Our flight arrives at 12.22PM at terminal 5 - connecting flight departs at 2.55 from termnial 4. Is this enough time?

Yes, that should be enough time, even if you have to transfer bags yourself, as long as your first flight is on-time.

  • Sufficient connection time?

I arrive in JFK at 3 PM on a domestic flight from Atlanta. I then need to collect my baggage and check-in for an international connection to Qatar via Milan at 5:55 PM (American Airlines and Qatar Airways). Would the time be sufficient? What terminals should I use?

You will both arrive and depart from Terminal 8. You should have plenty of time if your first flight is on-time.

According to my ticket, I land in JFK in terminal 4 (Delta Airlines flight) and take off from terminal 8 (American Airlines). Would the time be enough to pick up my luggage and then check-in for my international flight?

OK, I thought you were flying American to JFK and then Qatar Airways out of JFK. Yes, you should still have enough time and Delta and American do have an interline agreement, so if all your tickets were bought on one reservation Delta may be able to check your bags all the way to Qatar (or at least to Milan) for you. To get between Terminal 4 and Terminal 8 you take the AirTrain/Air Terminals Train.

I arrive at 6:15 PM from Rome, and the connecting flight home is in Terminal 8 at 8:15. I hope two hours is enough time! Best way between terminals?

What airline are you flying from Rome? The AirTrain/Air Terminals Train connects all terminals outside security.

I am flying in on Alitalia

It will be pretty tough to make your connection. You're right on the borderline of what's doable and what's not.

  • Connecting domestic to international and back

Our flight from BWI arrives at JFK at 7pm and departs for Europe at 8:35pm. Returning we arrive at JFK from Europe at 2:35 and depart for BWI at 4pm. Is this enough time to make each flight and clear customs on the return? We will have carry on luggage and all flights are with Delta. Thank you!

On the flight back that's definitely pushing it. On your way back you will still have to wait in line for immigration, then take the AirTrain from Terminal 4 to Terminal 2 then go back through security and to your gate. On the way to Europe you'll want to take Delta's shuttle bus from T2 to T4 as it runs on the secure side, meaning you won't have to go through security as you will if you take the AirTrain between terminals.

I have a flight arriving with Delta at JFK on December 18 at 3:08PM and leaving with Delta at 4:25PM for an international flight to Paris, would I have enough time to connect?

Where are you flying into JFK from? Some Delta flights arrive Terminal 2 and some arrive Terminal 4. If you arrive in Terminal 2 you have to take Delta's shuttle bus between the terminals (which runs inside security). Your flight to Paris will depart from Terminal 4 if it is operated by Delta. However, it appears to me that the 4:25 PM flight is operated by Air France, not Delta, and thus would depart from Terminal 1. If you post your flight numbers and originating airport I can help you more.

Hi, I'm going to arrive on an international flight from Amsterdam, at 1:00 pm on a saturday on terminal 4, and I need to catch a domestic flight to LAX from the same terminal (Virgin). Is a 4:55 p.m. takeoff time reasonable? Can I clear customs, get my bag, check it in to Virgin and be at the gate before 4:55 pm, seeing how I'm not a US citizen and last year the customs line was ~2 hours long? Thank you!

Yes, that should be enough time. Things are a tad better in T4 now and even if it does take 2 hours, that still leaves you almost another 2 hours.

Thank you very much! Now I can worry about the other parts of my journey :D Cheers!

we are arriving with Delta at JFK from Montreal, Canada and connecting to a Delta international flight to Aruba. which terminals will we be using and is 2hrs 20 minutes adequate time to connect? do we have to collect our own baggage and/or go through any customs formalities?

As you will go through U.S. Customs clearance in Montreal, you are considered to be a domestic arrival at U.S., and most likely will arrive at Delta Terminal 2, where you are being transferred by the Delta Bus (gate-to-gate) to Terminal 4, the main Delta terminal. Your bags will automatically be transferred and you have plenty of time.

Do you have to clear security again when moving from Terminal 2 to Terminal 4?

If you take Delta's shuttle bus, no, it runs on the secure side.

Is there a place in the airport where I can leave my luggage? I will be travel on Delta airline as a domestic flight, which terminal should I go for check in?

At JFK, most Delta domestic flights depart/arrive at Terminal 2 - exception: Flights to LAX, SFO & SEA, which use Terminal 4. (A Delta shuttle bus runs between both terminals, gate-to-gate. Terminal 4's Arrivals lobby, has baggage hold (tel. (718) 751-4020) - which also has Baggage Wrapping by 'Secure Wrap' in the departure level.

Hi, I am landing in JFK on a domestic flight and need to catch an International flight with 90 min to transfer. I have 2 bags to check in. I will have to pick up my bags from Jet blue and check in at Emirates. Is this sufficient? I will be arriving in Jet blue and connecting to Emirates.

No, I don't think that will be enough time. The bag check-in cutoff for the Emirates flight is probably at least 60 minutes, which means you'd have to be perfectly on-time, then claim your bags, take them on the AirTrain from T5 to T4, then wait in line, all in less than 30 minutes. I think that will be really tough. It's possible, if the flight is on-time or early, but that's rare at JFK.

  • Domestic to international flight

I land at JFK on a Domestic Delta flight at 2:00 pm and then need to catch an international Air Lingus flight at 5:00 pm. I only have carry on bags. Do I have enough time to get thru customs, get to next terminal and pass thru security? Any suggestions appreciated!

You will not go through customs as you are arriving on a domestic flight. You have plenty of time. You just have to take the AirTrain/Air Terminals Train from your arrival terminal (either 2 or 4) to Terminal 5.

  • 1,5 hours time to transfer?
    Aug 17, 2013
Hi, I've booked my first US trip but I think I may have too little time to catch the connecting flight. I'm arriving from Europe with Delta Airlines at 1305, and should depart for an internal flight with Delta at 1435 to Baltimore. Is this enough time to pass through customs, collect baggage, drop off baggage again and board the plane? What should I do to make it? I could try to travel with carry on only, would that help? Thanks in advance!

You would arrive at JFK's Terminal 4, and depart from Terminal 2. Your stated transfer time of 1.5 hrs could suffice under normal travel conditions, but leaves no room for late arrival, or longer lines due to either rush hour, high season / holidays (including the week before & after Labor Day (Sept.2). After baggage re-check-in, you would need to board the 'Airline Terminals Train' making its continuous loop between the terminals, to the next stop at Terminal 2 (there is no T3), where you need to go through security check prior to proceeding to your gate. Your chances are better without the baggage.

  • International to Internal at T8

Hi, Planning a trip from London to Cleveland (OH). AA are suggesting a flight arriving at 1335 and then connecting out at 1455. Is 1hr 20 mins really a realistic connection please?

No, I wouldn't advise that. It may be possible, but I wouldn't schedule a connection that is less than 2 hours International->Domestic at JFK, even in the same terminal.

    Thanks for confirming that.

  • International to International, Delta and AA, separate tickets
    Aug 13, 2013
Hello, I've already bought a Delta ticket from GRU that arrives JFK at 5:25AM, on November 25th. I intend to buy AA tickets to ANU, the same day, that departs 7:25AM (I don't know which terminal the flights arrives/departs). Is it enough time to get the AA flight? If it's not, is there any method to make it happen (like "express connection cards" or some way to cut the lines, due to the tight connection time)? Thanks in advance.

That should be enough time, barely. AA departs from Terminal 8 at JFK, so you will have to claim your baggage from Delta in Terminal 4, then take the AirTrain/Air Terminals Train from T4 to T8 and check it with American. There are no ways to cut the lines.

18 PM? Do you mean 1800 which would be 6 PM? If so 2 hours is enough time to make your connection.
