  • Clearing Customs

I arrive at JFK on Nov 8th at 6:05 AM from Brazil on AA term 8. I have a fligth on same airline and terminal at 8:00 AM, I can't check my bags all the way through as I bought the tickets separetaly My question is: Will the time from arrival and departure be enough to clear Immigration/customs and check in again? I do have a Global Entry but it will be my first time using so I dont really know if speed the process at all

Yes, that should be enough time. If both tickets are on American, you can bring your information for the second flight and the agent in Brazil should be able to look up the reservation and tag the bag through to your final destination. However, you will still have to claim your bag to go through US Customs, in that case, you will be able to use the transfer desk though without having to go to the check-in counters.

  • T4-T7

Hello, I have Delta Airlines flight from Boston which arrives into JFK T4 at 1415. I then have an international flight with Iberia from T7 at 1705. Is this enough time for the transfer/immigration etc. i will not have any checked luggage

You will not have to go through Immigration. All you have to do is take the AirTrain from T4 to T7, get your Iberia boarding pass if you don't already have it, and go through security. You should have plenty of time.

Thanks ZAP, should have said I am a spanish citizen, is this still the same?

Yes, you never have to go through US Immigration when leaving the US.

  • from T1 to T2
    Oct 14, 2014
Need your help!!! will arrive at 5.20 pm to T1, then have a flight at 7.25 in T2. Is this enough to go through secure and custom area? Thanks a lot

Yes, 2 hrs 5 mins should be enough time.

  • 95 mins to connect from T4 (int'l flight) to T2
    Oct 22, 2014
Will be arriving to JFK T4 from SVO on Delta. Connecting to a JFK-YYZ flight leaving from T2. I'm a Canadian so have to go through the general immigration. Delta Platinum Medallion. No luggage. What's the likelihood of me making the connection? And what is the best/shortest way to get to T2 - heard one could turn back and re-clear security in T4 and then take a bus to T2, or take a train to T2 and clear security there - what's best? Thanks!

Since you didn't post how long you have, I can't tell you your chances of making the connection. It's less walking to go through security in T4. However the train runs more frequently and is faster than the bus. It's a toss up.

Thank you for your reply. Connection time is in my post title, sorry. It's 95 minutes.

You should probably have enough time.

Yes, I was enough time. Armed with the knowledge of the fact that there has to be a Quick Connect, I walked off the plane, followed the hallway, saw a lady directing people, asked her to show me where to go to Quick Connect (left walkway), and followed it. There was one family in front of me. Then stood in a fairly short line to Customs (maybe 5 minutes), walked out of the Customs area into the airport, turned left and walked to the sign Air Train, escalator upstairs, train on the left, another 5 minutes and I was near T2. You have to walk outside to reach it, but once there, security was quick. With 85 minutes for the connection, I had 30 minutes in the lounge before boarding.

    Thanks for your report.

  • Rome FCO to JFK to LAX
    Oct 14, 2014
Hello, We are worried that we will not have enough time to get through customs in time on our way back from Italy to JFK. We arrive from FCO to JFK at 6:25pm and will have to go through customs and our flight from JFK to LAX leaves at 8:05pm. Will we have to recheck our bags? Will customs take to much time? 1hr and 30min leaves a small margin of error! Any help? Thanks! *We do not know our terminal or gate numbers at this time. This is a groupon trip.

that should be enough time. Both of your flights will be in Terminal 4. You will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags with Delta at the re-check desk, then go up to the departure level and go through security and to your departure gate.

Thanks so much I appreciate it.

  • Is 1 hr 25min layover enough time?
    Oct 9, 2014
Hi we are flying into JFk on 25.12.14 to T8 from Heathrow we arrive at 13.35 and our connecting flight departs JFK T8 to Orlando at 14.59 this flight has changed times since we booked! We purchased as complete ticket through BA but worrying we won't have enough time what advice can anyone give us this is our first time of doing a flight like this! Thank you.

That is slightly below the minimum connection time for International->Domestic at JFK. You will probably be able to make the connection since it will all be in Terminal 8, where you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags with American at the transfer desk. There are only two JFK-MCO flights on American every day, the ~3PM flight being the last one, so if you miss your connection you will probably be rebooked to miami either on another airline or through Miami.

Exactly the same has happened for us on 21st December! It's going to be tight!!

  • Do I have enough time to make connection with 41 min. layover
    Oct 9, 2014
We are flying from Buffalo to JFK in mid March, 2015 and depart at 5:59 pm and arrive at 7:34 pm and our connectiono to Puerto Rico leaves at 8:15 p.m. I purchased same on one ticket through Delta and assumed it would be fine, but I am concerned as we are going on a cruise the next day. Would Delta sell same if it is not doable. Feeling concerned.

Yes, that should be doable. You will arrive in Terminal 2 and depart from Terminal 4 though, so you will have to take the Delta shuttle bus between terminals. Also, it doesn't leave much spare time in case of delays, which are common at JFK.

  • Enough time between connections?
    Oct 8, 2014
Hello! I plan to arrive in JFK T5 on EI105 from DUB & connect with AA2351 to MIA. I will do pre clearance in Dublin. I will be travelling on a split ticket so will have to collect luggage before transferring from T5 to T8 & vice versa on the return. Layover outbound is a 3h35 & 4hr31 min layover on the return. Will I be OK for time between flights? Thanks in advance.

Yes, that should be plenty of time.

    Thank you.

  • Connecting Flight Inquiry
    Oct 7, 2014
Hi, I am and irish citizen flying KLM Tor-JFK-Amsterdam. I arrive in Terminal 2 in JFK Dec 17th 13:43 and my connecting flight is through Terminal 4 at 16:50. Will I have to collect my luggage in JFK and then go through security and check in to the next flight in terminal 4? I am a bit concerned since I am not familiar with the airport...

Your first flight will be operated by Delta connection. You will pre-clear US Immigration in Toronto. In JFK on your way to Amsterdam all you will have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. Terminal 2 and Terminal 4 are connected inside security by a Delta shuttle bus. You should have plenty of time.

  • Catching our flight
    Oct 7, 2014
We arrive from MSP into terminal 4 at 9pm and have to catch a flight to Italy out of terminal 1 at 10:15pm. Do we need to go through security again? What's the fastest way to get to terminal 1? Do we need to recheck our bags? We go through jfk on the way back - will we need to recheck our bags on the way back? Any details would be GREAT!

Your flight from MSP will actually likely arrive in Terminal 2 (but may arrive in Terminal 4). Regardless, the only way to get to T1 is via the AirTrain, which runs outside security. If you purchased your tickets together then they will be checked through to Italy and you won't have to claim them in JFK on your way to Italy. On the return, you will arrive in T1, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then if your bags are tagged through to MSP, you can immediately re-check them. Otherwise you will have to take them with you on the AirTrain to T2 or T4 to re-check them.

  • Making a connecting flight
    Oct 7, 2014
Hi, I'm flying from South Africa to JFK on the 11th dec with Eithad airways and land at 8:25am. I have a connecting flight with us airways to Miami at 10:55am. Is 2 hours and 50mins enough time? Given that I will also need to recheck my bag.

Your transfer time will suffice! I suggest, however, that I suggest you open www.ifly.com/jfk, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text - paying attention to 'International Arrivals' and transfers.

Okay thank you! I see I will arrive in terminal 4 and will need to make my way to terminal 8. How long does it take to get to terminal 8 from 4? Is it also quite easy to navigate myself? It's my first time in this airport!

The ride on the AirTrain from T8 to T4 should take 10-15 minutes.

  • Arrive Terminal4. Depart Terminal5

flying Jet Blue must claim bags and recheck El Al best way to get from terminal4 to Terminal5 with elderly mother in wheelchair and how much connection time should we alot

Wheelchairs are supplied by the airlines - you need to contact them at least 48 hrs prior to arrival and point out that you need to get to Terminal 4, where you need to check-in bags with El Al before proceeding to your connecting gate. Jet Blue uses T5; El Al uses T4. The 'Airplane Terminal Train' (the station is at left end of T5's Arrivals/baggage level) runs counter-clockwise between all terminals - you have only one stop to T4. I do not know if the train is wheelchair-accessible. I strongly suggest that you call JFK's Travelers Aid at 718-656-4879 to give you proper advice.

  • Enough time?
    Oct 4, 2014
I was wondering if anyone knew if this could work, I'm looking at flying into JFK Terminal 1 on Cayman Airways from Grand Cayman, flight lands at 9pm, want to catch a 10:30pm flight to Stockholm, Sweden on Norwegian Air from the same Terminal number 1, I am Canadian and I wont have any checked baggage, do I have to go through security again if both flights are at Terminal 1? Thanks in advance for your help!

Upon arrival you will have to go through US Immigration and US Customs, you will then be outside the secure area. If you are able to check in to your Norwegian flight online then you can proceed direct to security. If your flight is on-time and you can check-in online then it's possible but if there are any delays (and Cayman Airways flights are often delayed) you will be stuck in NYC and Norwegian will not be accommodating in rebooking you.

    Thanks for the info!

  • do i have sufficient time
    Oct 3, 2014
I plan to fly emirates which should arrive into JFK at 8:15 am, and i intend to book an internal flight on Delta to FLL which departs at 11:15 am. Will i have enough time to clear customs and re-check in, to catch the Delta flight ?

Yes, that should be enough time. However, be aware that if you book separate tickets you will have to take your bags to the Delta check-in counter to re-check them and pay a checked bag fee.

Thanks.. any idea of the terminals i will be arriving to and departing from ? (Landing from Dubai and departing to FLL)

You will arrive in Terminal 4 and depart from Terminal 2 or 4. Delta has check-in counters in both Terminal 2 and 4 and their gates in the two terminals are connected by a shuttle bus inside security.

  • Time for a international connection flight
    Oct 3, 2014
Hi, I arrival from Miami to JFK terminal 8 and I have 1 hour and 40 minutes time to catch my connection flight to Finland. The gate is closed 30 min before departure. Can I go directly from arrivals to the departures and is this time ( 1 h 30 min) enough to catch the connection flight?

Since your first flight is domestic you will arrive directly into the waiting area for the gates. You should have plenty of time.
