I am looking at traveling from RDU to JFK via Delta arriving at 4:32pm and then taking another Delta flight at 5:39pm to Athens, Greece. Booking tickets all at same time and should be able to check back from RDU to Athens, correct? Is this 1 hour window enough time to connect and go through whatever customs check that we will need to?

There is no US Customs when exiting the US. All you have to do at JFK is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time.

Thanks! How about our checked bags? If we are flying on Delta, do you think an hour is enough time for them to make our flight to Athens? I'm now looking at an arrival from RDU in JFK at 6:45pm and a departure from JFK to Athens at 7:30pm- only a 45 minute connection. I'm worried that may be cutting it too close.

  • Connection flight at terminal 8

My flight from Amsterdam (AMS) arrives at 11:41 am at terminal 4. My connecting flight to STI departs at 2:00 pm from the same terminal. I have checked baggage, do I have to clear customs and go through check in and security again?

I should add that both flights are with Delta Airlines.

  • Arriving LHR-JFK leaving Jet Blue to LAX

Greetings. We are arriving British Airlines from London at 6:50pm on a Tuesday and need to catch a Jet Blue flight to LAX at 9:30pm. Will we have time to clear immigration/customs and domestic security and get to the Jet Blue flight? Thanks!

With checked bags it will be difficult. Without checked bags you stand a pretty good chance.

Looking at flying CDG-JFK (AF) arriving 10:25am on a Thurs and then switching to an AA ticket go JFK-DCA at 11:50am. No checked baggage. Trying to save some time off the Delta connecting flight that leaves for DCA 3hrs later than AA and figured the arrival hall at JFK may not be totally bananas at 10:30am.

It might be possible with no checked bags, but I personally wouldn't try it.

  • Terminal 8 in 1 hour?

I am thinking of booking an itinerary on AA partners from Helsinki (HEL) to Seattle (SEA) with a connection in JFK Terminal 8. Unfortunately, the time between the flights is only 65 minutes: 4:55pm to 6:00pm on a Saturday. Do you think this could work? I have Global Entry.

With Global Entry and no bags it might be possible, but it's certainly well below the allowed minimum International to domestic connection time at JFK.

    Okay. Thanks for replying.

My son is connecting through JFK AA from Dublin connecting on AA to Montreal, both flights arrive and depart through terminal 8. He's a Canadian Citizen, will he need to clear US Immigration and customs and re check his bags for his flight to Montreal? Thanks for assistance.

He will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Dublin (like you do in Canada). In JFK all he has to do is walk from his arrival gate to his departure gate.

Hi, I will be flying Emirates from Milan (MXP) to JFK and will arrive at 7PM. Will I be able to clear customs, collect baggage, and check bags for and American Airlines flight from JFK to Washington DC (DCA) at 9:30PM? Thanks!

It's barely possible if everything goes perfectly.

Thanks for responding! Do you have an idea of ideally how long I should give myself? Also would I be arriving and departing from different terminals? Thanks again!!!

Yes, you will arrive in Terminal 4 and depart from Terminal 8. Ideally you'd want 3 hours.

    Thank you so much ZAP!

Hello, I have the following trip booked: - DCA to JFK American Airlines arriving at 19:00 - JFK to SCL (Santiago Chile) Lan Airlines departing at 20:00 Do I need to go through security again to take my connection? I'm assuming if yes, then I don't have enough time to make it. Any insights on that? Thanks!

Both flights are in Terminal 8. All you have to do in JFK is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time.

    Awesome! Thanks a lot!

I will be flying DUB to JFK to LAX all on Delta airlines, same ticket. They are giving me 1 hour, 36 minutes between flights. Is this even enough connection time.....as long as my flights are on time and I don't stop to eat or dawdle?

Yes, that is plenty of time. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Dublin. All you have to do in JFK is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal 4.

We are flying from Birmingham UK to New York via American Airlines arriving 2hrs 15mins before making a connection still with American Airlines to Florida, all on one ticket, will the 2hrs 15 mins be enough to connect and will we have to go through security/customs and also get luggage and re check in?

Yes, that should be enough time.

Long shot here: any special accommodations JFK makes if I have a 45 min layover? I land at 10pm from Stockholm on Norwegian Air Shuttle and leave on Jet Blue for Portland Me at 1045?

That connection is impossible. Do not book that. With that late arrival you will have to spend the night in NY and fly out in the morning.

That connection time is way too short.

  • Connecting international to domestic flight

Hi everyone, i'm flying into JFK International landing at 4:40pm and hoping to get my bags out and through customs to catch a domestic 6:30pm flight on Delta. I'll need to switch 2 flights. Is this enough time? Are the terminals close?

What airline are you flying to JFK? Every terminal at JFK except T2 handles international arrivals. Are both tickets on the same reservation or two separate reservations?

Hi Zap, 2 bookings with different airlines. Firstly Qantas then Delta for domestic

The Qantas flight to JFK clears US Immigration and Customs in LAX. You will just arrive in Terminal 7, claim your bags, take the AirTrain to your departure terminal (either 2 or 4), re-check your bags, and go through security. It is possible, but it doesn't leave much time to spare.

I am travelling with my five year old son from DXB to RDU via JFK. Landing at 850am on Emirates 203.I need go through Immigration and Customs at JFK and catch my flight to RDU at 12:15. I want to know whether i will get some help in clearing customs as I would have having four suitcases and two carry on luggages and manage my son as well.

There will be free luggage carts in the international baggage claim hall. You can use those to carry your bags through customs and to the re-check desk.

Thank you so much for quick response. Will I get some assistance in moving the bags as I need to move four big large suitcases along with two carryons using those carts. I am sure I cannot fit in all six in one cart. Will I be able to ?

It depends how big your bags are. There are no people there to assist. It's generally not a good idea to travel with more baggage than you are capable of moving yourself.
