  • Changing Terminals with C1 Transit visa
    Sep 22, 2014
    1
Hello All, My wife is travelling Bangkok - Haiti, she has the C1 Transit visa already. However she will arrive with Emirates into Terminal 4, and will leave from a different terminal. How it is possible to change terminals with this visa? Thank you, James.

You show the visa to get through US Immigration. When she exits customs she will be outside security and free to go wherever she wants. They monitor visa compliance by checking to see if she boarded her onward flight to Haiti.

  • Is there time enough, please help!

I'm planning on arriving, have not bought the ticket yet, on the 5 of january 8:30 pm with probably US Airways to catch a connecting flight with Norwegian that leaves at a different gate 10:30 pm. This means that I have 2h approximately from touch down to pick up my bag, use the train that connects the terminals, check in my bags, go through security and go ombord before take off. I wonder, will I make it? How long times does it take to travel between the terminals? According to Norwegian they close their check-in 1hr before departure, have that in mind when you answer! Take care, AJ.

You might have enough time if your first flight is on-time. but Delays at JFK are very common. It takes about 15 minutes to go from T8 to T4.

Do you have to get your bags at Terminal 2 before going Terminal 4, both are Delta flights? Also do you take the tram or shuttle bus between the two terminals?

If your bags are tagged to your final destination you do not have to claim them in JFK as long as your first flight is domestic. If you take the shuttle bus you do not have to go through security again in T4.

  • In terminal transfer for my bags

Hello. I will travel from Chicago O'Hare with AA this Saturday, 27th. Arriving to JFK Terminal 8 at 4:15 PM. Next flight will leave to Helsinki, Finland also from Terminal 8, operated by Finnair Scheduled departure at 5:40 PM. Ticket was bought from one airline. Both companies are members of One World Alliance. Question: would 1 hour 25 minutes window be sufficient for my bags to be transferred in JFK. A bit worried to stay without bags in Helsinki following morning...

Yes, that should be plenty of time. That is a very simple transfer.

Thanks a lot! Will take my chance to check this out. Will post after if everything went well. Take care!

  • Connection time Nice-jfk. JFK-Phoenix both with Delta

Hi, we arrive in JFK from Nice, France at 4.30pm with Delta and our Delta flight for Phoenix leaves at 6.35pm. Is this sufficient time to transfer as wéll have to change terminals? We are French. Thanks

Yes, that should be enough time. You will arrive in Terminal 4, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs then re-check your bags then go through security. Your flight to Phoenix could depart from T4 or T2. If it departs from T2, Delta has a shuttle bus between T4 and T2 inside security.

thks for your reply, which reassures me, as long as the immigration queue isńt too long ! Will Delta help us if our NceJFK flight is late or we miss the connection due to long queues inJFK? Your forum is a great help. Many thanks.

Hi, We're arriving at 13.55 in Terminal 7 from London and have a connection flight with Delta in Terminal 2 at 16.05. Do you think we'll have enough time to make the connection? many thanks. Simon

Yes, that should be doable, but it doesn't leave much time to spare for any delays and transferring your bags between airlines if you purchased two separate tickets.

  • If transit visa required to change terminal -4 to terminal -2
    Sep 21, 2014

Hi, I have planned to travel from New Delhi (INDIA) to Montreal (CANADA) via New York. AI 101 will arrive at terminal - 4 @ 07:00 hrs and DL 2955 will depart from terminal - 2 @ 13:05 hts. My doubt is that whether I need a transit visa of USA or not.

You need a transit visa. All passengers arriving in the US need either a visitor or transit visa, even if they are continuing onto another country.

  • Travel to DCA connecting at JFK
    Sep 20, 2014

Hello!! We arrive at JFK from Madrid, Spain, in Iberia flight 6253, at 6:35 pm on Terminal 7. Afterwards, we continue to Washington, DCA, in American Airlines flight (operated by American Eagle) AA 3621 departing from Terminal 8 at 8:30 pm. We have purchased the flights separatelly. I understand that we are supposed to go through US Immigration, claim our bags, go through Terminal 8 by the Airtrain connection and then re-check the luggage with American Eagle. I'm worried if we will have time enough to make the connection. And, even we bought the flights separatelly, as Iberia and American Airlines have an association at One World Alliance, may the bags be directly checked from Madrid to Washington? Thanks at advanced, for your answer.

You should have enough time but you'll have to hurry to T8 to re-check your bags. Also, you will have to pay a checked bag fee to check your bag with American. However, yes, since Iberia and AA are in Oneworld you can show your AA confirmation to IB in MAD and maybe they will check your bags through for you. However, you will still have to claim them to go through US Customs. However, if they are tagged through to DCA you can re-check them in T7 instead of having to take them with you to T8. You also avoid having to pay a checked bag fee if you can make this happen.

Thanks a lot, ZAP, I hope the flight from Madrid be on time!! That's my first time with AA in connection. Only another question: my AA ticket has no bag checked, so I guess I must pay the fee at the check-in desk. But, may I do it in advance in order to save time? At the website I had no chance to do it when making the reservation. Thanks again

Yes, you can pay online for the bag if you do the web checkin online.

  • Wheelchair assistance from JetBlue Terminal to EL AL terminal

Mom is coming from PBI JetBlue to JFK EL AL. I understand that EL AL recently partnered with JetBlue for trips to Israel. I've notified both airlines that she will need a wheelchair. I will be meeting her at the EL AL Terminal. The question is: What is the process of the handovers to attendants on arrival to JFK, who will take her from the JetBlue Terminal to the EL AL terminal and will she be assisted during the process at Customs?

All airlines use contracted employees to handle the wheelchairs. Yes, she will be pushed to and through immigration and customs.

  • T4 International to T5 Jet Blue

Hi, trying to see if my time between connections is enough, this is for Dec 22nd. We are arriving in T4 Caribbean Airlines International flight at 5 am with our connection in T5 Jet Blue to BTV at 9 am. We have checked bags, so I am wondering is this sufficient time for our connection? And how do we get from T4 to T5?

Yes, that should be enough time. You get between T4 and T5 using the AirTrain.

Thanks, I thought so too, was advised by the travel agent they thought the time was too short. Just needed confirmation from someone that knows JFK. Thanks again

Hi, we are arriving from Istanbul with Turkish airlines and will continue to Mexico city with İnterjet airlines. We will have 3 hours time for the connection. Do we have to go through the customs in JFK? Do you think we will have enough time?

Yes, you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, and go through US Customs. Then you will have to take your bags up to the departure level to check with Interjet as Interjet does not interline with other airlines. It's barely possible within 3 hours. Both flights will be in Terminal 1, which definitely helps.

Thanks, hope we can make it! Any suggestions for doing this quicker?

Sit as far forward on the Turkish flight as you can and don't waste any time.

  • Long term connection in NY - JFK
    Sep 14, 2014

Hello, I and my family are going to Rome from São Paulo - Brazil through NYC - JFK by Delta. We will arrive at 07:00 AM and leave at 11:30 PM. I would like to know if we will have to take the baggage and re-check it or if it will automatically be transferred by the company. Other question is: as it is long term connection could we leave the airport and visit Manhattan or we will have to stay waiting in JFK?

Yes, you will have to claim your bags to go through US Customs. Then you will immediately re-check it with Delta after you clear customs. Once you clear customs you will be outside security and free to go wherever you want. It takes approximately 90 minutes to get from JFK to Manhattan via the AirTrain and Subway.

Hi ZAP, thank you very much. Now, it is much easy.

Arriving in JFK T2 with Delta. Have to transfer to China Eastern T1. Do I have to go through security again in T1? Is 90 minutes enough for connection? Thanks!

Yes, you will have to go through security in T1. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time.
