  • Meeting arrivals at terminal 4 after arriving at terminal 7
    Jan 29, 2015
I have to meet some friend at terminal 4 but I will be arriving at terminal 7. Should I just cab aline it or meet them to share a cab

A cab from JFK to Manhattan is about $60. So if you can meet up with them that would be preferable. You can take the AirTrain from T4 to T7 and meet them on the arrivals level. Better yet, if you are going to Manhattan you could take the AirTrain to the LIRR or Subway there. It's much less expensive and usually faster than a taxi.

  • connection time
    Jan 28, 2015
Hi, our fllht comes from orlando on delta at terminal 4 and then we have a connection for Paris at terminal 1 , is 1h40 enough between connections? Thanks!

That should be enough if your first flight is on-time. If you purchased your tickets together your bags will be transferred automatically. You just need to take the AirTrain from T4 to T1 and go through security.

  • Baggage Re-check
    Jan 28, 2015
Flying from Dublin to LAX. Arrive in JFK T4 and have connecting flight from T4. 3:30 hours between flights. Do I have to Collect my bags and re-check them in?

Yes, that should be plenty of time. Dublin has US Immigration and Customs pre-clearance. All you have to do in JFK is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Connecting Terminal 1 to 5, 8:30pm on a Friday
    Jan 28, 2015
My companion and I are U.S. citizens. We'll be arriving at JFK (Terminal 1) on Norwegian Air on Friday, February 20 and need to depart on JetBlue from Terminal 5. Obviously, we need time for Immigration, Customs, the Airtrain to Terminal 5, and Terminal 5 security (we do have JetBlue's Even More Speed, and we'll have checked in online and printed our JetBlue boarding passes already). We are traveling carryon only, so we don't have to wait for bags. Is 2 hours 45 minutes (could be more like 2 hours and 15 minutes, as the Norwegian flight is typically 20-30 minutes late) enough tp make the connection, or are we cutting it too close for comfort? When I check the Immigration website wait times, Friday evenings at Terminal 1 seem to average about 30 minutes for wait time, although the averages are somewhat skewed by the handful of people (presumably non-citizens) who have extremely long waits... Your thoughts?

Yeah, 2 hr 45 mins should be enough time since you won't have checked bags and have already checked in.

  • Terminal Transfer
    Jan 28, 2015
Hi, I am flying to JFK from New Delhi, India at 7:35 AM in Terminal 4. I then have a separately booked flight from JFK Terminal 1 to Toronto at 10:35 AM. Are 3 hours enough to go through immigration at T4 and then go to T1 for my 10:35 flight?

Yes, that should be enough time. However no airlines that fly from JFK to Toronto use T1. What airline are you flying to Toronto?

Sorry, I am flying from T7 to Toronto

Is there enough time from 7:35 AM - 10:35 AM to pick up our checked bags (6 suitcases), go through immigration, and go from T4 to T7.

You should have enough time. If you purchased your tickets together and your bags are tagged through to YYZ, then you can re-check your bags at the transfer desk in T4. Otherwise you will have to take them with you on the airtrain to T7 and pay a fairly hefty excess baggage fee.

  • T1 to T4
    Jan 28, 2015
Hello, i am travelling from CDG to San Juan with one stop, in JFK on 21st February. I have 3,5 hours between flights ( on JFK), to get from T1 to T4...is that enough time? Thank you

    Yes, that is enough time.

  • International arriving to JFK domestic to LAX
    Jan 28, 2015
We arrive at 145pm on AA from Italy and continue on AA to LAX at 3:00pm. What is the procedure and is that enough time?

That's not really enough time. It's 15 minutes shorter than the minimum connecting time. You arrive in T8, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the transfer desk, go through security and to your departure gate.

  • Connecting between Terminal 4 and 5
    Jan 28, 2015
Hi, My wife is traveling from India to San Jose. and she has a connecting flight in JFK. She will be reaching at Terminal 4 and have to go to Terminal 5 to board the next flight. Let me know the procedure for the same. Thanks.

She will arrive in Terminal 4, go through US Immigration, claim her bags, go through US Customs, then if she purchased her tickets together and her bags are tagged through to San Jose, she can re-check her bags at the transfer desk, otherwise she will have to take her bags with her. In T5 she will check her bag if she hasn't already, get her JetBlue boarding pass if she doesn't already have it, go through security and to her departure gate.

She has booked her ticket together. So i assume she can checkin her bag in T4 itself. And will she have to come out of the airport for moving from T4 to T5, as am worried about the climate. If its within the airport then normal temperature would be maintained isn't it.

The connections to the airtrain are covered. New York is not so cold that it will give her frostbite in a few minutes.

  • SFO to JFK to Brussels
    Jan 27, 2015
We are flying from SFO arriving in JFK Terminal 7 at 3:40PM. Connecting flight from JFK Terminal 1 to Brussels Belgium at 5:55PM. We booked the flight from SFO to Brussels on Ebookers (so 1 ticket I guess). Is this enough time to transfer? Do we need to pass through customs again?

Yes, that should be enough time. You will take the AirTrain from T7 to T1. You will have to go through security in T1. You will not have to go through customs as you do not go through US Customs when leaving the US. You will go through Schengen passport control when you get to Brussels.

    Thank you!!

  • Flying into terminal 4 leaving from terminal 5
    Jan 28, 2015
I will fly into JFK with KLM and arrive at 3:40PM My next flight is at 7:14 PM from Terminal 5. Will I make it and do I take a train or a shuttle bus? Does this cost money and how much? Thanks!

After you clear Customs you will follow the signs to the AirTrain. it is free to take between Terminals. Once there you will have to check your bags at the counter with JetBlue (if you have any). You should have enough time.

    thank you!

  • Terminal 4 to Terminal 1 - 1 hr 17 min layover
    Jan 27, 2015
Hi, I'm flying from DFW to JFK then on to Paris, my flight from arrives at JFK at 2:48 pm in Terminal 4, the next one leaves Terminal 1 at 4:05 pm. Will I make it? Had no idea one has to go BACK through security just for a connection.

That should be enough time. You have to go through security because you have to change terminals. if you would have flown Delta to Paris then you would not have to change terminals and go through security.

Thanks. Yeah this is the only airport I've ever heard of such, every other one I've ever been to has a connection train between terminals that's inside security.

Oh, and I actually am flying Delta, but the JFK to Paris leg is AirFrance, which I guess is a Delta partner.

JFK is a rather old airport, designed before connections and alliances were really a thing.

  • madrid to JFK to Orlando
    Jan 27, 2015
we are flying to JFK and we have to take a transfer. Have we time enough with 1.35hours? we are flying with American Airlines and we bought the tikets together.

Yes, that should be enough time. In JFK you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security.

  • SFO to JFK to CDG
    Jan 26, 2015
We are flying SFO to JFK arriving 5:27pm and then on a separate ticket (tour group) connecting to Air France for a 7:10pm flight. Do we need to go through security twice? Enough time? - if not, and we changed our flight to arrive at JFK 3:39pm - enough time? No checked luggage - just one carry on each. Thank you.

You will go through security once in SFO and again in JFK since you will have to exit the secure area, take the AirTrain to T1, get your boarding passes (group tickets usually can't check in online) and then go through security. I think you will barely have enough time since you aren't plan on bringing checked bags. However, if you can move to the earlier flight I would do that. Delays at JFK are fairly common.

This is a great help. Thanks very much.

  • 45mins Bos-JFK-YYZ
    Jan 26, 2015
When reach JFK on AA flight and need to transfer within same T8 from gate 42 to 31D. Will 45mins be enough? Do we need to claim check-in luggage during the transit? Do we need to go thru custom?

All you need to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You don't have to do anything with your bags. That's enough time if your first flight is on-time. You will go through Canadian Immigration and Customs when you get to Toronto.

    Hi Zap, Thanks :)

  • International transfer
    Jan 26, 2015
    Arriving AA at JFK 21;00 at T8. Connecting flight same ticket BA, Terminal 7 AT 00.05. After clearing security in T8 I understand we claim bags. Do we take our own bags to T7 or can they be re-checked in T8? If not what is the re-check in process at T8- is there a transfer desk? Will transfer time be enough? Thanks.;

Is your AA flight into JFK International or Domestic? That determines the procedure. I can't answer your questions without knowing that.

    International to international

OK, Yes, you will arrive in Terminal 8, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the transfer desk if they are tagged through to your final destination (if you bought all your tickets together they will be). Then you will exit T8, take the AirTrain one stop to T7 and go through security and to your departure gate.

If you purchased two separate tickets you will have to take your bags on the AirTrain with you to T7.

    Very clear, thank you
