  • Connection time Delta to Delta

My flight from MSP arrives at JFK Terminal 4 at 9:19pm and my flight to England departs from Terminal 1 at 10:06. Although Expedia booked this through Virgin Airlines these are all on Delta flights and the Delta website says allow 2 hours for international connections. Do I need to be worried? Thanks.

If they are both on Delta then your flight will not depart from Terminal 1, it will depart from Terminal 4. Even if your flight to London is operated by Virgin and departs from Terminal 1, 2 hours is plenty of time to take the Airtrain from 4 to 1 and go through security.

Hi- I have a layover at JFK. to San Fran. from Boston. Is 56 minutes enough time to make it my connecting flights? Flying Jetblue.

Yes, that should be plenty of time if the first flight is on-time. You just have to walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal 5.

My flight British Airways denmark to london, london to jfk/nyc, immigration, custom, Transfer to Copa nyc to panama,, panama to sudamerica.. I have to rechecked my baggage in copa?

Yes, at JFK you will arrive, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs. If your bags are tagged through to COPA then you can drop your bags at the re-check desk then take the AirTrain to Terminal 4, get your COPA boarding passes and go through security. if your bags aren't tagged through to Copa, you will have to take them with you to Terminal 4 to re-check with Copa.

So, I didn't my luggage by Copa, only has tagged by British Airways last tagged say final destination, I drop my bags on drop on JFK,So I didn't get my bags..What the next step to get my bags...what is the area in JFK airport with luggage no sent them to the airline company...Copa is taking slow action to get my bags. So I wanna do something by myself to get my bags. I am in my country right now. Thanks for your replay

The British Airways bag office at JFK probably has your bags.

Unless you know someone in New York who can pick your bags up from the British Airways baggage office and then ship them to you in Costa Rica, you will probably never see your bags again.

sorry, for some reason I thought you were in Costa Rica, but the advise is the same.

I bought first ticket from Hyderabad to JFK (emirates) and second ticket is Delta airlines from JFK to buffalo. Layover is 2 hours. Please let me know the proper procedure for baggage agreement between emirates and Delta. Also please tell me the departure terminal number for JFK2BUFFALO

That's not enough time. Emirates does not have to check your bags through to Delta. The JFK-Buffalo flight will depart from Terminal 4, the same terminal as your Emirates flight will arrive.

Thanks ZAP. I will plan accordingly. I heard there is baggage interconnect partnership between different airlines. Any thoughts about it

Yes, but the agreement is only for those purchasing all tickets on the same reservation.

I am arriving from London into JFK on American and flying on to Cincinnati again on American, I know I have to clear customs, pick-up bag, etc. But can I drop the bag and go to my gate without exiting the terminal? Or do I have to go all the way out and come back in again through security, etc.?

Once you claim your bag and go through US Customs, you will drop your bag at the re-check desk, go up to the departure level and go through security.

Thanks for your reply, very helpful

  • Minimum Connection Time

Hi, we are a family of 5 flying into JFK on Emirates, arriving at 13.50. We have a connection flight booked to Miami on AA which originally was departing at 4.45pm. AA have now changed this flight to 4pm and am concerned that this is not enough time. The next AA flight is 5.15pm but is not direct and takes an extra 3 hours. I really am not sure what to do here...keep original flight or make the change. Any advise would be appreciated.

I I would change to the later flight. 2 hours is not a reasonable connection time for International to Domestic in two separate terminals on two separate itineraries at JFK.

  • Delta Arrival from Washington to Airberlin

Please help, My flight arrive from Washington at JFK at 3.12pm with Delta and my next flight with Air Berlin at 5.25pm, is that enough time and do I have to clear custom etc. Thank you

Forgot to mention, the two bookings are separate bookings

You do not go through US Customs when leaving the US. you just need to claim your bags from Delta and take them to the AirBerlin check in counter in Terminal 8 and re-check them, then go through security. You should have barely enough time.

Thank you for your reply, initially I had 3 hours in between but Delta just changed my flight, it sounds risky I need to change to earlier flight with 10 hours lay over, so frustrating

  • Connection time at JFK from Nassau to Moscow

I see a flight on Expedia that arrives into JFK from Nassau at 12:52pm (JetBlue T5) on a Monday and departs to Moscow at 2:25pm (Transaero T4), is this even possible? Is this possible with carry-on bag?

Yes it's possible. You will preclear US immigration and customs in Nassau. All you have to do is change terminals and go through security.

My itinerary includes flight from DEL to JFK with Air India and then JFK to BOS with Delta. I have 3:35 hr layover at JFK. Is this time enough to transit? Also, do I have to claim my luggage and recheck-in at delta counter or just drop off at custom check? Can you also tell what terminal these flights will be arriving and departing from at JFK? Also how long does it take at immigration check line? I'm a permanent resident. Thanks.

If both tickets were purchased on the same reservation you can re-check at the re-check desk. Otherwise you will have to bring it to the Delta counter. You will depart from Terminal 4 as well.

Thanks for the reply! How about arrival? Will AI flight arrive at terminal 4?

Yes, you will also arrive in Terminal 4.

At JFK is there access from T1 to T8 behind airport security, or is leaving and returning through security required?

Those terminals are not connected inside security. You will have to take the AirTrain between terminals and go through security.

My Alitalia return flight is scheduled to arrive at JFK at 2:55 pm; is a 5:15 flight to DCA or IAD too tight? What is the ideal amount of time for this type of connection? Many thanks for your tips!

5:15 would be barely possible. I'd want a flight a little later, but you can probably make 5:15 work. Then again, Alitalia isn't known for their punctuality.

I arrive in T4 with Ethiad at 09.10 and have a JetBlue flight from T5 at 11.10. I understand that (1) both Immigration and Customs Clearance will take place in Abu Dhabi and (2) baggage will be checked through to the final (US) destination. Will I have sufficient time to make the connection assuming I will have hand luggage only and will be fast on my feet!

Yes, that should be plenty of time. You just have to take the AirTrain from T4 to T5 and go through security.

  • Checked luggage (Domestic to International)

Hello, I'm flying into JFK (domestic flight) then catching an international flight overseas. Both flights are booked on the same airline and same confirmation number. Since I won't have to go through customs at JFK, will my checked bags follow me to my destination or will I have to claim my bags and re-check them on the international flight? Thanks!!

No will not need to re-check. Since it's on the same airline and you are not entering the United States from a foreign country.

  • Transit time domestic to international

Hi I am travelling back from Pittsburgh arriving with Delta at 07:15 and catching the 08:15 Virgin flight out to LHR. Is this enough time? seems very tight to me, but didn't know whether it was faster going domestic to international than the other way round. Thanks Chris

Yes, going domestic to International is much faster as there is no US Immigration or customs when leaving the US. All you have to do at JFK is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal 4. an hour should be enough time.

Thanks for the advice and swift response

  • JFK connection from London Heathrow to Chicago
    Aug 27, 2015

Hi, I'm considering getting a connecting flight from London Heathrow to Chicago with the connection at JFK. The flight from Heathrow to JFK is with Virgin and the flight from JFK to Chicago O'Hare will be with Delta. The time between flights is 1hr40m, will this be enough time? Could you explain the process at JFK for this type of flight please. Also I'm assuming Virgin and Delta work together therefore I won't have to get a separate boarding pass at JFK. Could you confirm please. Thanks!

I should mention this is all under one reservation, so does this mean I wont have to claim my bags I can just go straight onto the next flight instead?

You will arrive in Terminal 4, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go up to the departure level and through security and to your departure gate which will also be in Terminal 4. You barely have enough time assuming everything goes smoothly.

Always give yourself ample time in between flights for connections because you do not know if something can happen BUT because it's still the end of summer travels, you will need AT LEAST 2 hours to go through Customs& Immigration(still busy season with millions of travelers!) And you are traveling during the busy hours of the day
