  • Making impossible possible
    May 2, 2015
I am a U.S. Citizen, flying into T7 on a Friday on a BA flight from LHR, scheduled to land at 1:55pm. I have booked a separate ticket on Delta, departing at 4pm out of T4 for California. I understand that it is a very tricky time slot, especially with customs, immigration, and baggage claim. What is the clearance time for immigrations, baggage claim, and customs on Fridays at this time? What is the quickest way for me to get to T4. I plan on checking in online for the Delta flight and dropping bags off at a counter as they'll already be paid. I am also first class, will this help speed my TSA time? Cabin doors close at 3:45. Is there a possible way to check my bags through to FAT or any recommended ways to make this transfer as quickly as possible?

You will barely have enough time if your first flight is on-time. The AirTrain connects T7 and T4. Yes, having first class will give you priority through security. Your bags will be checked through to FAT in JFK. Just run and you can make it.

  • Shuttle between Terminals
    May 1, 2015
I am trying to arrange car service for two passengers who are arriving into two different terminals within 35 minutes of each other. The first passenger is arriving on All Nippon Airways and the second is arriving on Korean Airlines. Is there an airport shuttle that can take the first passenger from All Nippon Airways terminal to the Korean Airlines terminal?

    What airport?

JFK Airport - Terminal 7 passenger needs to get to Terminal 1. If there is a shuttle, is there a charge?

The AirTrain connects all Terminals outside security and is free for use between Terminals.

    Thank you!

  • Teminal 4 to Terminal 5 transfer time
    May 1, 2015
Hi, I will arrive on a Virgin Atlantic flight (from London) in Terminal 4 on 15:25 (July - Friday) I'll have to catch a Jet Blue flight to Buffalo in Terminal 5 on 18:59. Do you thing that three and a half hours are sufficient time to collect languages , go through customs and recheck languages for Jet Blue flight ?

Yes, that should be enough time. You can get from T4 to T5 on the AirTrain.

    Thank you !!

  • Getting through customs and changing terminals
    May 1, 2015
Hello, I will be arriving from Paris to Terminal 1 on AirFrance and then will have to go to Terminal 4 for a Delta flight. After we pick up our bags and go through customs, where do we recheck our bags? Do I have to take them to terminal 4 or can we do it at terminal 1 where we will be going through customs? How do we get from terminal 1 to terminal 4?

If you purchased your tickets together and your bags are tagged through to your final destination, you can re-check them at the transfer desk immediately after customs in Terminal 1. You get from T1 to T4 using the AirTrain.

my mom arrive at JFK T1 from russia, she need get to next flight at T4 (DL 4077), layower 4h38m, how she can get there from T1 to T4?

The AirTrain connects Terminal 1 and 4 outside security. She should have plenty of time.

  • Time to get transfer between terminals 4 and 1
    Apr 29, 2015
Hi, I have a 1.5 hour layover and need to transfer between terminals 4 and 1. Is this enough time to take the train and go through security? I arrive on Delta and depart on Alitalia. Thank you!

Yes, if your tickets were purchased together that should be enough time.

    Thank you!

  • Arriving on Delta T2 3:50pm Departng AA T8 5:20pm
    Apr 29, 2015
Arriving from Toronto (so precleared customs), no checked luggage but need to change terminals and I gather go through security again. Will I have enough time to transfer?

Most Delta Connection flights now arrive at T4 rather than T2. Yes, you should have plenty of time if your first flight is on-time. Check in for your AA flight online or on your smartphone before you leave Toronto.

Hi we are arriving on Delta from Vancouver at 06.40. I would like to connect to Virgin Atlantic to London at 8.15. Will 1 hr 55 min be enough time. Thanks

Yes, assuming your tickets were purchased on one reservation that should be plenty of time. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Vancouver.

no the tickets are two seperate reservations will this still be enough time? thanks.

Also we are South African citizens, will we still preclear immigration and customs in Vanvouver?

    Yes, everybody does.

Thanks for the info, will the tickets being purchased as seperate reservations make a critical difference.

Yes, it actually makes it much harder as you will have to claim your bags from Delta and bring them to Virgin. if you purchased as one reservation your bags would be checked straight through to your final destination in Vancouver.

  • International flight
    Apr 29, 2015
Hi, I am planning a trip to saint Thomas Virginia island with my family. I'll be arriving to JFK from Istanbul (international flight) at 11:20 am at terminal 1. Then I'll have to go through customs, visa etc get my bags and head to terminal 4 to catch my flight to STT which departs at 1:59 pm. Of course I have to check in my bags at terminal 4 etc. do u think 2 hrs and 40 mins layover is enough time to catch my connecting flight? I am worried because I don't know JFK and I am not sure how long they usually take at customs for internationals Thnx

Are you purchasing two separate tickets or are you purchasing your tickets together? What airlines are you flying?

So sorry forgot to mention that. Purchasing Two separate tickets!

Coming in on Turkish airlines to JFK and then American Airlines to STT

American Airlines uses Terminal 8, not Terminal 4. 2 hrs 40 minutes is barely enough time if the first flight is on-time.

  • Enough time
    Apr 29, 2015
We are scheduled to land at JFK on May 3 at 5:03 p.m. (Delta) and catch a Delta flight to MXP at 6:21. Is this enough time?

Yes, that should be plenty of time. You will arrive in Terminal 2 or 4 and depart from Terminal 4. if you arrive in Terminal 2 there is a shuttle bus inside security between T2 and T4.

  • Need advice

I am flying in from Amsterdam to JFK arriving at 11.49am on 26th May in Terminal 4. I have a connecting flight (booked separately) with Delta at 12.59pm on the same day from JFK to Tulsa- What is the likelihood that I make this connection? I was considering booking a flight for 14.45pm with either AA or US airways that day in case I miss my connection- is this enough time?

Unless your flight is early, it will be difficult for you to make it, especially if you have checked baggage. I would book the later flight.

  • Will I have time
    Apr 30, 2015
Hello, I will be flying to the US from London and will land at JFK Terminal 8 at 15:40. I will then have to catch a flight to Washington Ronald Reagan at 16:55, also from Terminal 8, leaving a transfer time of 1hr15mins . My flights were all booked at the same time and so are all on one ticket. Will this be enough time and will I have to collect my luggage and re-check or not? I've read conflicting things. Never flown to the US so all advice is appreciated!

That is 15 minutes shorter than the recommended connection time for such a connection. Yes, you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US customs, re-check your bags at the transfer desk, go through security and to your departure gate.

I've read else where that I won't have to collect and re-check my bag as my flights are all on one ticket with AA - is this correct?

  • Transfer from T8 to T4 - is 1h16 enough time?
    Apr 28, 2015
Hello, I am trying to book a flight from BOS-STT (St. Thomas, USVI). The itinerary is AA330 BOS-JFK (arrives T8) and DL454 JFK-STT (departs T4). The layover time is 1:16. The connection is legal (I assume) because I can book it on AA.com. Is 1:16 enough time to get from T8 to T4? I gather I will need to take the train and re-clear security, but my bags should be checked through to STT since the itinerary is booked as one. This will be on a Sunday, so I gather the train frequency will be decreased. According to FlightAware, the BOS-JFK leg is usually a little early, and the JFK-STT leg is usually delayed 30+ mins. Any insight would be helpful before I book ourselves a miserable start to our holiday. Cheers!

Train frequency is not reduced on Sunday. Sunday is a busy travel day. You have the procedure correct. I think you should have enough time.

Thanks, ZAP! I appreciate your insight, makes me feel more comfortable booking the itinerary.

  • Is it enought time?
    Apr 28, 2015
Hi! I am international student with F1 visa and will lend to USA (not the first time) on 11 of August from Ukraine to JFK. If I lend at 2:20pm and I want to buy domestic tickets now to SLC at 5:30pm, is it going to be enough to have 3h10min to lick up my baggage, go through international security, etc? I don't know terminal yet...

That is probably enough time. Although if you provide more specifics I can help you more.

Sorry, now I figured out how to find some info about those flights. The flight I would like to buy back to SLC, Utah is DL 458, JFK-SLC, depart at 5:30pm, Airbus A320. I am buying right now the flight from Ukraine, Kyiv to JFK, Flight 231. Will arrive at 2:20 pm, Terminal 7. I will have my baggage to claim, then to go through the security, international security, etc... I will show my new VISA. The question is, will it be enough to have 3h10 minutes to do all those procedures? I do not look suspicious, just a F1 student.

Yes, that should probably be enough time. Since you are buying two separate tickets you will have to transfer your bags yourself from Terminal 7 to Terminal 2 or 4 where your Delta flight will depart. DL 458 should depart from Terminal 4.

Thank you so much! The next option was to get tickets to SLC with 5+ hours gap in JFK and it's just a lot... So I was hesitating.. I hope my international flight will not be delayed. Thank you again!
