  • connecting turkish airlines flight to dom. american airlines flight

Hi, I am hoping for some good advice. I am flying from Istanbul to JFK on Turkish Airlines, landing at 11.20 am in T1, and have to catch a connection on American Airlines leaving JFK T8 at 15:20. I'm worried whether this 4 hours of connection time is enough to make it to second flight. I have to go through customs and borders first, then collect bags in that terminal, transit to T8, check in bags again at American Airlines plus go through security at T8? I am not a US citizen. I bought separate tickets, and I plan to check 1 bag and 1 backpack.

  • VCE-JFK-AUS WITH A 2:21HR LAYOVER?

I'm traveling VCE-JFK-AUS. My plane lands in JFK at 5:04 at terminal 4 and my connecting flight leaves at 7:25 at terminal 2. I have 2 checked bags and a carryon. Having never flown international before, is 2:21hrs enough time to make the connecting flight? Because its the last flight from JFK to AUS for the day.

Yes, that should be enough time if your flight from Venice is on-time.

  • Transferring from international flight to domestic flight
    Jul 1, 2015

Hi, I am transferring from my international flight which is from LHR to JFK on Norwegian air to my domestic flight from JFK to Buffalo, NY on JetBlue. My international flight gets in at 9:20pm and my next flight is due to leave at 10:50pm. I am hold a british passport and have a tourist visa. Do you think I will be able to get to my 2nd flight in that hour and a half? Thanks

No, I do not. If you are planning on bringing checked baggage I see no way that you will get your bags to the JetBlue counter in Terminal 5 before the bag cutoff, especially considering that the Norwegian flight is frequently late. I would plan on spending the night in NYC and flying to Buffalo the next morning.

Hi, I am an Indian Female flying DEL-CDG-JFK-MSY on a single ticket with Delta. I will be landing on Terminal T1 in JFK and have my connecting flight to MSY from Terminal T-4. I have a gap of 2hrs 04 min between the flights. I would like to know if i need to pass through immigration on T1 for my connecting flight. How much time would it take to board a train after deboarding the my flight at JFK and much further to Terminal 4. Thanks in advance.

Yes, upon arrival in T1 you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, and re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then take the AirTrain to Terminal 4, and go through security. You should have enough time. Also check the monitors or delta.com or the Delta App, there's a chance your flight to MSY may depart from Terminal 2, in which case it would be better to take the AirTrain there.

  • JFK Terminal 4 to toerminal 8

our flight with swiss arrives at 13.00 on terminal 4 on jfk, our flight to nashville departs on 3.15 pm with american airlines on terminal 8, is this enough time with bagage and immigration?

    sorry 13.00 = 01.00 pm

If you purchased two separate tickets that will be difficult but not impossible. You will have to transfer your bags yourself from T1 to T8 and pay a checked bag fee. You'll also have to go through security again in T8.

  • Delta connections from Shannon Airport through JFK to Raleigh Durham

I am travelling with delta from Shannon Ireland and arriving in JFK and then have 2 hours for connection with Delta flight to Raleigh Durham. Is terminal 4 the terminal for both arrivals and departures? Do I have enough time in 2 hours?

Yes, that is plenty of time. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Shannon so all you have to do in JFK is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Thanks, so international arrivals and domestic departures are both in terminal 4 JF for Delta flights..

Delta domestic flights can depart from Terminal 2 or 4. However, the RDU flights appear to all leave from Terminal 4.

  • Singapore to Boston (via Doha and JFK)

Is 1hr 15mins enough time for me to transit between flights in JFK? Flying into JFK from Doha on Qatar Airways, and American Airlines from JFK to BOS. -I'm on a student visa -Single ticket (from Qatar Airways site) -Singapore Passport -Chinese-Indian heritage with a Muslim first name Thank you

It's possible but doesn't leave much time to spare. The official minimum time for that connection is 90 minutes and I recommend 2 hours for International to Domestic connections at JFK. At least everything will be in Terminal 8, which is the most simple modern terminal at JFK.

    Thanks ZAP! You're the Best!

  • where to handover luggage in JFK after immigration and customs clearen
    Jun 28, 2015

I am traveling from Hyderabad, INdia to Rochester , NY , USA in EMIRATES flight. Entry point in USA is JFK international airport , NY. I have connecting flight to Rochester , NY on JETBLUE on same single reservation. 1) Any help, Where do I handover my check-in lugguage after I clear my immigraiton and customs in JFK international airport ? 2) Is 2 hours sufficient time to catch connecting flight ?

There will be a re-check desk right after you clear US customs. It will be hard to miss. You will then take the AirTrain to T5 and go through security. Yes, 2 hours should be enough time if your Emirates flight is on-time.

  • Mr. ZAP, please assist! Many thanks!

Hi. I need help and I'm a bit terrified now with this travel arrangement I have. Will be flying soon in July. Pls note I am a citizen of another country and hold Multiple entry tourist visa for both Canada and US. Below is my itinerary. My country-JFK-YVR-JFK-YYZ-JFK-Back to my country I had a round trip ticket from my country to NY of course and will stay there for 3 days only. After my 3-day stay in NY, will fly to Vancouver departing JFK via Cathay Pacific. My concern starts here. A.Via Cathay, Ill be departing from YVR at 22.50 on jul 23 thu going back to JFK NY, arriving in at 7am jul 24 fri. 1) will there still be US pre clearance services at that time? Given my YVR departure sked? Is it open 24 hrs? 2) As this is my first fly with this type of arrangement, pls advise the steps/procedures from checking in to security to custom, etc with or without Preclearance. 3) Upon my JFK arrival, will I undergo another security check and interview with the officer? B. Using a separate ticket on my way to Toronto. Via TAM, upon my arrival in Jfk on a very SAME DAY, departing at 11am going to Toronto with 4 hours for preparation: 4) will that be enough time for me to check in again, etc given i need to transfer to T8 from T7? Do I need to exit the airport to access T8 via airtrain or no need? 5) do i have to go through Security checks again and US customs, etc? If you could kindly tell me the steps for this one too going to YYZ from JFK? 6) Lastly, will the officer not questioned me why I need to leave US again when I just arrived US from YVR? If only flight directly from YVR-YYZ is not pricey, then I should have booked that. Any opinion will do. Thank you very much!

The Cathay flight from Vancouver does not use preclearance. You will arrive in Terminal 7, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, and go through US Customs. 4 hours should be plenty of time for your transfer. The Airtrain is outside security, but you will be outside security when you clear customs in T7. You will go through security after you check in for your TAM flight. There is no US exit customs, so no US officer will question you when you are leaving. You will o through Canadian Immigration and Customs when you arrive in Toronto. On your return, also be aware that TAM does not use pre-clearance either. So you will have to go through US Immigration and customs before flying back to your home country in JFK.

Thanks so much ZAP! You're a heavent sent! Gteatly appreciated it. on my fligjt back to JFK, its a separate ticket. This time it's air canada? will there be pre clearance? if there is about how many hours should I be in the airport befire my departure? thank you once again. -Kath

Oh, if you are flying Air Canada back to JFK from YYZ then you will go through preclearance in YYZ. You should get to YYZ at least 2 hours before your flight because of this.

When i exit US going to either Yvr or yyz, will the immigration do a stamp on my passport? And no more interview? regards, Lizzie

My daughter is arriving on a Jet Blue flight in terminal 5 from PBI. She is checking 1 bag. She then is taking a Lufthansa flight from terminal 4. How does she get from terminal 5to4 and will she have to go back through security?

She takes the AirTrain between terminals, and yes, she will have to go through security in Terminal 4.

    Thank you!

I have an hour layover between my flights (both Delta). I arrive in Terminal 4 and depart in Terminal 2, will there be enough time for me to move between terminals? Should I take the Delta shuttle?

Yes, take the shuttle. Yes, that should be enough time if your first flight is on-time and domestic/precleared. Also double check on the monitors or the delta app once you arrive in JFK to ensure you actually have to go to T2.

  • ATHENS - JFK - SFO

We will be arriving at JFK at 4 PM. My connection to SFO leaves at 6 PM. Will we have enough time to retrieve our checked bags and go through customs?

Assuming both flights were purchased on the same reservation, yes, that is enough time.

Both flights are on the same reservation with KLM. Does that mean that the airline will hold the outbound SFO flight if the inbound JFK flight is delayed?

No, airlines don't hold flights. It means you will be put on the next available flight from SFO. Note that both of your flights will be operated by Delta.

  • Flying from Dublin to Tampa via JFK
    Jun 26, 2015

Aer Lingus is advertising the following flight El109 from Dublin to Tampa going through JFK arriving in terminal 5 at 18.30, my flight to Tampa, El225, goes at 19.30 with Jet Blue which is also from terminal 5. I will be going through US Customs in Dublin. The full flight will be booked through Aer Lingus. Is this possible or should I look at another option?

That's definitely possible. All you will have to do in JFK is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

I assume that it would be unlikely that my hold luggage would transfer in that short time

That's an incorrect assumption. An hour is not a short time to connect a bag at all. Especially within the same terminal.

Thank you so much for your information, I am really impressed with your very prompt and positive replies to my queries

  • Delta BNA-JFK to Aer Lingus JFK-DUB
    Jun 25, 2015

I booked my flights separately. Delta BNA-JFK arrives at 10:30 am and Aer Lingus departs at 12:00, I don't have any checked bags, just a carry on. I don't have gate or terminal numbers for my Delta flight arrival but Aer Lingus looks like it is leaving from terminal 5. I'm concerned about having enough time between flights to make my terminal connection, because Aer Lingus just sent me a confirmation email for my flight and it says check in closes 75 minutes before departure.. Do I have enough time? Will I have to go through security again?

BNA-JFK will probably arrive in Terminal 4. Check in online for your Aer Lingus flight if you can. You will have to take the Airtrain from T4 to T5 and go through security.

    Thank you!

Sorry, I thought of another question.. I forgot to put in that my flight on Aer Lingus is international (JFK-DUB), does that change anything as far as making my connection on time? I am just worried about their 75 minute check-in cut off, but if I can check-in on my phone or online then I should just have to deal with security, right? Thanks again!

Correct, if you are able to check in online then you will just have to go through security. There is no US Customs when leaving the US.

I am flying from Barcelona to JFK and then on to San Diego with the same airline and at the same terminal 8. What is the procedure please? Do I go through immigration and claim my bags in JFK or are my bags sent through to the onward flight??? Thank you

At JFK you will go through US Immigration, claim your baggage, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go up to the departure level and through security.
