Hi,

I'll be transiting through JFK Terminal 4 -- London -> JFK -> Cincinnati.
Is anyone able to walk me through exactly what will happen?

The impression I got so far from reading various things, I have to:
1) de-plane
2) go through immigration
3) pick up baggage
--> is this in the same area as those arriving or is there some special area for those in transit?
--> Will I be going out into the arrival area like any other arriving (not transiting) passenger?
4) go somewhere to drop off baggage
--> where do I go to do this? Should I look for signs for Transfers/Transits or 'Departures'?
5) then onto departure gate.

Or is the process different because I'll be in the same terminal the whole time?

Thank you very much for any advice.

Regards,
Lucy
Yes, you will go to the same arrival area as everyone. The drop off area is right after you clear customs.
Thank you very much for your help. Really appreciated. :-)
I am flying Cathay Pacific Airways from Hong Kong via JFK to Orlando. It is one reservation through Cathay Pacific. We will be flying Cathay Pacific from HK to JFK, however, the connecting flight from JFK to Orlando will be American Airline. I understand I will need to go through immigration check point. Since there is a connecting flight in the same reservation, do I have to claim my baggage? And if I do, how can I check back in? Thanks in advance.
Yes, you will still have to claim your bags to go through US Customs in JFK. Then you will re-check it at the re-check desk, take the AirTrain to Terminal 8, and go through security.
How far is it from terminal 4 to terminal 8 by walking? I ll be coming from KDL Dutch Airlines and my contuniation flight is to Santo Domingo
You can't walk. You have to take the AirTrain. It takes about 20 minutes + security.
I am trying to book a flight between Mexico and St Martin's and one of the options is 2 flights, both on Delta, that connect via JFK. Should I factor in the time to go through customs when arriving from Mexico or can I avoid the time needed for customs since I will be jumping on a connecting international flight? Thank you
You will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through security and to your departure gate. You need at least 2.5 hours
A am flying on 3rd June from Las Vegas on Delta to JFK (scheduled arrival 14:26) and than on Austrian Airlines from JFK to Vienna (scheduled departure 17:40), which leaves me 3 hours connection time on JFK. Do you think it is enough? The flights are booked separately (on two tickets). Thank you.
Yes, that should be enough time if everything goes smoothly.
I'm flying an international flight with South American Airways to JFK at 8:00 AM and have a second reservation with Delta at 11 am leaving JFK for Seattle. Is this enough time to go through customs, re-check bags, etc? I have global entry so hoping that helps but I'm not familiar with JFK airport.
There's no such thing as South American Airways. Do you mean South African? That should be enough time.
Shoot, yes South African - sorry! And thank you very much for your response.
I am flying from Buffalo on Delta to JFK and then onward with Virgin to Heathrow (single flights booked through Virgin). Delta have changed my flight on 12 May so I am landing in JFK with one hour to connect with my Virgin flight home. Is that going to be enough time for baggage transfer etc?
Yes, that should be enough time. All you have to do in JFK is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate which should both be in Terminal 4.
Thank you.
In August of this year we are flying from LHR into JKF flight AA105 and then have a 2 hour connection time before flight AA1120 to Orlando , all this be enough? It's a special family holiday and I don't want to be spending all my time worrying on the flight over if we are going to make it!!! Thank you.
Yes, that is enough time if everything goes smoothly.
I have just had confirmation that Delta have changed our flights and we now have a 90 min connection. Is this enough time? Flying from Tampa into JFK with delta and then onto UK with virgin.
That should be enough time if both flights are on the same reservation. If you arrive in T2, Delta runs a shuttle inside security to T4 where you depart inside security.
Thank you, yes just one reservation/ticket no. My only concern is that we won't be able to make a run for it as we have our parents with us!
Unless your flight is late you shouldn't have to run.
I have separate tix on Delta arriving T4 at 17:30 and Aeroflot departing T1 at 19:30. Planning not to check bags. I know this is tight if I leave security. Is it possible to get Delta's SkyTeam to check me in to Aeroflot flight so I can use the shuttle and stay within security? T1 has no TSA pre and last time I was there it was a good 30-35 minutes wait.
You have to leave security. There is no shuttle from T4 to T1 inside security.
