sequestration cut backsMar 27, 201330A friend of mine is a flight attendant for AA. She came back from Heathrow last week and said the immigrations lines were horrendous (she and her crew were getting screamed at because the agents streamlined them through for them to make the next flight they were working on). The agent told her that the lines were 3-4 hours wait at some times, due to cutbacks. What have you heard about this? We are coming back from Barcelona next month on AA and only have a 2 hour layover.***posted on Tue, Mar 26While slow-downs at the immigration/customs clearance process in the U.S. have also been impacted by the cut-downs, so far the added time is at most one hour in some of the large U.S. Airports. You arrive at JFK via AA at Terminal 8; After passport clearance, picking up bags & re-checking them in, if AA is also your connecting airline you simply walk to your connecting gate. T8 has Concourses B (gates 1-16 & C (gates 31-17). If needing to get to another terminal for a different airline, take the 'Airline Terminals Train' - however, on arrival at departing terminal you need to go through security check prior to proceeding to your connecting gate.frmar13posted on Wed, Mar 27

American Airlines ConnectionMar 26, 201320Just got notice that there was a schedule change. We are arriving JFK from Milan on AA and have 1:40 to make the connection to Tampa flight. Having never been to JFK/AA terminal before--provided all on time-- is it going to be close? We do have to go through security again?DrPhilposted on Tue, Mar 26Yes, you will have to go through security again after US immigration, but at least everything is in the same new modern terminal. You should have enough time.ZAPposted on Tue, Mar 26You will arrive at JFK at Terminal 8, where you need to go through passport check, retrieve checked bags, go through customs clearance and - if transferring to another flight - re-check-in bag where indicated. Then go back to the Departures level, go through security check and proceed to your connecting gate. (T8 has Concourses B with gates 1-16 and near gate 14 is access to Concourse C with gates 32-17. It's doable, but there is no time to waste!tumar13posted on Tue, Mar 26

Int. - Dom. connecton in T8Mar 23, 201310I'm possibly flying from Helsinki to JFK, and then need to make it to my connecting flight to San Diego. Arrival: 15:50, Departure: 17:25, so a transit time of 95 minutes. From what I've researched, the AA flight to San Diego should depart from T8 too, so no need to change terminals. I have never arrived in JFK, so not sure how long the immigration time will be (non-US resident). I know the 95min connection will be tight, but will it be doable? I've heard something about a priority system for connecting flights at JFK, is this something that exists? Also, is there a minimum time before the connecting flight leaves for rechecking the bags?maxxsposted on Sat, Mar 23Since everything is in the same terminal that is a makeable connection, but yes, it is a bit tight. Unfortunately that's also the last flight of the day from JFK to SAN so if you miss your connection you'll be spending the night in New York. You should be fine with your time making it to intl recheck if your first flight is on time.ZAPposted on Sat, Mar 23

SAA conection to Virgin AmericaMar 19, 201320We arrrive 06:40 with South African Airways from Johannesburg in April and connect 09:40 with Virgin America to Las Vegas. What is the procedure with baggage collection and rechecking and will there be enough time for the connection. Where is the re-check in baggage counter?HEBOTSposted on Tue, Mar 19It looks like we arrive in Terminal 4 and depart from Terminal 4 not sure?HEBOTSposted on Tue, Mar 19Yes, so all you will have to do is take your bags upstairs after clearing immigration and check in/check your bags with Virgin America, then go back through security. I don't believe that South African and Virgin America have an interline baggage agreement so I think you'll have to re-check the bags yourself on the ticketing level. Everything is in the same terminal. Regardless, you should have plenty of time to do that.ZAPposted on Tue, Mar 19

terminal 8 - connetcting flightMar 14, 201310International flight with two infants. We have 40minutes between the flights and arriving to and from termial 8. on the map of the terminal it appears as though there're two concourses....but are they two separate buildings. We obviously dont know what gates swe are arriving to/departing from, but assuming they are in different concourses is 40min going to be enough? Thanks in advancepntgrlposted on Thu, Mar 14

TRANSIT VISA REQUIREMENTMar 13, 201310i am travelling from toronto to new delhi via jfk. My air canada flight lands at terminal 7 of jfk and i have to take my new delhi air india flight from terminal 4. i am permanent resident of canada and having permanent resident card with me. My passport is of indai. Does i need a transit visa for transferring from terminal 7 to terminal 4 of jfk.MANIposted on Tue, Mar 12At Toronto Airport, go through U.S. customs clearance. On arrival at JFK you simply look for signs for the Airline Terminals Train and board it to get to your connecting Terminal 4. (On your return to JFK you will need to go through passport check, pick up bags, go through customs clearance and re-check-in your bag, before proceeding to your connecting terminal. Do make sure that your first airline will transfer bags to your second airline (if using different airlines).wemar12posted on Wed, Mar 13

International transfer within Terminal 3Mar 18, 201333Hi, I'm landing on an international Delta flight in Terminal 3 JFK at 6:40am and leaving on a domestic Delta flight from Terminal 3 at 8:10am. Delta insists 1.5 hours is enough (especially in the same terminal) but I'm worried; have to get off from the back of our international plane with a baby, clear passport control, pick up our bags and clear customs, drop off the bags and go to our next flight. Is 1.5 hours really enough for all that if we don't need to transfer terminals? Thanks!Raphiposted on Tue, Mar 53 people like this post [ Like ]Forgot to mention, we are US citizens so that should help...?Raphiposted on Tue, Mar 5That will probably be enough time. There aren't that many international arrivals that early in the morning so Immigration won't be that busy.ZAPposted on Tue, Mar 5

Visa RequirementsMar 2, 201310A friend of mine in Namibia wishes to fly to Canada via a flight that connects through JFK (terminal 4 to terminal 8). Namibians normally need a visa to visit the US. Will he need a visa if he is only at JFK to connect through to his Toronto flight?halestormposted on Sat, Mar 2

International flight, Miami to AmsterdamFeb 20, 201310I am flying with American Airlines from Miami to New York (JFK), landing at 16:55. I am then flying with Delta Airlines to Amsterdam at 20:10. Do i have enough time to make my flight? And do i have to claim my luggage and check it in again?Ellenposted on Wed, Feb 20You need to find out from American if they transfer your bags to Delta flight - if not, you need to claim them on arrival at Terminal 8 and take them to the Delta counter at their terminal. Delta uses both Terminals 2 & 4 (T2 has gates 19-29; T4 has gates A2-7 & B20-31. Overhead screens on arrival will show you airline flight & gate numbers. On arrival, take the 'Airline Terminals Train' running from T1, to T8, T7, T5, T4 & T2/3, and arriving in the unsecured area. Before proceeding to your departing gate you need to go through security check. If you need to check in your bag, hurry!wefeb13posted on Wed, Feb 20
