  • Will I have time

Hello, I will be flying to the US from London and will land at JFK Terminal 8 at 15:40. I will then have to catch a flight to Washington Ronald Reagan at 16:55, also from Terminal 8, leaving a transfer time of 1hr15mins . My flights were all booked at the same time and so are all on one ticket. Will this be enough time and will I have to collect my luggage and re-check or not? I've read conflicting things. Never flown to the US so all advice is appreciated!

  • Transfer from T8 to T4 - is 1h16 enough time?

Hello, I am trying to book a flight from BOS-STT (St. Thomas, USVI). The itinerary is AA330 BOS-JFK (arrives T8) and DL454 JFK-STT (departs T4). The layover time is 1:16. The connection is legal (I assume) because I can book it on AA.com. Is 1:16 enough time to get from T8 to T4? I gather I will need to take the train and re-clear security, but my bags should be checked through to STT since the itinerary is booked as one. This will be on a Sunday, so I gather the train frequency will be decreased. According to FlightAware, the BOS-JFK leg is usually a little early, and the JFK-STT leg is usually delayed 30+ mins. Any insight would be helpful before I book ourselves a miserable start to our holiday. Cheers!

Train frequency is not reduced on Sunday. Sunday is a busy travel day. You have the procedure correct. I think you should have enough time.

  • Is it enought time?

Hi! I am international student with F1 visa and will lend to USA (not the first time) on 11 of August from Ukraine to JFK. If I lend at 2:20pm and I want to buy domestic tickets now to SLC at 5:30pm, is it going to be enough to have 3h10min to lick up my baggage, go through international security, etc? I don't know terminal yet...

That is probably enough time. Although if you provide more specifics I can help you more.

Sorry, now I figured out how to find some info about those flights. The flight I would like to buy back to SLC, Utah is DL 458, JFK-SLC, depart at 5:30pm, Airbus A320. I am buying right now the flight from Ukraine, Kyiv to JFK, Flight 231. Will arrive at 2:20 pm, Terminal 7. I will have my baggage to claim, then to go through the security, international security, etc... I will show my new VISA. The question is, will it be enough to have 3h10 minutes to do all those procedures? I do not look suspicious, just a F1 student.

if I arrive at T8 and am connecting to a flight in T4, do I have to go through security again?

Yes, you do, those terminals are only connected by the AirTrain which runs outside security.

American Airlines from Montreal to Cancun with connection in JFK, both flights connects in JFK T8-C. I have 1h15 to do the connection, Im I going to make it or lost my second flight?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Montreal. All you have to do in JFK is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You should have plenty of time. Even if your first flight is late and you miss your connection you don't "lose" your second flight, you are rebooked on the next available flight.

  • Terminal connection between T8 to T7 (ORD-JFK-LHR)

Hi, I will go to London at Jun 13. But I have no idea connection information in JFK's terminals. I think I approximately have 2h 05min for connection, and my tickets are separate. Is that sufficient for boarding at T8?

Yes, if your tickets were purchased together on one reservation that should be plenty of time. All you have to do is take the AirTrain from T8 to T7 and go through security.

    Thank you so much

I will be arriving at JFK at 13:20 on an Aer Lingus flight, two separate tickets, carry on only & departing on delta flight at 15:05. Will I have enough time to catch my delta flight? Flying first class on delta.

That should be barely enough time. You will arrive in Terminal 5 and get your checked bags, then check the delta app on your phone or delta.com to find out your departure gate. It could be in Terminal 2 or 4. Take the AirTrain to your departure terminal, re-check your bags with Delta, then go through security.

  • 43 min layover enough flying Delta from JFK to Savannah?
    Apr 23, 2015
    2
This may be a stupid question, but I really never fly-- I have a Delta flight from Pittsburgh that connects at JFK, flying to Savannah. We arrive at 1:12 and depart at 1:55. We wil not have any checked bags. Is 43 minutes enough time to make our connection to Savannah? Thank you!

If your flights are both in the same terminal you should be okay. But find out what Delta's boarding requirements are. You often have to be at the gate 15 mins or more before departure time

That's enough time if your first flight is on-time. Both flights will probably be in Terminal 4.

  • Arriving domestic Jet Blue and connecting International with Lan Peru
    Apr 23, 2015

Hi, I'll be arriving from Denver at 9:00 pm in JFK from a Jet Blue flight and I have to get to my flight to Lima at 11:50 pm with LAN. Can I check in my bags in Denver and just get to customs on my destination or do I need to get my bags in NY and go trough customs there? Either way, is almost 3 hours enough time?

Did you purchase your tickets together or separately? If together you will not have to see your bags again until you get to Lima. Otherwise you will have to claim them from JetBlue and bring them to LAN on the AirTrain. Either way 3 hrs is enough time.

  • Delta domestic to international terminal in 1 hr 42 min?

Five of us traveling together with Delta flight from SLC to JFK arriving 5:48 pm (unknown terminal). Departing on Delta flight at 7:30 pm to Frankfurt. All tickets bought at same time, same airline, one ticket for whole trip. Can we make this connection? What can we do to make this as quick and smooth as possible? We have luggage and are US citizens. Youngest is 12 yr old. Thanks for your help.

Yes, that is a pretty easy connection. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You will arrive in Terminal 2 or 4 and depart from Terminal 4. If you arrive in 2, Delta runs a shuttle bus inside security to 4.

Thank you so much! So I don't need to go through baggage claim and customs and re-checkin? That's great! Was worried.

No, you do not go through US customs when leaving the US. You will go through Schengen passport control when you get to Frankfurt.

  • from terminal 4 to terminal 5

Hi, I'm supposed to park at Terminal 4 at 5:50 AM and catch a flight departing at 7:30 am from Terminal 5 Do you think I can catch the flight? Thanks in advance.

Is the flight to Terminal 4 domestic or International? Did you book your tickets together or separately? Will you have checked bags?

Thank you so much! So I don't need to go through baggage claim and customs and re-checkin? That's great! Was worried.

hi, my flight is international and i didnt booked together and i need to checked bags again in terminal 5. what did you think

I think it will be difficult but not impossible to do it. You will need to be at the JetBlue counter with your bags by 7 AM at the absolute latest (preferably 6:45), so that leaves you about 55 minutes to get through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through Customs, and take the AirTrain to T5, assuming your first flight is on-time.

  • Connecting Terminal 4 to Terminal 5
    Apr 19, 2015

Arriving Swiss Air 3:50pm Terminal 4, thinking about buying Jet Blue flight leaving at 5:38pm Terminal 5. I may have to check a bag for Jet Blue flt, but if that makes it too tight I could probably get down to a carry on only. Is it possible to go from Terminal 4 to Terminal 5 without going through security again?

Upon arrival you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags and go through US Customs. At that point you will be outside security. You can then take the AirTrain to Terminal 5 and re-check your bag with JetBlue if necessary. That should be barely enough time as long as your first flight is on-time. Check in online for your JetBlue flight before you leave Europe. Personally I think it's a little risky and if possible I would book a bit later flight.

Thank you! My only other reasonably priced flight that's not late night is 7:30pm from LGA. Would have 2.extra.hours, but would have to change airports instead of terminals. Might be best bet though.

  • Delta to Korean Air, Connecting from Terminal 2 to 1
    Apr 19, 2015

My wife's Delta flight from TPA to JFK around 10PM, connecting to Korean Air from JFK to ICN at 00:50AM. I think connecting will be from Terminal 2 to 1, isn't it? Question 1: Does she have enough time to make connection? Question 2: Ticket agency issued her tickets as separate tickets, but Delta call center/customer service told us they can check bag through. In case she has to claim her luggage and re-check-in, does she have time? Question 3: Where is transfer desk of Korean Air inside JKF where she can get boarding pass for flight from JFK to ICN (Seoul)?

Her flight from Tampa may arrive in Terminal 4 or Terminal 2. Yes, she should have enough time whether she has to transfer the bags herself or not. She will have to exit security to get to Terminal 1. So she can access the regular Korean Air check-in desk rather than a transfer desk.

Thank you, ZAP! We never connect in JFK, how can she get to T1? I assume there is train or something, Delta told us there is a DELTA shuttle bus, can it get to T1 within security zone?

The Delta shuttle bus only runs between T2 and T4. The only way to get to T1 is the AirTrain, which runs outside security.

  • terminal 7 to 8 connection

Like an earlier post four of us have purchased 2 separate tickets for travel on 8 July: one is from Icelandair, arriving JFK at 12:30 Terminal 7, then depart JFK on American at 12:55 terminal 8. Would I have enough time to clear customs, pick up baggage, check in, go through security for the American flight? I can change my ticket to have a 18:00 flight from Newark or LGA if first option not possible.

No, 25 minutes is not nearly enough time. You'll have to switch to a later flight.

Error on AA depature time, flight departs at 14:55, so 2 hours 25 minutes between flights.

  • Terminal 1 to 5 in 2 hours?

I have a Norwegian Air flight that arrives at 8:05pm on a Sunday (T1) and a JetBlue flight that departs to IAD at 10:10pm (T5). Is that enough time to go through customs, pick up bags, and check in again? I may be able to only have a carry on...

With carry-on only it should definitely be enough time if your first flight is on-time. With Checked bags you should be OK but it doesn't leave much time to spare if there are any delays.
