  • 1.5 hrs enough to transfer from T5 to T1 at JFK with hand luggage?
    May 30, 2015
    1
My flight is expected to arrive at T5 JFK at 21:20 from San Diego (Jetblue). I was considering buying another flight to London that departs from JFK T1 at 23:00. However I am not sure this will be enough time even if I have hand luggage only. Any ideas/advice? Many thanks in advance!

It's possible, especially if you are able to check in for your London flight online before you leave San Diego. However if you miss the connection due to your Jetblue flight being late don't expect Norwegian to be very forgiving.

We have an incoming flight on Jet Blue arriving at 8:00 am with a connecting flight on African Airlines at 11:15. Is that enough time to transfer flights & will we need to go through security again?

Yes, that should be enough time and yes, you will have to go through security again in Terminal 4. If you purchased your tickets separately, you will have to transfer your baggage between terminals.

I'll be flying JetBlue from DC to JFK, with one checked baggage. My flight arrives at 9:30 PM in terminal 5. On a separate ticket, I'm flying from JFK to Stockholm on Norwegian Air, which leaves at 12 AM. Is 2.5 hours enough transit time to deplane, pick up baggage, then catch an international flight with check in?

Yes, that should be enough time. By the way, the airport code for Stockholm is ARN.

We are flying into JFK on AA and arrive at 4:05 pm. Our AA flight to Rome leaves at 4:45 pm. Gates are across from each other - is this enough time or should we book an earlier flight into JFK?

We have a AA flight from SFO to JFK arriving at 4:05 pm. Our AA flight to Rome leaves at 4:45 pm. Are we going to be able to make that flight? We are carrying on our luggage.

It is possible. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal 8. However it obviously leaves very little time to spare if the first flight is delayed.

hi i have a flight arriving at 12:35 pm with swiss air from zurich and have booked a flight seperately with delta to boston at 3:30 pm. is that enough time? do i have to pick up my luggage in between flights?

Yes, that should be enough time. And yes, you will have to pick up your bags anyway to go through US Customs. Since you are purchasing a separate ticket you will then have to take them to the Delta check in counter and pay a fee to check them to Boston.

I have a flight on the 30th of May from Bucharest to Syracuse Hancock International with connection on JFK. I land on JFK at 19:00 on terminal 1 and my next flight(for Syracuse)with Delta Airlines is at 21:50. It is my first flight to the USA and I am coming with a F1 student visa. Can you please tell me if I have to complete my I-94 form on JFK? And if I have to do that in there, do I have time to arrive at the next flight? Should I claim my baggage if I have only one ticket from Bucharest to Syracuse? Thank you very much!

They will have you fill out your I-94 form on the plane. You should have plenty of time. You will have to claim your luggage to go through US Customs but you can re-check it at the transfer desk right after customs. Then you will take the AirTrain from T1 to T4 and go through security.

I will arrive at terminal 1 at 1735 and need to get to terminal 4 for a flight that leaves for Milan at 1834. Will I have enough tome?

What airport? What airlines? Where are you arriving from? Were your tickets purchased separately or together? Will you have checked bags? I can't really answer your question with the information you have given.

I travel from Columbus to JFK to Paris to Bangalore. The entire journey of 3 flights is on 1 single reservation. CMH to JFK arrives in terminal 4 and JFK to Paris leaves from terminal 1. Do i need to collect baggage at terminal 4 or will the baggage be checked all the way through to paris/bangalore? what are the activities/procedures involved in getting from terminal 4 to terminal 1

No, you do not need to claim your baggage in JFK. All you have to do in JFK is take the AirTrain from T4 to T1 and go through security.

  • 2 hr Connection time enough for int'l flight

I am flying from Orlando to Dhaka (Bangladesh) on 16 July 2015. Scheduled flight with Jetblu from MCO to JFK (T5) will suppose to arrive on 21:00 and connected flight to Dubai with Emirates scheduled to fly on 23:00 from JFK (T4). I bought the ticket from american express website as a single trip (from MCO to DAC). Do I have enough time to caught the flight? Do I need to collect baggage at JFK and transfer transit counter? or I have to check in my bag at MCO and collect from DAC?

Your baggage should be checked through to Dhaka in Orlando. All you have to do in JFK is take the AirTrain from T5 to T4 and go through security.

Will 2 hr enough for this procedure? Or will this be tight for changing terminal and go through security?

2 hours should be enough time.

    Thanks

I will be travelling from Istanbul to New York. My flight should land at 4:50 PM at Terminal 1, and I should catch a New York to Denver flight at 7:00 PM in Terminal 2. Do I have enough time to make it? I am not an US citizen so that means I will have to go through customs and immigration, and if JFK is full.... It will be Thursday afternoon when I land, if that makes a difference... I am using two different companies, the first being Turkish Airlines and the second Delta Airlines.... What should I do in case I miss my flight? From what I could see, the Turkish planes landed on average around 5:15 PM the last couple of days...

That leaves you enough time. if you purchased your tickets separately you will have to take your bags with you to your departure terminal. Note that Delta domestic flights can leave from Terminal 2 or 4. Check Delta.com on the day of your flight. If you miss your flight you will be stuck in New York overnight.

Thank you very much! Delta should put me on the next flight at no expense, if the fault is not mine, right? Or I should be paying penalties for the missed flight?

If you purchased your tickets on the same itinerary they will put you on the next available flight. If you purchased two separate tickets they will likely be less accommodating.

  • Is 1.5 hours enough time to between flights from Brazil to RDU
    May 22, 2015

The flight I'm looking at will arrive from Brazil (GRU) on a Saturday at 06:29 AM. I will need to collect my bags, get through customs and catch a flight to RDU at 08:07 AM. The Airline is American - in on a 777 and out on a Embraer ERJ-140.

Yes, that should be enough time but leaves no time to spare for delays.

Thanks for the feedback. Based on your experience, do you think there will be delays at 6:29 AM on a Saturday morning (i know there are a lot of variables, but would like your gut feel). Is this a risk you would take?

Generally flights from Brazil run fairly on-time because the aircraft spend all day waiting in Brazil and there is no congestion in the US that early in the morning.

Hi. I will be arriving to JFK Terminal 4 at 14:15 from Dubai via Emirates with connecting flight to SYR via Jetblue Terminal 5 at 17:00. Itinerary all in one ticket. Do I have enough time to get to my flight and what will be the baggage procedure with addtional checked bag?

Yes, that should be enough time.

Hi, I reach Terminal 4 (Domestically) and have 1.5hr to go to Terminal 1 to take an overseas flight. Is it enough time? And what s the fastest way??

If both tickets were purchased together on one reservation, yes that should be enough time. The only route from T4 to T1 is to take the AirTrain. You will have to go through security in T1.

No, tickets are seperate. However I'm traveling business class; so in theory is 1.5hrs enough to collect my bags, use the airtrain and check in in T1??

It's possible, but it absolutely depends on that first flight being on-time and your bags coming out quickly. You only have 30 minutes get off the plane, collect your bags, change terminals, and get to the check in counter. I personally would not have booked that connection.
