  • Travel to DCA connecting at JFK

Hello!! We arrive at JFK from Madrid, Spain, in Iberia flight 6253, at 6:35 pm on Terminal 7. Afterwards, we continue to Washington, DCA, in American Airlines flight (operated by American Eagle) AA 3621 departing from Terminal 8 at 8:30 pm. We have purchased the flights separatelly. I understand that we are supposed to go through US Immigration, claim our bags, go through Terminal 8 by the Airtrain connection and then re-check the luggage with American Eagle. I'm worried if we will have time enough to make the connection. And, even we bought the flights separatelly, as Iberia and American Airlines have an association at One World Alliance, may the bags be directly checked from Madrid to Washington? Thanks at advanced, for your answer.

You should have enough time but you'll have to hurry to T8 to re-check your bags. Also, you will have to pay a checked bag fee to check your bag with American. However, yes, since Iberia and AA are in Oneworld you can show your AA confirmation to IB in MAD and maybe they will check your bags through for you. However, you will still have to claim them to go through US Customs. However, if they are tagged through to DCA you can re-check them in T7 instead of having to take them with you to T8. You also avoid having to pay a checked bag fee if you can make this happen.

Thanks a lot, ZAP, I hope the flight from Madrid be on time!! That's my first time with AA in connection. Only another question: my AA ticket has no bag checked, so I guess I must pay the fee at the check-in desk. But, may I do it in advance in order to save time? At the website I had no chance to do it when making the reservation. Thanks again

Yes, you can pay online for the bag if you do the web checkin online.

  • Wheelchair assistance from JetBlue Terminal to EL AL terminal

Mom is coming from PBI JetBlue to JFK EL AL. I understand that EL AL recently partnered with JetBlue for trips to Israel. I've notified both airlines that she will need a wheelchair. I will be meeting her at the EL AL Terminal. The question is: What is the process of the handovers to attendants on arrival to JFK, who will take her from the JetBlue Terminal to the EL AL terminal and will she be assisted during the process at Customs?

All airlines use contracted employees to handle the wheelchairs. Yes, she will be pushed to and through immigration and customs.

  • T4 International to T5 Jet Blue

Hi, trying to see if my time between connections is enough, this is for Dec 22nd. We are arriving in T4 Caribbean Airlines International flight at 5 am with our connection in T5 Jet Blue to BTV at 9 am. We have checked bags, so I am wondering is this sufficient time for our connection? And how do we get from T4 to T5?

Yes, that should be enough time. You get between T4 and T5 using the AirTrain.

Thanks, I thought so too, was advised by the travel agent they thought the time was too short. Just needed confirmation from someone that knows JFK. Thanks again

Hi, we are arriving from Istanbul with Turkish airlines and will continue to Mexico city with İnterjet airlines. We will have 3 hours time for the connection. Do we have to go through the customs in JFK? Do you think we will have enough time?

Yes, you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, and go through US Customs. Then you will have to take your bags up to the departure level to check with Interjet as Interjet does not interline with other airlines. It's barely possible within 3 hours. Both flights will be in Terminal 1, which definitely helps.

Thanks, hope we can make it! Any suggestions for doing this quicker?

Sit as far forward on the Turkish flight as you can and don't waste any time.

  • Long term connection in NY - JFK

Hello, I and my family are going to Rome from São Paulo - Brazil through NYC - JFK by Delta. We will arrive at 07:00 AM and leave at 11:30 PM. I would like to know if we will have to take the baggage and re-check it or if it will automatically be transferred by the company. Other question is: as it is long term connection could we leave the airport and visit Manhattan or we will have to stay waiting in JFK?

Yes, you will have to claim your bags to go through US Customs. Then you will immediately re-check it with Delta after you clear customs. Once you clear customs you will be outside security and free to go wherever you want. It takes approximately 90 minutes to get from JFK to Manhattan via the AirTrain and Subway.

Hi ZAP, thank you very much. Now, it is much easy.

Arriving in JFK T2 with Delta. Have to transfer to China Eastern T1. Do I have to go through security again in T1? Is 90 minutes enough for connection? Thanks!

Yes, you will have to go through security in T1. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

You will have to go through US Immigration, claim your luggage, and go through US CUstoms, then re-check your bags in T4 when you arrive from SXM. Then you will take the AirTrain from T4 to T1 and go through security and to your departure gate.

Thank you so much for the vital information. It will certainly help me prepare better, to get my connection from T-4 to T-1.

  • from T4 intl. DL to T2 domestic DL in 2 hrs?

Hello. How doable is this with immigration, customs and shuttle involved? Thanks!

That should be a makeable connection. Be aware that some domestic flights use T4 so in that case you wouldn't have to take the shuttle.

Thank you ZAP! The flight number suggests, it's T2. By the way, how does AirTrain+T2's security option compare to T4's security+Delta shuttle? Which route is usually faster?

I can't say for sure which method is faster. T4 Security to the shuttle probably involves less walking.

ZAP, thank you so much for your time and effort spent to help us all!

Hi, My friend and I are booked to fly from Orlando to New York on Jetblue and Onwards to Abu Dhabi and Mumbai on Etihad. Our JetBlue flight arrives in T5 and our Etihad flight departs from T4. We will be flying in December, and have a connecting time of 1h44 minutes in JFK. Do you think we can make it?

Yes, you should be able to make it if your first flight is on-time. If you purchased tickets together your bags will be checked through to Mumbai in Orlando. In JFK you will just have to take the airtrain from T5 to T4 and go through security.

  • Air Canada arriving T7 4:35pm, Alitalia departing T1 8:35pm

Hello, I am flying from Toronto, Canada landing in JFK in a Air Canada flight landing in T7 at 4:35pm and I'll need to catch a connecting Alitalia flight in T1, does that mean I have to gather my luggage after I got off the Air Can flight, go through custom, then re-checkin at the Alitalia counter after? Will I have enough time? My flights are in November if that matters.... tks in advanced

YOu will pre-clear US Immigration in Toronto. Your arrival into JFK will be like a domestic flight. If you bought your tickets separately you will have to claim them and take them with you on the airtrain from T7 to T1 to check with Alitalia, but if you purchased them together they should be checked through to Italy for you in Toronto and you won't have to claim them in JFK.
