  • terminal1 to terminal 4 connection

I have someone arriving to terminal 1 and departing from terminal 4. The person is coming to the US for the first time and does not speak English. What is the best way for him to make the connection?

He will arrive in Terminal 1, go through US Immigration, claim his bags, go through US Customs, re-check his bags at the transfer desk (assuming his bags are checked through to his final destination), then take the AirTrain from Terminal 1 to Terminal 4 and go through security and to his departure gate. JFK is a truly international airport and much of the signage is in other languages or has the international symbols for things.

I have a 45 minute connection(coming from Boston), and heading to Costa Rica. I assume that we will be departing for Costa Rica from a different terminal than we arrive. 45 minutes seems like an awfully short time. Assuming that flight is on time, will this be enough time to connect? We are flying JetBlue

If both flights are on JetBlue you do not have to change terminals. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal 5. In that case that is enough time if your first flight is on-time.

Landing 21:47 from Miami AA - leaving 00:40 Turkish Airlines. Canadian & Turkish passport. Luggages. One ticket bought from Turkey. Enough time to catch TK? Or fly back earlier from miami?

That should be plenty of time. All you have to do is change terminals via the airtrain from T8 to T1, get your Turkish boarding pass if you don't already have it, and go through security.

  • Connection between T1 and T8

Flying from Toronto Tokyo, arrive on T8 by AA, departure on T1, 4 hrs between 2 flights. Do I need to collect my luggage and enough time to get on next flight?

Did you purchase your tickets together or separately? if together then you will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs and you will not have to claim your bags in JFK on your way to Tokyo.

We will be in business class so can use the faster security lines...is two hours enough time to make a connection between Delta on terminal 4 and Alitalia (Delta code share) on terminal 1

Yes, that should be plenty of time if your Delta flight is domestic and enough time if your Delta flight is International.

  • Using airport lounge on different terminal

My husband and I have a flight from Terminal 4, however, have passes for the United lounge on Terminal 7. Would it be possible for us to clear security on Terminal 4 and then head to the lounge on Terminal 7 for a bit before we head back to Terminal 4 for our flight? I guess the question is are the terminals connected post security and can I use the United lounge even though my flight is from a different terminal?

No, T7 is not connected to any other terminal inside security.

Looking for estimated times to arrive delta, pick up luggage, check in to iceland air, travel to gate

    That should be enough time.

  • Meeting arrivals at terminal 4 after arriving at terminal 7

I have to meet some friend at terminal 4 but I will be arriving at terminal 7. Should I just cab aline it or meet them to share a cab

A cab from JFK to Manhattan is about $60. So if you can meet up with them that would be preferable. You can take the AirTrain from T4 to T7 and meet them on the arrivals level. Better yet, if you are going to Manhattan you could take the AirTrain to the LIRR or Subway there. It's much less expensive and usually faster than a taxi.

Hi, our fllht comes from orlando on delta at terminal 4 and then we have a connection for Paris at terminal 1 , is 1h40 enough between connections? Thanks!

That should be enough if your first flight is on-time. If you purchased your tickets together your bags will be transferred automatically. You just need to take the AirTrain from T4 to T1 and go through security.

Flying from Dublin to LAX. Arrive in JFK T4 and have connecting flight from T4. 3:30 hours between flights. Do I have to Collect my bags and re-check them in?

Yes, that should be plenty of time. Dublin has US Immigration and Customs pre-clearance. All you have to do in JFK is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Connecting Terminal 1 to 5, 8:30pm on a Friday

My companion and I are U.S. citizens. We'll be arriving at JFK (Terminal 1) on Norwegian Air on Friday, February 20 and need to depart on JetBlue from Terminal 5. Obviously, we need time for Immigration, Customs, the Airtrain to Terminal 5, and Terminal 5 security (we do have JetBlue's Even More Speed, and we'll have checked in online and printed our JetBlue boarding passes already). We are traveling carryon only, so we don't have to wait for bags. Is 2 hours 45 minutes (could be more like 2 hours and 15 minutes, as the Norwegian flight is typically 20-30 minutes late) enough tp make the connection, or are we cutting it too close for comfort? When I check the Immigration website wait times, Friday evenings at Terminal 1 seem to average about 30 minutes for wait time, although the averages are somewhat skewed by the handful of people (presumably non-citizens) who have extremely long waits... Your thoughts?

Yeah, 2 hr 45 mins should be enough time since you won't have checked bags and have already checked in.

Just wanted to follow-up. Given the fact that we didn't have to claim anything at immigration, or pick up any checked baggage, we were through Immigration and Customs in less than 30 minutes, reached Terminal 5 some 20 minutes later, and were through security and waiting at our departure gate with well over an hour to spare. Thank you all for your help!

Hi, I am flying to JFK from New Delhi, India at 7:35 AM in Terminal 4. I then have a separately booked flight from JFK Terminal 1 to Toronto at 10:35 AM. Are 3 hours enough to go through immigration at T4 and then go to T1 for my 10:35 flight?

Yes, that should be enough time. However no airlines that fly from JFK to Toronto use T1. What airline are you flying to Toronto?

Sorry, I am flying from T7 to Toronto

Is there enough time from 7:35 AM - 10:35 AM to pick up our checked bags (6 suitcases), go through immigration, and go from T4 to T7.

You should have enough time. If you purchased your tickets together and your bags are tagged through to YYZ, then you can re-check your bags at the transfer desk in T4. Otherwise you will have to take them with you on the airtrain to T7 and pay a fairly hefty excess baggage fee.

Hello, i am travelling from CDG to San Juan with one stop, in JFK on 21st February. I have 3,5 hours between flights ( on JFK), to get from T1 to T4...is that enough time? Thank you

    Yes, that is enough time.

  • International arriving to JFK domestic to LAX

We arrive at 145pm on AA from Italy and continue on AA to LAX at 3:00pm. What is the procedure and is that enough time?

That's not really enough time. It's 15 minutes shorter than the minimum connecting time. You arrive in T8, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the transfer desk, go through security and to your departure gate.

  • Connecting between Terminal 4 and 5

Hi, My wife is traveling from India to San Jose. and she has a connecting flight in JFK. She will be reaching at Terminal 4 and have to go to Terminal 5 to board the next flight. Let me know the procedure for the same. Thanks.

She will arrive in Terminal 4, go through US Immigration, claim her bags, go through US Customs, then if she purchased her tickets together and her bags are tagged through to San Jose, she can re-check her bags at the transfer desk, otherwise she will have to take her bags with her. In T5 she will check her bag if she hasn't already, get her JetBlue boarding pass if she doesn't already have it, go through security and to her departure gate.

She has booked her ticket together. So i assume she can checkin her bag in T4 itself. And will she have to come out of the airport for moving from T4 to T5, as am worried about the climate. If its within the airport then normal temperature would be maintained isn't it.

The connections to the airtrain are covered. New York is not so cold that it will give her frostbite in a few minutes.
