  • ESTA valid as transfer visa?
    Oct 11, 2016
We are flying to JFK, spending a weekend in NY, then flying to Mexico on vacation. Home trip we are coming back to JFK (terminal 4) to connect to the return trip from JFK (terminal 1). We have 5 hours layover here. 1) Is that enough time? 2) Do we need a separate transfer VISA for this or are we covered with the ESTA we will need anyway for the weekend trip

We are flying in from and back to Europe btw

If you are eligible to enter the US on ESTA you never need a transit visa for the US. Yes, 5 hours should be enough time.

Hi, On 15th October Flying from Moscow, aeroflot SU 100 to JFK terminal 1 ETA 12.25 I have to go through customs, pick up luggages then go to terminal 2, register with Delta to Tampa, board ETD 15.29 h From ETA to ETD = 3 hours Is this enough time or not

Yes, that should be enough time if the Aeroflot flight is on-time.

  • Delta to Singapore Airines

I am connecting from Delta domestic to Singapore International to FRA, I have 3 hours connection both directions will that be enough time? From what I can tell the are both in terminal 4?

Yes, that should be enough time. Some domestic Delta flights use Terminal 2 but they are connected inside security to Terminal 4 by a shuttle if your bags are checked through or you don't have checked bags.

  • Will I need visa?
    Oct 9, 2016
Hello. I am Georgian citizen, flying from Istanbul to Kingston(Jamaica) via JFK. Istanbul-JFK is operated by Turkish Airlines and JFK-Kingston is operated by JetBlue. I have to change terminals in JFK, do I need any kind of visa? Ticket is in one order.

Yes, you need a US Transit Visa. In JFK you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go to Terminal 5 on the AirTrain and go through security.

I am arriving JFK on Delta from PHL in Term 4, and catching a KAL flight to Seoul in Term. 1. I have 2 hrs. for the connection. Do I have enough time?

Yes, that should be enough time. You just have to take the AirTrain to Terminal 1 and go through security.

I arrive in Terminal 4 and have to take my next flight from terminal 5. have 3 hours of layover. Do I need to clear customs in terminal 4 and do the security check again at terminal 5? Travelling with a baby and want to prepare in advance. thanks

Where are you flying into JFK from? What airline are you flying?

Flying from bermuda in jetblue and going to Dubai in emirates.

You have your terminals reversed. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Bermuda and arrive in Terminal 5, then you will take the AirTrain to Terminal 4 and go through security. You don't have to go through Customs at JFK. You have enough time.

I am arriving to JFK from LAX. My airplane is American Air. My plane will be arriving at 5:34 pm. (17:34) on terminal 8. I will be boarding my connecting flight going to Dublin, also with American Air at 6:50 pm (18:50) also on terminal 8. I only have about one hour and 16 minutes to go to my connecting flight. My question is....do I have enough time and do I have to go through security with TAS again? Thanks. Rudcas38

Yes, that is enough time. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in T8.

My flight lands at JFK with Caribbean at 5:35am. I have a connecting flight with american which leaves at 7:30am. would i be able to connect in time? I have no bags except hand luggage. What are the steps to connect at JFK?

With no checked baggage that is barely enough time. You will arrive in Terminal 4, go through US Immigration and Customs, take the AirTrain to Terminal 8, get your AA boarding pass if you don't already have it, and go through security.

  • IAD to JFK to MEX
    Oct 6, 2016
I'm flying on Delta from IAD (washington dc) and I have a layover of 50 min in JFK. Do I have enough time to catch my connecting flight to Mexico City?

Yes, that should be enough time if the flight from IAD is on-time. All you have to do in JFK is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate if both flights are operated by Delta.

  • Connecting from Terminal 8 to American Airline
    Oct 6, 2016
Arriving on Qatar Airline and connecting to MSP on a separate reservation with American Airline. Do I need to transfer to another terminal?

No, both flights will be in Terminal 8. You will arrive, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, and go through US Customs, then go up to the departure level, re-check your bags with American and go through security.

    Oct 5, 2016

You will not go through Immigration in Atlanta. There is no US Immigration or Customs when leaving the US. If you have checked bags you will have to claim them from Delta, re-check them with Etihad, and go through security.

But 2hours and 30 min is sufficient time to collect bags and go to etihad counter and check in?

That's barely enough time if everything goes smoothly.

  • Connecting from terminal 7 to 4

I'm planning to fly into JFK from SFO at 8:15am on United (terminal 7) and need to catch a 10:40am South African Airlines flight from Terminal 4. Is the Air Train the best option for transfer and is this enough time?

United doesn't fly to JFK anymore, so no, you can't be planning that.

Thanks for that heads up! I looked closer at the reservation and the flight was into Newark! I checked NY area flights. Well anyway, I'm looking for the amount of time I need between flights. Thanks!

Well, if you fly to JFK on two separate reservations you need 2-3 hours. If you fly to Newark you realistically have to either arrive on a very early redeye (before 6 AM) or arrive the night before.

  • FCO to JFK to CLE
    Oct 9, 2016
On my return from Italy to Cleveland I have a 2 hour layover at JFK. 1) is that enough time to get through customs and to my flight (which happens to be the last flight to CLE of the day) and 2) do I have to get my checked luggage before going on to the CLE flight? thanks! Rob

Yes, you will have to claim your bags to go through US Customs at JFK. What airlines are you flying? Are both flights on the same reservation or two separate reservations?

Alitalia for the full reservation (codeshare with Delta)

Then yes, that should be just enough time.

    Thanks ZAP

Hello. I fly from SFO and arrive at Terminal 1. I have 1 hour and 20 minutes to get from Terminal 1 to Terminal 4 to catch a flight to CDG. Is there anything I should know about making the connection between terminals? It sounds like the AirTrain is the best option. Thank you!

No flights from SFO to JFK arrive in Terminal 1. What airlines are you flying? If both flights are on Delta they will both be in Terminal 4.

Oops. Typed that incorrectly. I arrive into JFK Terminal 4 on a Delta flight. Connect to a Delta/Air France flight out of Terminal 1 for CDG. Is the AirTrain the best option? I'm assuming when I check in at SFO, I'll be ticketed through to my final destination. Thanks again.

Yes, the AirTrain is your only option. Yes, all you have to do in JFK is take the AirTrain to T1 and go through security. You have just enough time if everything goes smoothly.

    Thanks, ZAP!
