to get there and time for immigration, customs, and security and 7 hours isn't nearly enough time. Yes, if you buy a separate ticket on JetBlue you will have to pay for your checked bags on your JetBlue flight.
A lot of thanks for your answer. :)
I've found a connecting flight from SGN-TPE-JFK-TPA in the same booking but layover at JFK for 20hrs. When I arrived JFK I need to pick my bags for security checks and drop back for the next flight right? But if I layover in JFK for 20hrs so do I need to take care my bags on my own or do I can do early drop bags after security checks?
Thanks for helping me. :)
if the layover is overnight you will have to take your bags with you and won't be able to re-check them until the morning.
I'm a US citizen who will be arriving at JFK on a Saturday evening with only a 2 hour layover to get through customs. My airlines are Emirates to JetBlue so I know the terminals are next to each other. Also I will NOT have any checked baggage to claim. Will 2 hours be enough time to make my connection?
With no checked bags that should be just enough time if everything goes smoothly. Traveling on a Saturday evening will also help.
We have a 4 hour layover at JFK, our flight arrives at terminal 5 and we want to hang out in one of the vip lounges in terminal 7. Will we need to go thru security at terminal 7 and then back thru on 5, or is there a way to walk to terminal 7 from 5 without going thru security?
Those terminals are not connected to any other terminals inside security. You won't be able to do it.
I am from Nepal , my question is do I need a visa just for connecting flights in JFK USA , not leaving the airport only there for layover
Yes, you do need a US Transit visa.
hello is it easy to get transit visa in US embassy? bcoz I have only lay over 1hr there..same situation I dnt go out only at the airport.
Do we have time to meet someone just outside of security for any length of time for a quick visit?
If the flight from Maine arrives on-time, yes, you would have about an hour to spare before you would have to get back in line.
Im not US citizen will be arriving at JFK from DXB on Emirate airline in Terminal 4 @ 14:15, and will fly to ATL on Delta Airline in Terminal 4 @ 17:20. It is a separate reservations and I believe we will have to go through US immigration, claim our bags and go through customs and recheck them again... my question can we make it in 3.20 hrs?
That should be just about enough time as long as the flight from Dubai is on-time.
Thank dear, Is it possible if i check in online to buy myself more time and then drop my luggage at the counter? Is there anything you may suggest that will help to save/buy time?
Many thanks in advance.
Yes, checking in online will save you a little time, but not much as you will still have to go to the Delta check-in counter to check your bags.
