Arriving from England at T4 (Delta) and then 2 hrs later on to Orlando T2 (Delta) Will we have to collects luggage and go thro security again

Yes, you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, take the AirTrain to Terminal 2, go through security and to your departure gate. You have just enough time if everything goes smoothly.

Hi, If I fly from Amsterdam to Montreal (Canada) and have a correspondence in JFK. Do I need to pick-up my checked bag and go through security again? Thank you!

Yes, you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, and go through security. If you are an EU citizen you need to complete ESTA before your trip.

  • Terminal 4 transfer

April 7 , my parents from Guangzhou to JFK, arrive at T4 at 5;10am, 2hr late, they need to take fly to Toronto, westjet airline, T4. Please advise whether they need to go to security custom, or they only stay at Terminal 4 to wait for another fly. your clear answer will helpful. thanks!

In JFK they will go through US Immigration, claim their bags, go through US Customs, re-check their bags a the re-check desk if they are tagged to YYZ, then go through security and to their departure gate (westjet does not fly from JFK to Toronto, so that flight is likely on Delta). They need US Transit visas if they are Chinese citizens. They have just enough time if everything goes smoothly.

Travel agency company advised the luggage is directly to Toronto, they need not to claim luggage in States. As they arrive in Terminal 4, and departure at Terminal 4. I checked the JFK airline, it is show Westject in Terminal 4. Any body can verify this points? My parents have USA visa and Canada visa. China Citizenship, they are 83year old. Therefore, clear information is very important for us,thanks!

Your travel agency is 100% wrong and clearly doesn't know much about transiting in the United States. I can without a doubt tell you that they will have to claim their bags and that Westjet doesn't fly from JFK to Toronto.

  • From terminal 5 to Terminal 1

I fly from Toronto to JFK to pick my son, my fly will arrive at T5, my son from Shanghai to JFK, arrive T1, he is 14 yrs old, I need meet him in T1, then we will take another fly to Toronto at same day. I don't know how to go to T1 when I arrive T5 without any security checking. Can I allow to take inter-airtrain to go to T1 directly?

No, your flight will not arrive in Terminal 5. No flights from Toronto arrive in Terminal 5. What airline are you flying? The AirTrain runs outside security. Terminal 1 is not connected to any other terminals inside security. Also, you will have to meet him outside security anyway since after he clears customs he will be outside security.

  • Will we have time to swap over?

We are flying from South Africa via Dubai on an Emirates flight. Due to land at JFK at 14h15 on 17th May 2016 at Terminal 4. Our next flight is to JAX on JetBlue at 15h45 from Terminal 5. We will be swapping over as the JetBlue tickets are not on the same reservation. We will have baggage which we will need to collect and transfer to the JetBlue flight

No, that's not enough time with tickets on two separate reservations. You need to book a later flight to JAX.

I have already booked the flights. What will it cost to change? Is there a flight soon after that one?

You will have to check with Jetblue. You should have researched this BEFORE buying tickets.

Hello I'm travelling from Lome, Togo to New York (on Ethopia Airlines) where I will board another plane to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (on AeroMexico). I have 2 hours to make the connection. I don't need to check a bag. Do I have enough time to change planes, find the gates and all that jazz? I will also be doing the same trip in reverse the week after.

With no checked bags you barely have enough time if everything goes perfectly. I personally would want more time.

Ok so I am flying to JFK from SEA arriving at 4pm in Terminal 8. Have to go to Terminal 5 for connection that leaves at 7:40. Do I have to go thru security again and are the inter terminal trains fast?

The trains are fast and run frequently. Yes, you will have to go through security again in Terminal 5. Yes, you should have enough time.

  • FCO to JFK to DFW

I arrive at JFK from FCO at 1:15 and connection to DFW is 3:00. Will this be ample time with checked bag and do I need to collect and recheck my bags?

Yes, you will have to claim your bags, go through US Customs, and re-check your bags. You barely have enough time if everything is on the same airline and goes smoothly.

yes, all flights are AA. Do you know what terminal the departing flight to DFW would be. I believe I will arrive at terminal 5??

All AA flights are in Terminal 8. If you're seeing Terminal 5 on your reservation that is referring to the departure terminal from FCO.

Yes, that's it. Thank you. How far is baggage claim from arriving gates? I don't have much of an option for this flight, I'll have to hope for the best. Just curious, I've never flown international, do all airports require this on arriving international flights? This is my returning flight, I have us passport.

You will be directed to immigration and the international baggage claim after you arrive. It shouldn't be that far. Yes, this is the procedure when entering the US at every airport.

I only have 1 hour to make my connection in JFK. I'm coming from Miami (national) and going to Quebec City (international) with a checked bag. Same company (Delta). Is there enough time? Do I have to pass through security again or is it possible to change terminal without going through this (like in Newark)?

Yes, that should be enough time. If you arrive in Terminal 2 you can take a shuttle inside security to your departure gate in Terminal 4. If you arrive in Terminal 4 you just have to walk to your departure gate.

Hello. I arrive from Toronto on Air Canada on March 26, at 9:52am - into T7. I leave at 1:15pm (3hrs, 23 minutes later) on Japan Air Lines to Tokyo out of T1. Just triple checking that I pre-clear customs and immigration in Toronto, and can have my bags tagged through to Tokyo. So all I have to do is exit the secure area, take AirTrain to T1, and go through security again? Is 3:23 enough time to do this? Both flights were booked on the same reservation and I believe I'll get boarding passes for both flights when I check-in online. Thanks so much for your help.

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. If you purchased your tickets on one reservation they will be checked to Toronto. You have the procedure correct and should have plenty of time. You may have to have JAL re-issue your Tokyo boarding pass in New York.

Thanks a lot for the reassurance. Can you tell me how I'll know if JAL has to re-issue that boarding pass? If they need to do this, will I have to do that at a check-in desk in T1 before I go back through security? Thanks again.

Either the Air Canada agent in Toronto will tell you or they will call you to the boarding gate desk at the JAL gate in JFK. If Air Canada issues you a boarding pass for your JAL flight then you can use it to get through security in JFK.

Flying into JFK on American Air on April 13 a Wednesday at 1:30 pm from Paris (CDG).Connecting to American flight to to DCA. Time between flights is 85 minutes. I have Global Entry. I will have checked bags. Do you think I have enough time to make the connection? Thanks.

Without Global Entry I'd say this was impossible, but since you have it I'd say you have a chance.

  • Aer Lingus to Delta

If I take the aer lingus (April 17, 2016) from shannon, ireland to jfk arriving at 2:25pm and fly out on the 3:34 delta. It's 1 hour and 5 minutes layover time. Would that be realistic? Likely would have a bag, and global entry. I saw a prior posting about clearing immigration in shannon? I'm not sure what that means? Thank you!!

Yes, you will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Shannon, meaning that in JFK All you will have to do is claim your bags from Aer Lingus and take them to Delta to re-check and then go through security. Still, 69 minutes will be very difficult.

  • 3 separate iineraries for 3 flights.Do I need to claim bags @ JFK?
    Mar 19, 2016

Hello. I will be traveling from United Arab Emirates (UAE) from Abu Dhabi Airport to San Antonio, TX on 3 different flights with 3 different itineraries. 1. Abu Dhabi to Cairo, Egypt through Etihad, Arrive in Cairo at 2:30 AM local time. 2. Cairo Airport to JFK. Departs Cairo at 10 AM local time on EgyptAir, and arrives at JFK 4:30 PM Terminal 4. 3. JFK to San Antonio, TX. Departs JFK Terminal 2 at 6:30 PM on Delta. My questions are: 1) From my departing city (Abu Dhabi, UAE), can I request that Etihad Airways put tags on my check in baggage for final destination San Antonio TX, even though I am traveling on 3 different airlines and 3 different itineraries? 2) Do I have to claim my checked baggage from either Cairo Airport or JFK Airport and recheck my baggage again? 3) At JFK, will I need to claim my checked baggage after/before customs and recheck my baggage at the Delta counter and if so, will I have enough time to get through customs, claim my baggage, recheck my baggage, and get to Terminal 2 for my flight to San Antonio TX in 2 hours? Really need help on this one, as I have never flown multi-destinations on separate itineraries and separate airlines. Thanks !

No, Etihad won't check your bags through to SAT. You will have to claim your bags at both Cairo and JFK. It will be very difficult for you to make your connection in JFK. You really should have thought twice before purchasing such a complex itinerary just to save a little money.

Arriving terminal 4 midnight Virgin flight from London, depart Terminal 2 Delta to Orlando 08.30am . Will luggage be transferred or do we have to collect and go through customs clearance , then recheck in terminal 2?

When you arrive you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags and go through US Customs. If your bags are tagged to MCO then you can re-check them at the re-check desk right after customs. Otherwise you will have to keep them with you and I recommend staying in the T4 lobby as it is much nicer than the T2 lobby - you won't be able to go through security in T2 until it opens at about 430 AM.
