i am flying with AA from Manchester UK to Orlando with a connection at JFK. I land at 1.30pm Terminal 8 and my connection flight with AA is at 2.55pm Terminal 8. Do i have to collect my checked bags at JFK and re check on Orlando flight. And do i have enough time from landing and flight take off to collect re check and board my connecting flight. slightly panicing here

Yes, in JFK you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through security and to your departure gate. This is a very difficult connection, bordering on impossible.

I'm arriving from Toronto, on a Delta flight. This will be at Terminal 4. I have 1hr40 min to make my connection, another Delta flight, which departs from Terminal 2. Is this long enough? What's the fastest way to make this transition - I hear there is a shuttle? Where do I pick this up?

Yes, that is enough time. Delta runs a shuttle bus inside security between T4 and T2. it is well marked and is also shown on the map on Delta.com You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto.

  • JKF terminals and place to sleep

Hi. I am arriving into JFK Terminal 4 from London at 11pm at night. I then need to get a domestic delta flight from JFK to Atlanta from terminal 2 at 6am the next morning. Some questions: I assume i can grab a shuttle from terminal 4 to 2 but is this open 24 hours? Where is the best place to grab some shut eye for a couple of hours - is the lounge better in terminal 2 or 4? Finally, I am travelling on separate tickets so assume I need to obtain luggage and go through security etc again but would be good if someone can confirm. thanks

The AirTrain runs 24 hours. However, you are best staying in Terminal 4 until security opens in Terminal 2 at about 4 AM. There is no where for you to stay in Terminal 2. You also won't be able to check your bags again with Delta until the morning.

  • Terminal 5 to Terminal 2
    Oct 24, 2016
Hi Myself and a friend are arriving Terminal 5 at 13.20 from Dublin (Pre-cleared US customs and Immigraton in Dublin). Can we make a 14.55 Delta flight (probably from T2). Thanks for your help. Clive

With checked baggage that would be very difficult. Without checked baggage it's possible but still risky.

  • connecting at jfk from paris to las vegas
    Oct 23, 2016
Hi there Arriving at Jfk form Paris at 16:05 what layover should i plan to travel to vegas ? 2/3/4 Hours ? Thx Dan

If you are purchasing two separate reservations I would want 3-4 hours. If all tickets will be on the same reservation, 2-3 hours should be sufficient.

  • Transferring between LGA to JFK
    Oct 22, 2016
Will land from Toronto via American Eagle at 8:03am then need to gather luggage and be at JFK for flight departing 10:40 for Johannesburg via SA airlines. Is this durable?

LGA is a mess right now due to construction. I really don't think that's enough time realistically.

  • best meeting place for ground transport to NYC, between Term 5 & 8
    Oct 21, 2016
Need to meet daughter arriving Term 5, 3:30. I arrive Term 8, 3:00 and need to claim baggage. Suggestions please. Also will need ground transport to NYC . Should I just wait in Baggage to meet /

You could meet her in the Terminal 5 baggage claim or you could each take the airtrain to the transfer point to the Jamaica station where you transfer to the Subway or LIRR and meet her there.

  • Connection between 8 and 7
    Oct 22, 2016
Hello, my flight arrives from Montreal to terminal 8 at 2:35pm and I have a new flight to Heathrow from terminal 7 to 6:35 pm. My booking is BA but first flight is AA... my questions is: Is it easy to move from 8 to 7? Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, you just have to take the AirTrain one stop from T8 to T7 and go through security. You have plenty of time. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Montreal.

Thank you. Do you know if I must pick my luggage or it can transit directly

You will not have to pick up your luggage in JFK.

I am flying from Orlando to JFK then flying to Iceland. All of the flights are delta (or airfrance). Do I have to get my checked bags and go through security again? i will have approx 70 Min between flights. Is that sufficant time? thank you

Both are Delta. You don't have to do anything with your bags in JFK on you way to Iceland, just go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. If you arrive in Terminal 2 there is a shuttle inside security to Terminal 4 where you will depart.

  • Delta CHS-ATL-JFK-Asiana
    Oct 20, 2016
I would like my bag checked straight through from Delta at CHS to Asiana Airlines at JFK. Is this possible. If not, what is the best walking route from the Delta terminal arrival point to the Asiana terminal. Alternately, should I get a taxi out of baggage claim to the Asiana terminal to avoid carrying heavy luggage?

If you purchase two separate reservations then Delta will not check your bags through to Asiana. If you arrive in Terminal 4 (Some Delta flights arrive there, some Delta domestic flights arrive in Terminal 2). Then you don't have to change terminals, both flights will be in Terminal 4. If you arrive in Terminal 2 you will have to take your bags on the AirTrain to Terminal 4 to re-check them. You can't take a taxi between terminals.

I'm flying from Orlando to JFK on jet Blue terminal 5 Then I fly out on China Air terminal 1 Do I have to get my luggage and check in again going through security?

Are your tickets on one reservation or two separate reservations? Regardless you will have to go through security again in Terminal 1. Also are you on China Airlines (flying to Taipei) or Air China (flying to Beijing). There's a big difference. There is no "China Air".

Thanks. On Air China to Beijing One reservation

Then yes, you take the AirTrain to Terminal 1 and go through security.

  • land at terminal 8, conection leaves from terminal 8

  • JetBlue (Terminal 5) to Emirates(Term 4) - 90 mins enough?
    Oct 22, 2016
I'm arriving on JetBlue at terminal 5 around 21:30 and have an Emirates flight to DXB at 23:00. Is 90 mins enough? Do I need to collect baggage and check in again at Emirates -- and travel between terminals with 2 large bags? How long will AirTrain take to connect. Any help appreciated!

Are both tickets on the same reservation or two separate reservations?

On the same reservation. Although on way in JetBlue flight mentioned was codeshare EK flight, but this time it is mentioned as a JetBlue flight. But EK itinerary shows all the flights.

Then all you have to do in JFK is take the AirTrain from T5 to T4 and go through security. You should have enough time if the JetBlue flight is on-time.

do we have to take checked luggage before going to terminal 4 for emirates

If the JetBlue flight is domestic you don't have to do anything with your bags at JFK.

  • Connection Time between WestJet & AA
    Oct 20, 2016
Looking at a flight from YYZ (Toronto) on WestJet to SJU (San Juan) that connects with American Airlines at JFK but only have 2h5min connection -- is this enough time to clear immigration/customs and make the American Airlines flight or would we be pushing it?

WestJet does not fly from YYZ to JFK. They fly from Toronto to LaGuardia in New York. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto but since it's two different airports that's not enough time.

My apologies, it's not from YYZ, it's actually from YYC (Calgary) to JFK. I found the itinerary on travelocity.ca (I'm actually originating in YZF, so I have to do 2 connections unfortunately). Is that enough time? Can I pre-clear customs in Calgary? Flight lands at JFK at 16:55, departs at 19:00 on a Friday evening to SJU.

Yes, you will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Calgary. If both tickets are on the same reservation then you just have to take the AirTrain from Terminal 4 to Terminal 8, get your AA boarding pass, and go through security. You should have enough time. If it's two separate reservations you'll have to claim your bags from Westjet in T4 first before going to T8.

I'm not sure I totally understand the two reservation thing, sorry -- if I book using a website like travelocity for YZF to SJU it gives me the option to fly WestJet to YYC then to JFK then I connect with AA to SJU. It's one booking on the website, though technically two companies, so how is that treated -- as one reservation or two? I'm sorry if that sounds stupid. I've actually never changed airlines before -- every time I've ever flown it's been the one airline straight through so bags were checked on through. Would it be helpful if we went carry-on only? Thanks so much.

That will be treated as one reservation and your bags will be checked through to San Juan and you won't have to do anything with them at JFK.

  • Can someone help ?
    Oct 18, 2016
Returning home on a direct flight with American Airlines from terminal 8 at 7.00pm I must first get a Delta flight the same day from Washington DCA to terminal 4 JFK which arrives at 2.15pm. I am concerned if there is sufficient time to clear immigration, collect my case, make my way to terminal 8 and check my case in with American Airlines for my homeward flight. I would appreciate if someone could advise if I will have enough time to negotiate the airport in time for my flight home ?

There is no US Immigration when flying from Washington DC to JFK. All you have to do is claim your bags, take them to T8 on the AirTrain, re-check them with American, and go through security. You have plenty of time.

Thanks greatly for this feedback info.
