I only have 1 hour to make my connection in JFK. I'm coming from Miami (national) and going to Quebec City (international) with a checked bag. Same company (Delta). Is there enough time? Do I have to pass through security again or is it possible to change terminal without going through this (like in Newark)?

Yes, that should be enough time. If you arrive in Terminal 2 you can take a shuttle inside security to your departure gate in Terminal 4. If you arrive in Terminal 4 you just have to walk to your departure gate.

Hello. I arrive from Toronto on Air Canada on March 26, at 9:52am - into T7. I leave at 1:15pm (3hrs, 23 minutes later) on Japan Air Lines to Tokyo out of T1. Just triple checking that I pre-clear customs and immigration in Toronto, and can have my bags tagged through to Tokyo. So all I have to do is exit the secure area, take AirTrain to T1, and go through security again? Is 3:23 enough time to do this? Both flights were booked on the same reservation and I believe I'll get boarding passes for both flights when I check-in online. Thanks so much for your help.

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. If you purchased your tickets on one reservation they will be checked to Toronto. You have the procedure correct and should have plenty of time. You may have to have JAL re-issue your Tokyo boarding pass in New York.

Thanks a lot for the reassurance. Can you tell me how I'll know if JAL has to re-issue that boarding pass? If they need to do this, will I have to do that at a check-in desk in T1 before I go back through security? Thanks again.

Either the Air Canada agent in Toronto will tell you or they will call you to the boarding gate desk at the JAL gate in JFK. If Air Canada issues you a boarding pass for your JAL flight then you can use it to get through security in JFK.

Flying into JFK on American Air on April 13 a Wednesday at 1:30 pm from Paris (CDG).Connecting to American flight to to DCA. Time between flights is 85 minutes. I have Global Entry. I will have checked bags. Do you think I have enough time to make the connection? Thanks.

Without Global Entry I'd say this was impossible, but since you have it I'd say you have a chance.

  • Aer Lingus to Delta

If I take the aer lingus (April 17, 2016) from shannon, ireland to jfk arriving at 2:25pm and fly out on the 3:34 delta. It's 1 hour and 5 minutes layover time. Would that be realistic? Likely would have a bag, and global entry. I saw a prior posting about clearing immigration in shannon? I'm not sure what that means? Thank you!!

Yes, you will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Shannon, meaning that in JFK All you will have to do is claim your bags from Aer Lingus and take them to Delta to re-check and then go through security. Still, 69 minutes will be very difficult.

  • 3 separate iineraries for 3 flights.Do I need to claim bags @ JFK?

Hello. I will be traveling from United Arab Emirates (UAE) from Abu Dhabi Airport to San Antonio, TX on 3 different flights with 3 different itineraries. 1. Abu Dhabi to Cairo, Egypt through Etihad, Arrive in Cairo at 2:30 AM local time. 2. Cairo Airport to JFK. Departs Cairo at 10 AM local time on EgyptAir, and arrives at JFK 4:30 PM Terminal 4. 3. JFK to San Antonio, TX. Departs JFK Terminal 2 at 6:30 PM on Delta. My questions are: 1) From my departing city (Abu Dhabi, UAE), can I request that Etihad Airways put tags on my check in baggage for final destination San Antonio TX, even though I am traveling on 3 different airlines and 3 different itineraries? 2) Do I have to claim my checked baggage from either Cairo Airport or JFK Airport and recheck my baggage again? 3) At JFK, will I need to claim my checked baggage after/before customs and recheck my baggage at the Delta counter and if so, will I have enough time to get through customs, claim my baggage, recheck my baggage, and get to Terminal 2 for my flight to San Antonio TX in 2 hours? Really need help on this one, as I have never flown multi-destinations on separate itineraries and separate airlines. Thanks !

No, Etihad won't check your bags through to SAT. You will have to claim your bags at both Cairo and JFK. It will be very difficult for you to make your connection in JFK. You really should have thought twice before purchasing such a complex itinerary just to save a little money.

  • Changing terminals

Arriving terminal 4 midnight Virgin flight from London, depart Terminal 2 Delta to Orlando 08.30am . Will luggage be transferred or do we have to collect and go through customs clearance , then recheck in terminal 2?

When you arrive you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags and go through US Customs. If your bags are tagged to MCO then you can re-check them at the re-check desk right after customs. Otherwise you will have to keep them with you and I recommend staying in the T4 lobby as it is much nicer than the T2 lobby - you won't be able to go through security in T2 until it opens at about 430 AM.

  • Transfer time between terminals

Hello, I'm scheduled to arrive on a BA flight from London to NY JFK arriving at 12h10. I need to connect with a flight from NY JFK to Chicago thereafter, which I have not booked yet. I'd like to know how much time I should allow to clear passport control with an EU passport, and transfer from Terminal 7 to either Terminal 5 or 2, Any advice in respect of time and domestic airline would be appreciated and also how one gets from terminal to terminal. Many thanks.

If you're booking two separate tickets then I recommend 3 hours between flights. Also, Delta flights from JFK to Chicago usually depart from Terminal 4. All terminals at JFK are connected outside security by the AirTrain.

I am arriving JFK international AA flight at 1:40 pm terminal 8 and departure American Eagle at 3:10 pm. With customs, checked luggage ....is there enough to time to make connection??

That's barely enough time if everything goes perfectly.

  • Rechecking bags?

I fly from Winnipeg to Toronto to JFK to Paris. I've been told I don't have to recheck my bags in Toronto, but will I have to recheck them in New York? First time flying alone internationally and a tad nervous, especially with all these layovers.

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. You don't have to do anything with them in JFK if all your tickets are on the same reservation.

Hi.. I am planning to book a flight from Miami to JFK which arrives at JFK at 10:05 AM and then have a JFK to Mumbai international flight at 4:30 PM. These are separate tickets. Will the transfer time be sufficient, I am travelling alone with a kid,

Yes, that should be plenty of time. The AirTrain connects all terminals outside security.

i have a flight from toronto to santo domingo connecting in jfk t4 al flight w delta its 45 mins enough time to connect? do i have to do security at jfk again or i can go straight to the international side?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. You can go straight to your departure gate in JFK. There is no "international side". You have enough time if your flight from Toronto is on-time.

is it 2.30 hours enough to connect from T1 (arriving from Russia by Aeroflot) to T8 American Airlines (departing to Cancun)? many thanks for your advices!

If on two separate reservations with checked baggage, its barely enough time if everything goes perfectly.

  • QUESTION

hi i am arriving at terminal 1 on april 10th with austrian, at 14:25. i want to fly to las vegas . My options are jet blue 17:46 , delta 18:15 and american airlines 17:10. i don't know what is their terminal number. My question is: do i have time to couch AA 17:10 ( how much time i need to be save for the next flight ?) Thank you

JetBlue uses Terminal 5, Delta uses Terminals 2 and 4, and American uses Terminal 8. I would take the JetBlue or Delta flight.

  • Flying from YYZ to DXB with 1 hr layover in JFK

Just wondering if I will have to claim my baggage or if it will be automatically transferred? YYZ to JFK is on Air Canada and JFK to DXB is on Emirates. Both were booked through cheapoair at the same time. Really stressing about this :( Thanks in advance

It's possible but difficult. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto, but you will have to take the AirTrain from Terminal 7 to Terminal 4, get your Emirates boarding pass if you don't already have it, and go through security.

Do you know if my baggage will be automatically transferred by any chance or will I have to claim it and recheck it in? If it won't be transferred I'll end up just taking a carry on

Since both tickets are on the same reservation you should not have to claim and re-check it on the way to Dubai.
