I have a reservation for a Delta flight that arrives at JFK Terminal 4 at 7:00 pm with a connection to an Alitalia flight for Milan leaving terminal 1 at 8:30 pm. Will I have to recheck luggage and do I have a chance of making this connection?

Hi, I'm travelling with Delta from the UK to terminal 4 and then again to CVG from terminal 4, also with Delta. As a UK national, do I need to clear immigration, collect bags and recheck luggage?

Yes, you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate.

Flying from Austin>JFK>KEF We will be on the same ticket so don't need to recheck bags. Is 2 hours enough time to catch the transfer? How far is Jetblue to Iceland Air terminal?

You will arrive in Terminal 5, take the AirTrain to Terminal 7, and go through security. You should have enough time as long as your flight from Austin is on-time.

  • Time between Terminal 4 and 5

I have a family member traveling in May from Johannesburg on South African Airlines (Terminal 5) arriving at JFK at 6:40 AM. The connecting flight is Jet Blue which leaves Terminal 4 at 9:04. I will have one bag to collect and check. I have seat assignments for the 9:04 flight. Any concerns or tips for me?

The terminals you have are reversed. The South African flight will arrive in Terminal 4 and the JetBlue flight will depart from Terminal 5. You have enough time. You will have to go through security again in Terminal 5.

Thank you. I mixed them up. Will he collect his bag in Terminal 4 and need to recheck it before he goes to Terminal 5? When does he go through customs.

When he arrives he will go through US Immigration, claim his bags and go through US Customs. If his bags are tagged through to Jetblue (both tickets were bought on the same reservation), then he will re-check the bags at the re-check desk in T4 then proceed to T5. If the bags are not tagged through to his final destination, then he will have to take them with him on the AirTrain and re-check them at the JetBlue check-in desk in T5.

What is the fastest way to get from terminal 5 to 2? I get from Dublin, Aer Lingus, and have 45 minutes to get to Delta. Customs are clear in Ireland.

The only way to get from Terminal 5 to Terminal 2 is the AirTrain and you will have to go through security when you get there. The only way you have any chance of making this connection is if you have no checked bags and your Aer Lingus flight arrives very early.

  • International Connection

I am flying to Rome from JFK on American. How long do I need to make my connection when I fly in from Denver? Someone was saying 3 hours. Is that really necessary? Is there extra security for the international flight?

Yes, 3 hours is necessary if you are purchasing two separate reservations. There is no extra security for an International flight, but it takes quite a bit of time to claim your baggage, take it to another terminal, re-check it, and go through security. Add in the fact that JFK is delay prone and I think 3 hours is a safe bet.

  • T5 to T7 connection time 1:15 MIN

I bought a Qatar Airline ticket departing at 11:15 AM. I am planning to buy a ticket from PBI to JFK and earliest I can arrive is at 9:45 AM. Will this give me enough time to make the connection. Thank you for your suggestions.

On two separate reservations with checked bags, no that is not enough time. I suggest flying in the prior evening.

Hi, I have an upcoming flight arriving jfk at terminal 4 with a 50 minute layover and connecting to a flight in terminal 1 . Will I have to go through security again and if so is this enough time? Thanks.

Yes, you will have to go through security again. This connection is extremely difficult, bordering on impossible.

hi I arrive at JFK on a Thomas Cook flight on 23rd June at 13:25 and looking at flights to Boston, how long will I need to catch a connecting flight (what's the best time to book flight to Boston). thanks

I would not look at any flight before 16:30.

Thanks for the reply, There's one at 16:40 would I make that or look for later

Yes, you could make that. Obviously the later you go the more breathing room you have but also the more time you potentially waste waiting at the airport.

I'm leaving Boston and landing at Jfk at T5 I have a 35 minute layover to Dominican Republic which also leaves through T5 just a different gate.. Will I have to go through security again or just gate to gate?

You do not have to go through security again, just walk to your departure gate. You have enough time as long as your flight from Boston is on-time.

  • 2 Tickets - Delta

2 Seperate tickets, (Round Trip from Atlanta to JFK, Then JFK to Athens ) Both tickets are Delta. Return Trip is from Athens to JFK, arrives at 6:05 pm. The only available flight to Atlanta leaves at 7:25 pm. If the flight is on time from Athens, is there any hope to make the Atlanta flight?

Not realistically. Plan on spending the night in New York.

  • ORD TO JFK TO CDG

Hi I am going from ORD to JFK TO CDG. I have a flight out of XL Airways France at 11:55PM. Should I book the Jetblue flight into JFK for the one that arrives at 9:04PM or 11:48AM? Two separate reservations so will have to pick up bags and change terminals. Thank you!

JFK to CDG is XL Airways France leaving at 11:55 from JFK* just for clarification

The 9:04 PM flight is probably possible.

would it be cutting it too close?

I'll put it this way, evening flights into JFK during the summer are often delayed and this connection doesn't leave much room for delays.

Okay thanks! So is there cafes in the departure terminal 4 at JFK? Because technically, I don't know how early the XL Airways counter will be open for me to check my bags in. That means I have to hang out at JFK departure hall for close to 9 hours?

There's not much outside security at JFK at all, but what little there is is in Terminal 4.

You could also consider flying another airline to JFK. Delta has a flight that arrives at JFK at 6:50 PM. American has a flight that arrives at 3:13 PM.

  • Jet blue to emirates connection

I have a scheduled flight from CLT to JFK on jet blue arriving at 9:23pm with a connection to Emirates JFK to DXB at 11:00pm (1 hour 37 minutes). Arrive at Terminal 5 and depart terminal 4. Checked bags all on one ticket (no need to collect and recheck). Is this enough time to make the terminal change?

Yes, that should be enough time, especially that late in the evening.

  • Connection time

Flying in to jfk from Detroit and have 50 minutes to connect to London Heathrow all with delta. Will this give me enough time??

Yes, that should be enough time. If your flight from Detroit is operated by Delta Connection then both flights will be in Terminal 4 and all you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. If your flight from Detroit is operated by regular Delta mainline you will arrive in Terminal 2 and have to take the shuttle bus to Terminal 4 (it runs inside security).

Sorry I got it wrong the flight is from Orlando international (Mco) to jfk and then to Heathrow will this make a difference?

In that case you will almost definitely arrive in Terminal 2 and have to take the shuttle to Terminal 4.

I am flying in to JFK at 7:25AM at Terminal 4 via Air India flight AI-101 and my next flight (Delta Airlines DL-4261) leaves at 11:05AM from Terminal 4 itself. I am arriving with F1 Student Visa. Do I need checkout my bags and clear through security to go to my connecting flight?

Yes, you need to do that, but you should have enough time as long as your Air India flight is on-time. If your tickets were bought on two separate reservations you will have to take your bags to the Delta check in desk to re-check them to your destination and you will have to pay a checked bag fee.

Thanks for the reply ZAP, my tickets are ought on same reservation online.
