  • Flying with Delta on 1 ticket but changing at Jfk

We are going to be flying from London to Toronto with Delta on 1ticket with a layover of 88 mins in JFK. We are worried this may not be enough time as we do not know if we need to pass through customs & immigration or collect & re-check our bags? You have mentioned on other posts about Terminal 4 & Delta's new procedures for connections so I assume they will help us make the connecting flight?

That is 2 minutes shorter than the recommended connection time. Yes, you will arrive in Terminal 4, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go through security and to your departure gate, which should also be in Terminal 4.

  • Baggage transfer for connecting flights

Hi, I will be traveling on delta from GNV to JFK, eta is 3 pm. My next flight is on SQ to Singapore at 9 pm. I understand that delta will not check my baggage thru to my final destination. As this is new to me, may I have your advice on the process to check in my baggage. Thank you.

Claim your baggage from Delta in Terminal 2 or Terminal 4 where you arrive, bring it to the Singapore Airlines check-in counter in Terminal 4. Get your Singapore Airlines boarding pass, go through security. It's quite simple.

Thank you for the quick reply. Do I need to clear immigration after collecting my baggage? Also, do you know whether I can check in immediately with Singapore Airlines or do i have to wait as I understand check-in counters only open around 2 hours before flight. I would like to check-in early to walk around T4 and use the lounge if possible. Thanks.

You do not go through US Immigration and Customs when leaving the US and Gainesville and New York are both located in the United States, so you don't go through US Immigration on that flight either. The Singapore check-in counter probably opens more like 3-4 hours before the flight. They have a lot of passengers to process.

  • Arriving from Paris on American; Leaving on JetBlue

I arrive from Paris on American Airlines at 1:40p, and am supposed to catch a JetBlue flight at 4:30p. Not sure what terminal I arrive in from Paris; I think JB is Terminal 5. I will have to claim luggage, clear customs, change terminals, re-check baggage, and go through security. Is that enough time? In general, how much time is recommended when transferring terminals from international destinations and changing airlines?

You will arrive in Terminal 8. That is probably enough time to make your connection. You can check in online for your JetBlue flight before you leave Paris.

Thank you, ZAP. How much time is generally recommended when transferring airlines and changing terminals when clearing customs is involved? I could ostensibly fly another airline (like United) and leave an hour later.

the roughly 3 hours you have is about the minimum I would recommend when traveling on two separate tickets.

  • Transfer in JFK
    Mar 6, 2015

Hi, I would like to know if I have enough time for my transit because I'll arrive in JFK at 12:45pm with AA (from London) and i should take a United flight to SFO at 3:30pm. Almost it's 2 separated book and the terminal is respectfully T8 and T7. Thanks for your answer

Without checked luggage, that's an easy connection. With checked luggage you will have to transfer it yourself from T8 to T7 and re-check it. It's possible but more difficult.

  • Enough time?

We arrive back in the US via Air China at 2:30pm (I believe that is Terminal 1). We then have to connect to a JetBlue 5:39pm flight out of Terminal 5. Will that give us enough time presuming we arrive on time? We booked flights separately. thanks.

That's enough time. You take the air train to connect you to terminal 5.

  • terminal 4 to Terminal 1

Arrive from Pheonix @ terminal 1 at 2.45pm and will take off from Terminal 4 at 4.15 - is it enough ? what is the best way to change terminal ?

No flights from Phoenix arrive in Terminal 1. What airlines are you flying and where are you flying to?

good point. I will actually arrive with AF8864 at Terminal 4 at 2.45pm and will leave to Paris with AF023 taking off at 4.15pm from Terminal 1. Is it Ok and what is the best way to change terminal

Note that the first flight will be operated by Delta. Your bags will be transferred automatically. You will have to take the AirTrain from T4 to T1 and go through security. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

My starting point is San Diegp arriving at JFK at 2:52 pm. International flight to Rome departs at 4:35 pm. I have checked lugguage. Is this enough time??

Were your tickets purchased together or separately? What airlines are you flying? I can't answer this question without that info.

Tickets purchased together through a tour group Globus. Flying Delta.

You should have enough time. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate which will both likely be in Terminal 4. All Delta gates at JFK are connected inside security and to you don't go through US Customs when leaving the US.

  • Enough time to clear customs and transfer?

On July 3, AF8702, arriving from Nice, AF 2958 departing for Seattle--will 2h 37m be enough time to clear customs and transfer?

Note that both flights will be operated by Delta and both will be in Terminal 4. You should have enough time.

  • SQ connect to DL
    Mar 3, 2015

Hi, we are arriving into JFK, supposedly T4 on SQ. Our connection flight to MCO is on DL. I reckon we have to clear immigration, collect our baggage and travel to DL terminal to re-check in the baggage? Is there a DL counter in Terminal 4 that we can check-in our baggage and get our boarding passes before we take the train to DL terminal? Tks!

    DL's terminal IS Terminal 4.

Oh, I thought DL operates from T2 as well.

The vast majority of their flights are now in T4 and even if your flight departs from T2, you can check-in and go through security in T4 then take a shuttle bus to T2.

  • Delta International to Domestic Connection
    Mar 2, 2015

I will be arriving at JFK on a Delta flight from Italy (Terminal 4) and transferring to a Delta Connections domestic flight (likely Terminal 2). After exiting customs in Terminal 4, what is best way to get to Terminal 2? Does Delta have a dedicated shuttle for such transfers? If not, is it generally faster to go through security at Terminal 4 and take Delta's JITNEY or to take the AirTrain to Terminal 2 and go through security there?

Delta recently opened an expansion of T4 and nearly all Delta connection flights operate from there now. If you are one of the rare flights operating from T2, since you will be outside security already after clearing customs, it's probably fastest to take the AirTrain.

  • Connecting from Virgin Atl flight from LHR to Delta flight to Buffalo
    Mar 2, 2015
    1
On July 15th we will arrive around 2:30 at JFK on a Virgin Atlantic flight from LHR. At 4:20 we would need to catch a Delta flight to Buffalo, NY. Is this enough time to clear customs and change terminals?

It is possible if you don't have any baggage to claim and recheck. If youbdo then you will be cutting it VERY close and will need to rush at every step to make it in time.

  • San Juan-JFK-Montreal connection

Flying Delta. 1hr 45 min layover at JFK from San Juan PR to Montreal (early evening). Should be sufficient however should we expect any issues re luggage etc? Do not know terminal or gates yet. Thanks

Both flights will likely be in Terminal 4, but all Delta gates at JFK are connected inside security. You have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

  • Connection time?.

I am flying into D 44 and flying out of D 36 with a one hr. Time. Is it possible?

Is your first flight domestic or International? What airline or airlines are you flying? I'm not familiar with any gates that start with "D" at JFK.

You are correct...arriving Delta 3880 at gate B 44, which I cannot find on map. Leaving Delta 484, leaving from gate B 36, which appears on the terminal 4 map.

Didn't mention that my first flight is domestic. Then, international

That is plenty of time. all you have to do is a 2 or 3 minute walk between gates.

  • How much time?

I'm flying into JFK Terminal 4 from London on Virgin due to land at 18.30 and flying from JFK Terminal 5 at 20.33 on Jetblue to Denver. Have allowed enough time to get through immigration and change terminals?

Did you purchase your tickets together or separately? If separately it will be hard for you to get through customs and then get your baggage to T5 before the checked baggage cutoff (this is assuming you are checking bags). if you purchased tickets together or are not checking a bag I think you'll be OK.

Thank you. Unfortunately I purchased my tickets separately so will have to pray my flight from London is early!

  • Flight Connection - enough time?
    Feb 25, 2015

I will be flying from DUB to JFK arriving in T5 and need to transfer to Delta (T3 i think) going to MCO. I have separate tickets so will need to collect my bags and checkin for the second flight. I have 2hr50mins in between both. Does anyone know if this is enough time?

JFK no longer has a T3. Your Delta flight will depart from T2 or T4. Since you pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Dublin you should have enough time. The AirTrain connects all terminals outside security.
